- A Message from the Mayor: Developing a Parks and Recreation Master Plan for Sunny Isles Beach
A Message from the Mayor: Developing a Parks and Recreation Master Plan for Sunny Isles Beach By Dana Robin Goldman, Mayor of Sunny Isles Beach - www.sibfl.net October 27, 2022 Share The City is embarking on an exciting journey to revamp and revitalize our Parks and Recreation Programs, services and offerings. Our Cultural and Community Services (CCS) department is managing and aiding in the development of a Parks and Recreation Master Plan. What will the Master Plan entail? The long-ranging planning document will develop a Comprehensive Park System Plan that defines the direction, development, and delivery of the City’s Parks and Recreation services over the next 10 years. We intend the plan to have a profound impact on Sunny Isles Beach residents and their future Parks and Recreation System. The purpose is to provide the opportunity to reimagine the vision and goals of the CCS department while establishing a shared set of community needs and priorities. Ultimately, we will build a foundation with a focused direction for the development and delivery of parks, recreation, and community services. Our Parks are the cornerstone of the Sunny Isles Beach community. We have 11 Parks within City limits and 98% of residents live within walking distance of at least one park. Whether your kids play at the Town Center Park playground, you attend Tai Chi at Gateway Center, or bring the whole family to Booogie by the Beach every year at Pelican Community Park, our Parks and Facilities offer something for everyone. The master plan will help determine how to focus, diversify, and expand what you can do at your favorite park. There are four phases to the project: Learning, Exploring, Envisioning, and Implementation. The master plan is currently in the Research and Public Engagement processes, which will identify our community’s needs and priorities in order to begin establishing the long-range vision and its associated recommendations and implementations. Once the Final Master Plan is complete, it will be presented at a public open house before coming to the City Commission for adoption. The most important part of the master plan process is your input. Feedback from the community is essential to building a well- rounded and realistic plan that our community will be proud to enjoy. Beginning later this month, we invite you to our Virtual Open House where you can help establish your community vision. Accessible online at https://oursibparksplan.com/ - you will watch a short welcome video, view information boards and participate in a series of engagement exercises to provide your input. The Virtual Open House will be accessible at any time and we encourage you to share the link with your friends and neighbors. Looking ahead, we will be distributing an online survey that we hope to gain your honest feedback. The Parks and Recreation Master Plan is an important opportunity that will provide a guideline to best respond to the changing needs and priorities of our residents and community. Together we will reach new heights for a healthy, sustainable, and equitable future for all Sunny Isles Beach residents. Hollywood Beach Renourishment Project Update January 11, 2024 Share Now that Turtle Nesting Season is over, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer contractor has resumed work in Broward County. Having just completed work in Hallandale Beach, they have begun work at the south end of Hollywood Beach. They will continue using their staging area in Hallandale Beach to place sand in Hollywood until they reach the Diplomat Beach Resort. Then they’ll shift to the staging area at Keating Park. Sand will be placed from the southern boundary of Hollywood to Iris Terrace. Sand placement will continue from Scott Street to Balboa Street in the north. The schedule intends to have all work completed by April 30th, 2024. Project Details Segment III of the Broward County Shore Protection Project continues through April 2024. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) awarded the Segment III Beach Renourishment Construction Contract to Continental Heavy Civil Corporation. The project area is along the shorelines of Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park, Dania, Hollywood, and Hallandale Beaches. This project is expected to place approximately 887,000 cubic yards of Upland Sand along the shoreline, with a 100% cost share by the Federal Government. Where feasible, Shore Protective Dunes may be placed to complement this project. Construction will only occur on Upland Beaches where Property Owners have granted Construction Easement and, where Construction Easement has not been granted, Sand will only be placed below the Erosion Control Line, which defines the boundary between State Sovereign Submerged Lands and Upland Ownership. Beach Construction Access and/or Staging will be at the discretionary needs of the Construction Vendor. Hollywood Schedule: Beach Renourishment began in Hollywood's South Beach in December and construction is expected to be completed by April 30th, 2024. Formed in Tampa in 1972, The Outlaws, known for their triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies, became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis at the urging of Ronnie Van Zant. The band’s first three albums, “The Outlaws,” “Lady In Waiting” and “Hurry Sundown,” featuring such rock radio favorites as “There Goes Another Love Song,” “Green Grass & High Tides,” “Knoxville Girl” and “Freeborn Man,” would become worldwide gold and platinum landmarks of the Southern rock era. Known as The Florida Guitar Army by their fans, The Outlaws earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act while touring with friends The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band, as well as The Doobie Brothers, The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones. Tony® Award Winner Levi Kreis brings his Home for The Holidays Tour to the Amaturo Theater as part of the Baptist Health Red Carpet Series on Thursday, December 5th at 8:00 p.m. With a seamless blend of Jazz, Gospel, Country and Rockabilly, Kreis delivers a fresh and unique perspective to a flawless collection of Christmas classics and holiday favorites. From uproarious storytelling to soul-stirring renditions, Kreis will leave audiences laughing, crying and filled with the spirit of the season. Comedian and podcaster Ryan Sickler brings his Live and Alive tour to the Amaturo Theater on Friday, December 6th at 8:00 p.m. as part of the Truist Comedy Series. After creating three thriving podcasts (“The HoneyDew,” “The HoneyDew with Y'all” and “The CrabFeast”), Sickler launched “The Wayback” in 2024 and immediately claimed the number one spot on the charts among comedy interview podcasts in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. His comedic credentials include skillfully guiding stand-up comics and storytellers through humorous explorations of life's lowlights on “The HoneyDew.” Sickler secured the number one spot on the Billboard and iTunes comedy charts with his album “Get a Hold of Yourself.” In 2023, he starred in, directed and produced the standup special “Lefty's Son.” This event contains adult language or content. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Emery Entertainment present Christmas with C.S. Lewis starring David Payne in the Amaturo Theater on Saturday, December 7th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The year is 1962, and C.S. Lewis, the famous British author who gave the world “The Chronicles of Narnia” and a Christian legacy that few can match, is hosting a group of American writers at his home just outside of Oxford during the twilight years of his life. They have come to hear him speak about significant events and people that shaped his life. As it is Christmas time, Lewis also reflects on how he views this festive season in a display of oratory and humor that made Lewis one of England's most famous public speakers. One of the world’s most spectacular Queen tribute bands comes to the Au-Rene Theater with One Vision of Queen featuring Marc Martel, part of the Cleveland Clinic Rock Series on Sunday, December 8th at 7:00 p.m. “We Will Rock You,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “We are the Champions” and the legendary “Bohemian Rhapsody” are songs that just scratch the surface of Queen’s legacy. The one and only Freddie Mercury’s unique vocals have made it nearly impossible to perform his music as he did. Finally, Marc Martel and One Vision of Queen perform Mercury’s music the way it is meant to be performed. Legendary Queen drummer Roger Taylor remarked to the Daily Record, “That voice. You listen, close your eyes and you think it’s Freddie. It’s really uncanny.” Martel performs vocals on the Oscar®-Winning Queen biopic film, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” With unique theatrical performance style and eye-popping production, One Vision of Queen gives audiences a front row seat to one of the greatest bands of all time. Generously underwritten by Richard Herter & Dennis Baney and by Rachel & Ron Antevy. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Live Nation present the Whiskey Myers Acoustic Tour 2024 with special guests Cody Canada and Wade Bowen on Tuesday, December 10th at 8:00 p.m. in the Au-Rene Theater. Described by USA Today as “a riff-heavy blend of Southern rock and gritty country that has earned comparisons to the Allman Brothers Band and Led Zeppelin,” genre-bending band Whiskey Myers has played more than 2,500 live shows to ever-increasing crowd sizes since their emergence in 2007. In addition to headlining their own sold-out shows from coast to coast at iconic venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheater and Ryman Auditorium and performing at marquee festivals Bonnaroo, Stagecoach, Download and more, the six-piece opened for The Rolling Stones’ 2019 Chicago stadium show. Their self-produced album “Tornillo,” available via the band’s own Wiggy Thump Records, features the number 17 most-played Americana song of 2022 “John Wayne,” and follows their fifth studio album, “Whiskey Myers,” which debuted at number one on the country and Americana/Folk sales charts, at number two on the rock chart and number six on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. Whiskey Myers has sold more than 1.65 million albums and amassed more than 2.25 billion streams while earning six RIAA Gold & Platinum certifications as an independent band. Known for their high-energy live show and unique sound, the band, praised by Esquire as “the real damn deal,” has also earned sync success with features and an on-screen appearance in Paramount’s hit show “Yellowstone” as well as the Netflix series “What/If,” Angelina Jolie film “Those Who Wish Me Dead” and CBS series “SEAL Team.” As Rolling Stone noted of Whiskey Myers, “it’s the seminal combination of twang and crunchy Rock & Roll guitars that hits a perfect sweet spot.” The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, AEG Presents and Emporium Presents bring The Fab Four: U.S.A. Meets the Beatles to the Au-Rene Theater as part of the Cleveland Clinic Rock Series on Friday, December 13th at 7:30 p.m. Acknowledged as the ultimate tribute to The Beatles, The Fab Four delivers uncanny, note-for-note live renditions of Beatles classics such as "Can't Buy Me Love," "Yesterday," "A Day In The Life," "Twist And Shout," "Here Comes The Sun," and "Hey Jude." Their stage performance combined with three costume changes representing every era of The Beatles has amazed audiences in countries around the world including in Japan, Australia, France, Hong Kong, the UK, Germany, Mexico and Brazil. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the Performance Project present “Narnia,” a musical adaptation of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” as part of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Imagination Series on Friday, December 13th at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 15th at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The first and most famous novel of acclaimed British author C.S. Lewis’s “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, the musical follows four English schoolchildren, brothers and sisters, sent away from London during World War II to stay in the manor house of their uncle. They stumble upon the magical kingdom of Narnia held in the power of the White Witch, whose evil spell has frozen the land so that it is “always winter – and never Christmas.” In this spellbound landscape, filled with creatures of myth and fable, the children learn deep lessons of courage, unselfishness and wisdom that help them grow in spirit and prepare them for life in our world. Featuring the Performance Project students and the professional actors who mentor them, the musical soars from the excitement of the opening number, "Doors and Windows," to the poetry of "Narnia (You Can't Imagine)" to the stirring "To Make the World Right Again." Also at the Broward Center in December: Men Who Dance from November 30th – December 1st, Florida Grand Opera: The Magic Flute on December 5th, Symphony of the Americas: Holiday POPS! on December 8th & December 10th and Gold Coast Jazz: Bobby Watson Quartet, Post Motown Bop on December 11th. - New Legislation: Impacting Aventura Condominiums
New Legislation: Impacting Aventura Condominiums July 7, 2022 Share The City of Aventura was proud to host their own Senator, Jason Pizzo, as well as Senator Jennifer Bradley, who sponsored the New Condo Legislation, Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book and Speaker Designate of the Florida House, Daniel Perez for a Town Hall on the new Law. If you missed the Town Hall, you can find a full video of the Event on the City's YouTube Page At: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rLp4Z0nzCk Under the new Law, buildings in Aventura will undergo an Initial Recertification 25 years after Construction. Under the Prior Law, this Recertification was done after 40 years. Once Recertification takes place, buildings will undergo Recertification every 10 years. Recertification requires that the building undergo Structural and Electrical Inspections and make any necessary Repairs. Condominiums will now be required to undergo a Reserve Study to determine their needs every ten years and Fully Fund Reserves for Structural Integrity. Associations have until 2025 to achieve Fully Funded Reserves. This Requirement only applies to Structural Reserves. Funds for things such as upgrading the appearance of Common Areas or Replacing Furniture or Equipment remain at the discretion of each Association. Last year, The City of Aventura Adopted the First Legislation in Florida which requires all of its buildings to submit any Engineering Reports it receives to the City. All Engineering Reports Submitted to the City are published on the City of Aventura’s Web-Site and are available for viewing to the Public At: https://www.cityofaventura.com/ < Previous News Next News >

- The Show Must Go On…As Well As a Mask: Face Coverings and a Recent Negative COVID-19 Test Policy To Be Implemented
The Show Must Go On…As Well As a Mask: Face Coverings and a Recent Negative COVID-19 Test Policy To Be Implemented September 16, 2021 Share For entry to performances, all guests 12 years of age and older are asked to provide documentation of a recent negative COVID-19 PCR test result conducted within 72 hours prior to the performance Among the first to close when the pandemic began, The Broward Center for the Performing Arts has announced new health and safety protocols that will enable it to welcome back artists, audiences, staff and volunteers to all of the stages at the Broward Center and The Parker. Mandatory face coverings for performances and guest documentation showing a recent negative COVID-19 test will be required for all patrons attending ticketed performances. As an alternative to a negative test result, patrons are given the option to provide documentation showing full vaccination status. The policy will be implemented beginning Wednesday, September 22nd, 2021 with a 2021/2022 Season opening concert at The Parker by Firefall, Pure Prairie League and Orleans. The policy applies to all ticketed events including those presented by the Broward Center and its partners in the arts including Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Grand Opera, Gold Coast Jazz, Miami City Ballet, Slow Burn Theatre Company and Symphony of the Americas. “Since the pandemic closed concert halls around the world, we have been working with other industry leaders who share a deep commitment to public, guest and staff safety on a path forward to raising the curtain again,” said Broward Center President and CEO Kelley Shanley. “The return of live performing arts depends on artist and audience confidence. Many artists are now requesting these types of safety protocols, and our new policy is quickly becoming the industry standard and similar to those being implemented by Broadway theaters, major concert promoters and venues around the nation.” The Broward Center is following health and safety guidelines developed in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic that have been informed by guidance of public health officials including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In addition to the guest entry policy, vaccinations are required for staff, volunteers and crew working performances. Any guest two years of age or older is required to wear a suitable face covering that covers the nose, mouth and chin (rather than gaiters, shields or respirator masks) while inside the venues. For entry to performances, all guests 12 years of age and older are asked to provide documentation of a recent negative COVID-19 PCR test result conducted within 72 hours prior to the performance, or a negative COVID-19 Antigen test result conducted within 24 hours prior to the performance start time. The test result can be printed or digital (including an email or text message from the test provider displayed on a phone or electronic device), but must clearly reflect the name of the guest, the date of the test, the type of test performed and the negative test result. As an alternative, fully vaccinated guests have the option of presenting documentation of full vaccination with the final dose at least 14 days prior to the performance date. Acceptable documentation may be the original vaccination card, a printed copy of the vaccination card or a digital copy of such card. As part of the new policy, staff will check for matching photo identification. The venues will not duplicate nor retain any of the documentation provided by guests. It is the responsibility of the ticket purchaser to communicate these policies to all those who will be using the tickets. Performance ticket holders who do not comply with these policies may be required to leave the theater without refund. Specific health & safety guidelines, which will continue to evolve as the environment changes, are available at BrowardCenter.org/safety and will be communicated to ticket holders in advance of performances. Refunds are available for anyone who submits confirmation of a positive test result in the ten-day period prior to the performance. For tickets purchased through resale or third-party sites, ticket holders should contact those purchase sites directly to determine their refund policies.
