Kickoff Cravings: Win Your Tailgate With MVP-Level Appetizers at The Next Dolphins Game By Family Features October 5, 2023 Share Before this weekend's touchdown dances and sideline celebrations, settling in for a winning game day experience starts with delicious foods. Whether your football parties take place at home, in the backyard or right outside the stadium, kicking it off with savory appetizers can get the crowd on its feet. Keep your game plan simple this season and light up the scoreboard with fan favorites like dips and wings. These versions are both easy to prepare and can be enjoyed fresh or made in advance and kept warm or reheated to energize your fellow diehards. Powering up for a successful game day starts with a pregame spread, and no tailgate or homegate is complete without a spicy dip that brings the heat. This Game Day Buffalo Chicken Dip is a perfect solution for firing up your crowd as it requires little preparation so you save precious time before kickoff. Whether you bake shortly before the game begins or make it ahead of time for a parking lot party, simply keep it warm and serve with chips or veggie sticks for a quick, shareable appetizer. Game Day Buffalo Chicken Dip Servings: 3-4 • 2 cups shredded chicken • 8 ounces cream cheese • 1/2 cup sour cream • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, plus additional for topping, divided • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder • 1 heavy pinch dried dill • 1/2 cup hot sauce • 2 green onions, chopped • blue cheese crumbles • chips • vegetable sticks Heat oven to 400 F. In bowl, mix shredded chicken, cream cheese, sour cream, 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese, onion powder, garlic powder and dried dill until combined. Add hot sauce; mix until combined. Transfer mixture from bowl to oven-safe dish. Top with additional shredded cheese, to taste. Bake until cheese is melted, approximately 15 minutes. Top with blue cheese crumbles and chopped green onion. Serve warm with chips and vegetable sticks. Score a Touchdown with a Game Day Dip One of the best ways to take tailgating to the next level this season is by making healthier versions of classic game day fare. For example, you can be the MVP of your game day gathering with a delicious, hall-of-fame-worthy appetizer. Call an audible by using fresh, easy and healthy ingredients to make it better for you and score extra points with family and friends. This Game Day Taco Dip takes fan-favorite flavors - beef, refried beans, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, tomatoes and black olives - and adds a twist with the Fresh Express Butter Supreme Salad kit. This tasty, colorful blend of green butter lettuce, red butter lettuce, radicchio and baby chard is available in the refrigerated produce department and is perfect for creating healthier versions of beloved tailgating dips, snacks, finger foods and more. Visit: FreshExpress.com to discover more winning game day recipe ideas and find a retailer near you. Tailgate Taco Dip Prep time: 25 minutes Cook time: 5 minutes Servings: 12 • 1 pound ground beef • 1 package (1 ounce) taco seasoning • 1/4 cup water • 2 tablespoons minced cilantro • 1 can (16 ounces) refried beans, zesty salsa flavor • 1 jar (16 ounces) thick and chunky salsa, medium or hot • 2 cups guacamole • 1/2 cup sour cream • 3 packages (5 ounces each) Fresh Express Butter Supreme • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese • 1 cup tomatoes, chopped • 1 can (2 1/4 ounces) sliced black olives, drained • 1 package (14 ounces) tortilla chips In skillet over medium-high heat, cook beef 5 minutes, or until no longer pink. Sprinkle with taco seasoning; mix well. Add water; cook 2 minutes, or until water is absorbed. Transfer to bowl; cool to room temperature. Add cilantro; mix well. In 9-inch pie plate, evenly spread refried beans; top with seasoned ground beef and salsa. Add spoonfuls of guacamole across top of salsa then carefully spread to smooth. Place sour cream in small resealable bag; cut off corner. Pipe sour cream to create football shape on guacamole. Put pie plate in center of 15-by-18-inch tray. Arrange salad blend around pie plate. Top with cheddar cheese, tomatoes and olives. Serve with tortilla chips. Just Wing It Skip the silverware at your next homegate and dive right in with a fan favorite that requires just your hands and a heap of napkins: wings. Whether you pick through your pieces or clean each wing to the bone, these Game Day Chicken Wings are perfect for eaters of all types. A simple flour-based coating keeps the recipe easy to make and baking in the oven means you can skip the messy fryer or firing up the grill. Cook until crispy then corral your party's favorite dipping sauces from ranch and blue cheese to barbecue and more. Once your spread is served, it's time to sit back and enjoy the game. Game Day Chicken Wings Total time: 50 minutes Servings: 4 • 1/2 cup butter, cubed • 1/3 cup flour • 2 teaspoons paprika • 1 teaspoon garlic powder • 1 teaspoon salt • 1 teaspoon black pepper • 10 chicken wingettes, thawed • dipping sauces (optional) • fresh parsley (optional) Preheat oven to 425 F. Line baking sheet with foil. Arrange butter cubes on foil. In medium bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Coat both sides of wings in flour mixture then evenly space among butter cubes on baking sheet. Bake wings 30 minutes. Turn wings over and bake 15 minutes, or until crispy and fully cooked. Serve with dipping sauces and sprinkle with fresh parsley, if desired. Visit: www.Culinary.net to find more touchdown-worthy tailgate recipes. < Previous News Next News >

  • School Update And Tax Rate Set To Rollback | sun-times

School Update And Tax Rate Set To Rollback By Hallandale Beach, Mayor Joy Cooper Sep 24, 2025 Happy Rosh Hashanah To All Of My Friends, Family And The Residents Of The City Of Hallandale Beach!! The first meeting to redefine our local schools was held recently at Hallandale High School. There was a good turnout of not simply residents but teachers, students, parents, community stakeholders and elected officials. As of July 29th, 58 schools were below 70% capacity: 39 elementary, 16 middle, and 3 high schools. In our area the three middle schools were all under enrolled below 55% with McNicol the lowest at 45%. McNicol Middle School and Hallandale High will be my focus as these directly impact our city. It needs to be noted, the school boundaries are different from city boundaries so these two schools impact Hollywood, West Park and Pembroke Park. Hallandale High School was under enrolled as of last year 64% of 1,055 with 574 empty seats. Last night, that number dipped even further this school year with a number around 900. This process obviously has been ongoing for a year or two. This spring there was a survey sent out to all parents inquiring about their school choices. Obviously, many schools are under enrolled, and enrollment is down across the board. Even some charter schools are seeing a dip and capacity. The School Board survey found four areas that they needed to focus on. Better track of social and economics rather than sole focus of grades, more college and career readiness support, concentrate on supporting teachers to bolster the quality of education, address school safety and work to reduce instances of bullying and harassment. These were along with other issues like transportation, school facilities and environment and extracurricular activities. School Board Member Bulman shared that they want input from the residents as they realize how these decisions naturally impact students and families, and every child deserves a quality education. Currently, they are doing this district wide. Some schools have been closed, and properties are being looked at for sale. Others are being repurposed for support services utilized as offices for rent. As far as this school board staff shared that palimony discussions were had to combine McNicol with Hallandale High and convert Hallandale High Program to mirror the Pompano Beach model which has a waiting list. The reality is there will be some tough decisions to make over the next months on these two schools and others district wide. They asked for participation in a live survey and had a breakout session. If you want to provide your input, there is a link on the school board website. The City Commission adopted our budget which included setting the Millage Rate to roll back. This is the second time in two years. If you are homesteaded, as far as the City Tax this will be the amount listed on the last column. The system is a bit complex to understand as every property is based on its taxable values. Using my TRIM notice as an example taxable value went up 24,000 due to Save our Homes and homestead exemptions. My portion of the city tax went up $14 dollars. If you are not homestead or commercial the Tax Rate of 7.3848 will be applied to the Taxable Value. As always, I am available anytime for your questions, concerns, and ideas to make our City a better place on my Phone/Text at: (954) 632-5700. Or you can email me at: jcooper@cohb.org . • Aventura Provides Defensive Driving Course for Mature Drivers

Aventura Provides Defensive Driving Course for Mature Drivers November 8, 2022 Share The City of Aventura in partnership with AAA will provide defensive driving courses later this month for mature drivers. Older Americans today are healthier and more active than ever before. The aging baby boomer generation is the fastest-growing demographic in the U.S. By 2030, there will be more than 70 million people age 65 and older, and approximately 85-90 percent of them will be licensed to drive. In fact, seniors are outliving their ability to drive safely by an average of 7-10 years and for the first time in history, we must plan for our “driving retirement” just as we plan for our financial retirement. Senior drivers are among the safest drivers on the road and often reduce their risk of injury by wearing safety belts, not drinking and driving and by observing speed limits; however, seniors are more likely to be injured or killed in a crash due to age-related fragility. With the exception of teenagers, seniors have the highest crash death rate per mile driven. As we age, our ability to drive safely is affected by natural changes to our bodies over time. Driving is a skill that can and should be continually improved. Taking a comprehensive driving improvement course will ensure that you have the most up-to-date driving techniques and understand the latest vehicle technologies. As you age, it is important for senior drivers to know and understand how to adjust for slower reflexes, weaker vision and other changes. The City of Aventura in partnership with AAA is dedicated to keeping seniors driving for as long as safely possible. They also are committed to promoting viable transportation options for seniors who can no longer drive independently. Such as the Aventura Express Shuttle Bus - https://www.cityofaventura.com/183/Aventura-Express-Shuttle-Bus and the Freebee Ride Service (Aventura Route Only) - https://www.cityofaventura.com/444/Freebee This course was created specifically for drivers 55 and older. The class will provide tips and techniques to help experienced drivers compensate for changing vision, reflexes and response time, as well as understanding how prescription medications may affect driving. This two-day course will sharpen driving skills. The program is designed to help senior drivers be safer while staying behind the wheel longer. The course is intended to reduce risk behind the wheel and focus on high-risk situations drivers face every day. Students of the program will be better prepared to safely operate their motor vehicle in today’s driving environment. Insurance providers may also offer a reduction in premiums for drivers who successfully complete this course, you will have to contact your own provider to verify for sure if you can receive a discount. The course will take place at the City of Aventura Community Recreation Center on Thursday, November 17 and Friday, November 18, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The course is $20 per person and only cash is accepted. To reserve a spot for this course please call 305-270-6450. For more information, contact the Community Recreation Center at: 305-466-3883. < Previous News Next News >

  • NOE Is Coming To Miami: South America's Iconic Sushi Bar To Open Its First US Location

NOE Is Coming To Miami: South America's Iconic Sushi Bar To Open Its First US Location June 20, 2024 Share For the past two decades NOE Sushi Bar, named after its talented and culinary daring Chef/Co-Owner Noe Carmona, has maintained a well-earned reputation as a temple of Japanese and Latin American gastronomy at its finest. More than fusion and not Nikkei, a meal at NOE Sushi Bar offers diners a transportive journey, combining provocative flavors, textures and techniques for an experience wholly its own. Now, as the brand celebrates 20 successful years and close to three dozen acclaimed locations throughout Ecuador, Chef Carmona is ready to unveil the first U.S. location of NOE Sushi Bar in South Miami. Located at 5958 South Dixie Highway, Miami, Florida 33143 in the former Mi’talia space, the restaurant is slated to open July 2024 upon completion of a full renovation. At a young age Chef Carmona, the eldest of 10 siblings in a modest farming family in Ecuador, dreamed of getting to Quito. His culinary journey began at eight years of age, cooking rice to lend a hand at home. At 12, a restaurant job during school break ignited his passion for cooking and opened his eyes to the flavors and possibilities of different cuisines. Seven years later, he finally found himself in the country’s capital and despite numerous challenges upon arriving in Quito, including homelessness, Carmona's determination led him to Tanoshi in Hotel Oro Verde. There, he began as a dishwasher and worked his way up to a spot on the kitchen staff, where he was recognized for his relentless drive and work ethic. A few years later, he moved on to work alongside Japanese master chefs, sparking a lifelong love for Japanese Cuisine. A protégé of Master Chef Ken Namba's guidance, he grew to master Japanese Culinary techniques leading to the opening of his first NOE in 1994 in Quito. There, he introduced his signature style – blending Japanese and Ecuadorian Cuisine – and established himself as a trendsetting talent. “It’s a dream come true to bring NOE to the United States and no other city would make sense for our first U.S. location more than Miami,” says Carmona. “I’m excited for South Floridians to have a completely new dining experience.” Boasting a well-rounded menu of Hot and Cold Specialties, including: Traditional and Signature Maki and Sashimi Selections, NOE Sushi Bar will feature a combination of NOE Signatures as well as a handful of Chef Carmona creations unique to the 305. Signature must-haves include Noe Tataki – Tuna, Salmon, White Fish, Octopus and Semi-Roasted Filet Mignon, served with chef’s sauce; Mizutako – Grilled Octopus seasoned with Oriental Spices, accompanied by Vegetables; Filet Mignon Ramen – Traditional Ramen served with slices of torched Filet Mignon, Crunchy Vegetables and a Soft Boiled Egg; and Sake Yama Roll – A Roll wrapped in Potato Threads with Crab, Masago, Avocado and Cream Cheese, topped with Salmon, accompanied by Passion Fruit and Eel Sauces. Seating 140 between the patio and sleek dining room, complete with a newly-installed Sushi Bar, NOE Sushi Bar will undoubtedly become a destination in a market rich with residential and commercial interests. At a Culinary Crossroads Located at the vibrant intersection of US-1 and Southwest 73rd Street, Noe Sushi Bar will be a beacon of culinary innovation, where Japanese Sophistication will harmonize with Ecuadorian Zest. Perfectly positioned in one of Miami's most dynamic neighborhoods, our upcoming location isn't just a spot on the map—it symbolizes the confluence of diverse culinary traditions that our menu will celebrate, inviting diners to embark on a journey of discovery and taste. NOE Sushi Bar is located at 5958 South Dixie Highway, Miami, Florida 33143. The restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. Telephone: (305) 306-3708; www.noesushimiami.com < Previous News Next News >

  • Can Money Buy Happiness? More Than Half Of Americans Say Yes In New Study

Can Money Buy Happiness? More Than Half Of Americans Say Yes In New Study By BPT January 11, 2024 Share How much money would make you happy? According to the average American, the price tag comes in around $1.2 Million. New research from Empower, a leader in financial planning, investing and advice, reveals 6 in 10 Americans believe money can buy happiness, though just 17% say financial contentment is about reaching a certain net worth. It turns out that a little goes a long way and incremental financial wins can make a massive impact on Americans' Well-Being. "Every generation has grappled with questions of how to calculate financial happiness: hard work, a lot of planning, consistent savings, and even a little bit of luck, in just the right measures," says Carol Waddell, President of Empower Personal Wealth. "A spirit of financial confidence prevails, with 7 in 10 saying they have clear financial goals and Americans continue to envision a bright future." The Financials Of Happiness While the study found that 7 in 10 Americans (71%) believe more money would solve most of their problems, for a third (32%) a relatively attainable gain of $15,000 would make a meaningful impact in their lives, boosting their feeling of financial happiness for six months. That number surges to 42% with a $25,000 gain, and just $5,000 would do it for 17%. Indeed, happiness manifests in big and small ways. The majority of Americans say it's on-time bill payment (67%) and living Debt-Free (65%), while roughly half say it's the ability to afford small luxuries without guilt (54%) and home ownership (45%). Over half say their contentment can be found in spending on experiences with those they cherish (53%) and in optimism for what's next, including retiring on their own terms (37%). Readying for Retirement: Nearly three-quarters of Americans (73%) say they're currently experiencing Financial Stress, with today's Economic Pressures like inflation (81%), rising interest rates (66%) and student loans (32%) dampening their sense of prosperity. Half report carrying Debt (54% overall, and 72% of Gen X) and nearly 4 in 10 (36%) say that they couldn't handle an unforeseen expense over $500 without real worry. In the current financial environment, Americans now expect to retire three years later, at age 63. Those with a less detailed financial plan (or no plan at all) don't expect to clock out until age 70, five years later than planned. For about 4 in 10 Americans (37%), and exactly half of Gen Xers, retiring by a certain age is the meaning of financial happiness. The majority (84%) are taking steps to reach this target, including putting more money into Retirement Savings (39%), Short-Term Savings like a High-Yield Account (31%), and working with a Financial Advisor (26%). A quarter of savers (25%) are paying off debt more aggressively than they would otherwise and 22% are delaying a major purchase like a car. The Power Of Planning The majority of Americans (73%) say a solid financial plan would bring them happiness, and they would like help to get there: 57% of Americans wish they would have gotten advice sooner. Nearly half of Americans (45%) say they haven't gotten the financial advice they need, including 55% of Gen Zers and 57% of Millennials. But those who already have a plan are proof of its power: Americans with a more detailed financial plan are three times as likely as those with a less detailed plan to report greater happiness around financial freedom (75% versus 24%), their plans to achieve financial goals (78% versus 23%), and the overall state of their finances, such as their net worth and debt balances (73% versus 19%). "The financial professionals at Empower combine the power of advice with technology to help Americans get on the path to financial freedom," explains Waddell. "With their financial goals in mind and a solid plan to reach them, savers can spend more time doing the things that make them happy - in their working years and beyond." Access the full Financial Happiness report on The Currency™. Methodology: "Financial Happiness" Survey of 2,034 Americans ages 18+ commissioned by Empower and fielded by The Harris Poll from August 7th to August 14th, 2023. < Previous News Next News >

  • Making The Holidays a Little Cooler: Miami Dolphins Football Gives Away Free A/C Units to Local Military Families

Making The Holidays a Little Cooler: Miami Dolphins Football Gives Away Free A/C Units to Local Military Families December 29, 2022 Share The Miami Dolphins Football UNITES™ Program and Air Pros USA, a local residential and commercial air conditioning services company and the official Air Conditioning partner for the NFL team, came together to provide new A/C Units for those in need in the community. The first recipient was Sergeant First Class Select Guillermo Oeding of Homestead. He was surprised with a new unit after being nominated by The Wounded Warrior Project, a Miami Dolphins Football UNITES™ Community Partner. Representatives from Air Pros USA and the Miami Dolphins showed up on his doorstep to give the servicemember and his family a new A/C Unit. He has been in the Army for the past 15 years and is hoping to continue to honorably serve his country until retirement. Sergeant Oeding has been deployed five times; including three times to Iraq, once to Afghanistan and once to South America. Sergeant Oeding not only takes full care of his immediate family but is also the caretaker for his mother. His 11-year-old Service Dog, Gunther also lives in the home. “As a South Florida company, everyone at Air Pros USA is grateful for the opportunity to give back through our on-going partnership with the Miami Dolphins Football UNITES™ Program, “said Anthony Perera, Chief Growth Officer for Air Pros USA. “Air Pros USA has always been a proud supporter of Veterans and servicemembers in need. Projects like this help not only uplift these families, but also their communities.” A second donation was given to a Pembroke Pines family nominated by His House Children’s Home. Foster parents Pedro and Carolina have two biological children, one with special needs, as well as three adoptive children. The loving couple actively helps encourage and motivate future foster parents by serving as role models. Their old A/C Unit continuously broke down, resulting in costly repairs. With the new A/C System, they can have the comfort in knowing that their children can sleep in a climate-controlled environment and focus on their amazing work as foster parents. The third recipient as part of this initiative was a local North Miami Beach mom, Jackie Fredrick. She was nominated for a new A/C unit in partnership with the North Miami Beach Police Athletic League (NMB-PAL). Fredrick has owned her home since 2011. The 42-year-old mother of two suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia, Heart Disease and has had brain surgery. Her need to have an updated unit that circulates clean air was urgent. In addition to raising her 15-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter, Fredrick also supports and cares for her 70-year-old mother. Both of her children participate in the NMB-PAL where she diligently ensures they are in attendance and participates in every program offered. “It is a true blessing for her to receive a new unit for her home,” says Lynda Roberts, Executive Director of NMB-PAL. “A new unit that will enhance the clean air flow throughout and make things a lot easier for her.” “We are elated to be partnering with Air Pros for the third year in a row as we continue to support members of our South Florida Community,” said Miami Dolphins Senior Director Of Community Relations & Youth Programs RaShauna Hamilton. “Thanks to our Football UNITES™ Community Partners, Wounded Warrior Project, His House Children’s Home and the NMB-PAL, we were able to identify and provide families in need with a new Air Conditioning unit to keep them cool through the Florida heat.” < Previous News Next News >

  • Cyberwell - Online Reaction To Bondi Beach Attack Glorified Terrorists, Spread “False Flag” Claims & Called For Further Violence Against Jews | sun-times

Cyberwell - Online Reaction To Bondi Beach Attack Glorified Terrorists, Spread “False Flag” Claims & Called For Further Violence Against Jews Jewish Connection News Jan 15, 2026 Nearly One Month After The Deadly Attack At Bondi Beach In Australia, Cyberwell, A Nonprofit Trusted Partner Of Meta (Facebook, Instagram And Threads), Tiktok And Youtube To Address Online Antisemitism, Said Online Reactions To The Attack Followed A Familiar Global Pattern. These Included The Glorification Of Violence, Calls For Further Attacks Against Jews, Victim-Blaming Claims That Jews Orchestrated The Incident And Conspiracy Theories Portraying It As A Jewish Or Israeli “False Flag” Operation. As part of its initial review, CyberWell analyzed a sample of 164 pieces of content, which together generated more than 8.1 million views and over 255,000 interactions, including likes, shares and comments. The organization said the sample represents only a partial snapshot of the broader online conversation but mirrors patterns it has documented and previously flagged to platforms, following other antisemitic attacks since October 7th, including Synagogue arsons in Australia, organized violence in Europe, terrorist attacks and physical assaults in the United States. CyberWell said that in those cases, online spaces often became arenas where violence was justified, normalized, or redirected toward victims through conspiracy narratives, including claims that Jews orchestrated attacks against themselves. “We are deeply concerned by the nature and volume of this content. This discourse attempts to quickly erase any acknowledgement of Jews as victims of violence. This type of online antisemitism in the wake of the horrific Bondi Beach terror attack, like other targeted attacks, has one dehumanizing message: that Jews are not worthy of empathy, protection, or sympathy. This purposeful dehumanization and open calls to additional violence we observed in our analysis, lays the groundwork for the next attack,” said CyberWell Founder & CEO Tal-Or Cohen Montemayor. Many posts, the organization said, celebrated the deaths of Jewish victims, praised the attacker, and framed the violence as justified because of the victims’ Jewish identity. In one example, a post written in Arabic compared the Bondi Beach attack to the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre, in which 11 Israeli athletes and a German police officer were killed, praising those who murder Jews “generation after generation.” The group also identified several conspiracy narratives shifting blame from the perpetrator to the victims, including false claims of Israeli military or intelligence involvement, assertions of Israeli “foreknowledge” based on misleading or fabricated Google Trends screenshots and posts claiming that victims’ injuries were staged or exaggerated. CyberWell also found a screenshot of a fake Facebook account under the name ‘David Cohen’ circulating across all major platforms with the image of one of terrorists on it. This was used to support the wild conspiracy claiming that the terrorist was a former IDF soldier. “When violence against Jews is justified or reframed through conspiracy narratives meant to shift the blame from perpetrators to victims, the harm does not end with the physical attack,” said Cohen Montemayor. “This discourse strips victims of empathy and accountability and helps normalize further violence against a minority group that is viciously under attack.” CyberWell also noted a shift in how such content spreads online. Rather than being driven mainly by algorithms or bots, much of the amplification after last month’s attack came from real users, in some cases boosted by influencers and recommendation systems that reward sensational or extreme material. “Post-attack glorification of violence and conspiracy-driven victim blaming are indicators of broader societal risk, including erosion of trust, social cohesion, and the breakdown of perceived truth,” Cohen Montemayor added. “Social Media platforms should be leveraging community standards, Trust & Safety mechanisms, and the generative AI to account and mitigate the risks around these conspiracy theories that perpetuate more violence.” CyberWell is an independent, tech-rooted nonprofit combating the spread of antisemitism online, operating globally. Its AI-technologies monitor social media in English and Arabic for posts that promulgate antisemitism, Holocaust denial, and promote violence against Jews and their allies based on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism. Its analysts review and report this content to platform moderators while indexing all verified posts in the first-ever open database of antisemitic social media posts, democratically cataloging it for transparency at: app.cyberwell.org. Through partnerships, education and real-time alerts, CyberWell partners with Social Media Platforms and their moderators to help them enforce their policies more effectively, promoting proactive steps against online Jew-hate.
