  • Who’s Shaking The Jar...and Why? Whether You Live in a Small Town or a Big City, the Government Is Still Out to Get You

Who’s Shaking The Jar...and Why? Whether You Live in a Small Town or a Big City, the Government Is Still Out to Get You By John & Nisha Whitehead August 10, 2023 Share There’s a meme that circulated on social media a while back that perfectly sums up the polarized, manipulated mayhem, madness and tyranny that is life in the American police state today: “If you catch 100 red fire ants as well as 100 large black ants, and put them in a jar, at first, nothing will happen. However, if you violently shake the jar and dump them back on the ground the ants will fight until they eventually kill each other. The thing is, the red ants think the black ants are the enemy and vice versa, when in reality, the real enemy is the person who shook the jar. This is exactly what’s happening in society today. Liberal vs. Conservative. Black vs. White. Pro Mask vs. Anti Mask. The real question we need to be asking ourselves is who’s shaking the jar ... and why?” Whether red ants will really fight black ants to the death is a question for the biologists, but it’s an apt analogy of what’s playing out before us on the political scene and a chilling lesson in social engineering that keeps us fixated on circus politics and conveniently timed spectacles, distracted from focusing too closely on the government’s power grabs, and incapable of focusing on who’s really shaking the jar. This controversy over Jason Aldean’s country music video, “Try That In a Small Town,” which is little more than authoritarian propaganda pretending to be respect for law and order, is just more of the same. The music video, riddled with images of militarized police facing off against rioters, implies that there are only two types of people in this country: those who stand with the government and those who oppose it. Yet the song gets it wrong. You see, it makes no difference whether you live in a small town or a big city, or whether you stand with the government or mobilize against it: either way, the government is still out to get you. Indeed, the government’s prosecution of the Jan. 6 protesters (part of a demographic that might relate to the frontier justice sentiments in Aldean’s song) is a powerful reminder that the police state doesn’t discriminate when it comes to hammering away at those who challenge its authority. It also serves to underscore the government’s tone-deaf hypocrisy in the face of its own double-crossing, double-dealing, double standards. Imagine: the very same government that violates the rights of its citizenry at almost every turn is considering charging President Trump with conspiring against the rights of the American people. It’s so ludicrous as to be Kafkaesque. If President Trump is indicted over the events that culminated in the Capitol riots of Jan. 6, 2021, the government could hinge part of their case on Section 241 of Title 18 of the U.S. Code, which makes it a crime for two or more people to “conspire to injure, oppress, threaten or intimidate” anyone “with intent to prevent or hinder his free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege” the person enjoys under the U.S. Constitution. That the government, which now constitutes the greatest threat to our freedoms, would appoint itself the so-called defender of our freedoms shows exactly how farcical, topsy-turvy, and downright perverse life in the American police state has become. Unfortunately, “we the people” are partially to blame for allowing this double standard to persist. While we may claim to value freedom, privacy, individuality, equality, diversity, accountability, and government transparency, our actions and those of our government rulers contradict these much-vaunted principles at every turn. Even though the government continues to betray our trust, invade our privacy, and abuse our rights, we just keep going back for more. For instance, we claim to disdain the jaded mindset of the Washington elite, and yet we continue to re-elect politicians who lie, cheat and steal. We claim to disapprove of the endless wars that drain our resources and spread thin our military, and yet we repeatedly buy into the idea that patriotism equals supporting the military. We claim to chafe at taxpayer-funded pork barrel legislation for roads to nowhere, documentaries on food fights, and studies of mountain lions running on treadmills, and yet we pay our taxes meekly and without raising a fuss of any kind. We claim to object to the militarization of our local police forces and their increasingly battlefield mindset, and yet we do little more than shrug our shoulders over SWAT team raids and police shootings of unarmed citizens. And then there’s our supposed love-hate affair with technology, which sees us bristling at the government’s efforts to monitor our internet activities, listen in on our phone calls, read our emails, track our every movement, and punish us for what we say on social media, and yet we keep using these very same technologies all the while doing nothing about the government’s encroachments on our rights. By tacitly allowing these violations to continue and legitimizing a government that has long since ceased to operate within the framework of the Constitution, we not only empower the tyrant but we feed the monster. This is exactly how incremental encroachments on our rights, justified in the name of greater safety, become routine, wide-ranging abuses so entrenched as to make reform all but impossible. The tactics follow the same script: first, the government lures us in with a scheme to make our lives better, our families safer, and our communities more secure, and then once we take the bait, they slam the trap closed and turn “we the people” into Enemy Number One. Despite how evident it is that we are mere tools to be used and abused and manipulated for the power elite’s own diabolical purposes, we somehow fail to see their machinations for what they truly are: thinly veiled attempts to expand their power and wealth at our expense. So here we are, caught in a vicious cycle of in-fighting and partisan politics, all the while the government—which never stops shaking the jar—is advancing its agenda to lockdown the nation. As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, until we can face up to that truth and forge our own path back to a world in which freedom means something again, we’re going to be stuck in this wormhole of populist anger, petty politics and destruction that is pitting us one against the other. In that scenario, no one wins, whether you live in a small town or big city. • The Tides Have Shifted For South Florida Real Estate

The Tides Have Shifted For South Florida Real Estate By Ricardo Wolf August 19, 2021 Share This new wave of domestic buyers, includes people from all over the country, but those doing the heavy lifting, stem from the domestic Northeast, as well as, an uncharacteristic surge of buyers, from California. South Florida has become the new frontier for a growing number of domestic US residents, primarily those with the financial means to stake their claim on much of South Florida’s most coveted coastal properties. While South Florida is quite familiar with eras of massive migrations and uncharacteristic demand for coastal real estate, today's circumstances should not be confused with those experienced in the past. Unlike prior boom markets, today’s is gimmick free, with no tax shelter loopholes or unscrupulous lending practices responsible for fueling demand. However, this boom did not come without reason, nor did it develop overnight. Instead, it is the culmination of several factors that have once again led the masses to our sandy shores. While these circumstances may prove to enrich many, while creating opportunities for many more, there will be casualties in this battle for South Florida’s most desirable real estate. Today’s phenomenon involves a surprisingly unusual demographic, one that not very long ago would have never seriously considered leaving their current cities and states to become actual Florida residents. This wave of enthusiastic new buyers need not bring their passports, and many won’t even have to fly commercial. Instead, they are quite affluent and very familiar with what South Florida has to offer. They also understand real estate and have been eagerly swallowing up our most intrinsically valuable multi-million-dollar residences without batting a lash and paying in cash. These buyers have long loved coming to South Florida to escape the hustle and bustle of America’s biggest cities, avoid grueling winters, or to unwind while enjoying Florida’s beaches, the Atlantic Ocean, great weather, and the unmistakable vibe of a culturally rich cosmopolitan city that produces an intoxicating cocktail of fun, sun, and relaxation. This new wave of domestic buyers includes people from all over the country, but those doing the heavy lifting stem from the domestic Northeast, as well as an uncharacteristic surge of buyers from California. While sales to buyers from the northeast does not seem too far-fetched, having buyers from the West Coast flock to Florida is very telling. It is a direct reflection of states that are doing things right, and those that are doing things terribly wrong. This is all occurring while conditions in counties throughout the globe continue to deteriorate, further influencing international buyers to hurry up and purchase before being completely priced out of the market. This has placed great pressure on the market, with a buying public quickly running out of options and driving prices, and a selling public with the fear of never being able to replace what they so eagerly would love to sell. People on both ends of the transaction are somewhat overwhelmed by the conditions they have found themselves in, and both sides have very powerful incentives to do what they would have never considered doing not very long ago. All these developments, while never anticipated, are all eagerly welcomed by anyone directly or indirectly involved with the activity being experienced, as our cities continue to grow and thrive under extremely difficult conditions. But, at the end of the day, sellers that want to sell will be able to do so, and usually at a price far above what they could have anticipated just 12 months ago, and there is nothing to indicate that will change anytime soon. Buyer’s will also be able to find their place in South Florida’s coastal market, but those with the deepest pockets and the fastest execution look to benefit most. Unfortunately, for there to be winners, there must be losers, and many times those most affected have little or no good options to consider. For years, full time and part time South Florida coastal residents have enjoyed a healthy supply of luxury waterfront condominium units available for lease, usually at prices below the unit’s actual carrying cost. South Florida has long been known as an investor’s paradise, where one could buy a property, rent it, maybe use it sometimes, while safeguarding their wealth and speculating on the property's future worth. This is a very significant sector of South Florida’s real estate market that represents a large percentage of properties commonly found in our rental inventory. With new buyer’s now offering investors/owners a healthy profit for their properties, tenants are quickly being replaced by new owner residents and future rental inventory is quickly being diminished. The rental market is further being exhausted due to those selling their homes, as they quickly find out that finding a great deal may take some time and that renting a condo for a while may be their only option. Unfortunately, waiting on the sidelines for the market to cool long enough to find a great deal could now cost one a small fortune, in what has become a very costly and challenging rental market, and with no assurance that great purchasing opportunity will ever come again. Aside from very real challenges regarding how the city, county and state government is able to manage growth and mitigating the negative effects that usually accompany a boom of this nature, many will do extremely well financially due to the conditions being felt across South Florida and the State. However, it is very easy to lose sight of what you lose when you’re only focused on the prize. As for those renting a home, it is only a matter of time before you are asked to either move on or pay much more for far less. If that works for you, bravo. < Previous News Next News >

  • Sleigh The Scammers - AI-Powered Travel Scams To Watch Out For This Christmas Holiday

Sleigh The Scammers - AI-Powered Travel Scams To Watch Out For This Christmas Holiday December 12, 2024 Share Thanks to AI, scammers no longer need to be tech experts to create convincing websites that mimic legitimate travel booking platforms. Often advertising irresistible prices for flights and accommodations, these sites lure travelers with offers that seem too good to miss. Fraudsters also often play on urgency, using phrases like “limited-time sale” or “only 1 left” to push consumers into making quick decisions. Once you input your details, scammers can steal your personal and financial information, leaving you with a ticket to nowhere and out of pocket. Protect yourself this holiday by being extra vigilant when booking travel online. Watch out for suspicious URLs, small spelling errors or anything that feels off about the website's design or offers. Double-check through official channels and read verified reviews before submitting your personal information. As a rule of thumb, if an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. AI chatbots offering fake travel deals AI-powered chatbots can be used by scammers to impersonate customer service representatives, offering huge discounts on flights, hotels, or holiday packages. These bots may ask for sensitive personal information or prompt users to pay upfront for non-existent trips. To avoid falling victim, verify any deals or offers you find online through official travel websites and avoid providing payment information through unfamiliar channels. If something feels too rushed, it's a red flag. Double-check all details and confirm through official customer service numbers or emails before finalizing any travel booking. Phishing emails and text messages One in five people click on AI-generated phishing emails, with a shocking 65% tricked into revealing personal information through input fields on websites linked in those emails. Scammers are using AI to craft highly convincing phishing content disguised as legitimate companies. Imagine receiving a text or email claiming your flight is canceled, and to avoid losing your reservation, you must click a link and enter your payment details immediately. The pressure to act quickly could lead you to inadvertently put your financial information into the hands of fraudsters. To stay safe this holiday season, never click on suspicious links or provide sensitive information through unsolicited emails or texts. Always check the sender’s email address, and be cautious of any communication that asks for personal details. If in doubt, contact the airline, hotel, or travel agency directly. AI-generated holiday reviews Fake AI-generated airline reviews have skyrocketed by an eye-popping 189%, while Tripadvisor alone flagged a record 2 million reviews as fake on its platform last year. With the rise of AI tools like ChatGPT, scammers can now generate hundreds of seemingly genuine, glowing reviews in minutes, making it harder for travelers to distinguish between real and fraudulent content. To avoid being duped, cross-check reviews across multiple sources and don’t rely solely on reviews from travel booking websites. Instead, check independent review platforms and Social Media for additional feedback. Pay attention to patterns - if a place has an unusually high number of extremely positive reviews posted in a short period of time, it's likely a red flag that they've been generated by AI or planted by scammers. Authentic reviews tend to be more balanced, including both positive and constructive feedback. Fake travel itineraries and AI-generated images While many travelers nowadays use AI to help plan their trips, scammers are also taking advantage of this technology to create professional-looking itineraries designed to deceive. These fake itineraries often feature attractive holiday packages that promise an unforgettable vacation at an unbeatable price, with AI-generated images used to promote false activities, making everything seem enticing. Once you send a deposit or full payment, you might find that your dream holiday doesn't exist at all! To steer clear of sneaky fraudsters, stay alert when presented with offers that seem too good to be true and verify the source. AI-generated itineraries may appear polished, but they often contain subtle inconsistencies. Check for missing or mismatched details and examine the photos closely - AI-generated images can have imperfections like unnatural lighting or blurry areas. Christoph C. Cemper, Founder of AIPRM provides expert commentary on identifying AI scams when booking holidays online, as well as what to do if you think you have fallen victim to an AI scam: “I believe that a (false sense) of urgency, no matter how well explained (using Generative AI) is the top red flag for any kind of scams, including those for booking trips and holidays. Nowadays, nearly anything can be faked with AI so if it is ‘too’ well written, ‘too’ good to be true in the offer, or ‘too nice’ in pictures, then I would be especially careful. The most common form of AI scam is a phishing ‘offer,’ that lures the user into providing their personal or payment details too soon/too early based on vague promises that seem too good to resist. Such impulse actions are used to harvest the data as quickly as possible, without much to do once the data is revealed. I know of cases where the legal and police systems were busy for months due to an identity theft incident where the victim barely remembers engaging with. If you think you have fallen victim to a scam, as painful as it is, any kind of revealed information needs to be rendered useless. You can hardly move to another place, so fake ecommerce orders can still happen, but locking down your credit card is the first and most simple thing to do. Contacting your bank as soon as possible is essential. While reporting the incident to the police or a cyber-crime unit is recommended, it’s worth noting that these reports often result in education for the victim rather than immediate resolution.” < Previous News Next News >

  • Florida's Finest: Hometown Heroes Head To Paris For The Olympics

Florida's Finest: Hometown Heroes Head To Paris For The Olympics August 1, 2024 Share The Paris Olympic Games has been underway for a week and around 10,500 athletes from 206 different National Olympic Committees are expected to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with a significant proportion coming from Team USA. But where in the US are these athletes from? www.LiveSportsOnTV.com , a company that provides schedules for streaming and TV sports, carried out a study to analyze the birth states of US Olympians to identify which states will have the largest representation at the Paris Olympics. To provide a more accurate picture, they weighted each state by population, revealing which states produce the highest proportion of athletes. This study offers fresh insights into the geographic distribution of American athletic talent, here's who to watch. A Diverse Lineup from the Sunshine State Florida has the 2nd most athletes competing in the Paris Olympics, making it one of the top contributors to Team USA. These include athletes taking part in Basketball, Boxing, Breaking, Cycling, Diving, Golf, Judo, Rowing, Rugby, Sailing, Shooting, Skateboarding, Surfing, Swimming, Taekwondo, Tennis, Track and Field, Water Polo, and Artistic Swimming. Her journey from Miami to Olympic stardom has inspired many in her community and beyond, highlighting the diversity and talent flourishing in Florida. Daniella Ramirez: Artistic Swimming's Rising Star Daniella Ramirez, a 22-year-old Synchronized Swimmer from Miami, brings a legacy of excellence in her sport. Raised in a family of Synchronized Swimmers, including her grandmother, mother, and sister, Ramirez has followed in their footsteps with a dream to study Architecture after her Swimming Career. Her journey from the virtual classrooms of Florida Virtual School to the pools of Paris represents a blend of academic pursuit and athletic achievement, embodying the multidimensional aspirations of Florida's Olympians. Bam Adebayo: Basketball's Powerhouse While not a native Floridian, Bam Adebayo has embraced Miami as his home since joining the Miami Heat in the NBA. A rising star in Professional Basketball, Adebayo's inclusion in the USA Men's Basketball Team underscores his pivotal role in the sport. Affectionately known as "Bamerica" among Miami Heat fans, Adebayo's journey from courts across America to the Olympic stage exemplifies the global appeal of Florida as a magnet for sports talent. Twanisha Terry: Sprinting towards Olympic Glory Twanisha Terry, a 25-year-old Sprinter known affectionately as TeeTee, embodies the spirit of determination and triumph. A product of Miami's competitive Track and Field environment, Terry's accolades include two gold medals at the World Athletics Championships, setting the stage for her Olympic debut in the 100m Dash. Her journey from the local tracks of Miami to the global stage of the Olympics exemplifies the transformative power of sports in shaping lives and communities. Perry Baker: Rugby Baker, 38, is from Daytona Beach and rugby wasn't his first sport. He played football for Fairmont State, an NCAA Division II team in West Virginia, and had been signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011 but a knee injury ended his NFL career. Danielle Collins: Tennis Collins, 30, is from St. Petersburg and was on the Florida Gators' tennis team before transferring to the University of Virginia. She turned pro in 2016 and has won four WTA singles tournaments, including the 2024 Miami Open. Collins, also known as “Danimal," announced in January that the 2024 season would be her last. Kassidy Cook: Diving Cook, 29, of Plantation started diving when she was just 3. She missed qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics by one spot but made the team for the 2016 Rio Olympics, finishing 13th on the 3 meter springboard. Cook and Sarah Bacon will compete in women’s synchronized 3-meter in Paris. LeBron James: Basketball & Team USA Flagbearer In a historic announcement that reverberated through the sports world, LeBron James, the iconic two-time Olympic gold medallist and four-time NBA champion, has been selected as Team USA’s flagbearer for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. The news, delivered by fellow basketball superstar Steph Curry just before Team USA’s hard-fought 92-88 victory over Germany on July 22, marked a poignant moment in James’ illustrious career. On July 26, James stepped onto the global stage as the first men’s basketball player to bear the American flag during an Olympic Opening Ceremony. This honor underscored not only his sporting achievements but also his profound impact on and off the basketball court. Since his Olympic debut in 2004, where he clinched a bronze medal, LeBron James has transcended the sport, earning the moniker 'King James' for his unparalleled prowess and leadership. With an impressive NBA career that includes four MVP titles and a record-breaking twenty All-Star appearances, James has cemented his legacy as one of basketball’s greatest. Beyond his athletic feats, James’ influence extends far beyond the hardwood. Through initiatives like the LeBron James Family Foundation, he has dedicated himself to uplifting his hometown of Akron, Ohio, and advocating for social justice causes. His activism has resonated globally, making him a role model for millions worldwide. "It’s super humbling," remarked James upon receiving the news of his selection as flagbearer, highlighting the significance of representing his country once again at the pinnacle of global sports. As Team USA prepares to defend its basketball supremacy in Paris, LeBron James will lead a contingent of athletes embodying the spirit of excellence and unity. His presence as flagbearer not only celebrates his extraordinary career but also symbolizes the values of determination, resilience, and sportsmanship that define the Olympic Games. Supporting Florida's Olympians Beyond their athletic prowess, Florida's Olympians are deeply rooted in their communities, with stories that resonate far beyond the sports arenas. Take Twanisha Terry, a Sprinter from Miami Northwestern Senior High School, whose journey to the Olympics alongside teammates like Sha'Carri Richardson symbolizes the perseverance and camaraderie nurtured in Florida's vibrant Track and Field scene. Florida's Olympic Legacy As Florida's Olympians prepare to compete in Paris, they carry with them the hopes and dreams of their communities and the legacy of athletic excellence nurtured in the Sunshine State. From the pristine beaches of Miami to the bustling streets of Fort Lauderdale, these hometown heroes embody the spirit of perseverance, diversity, and achievement that define Florida's sporting landscape. As the world watches the Paris 2024 Olympic Games unfold, Florida stands proud as a powerhouse of talent and a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes everywhere. In the words of Emil Sturesson from www.LiveSportsOnTV.com , "Our study highlights the incredible athletic talent spread across the United States, and we look forward to watching Team USA perform and seeing these athletes achieve their dreams on the world stage." As the countdown to the Paris Olympics begins, Florida's Olympians stand ready to showcase their skills, unite their communities, and leave a lasting legacy in the annals of sporting history. Others States To Watch Washington, DC Although technically not a state, when weighed against population size, Washington, DC emerged with the gold medal in terms of number of athletes per capita (4 representatives). Possibly the most well-known athlete being NBA player, also known by his initials KD, who plays for the Phoenix Suns. Hawaii Hawaii, a state known for its Watersports, emerged in second place with 5 athletes, including John John Florence, one of the world’s leading and most recognizable surfers. Colorado In the bronze medal position, Colorado is to be represented by 19 athletes. Unsurprisingly, for a state made up of mountains, two of its Olympic representatives will be competing in sport climbing. California California not only has the highest number of athletes going to Paris, but also the 4th highest per capita, with 123 athletes. California is renowned for its sporting prowess, being home to numerous top-tier training facilities and a climate conducive to year-round outdoor training. This state has produced some of the most celebrated Olympians in history, and its representation in the 2024 Olympics is no different. Notable athletes include Allyson Felix, the most decorated Track and Field athlete in Olympic history, and Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time. "Our study highlights the incredible athletic talent spread across the United States, and we look forward to watching Team USA perform and seeing these athletes achieve their dreams on the world stage,” says Emil Sturesson of www.LiveSportsOnTV.com To check when your favorite Olympian competes visit: https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/schedule/grid < Previous News Next News >

  • Beyond Beauty: How Hair Impacts Overall Health And Wellness

Beyond Beauty: How Hair Impacts Overall Health And Wellness By Merilee Kern July 13, 2023 Share As an essential part of our identity, hair has captivated human fascination for centuries. It serves as a crowning glory that holds cultural, social and personal significance. From the ancient Egyptians' elaborate wigs to the modern-day hairstyles that reflect individuality, hair has always been an integral aspect of our lives. Exemplifying this are burgeoning industry revenues, with the hair care segment reportedly amounting to a staggering U.S. $13.44 Billion in 2023. “Hair is more than just strands on our heads; it is a rich tapestry that is also consequential to our health and wellness,” says Renowned Master Stylist Joseph Ryan Hughes. “Hair is much more than an aesthetic accessory. In fact, it can serve as an indicator of our internal health, often providing the first signs of nutritional deficiencies or other underlying conditions. Beyond beauty and style, treating hair with the same level of care and concern as other aspects of self-care helps us stay in sync with our bodies and promotes overall wellness.” Beyond its cultural importance, hair is a fascinating biological marvel. Our hair follicles are tiny factories producing a Protein called Keratin, the main component of hair. It grows from the scalp at an average rate of half an inch per month, with each strand having a lifespan of 2 to 7 years. The diversity of hair textures, colors and patterns is a result of Genetics, Hormonal Influences, and Environmental Factors. Furthermore, the structure of hair has captivated scientists, leading to advancements in Forensic Analysis and Drug Testing. The condition of one's hair can be a helpful indicator of Overall Health. Factors such as Nutrition, Hormonal Balance and general Well-Being can influence the appearance and quality of hair. Thinning, brittle, or dull hair may be a sign of underlying health issues that require attention. Things like: Nutritional Deficiencies: Our hair requires a variety of essential Nutrients, including Vitamins, Minerals and Proteins, for healthy growth. A lack of these nutrients can result in hair problems such as dryness, brittleness, or slow growth. For instance, insufficient levels of Iron, Biotin, or Zinc may lead to hair loss or thinning. By observing changes in hair texture, strength, or shine, one can potentially identify underlying nutritional deficiencies that need attention. Hormonal Imbalances: Hormones play a crucial role in regulating hair growth cycles. Imbalances in Hormone Levels, such as those experienced during Pregnancy, Menopause, or certain medical conditions, can impact hair health. For example, the Hormonal Condition known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) often leads to excessive hair growth or hair thinning in specific areas. Monitoring changes in hair patterns can provide early clues to Hormonal Imbalances and prompt further investigation. Stress and Emotional Well-Being: Excessive Stress or emotional turmoil can manifest in hair-related issues. Conditions like Alopecia Areata, where hair loss occurs in patches, can be triggered or exacerbated by Stress. Additionally, Stress-Induced habits like excessive hair pulling (Trichotillomania) can lead to noticeable hair loss. Therefore, changes in hair density or the presence of bald patches may prompt individuals to address and manage their Emotional Well-Being. Systemic Diseases and Disorders: Certain Systemic Diseases and Disorders can manifest symptoms through hair changes. For example: Thyroid Imbalances, such as Hypothyroidism or Hyperthyroidism, can cause hair thinning or hair loss. Conditions like: Lupus, Diabetes, and Autoimmune Disorders may also affect hair health. Recognizing unusual changes in hair texture, growth patterns, or sudden hair loss can serve as a sign to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. Medications and Treatments: Various medications, including Chemotherapy Drugs, may cause hair loss or changes in hair texture as a side effect. Monitoring hair-related changes during medication use or after undergoing certain treatments can aid in understanding and managing these effects. In some cases, hair regrowth may occur once the treatment is completed or adjusted. Protection and Sensation Hair serves as a protective barrier for the scalp against environmental elements such as sunlight, dust, and pollutants. It also helps regulate body temperature by providing insulation. Additionally, hair on the body, such as eyelashes and eyebrows, helps protect the eyes from debris and plays a role in tactile sensation. So if hair is thinning or completely lost in these areas, there can be serious implications. Psychological Well-Being Hair can have a profound impact on an individual's Self-Esteem and Psychological Well-Being. Experiencing hair loss, thinning or other hair-related issues can lead to feelings of self-consciousness, embarrassment and even Anxiety or Depression. On the other hand, having healthy and attractive hair can contribute to a positive self-image, boost confidence and enhance Overall Mental Well-Being. Indeed, the connection between vibrant, healthy hair and self-confidence is undeniable. Prioritizing the health of our hair allows us to feel strong, beautiful and empowered. Making the choice to prioritize hair health is not just a physical journey, but an emotional one that can lead to a significant increase in self-confidence. The goal is to maintain your hair in its best physical condition, thereby giving you an empowering confidence boost. “Hair often ends up being the last item on our self-care list, but it's time we changed that and considered hair as an integral part of our overall health picture,” Hughes continues. “While it’s certainly a crucial aspect of our personal style and a potent tool for self-expression, perhaps most importantly hair is a reflection of our inner health and should be given apt attention in kind.” As a baseline, it’s wise to incorporate Nutrient-Rich Foods that support hair health into your diet. Hughes advises. He also says that it is helpful to incorporate scalp massages as a part of your routine, which offer a range of health benefits that contribute to Overall Well-Being. “For one, scalp massages help improve blood circulation to the hair follicles and the scalp,” Hughes notes. “The gentle pressure and kneading motions stimulate the Blood Vessels, promoting better Nutrient and Oxygen delivery to the hair roots. Improved circulation nourishes the Hair Follicles, which can support healthy hair growth and contribute to overall scalp health. The benefits of even these small, easy changes can manifest in the form of a healthier you.” From the dawn of civilization to the present day, our hair has been an essential part of human expression, symbolizing who we are and what we represent. But, hair is also a vital part of one's health that can serve as a valuable health indicator, reflecting both internal and external factors that affect our Overall Well-Being. If you notice significant or persistent changes in your hair, it is advisable to consult a hair care professional who may be able to readily identify and resolve the problem. Or, for more serious concerns, a Healthcare Professional can provide a comprehensive evaluation and appropriate guidance. Actualized concerns aside, the reality is that everyone should continually give their “crowning glory” the due care and consideration it needs and deserves. < Previous News Next News >

  • The Season Of Gratitude And A New Vice Mayor

The Season Of Gratitude And A New Vice Mayor By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper November 28, 2024 Share As Friendsgiving celebrations and the Thanksgiving holiday takes place this week, I am reminded of the things we are thankful for. I, for one, am thankful to serve as your mayor once more for the next four years. I am thankful for our families and friends that become family. I am thankful for our robust coastal community and our beautiful woven tapestry of diversity throughout our residents. I am thankful for our incredible city staff that never stops working to maintain our city. And I am grateful for our community partners, educators that nurture our future minds and the business community that is the lifeblood of our city. Our Hepburn Center will host the Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon. This is a wonderful opportunity to gather with neighbors and enjoy a festive meal featuring all the traditional favorites. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve. Thank you to the City of Hallandale Beach Human Services Department staff and other city staff volunteers for making this possible. Late Wednesday, Hallandale Beach held an organizational meeting for the new city commission. Even though there were clear winners in our election, all results must be certified by the Broward County Supervisor of Election and accepted by the state. This process typically takes 10 days. After being accepted by the State, the results are certified and we are sworn into office. While there were some crazy events over the past month and over the course of early voting the organizational meeting was a time of celebration for us all. Commissioner Lazarow was sworn in by her dear friend. Michele was blessed to be joined by her mother Phyllis Lazarow and Stepfather. Anyone that has lived in Hallandale Beach for more than 10 years knows that Phyllis is a true pioneer of our city in her own right. She opened and ran a wonderful salon for over thirty plus years. While we celebrate our win the official swearing in is quite a solemn moment. When we take the oath of office, we are officially certified by law to serve in the capacity of Mayor and commissioners. We do not simply swear to protect and defend our city and charter but the United States Constitution and Florida Constitution. It is our duty to protect and defend all our residents. Vice Mayor Anabelle Lima-Taub was sworn in by her amazing mother Eva Taub. Anabelle shared a wonderful message about her Imma. She too is an amazing woman. She escaped Antisemitism in Russia as a young woman and settled in Israel. She married and gave birth to Annabelle. She separated from her husband to escape violence and came to the US to start a new life. She raised Anabelle as a single mother working tirelessly, opening her own business. She made sure Anabelle received a great education and more importantly ingrained in her the importance of standing up against hatred and oppression. I was sworn in by my dear husband Dr. Harry Cooper. He decided that he wanted to participate in this time, which is uniquely different as he typically prefers to be behind the scenes. It was special as my mom who has made all my swearing in had passed during the COVID-19 Pandemic. My Dad and my father by marriage had also passed away and my mom by Marriage Syliva was watching from home. I thanked my friends for attending and the many volunteers including Fraternal Order of Police President and President of the Broward County Professional FireFighters and Paramedics who all came out during early voting and on election day. Another huge thanks to Ms. Judy Stern who is not only a friend but both me and Anabelle’s campaign manager. The countless hours she spent on messaging, mail consulting and keeping us focused was priceless. Ms. Eve Paul, my publicist and ground coordinator, is another blessing that always keeps me grounded, focused and on point. Her continued magic navigating everything tech was extraordinary. The biggest thank you and cheers went out to Officer Marcia who was assigned the lion share of patrol hours for early voting. The assignment came with hours of nonsense, disrespect and lawlessness from my and Anabelle’s opponent. Her service along with other officers including us was over and above anyone would have expected. Anabelle thanked the many supporters that worked early voting for all of us. We all united with such passion and strength over the course of two weeks and on voting day. I personally have such gratitude for the many friends that I had a chance to meet and work with. The biggest thank you still goes out to Eva who I lovingly refer to as the General. Every day we set up and she would make sure everyone was in the right place at the right time. Sadly, our opponents were uncivil and created much unrest throughout the course of the election. The other amazing volunteer was Pablo, Anabelle’s husband. It was great to have him around covering our six. Not only is he a wonderful friend but an amazing police officer. She also shared a special thanks to Mayer, Lius, Anna, AJ, Howard, Kenyatta and all the many other volunteers. After the swearing in ceremony, Anabelle nominated Commissioner Lazarow as Vice Mayor and I seconded the nomination. There were no other nominations and the vote for Vice Mayor Michelle Lazarow was unanimous. We all shared during our comments a common theme. We all serve every single resident of the city. It does not matter if you are an R or D. If you live in a house, condominium or trailer. It does not matter the amount of money you have, the religion you practice nor the color of your skin. It does not matter if you voted for us or against us, we have all sworn an oath to serve and we all take it very seriously. Our residents should know that among all of us we have over 50 plus years of experience. There is no need for a learning curve. This means our City will have continuity, experience and most of all stability. Our City has come through some significant times over the past years. We were faced with fiscal insolvency for years of instability and now we can truly get right back to collaborating with an amazing team. More importantly we will retain great staff. As always, I am available anytime for your questions, concerns and ideas to make our City a better place on my Phone/Text at: (954) 632-5700. Or you can email me at: jcooper@cohb.org . • Cruising Is Back In A Big Way: Popular Cruise Trends And Destinations For 2023

Cruising Is Back In A Big Way: Popular Cruise Trends And Destinations For 2023 January 26, 2023 Share After nearly three years of challenges and uncertainty, cruise lines are gearing up for a strong year with travel demand rising and Americans eager to set sail. A new AAA survey finds 52% of U.S. adults are just as likely or more likely to consider taking a cruise vacation than they were before the pandemic. That number is up from 45% one year ago. "Cruising is back in a big way. We expect a lot more people to book cruises in 2023 as several new ships have entered the market," says Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group. "We already saw this in November which proved to be a record-breaking month for cruise bookings. For many cruise companies, Black Friday was the single largest booking day in history." Types of Cruises Moast Travelers Want to Take in 2023 Contemporary, family-friendly, and luxury cruises top the list of most popular ships among people who are likely to go on a cruise this year, according to AAA's survey. But smaller, more intimate ships are gaining popularity, like river cruises which offer personalized itineraries and port-centric experiences. Some of the top reasons keeping some people from cruising are cost and health and safety concerns. Haas says, “Cruising offers tremendous value versus other vacation options. Our Travel Agents are skilled at helping travelers identify the itinerary that fits your interests and budget.” "Increasingly, there is something for everyone in cruise vacation options. Families, couples and friends looking to reconnect are finding that cruising offers outstanding experiences and value," adds Haas. "Cruise lines have undertaken extensive measures to promote health and safety onboard, so you can expect attention to detail and cleanliness. In the case of unexpected illness, they have protocols in place to isolate passengers as they recuperate." Some of the most popular cruise destinations for 2023 are: Alaska, California, Barcelona, Spain, Hawaii, Mexico, Venice, Italy, Paris, France, Bermuda, Canada among others. 5 Mistakes People Make When Booking Cruises Forgoing a travel agent and travel insurance. Travel agents are experts who can help you select the cruise line, ship, and itinerary that best fit your lifestyle, budget, and interests. They have access to the same pricing as booking through a cruise line directly and can provide additional savings, onboard credit, complimentary gratuities, and other amenities you won't get from booking on your own. Travel insurance gives you peace of mind for many unexpected situations. Without it, you could be on the hook for 100% of your trip if you must cancel unexpectedly. Insuring your trip allows you to breathe a little easier, knowing your travel investment is protected. Delaying booking in hopes of getting a deal. Think you'll get a better deal at the last minute? Think again! Cruises can be booked as far as two years in advance. Waiting too long can result in the cruise or stateroom category you want being sold out. With lower stateroom inventory as the sailing date approaches, many cruise lines increase prices as the sailing date gets closer. So, it’s best to book early to get the specific cruise and stateroom you want. Waiting to book shore excursions or onboard dining and shows. Putting off booking a shore excursion is risky because the most popular tours may be sold out by the time you're on board. The same goes for certain restaurants or shows. Often, cruise lines will offer lower prices for shore excursions booked in advance. That's another way travel agents can help. They can guide you through the pre-cruise process and assist with those types of reservations. Flying in on the day of sailing. Weather delays or mechanical issues can turn your dream vacation into a nightmare if you are flying in on the day you are sailing. The stress of possibly missing your cruise is not the way to start a relaxing trip. AAA recommends flying in a day early and enjoying an evening at your port of embarkation before setting sail. Picking a cruise based solely on price. There are cruise lines for all types of budgets. Travel agents can be invaluable in this area because they can match your interests with your budget while laying out exactly what experiences and service you can expect at different price points. 5 Biggest Myths about Cruising I will be bored. A cruise can be as active or as relaxing as you want it to be. From basketball and pickleball to rock climbing walls and surfing simulators, large ships have amenities galore. At night, end your day with Broadway-style shows, solo acts, movies, casinos, or nightclubs. Expedition cruises are all about the destination and focus on the great outdoors. For travelers looking to take in the sights and sounds of a breathtaking city, European river cruises, for example, offer activities and excursions that immerse passengers in the local culture. I will get seasick. Cruise ships have stabilizers to minimize the ship's motion as much as possible. If you're taking a river cruise, you're less likely to get motion sick due to minimal waves. But travelers who are extra sensitive can take medications like Dramamine, use acupressure bracelets, or wear seasickness patches behind the ear. I will have to wear formal clothes. The days of wearing a tuxedo or cocktail dress in the evening are over unless you want to go all out! Most cruise lines have adopted a resort casual dress code. Depending on your mood, you can opt for a more relaxed look or put on something special for a romantic night out. The only activities on a cruise are eating and drinking. It's no secret that cruises are known for a wide range of cuisine, room service, all-day pizza bars, and burgers by the pool. But there are plenty of other things to do, like hanging out at the pool, going on offshore excursions, watching live entertainment, taking a fitness class, or treating yourself to a spa service. Cruise ships are only for older crowds. Today's cruises are popular with people of all ages and offer a fantastic vacation for families, groups of friends, and honeymooners. Kids have their own dedicated space and activities to keep them entertained, while young adults can take advantage of endless sports and activities onboard. Adults can enjoy a wine tasting or spa treatment, and all ships offer quiet corners for reading, relaxing, and even napping. Survey Methodology The survey was conducted December 2-4, 2022 using a probability-based panel designed to be representative of the U.S. household population overall. The panel provides sample coverage of approximately 97% of the U.S. household population. Most surveys were completed online. Consumers without internet access were surveyed over the phone. A total of 1,070 interviews were completed among U.S. adults 18 years of age or older. The margin of error for the study overall is 4% at the 95% confidence level. < Previous News Next News >

  • Make Family Memories This Summer: The Best Part Of A Road Trip Is That Quality Time Is Built Into It

Make Family Memories This Summer: The Best Part Of A Road Trip Is That Quality Time Is Built Into It May 31, 2023 Share There's a reason summer is a popular time to vacation. With the kids out of school, and the weather warming up, take advantage of the sunshine and your family's more flexible schedule to share experiences and strengthen your family bonds. Yes, I know, we live in a vacation destination, but what if you want something different. This year will be an especially popular year for vacations. Do you crave an escape from your daily routine - 64% of people say they do - if even for a few days? In a recent study conducted by Mintel, in partnership with Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, nearly 62% of parents intend to take more family vacations in 2023 than they did in 2022, and 77% said their goal was to make memories and 74% to have fun. Are you ready to start planning your vacation? Check out these three family vacation ideas that are perfect for having fun and making memories together this summer. 1. Explore A New City Exploring a new city together can be a fun and exciting adventure for the whole family! Choose a destination and make a list of must-see spots and activities so you can plan accordingly. Your list should include restaurants for the foodies in your family, amusement parks and attractions for the thrill seekers, shops for the fashionistas and a spa visit for those who want to relax. Don't overload your itinerary! Remember, your family should come back from vacation feeling refreshed. Build in downtime in between events and outings, too. Quiet, relaxing moments together allow everyone to recharge for the next activity and allow you to reflect on the memories you're making. 2. Take A Road Trip A family road trip is the quintessential American vacation experience and for good reason. According to the Mintel study, 50% of parents prefer to drive and 72% of parents say it's important to pick a destination they can drive to. No two road trips are alike. Even if you're taking the same route as others, when and where you decide to stop is completely up to your family, making each road trip a unique experience. When planning a road trip, you can pick one or several destinations and plan for pit stops along the way. Also, the flexibility of a road trip means you can stop and explore a town or attraction on your route that piques your interest with minimal disruption to your planned itinerary. The best part of a family road trip is that quality time is built into it. Spending time together in the car gives you plenty of opportunities to connect and talk about what you're most excited to see and experience. 3. Stay At A Resort A family vacation at a resort is a great way to have fun while taking the stress out of trip planning. Instead of going out to several locations in one city, you can adventure, shop, eat and relax all in one place. A destination like Kalahari Resorts & Conventions has something for everyone, all under one roof! Home to America's largest indoor water parks, kids of all ages will make memories and are sure to have fun at both the indoor and outdoor waterslides, pools and lazy rivers. Stop by the family entertainment center and play some games as a family or try an escape room. The resort's signature dining options have dishes and drinks to delight everyone's palate. There's also a full-service spa experience for prime pampering in between activities. Don't forget to stop at the unique retail shops to pick up souvenirs and gifts to commemorate your trip. You can choose from one of four conveniently located resorts Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; Sandusky, Ohio; Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania and Round Rock, Texas, pick a route and enjoy a road trip to your resort vacation. And no need to worry about the weather! Mintel found that 81% of parents say it is important to pick a location they can enjoy that is not dependent on the weather. That's not a problem because it's always sunny and 84 degrees inside Kalahari, so you can enjoy a true summer vacation no matter what it's doing outside. To learn more, visit: www.KalahariResorts.com Don't let this summer slip by getting lost in your day-to-day routine. Let these three ideas inspire your family vacation so you can start planning your trip to make memories and have fun together this summer. < Previous News Next News >
