Boca Raton Rabbi Releases New Musical Album Ahead Of The Jewish New Year - Songs, Prayers, And Three Generations Of Family Heritage Come Together On The Songs And Prayers Of Rosh Hashanah

Rabbi Ruvi New, Spiritual Leader Of Boca Beach Chabad Jewish Center, Has Released The Songs And Prayers Of Rosh Hashanah, A New Album Timed To The Upcoming Jewish New Year. It Is The Third Release In A Holiday Music Series That Began With Songs Of The Seder, Tied To The Springtime Holiday Of Passover, And Songs Of Yom Kippur, Tied To The Day Of Atonement. Together, Those Two Albums Have Reached Hundreds Of Thousands Of Streams And Downloads.
Every song on the new album is translated into English and spelled out phonetically, so listeners can follow along and sing whether or not they read Hebrew. The goal, Rabbi New says, is to make the Jewish New Year feel welcoming and easy to be part of, for longtime congregants and newcomers alike.
A Memory Passed Down From His Mentor
One of the central rituals of Rosh Hashanah is the sounding of the shofar, a ram's horn blown as part of the holiday's traditions. As a young man, Rabbi New attended shofar ceremonies led by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the widely known spiritual leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, whose teachings and outreach work reached Jewish communities around the world. "The energy in that room, the anticipation, the awe. It's something I've carried with me my whole life." Unable to find any existing recording of the blessings the Rebbe recited before and after the shofar was sounded, Rabbi New recorded his own rendition of it for the album.
A Family Tradition, Three Generations Deep
Part of the album revisits the traditional melodies Rabbi New grew up hearing in Melbourne, Australia, passed down through his grandfather, Rabbi Kluwgant, his great uncle, Rabbi Althaus, and Rabbi Groner, respected rabbis within Melbourne's Jewish community. "The way my grandfather, my great uncle, and Reb Groner prayed growing up in Melbourne is still how I hear these prayers today. Sharing their melodies is humbling and deeply meaningful."
The album is split into two parts: contemporary songs meant for the holiday table and family gatherings, and traditional melodies carried down through generations.
