Hollywood Has A Lot Happening: Food Waste Prevention, Beach Clean-Up & Lifeguard Testing

This week is Food Waste Prevention Week and the City of Hollywood is encouraging everyone to participate in a number of activities that raise awareness and inspire everyone to reduce food waste at home, work and in our communities. Activities include a social media bingo game for a chance to win great prizes, K-12 student engagement contests, invention marathons, presentations with special guests including celebrated local chefs, and the Save the Food Fest event at Snyder Park in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, April 9th.

The City of Hollywood has partnered with various agencies and stakeholders throughout Broward County in a collaborative effort and shared commitment to reduce food loss and waste. REGISTER YOUR ATTENDANCE for "Save the Food Fest '22" on Saturday, April 9th at Snyder Park, 3299 South-west 4th Avenue in Fort Lauder-dale. The festival is taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park. Planned activities include: Plant & Seed Giveaway, Guided Food Forest & Butterfly Garden Nature Tours, Live Chef Demonstration, Free Hands-on Activities & Workshops, Bring your Food Scraps for Compost Drop-Off, Games, Music, and Food Fun.

Hollywood Beach Sweep Clean-Up is Back!
This Saturday, April 9 – 7 to 11 a.m.

Help keep Hollywood Beach beautiful by volunteering for the Hollywood Beach Sweep Clean-Up on Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. at Charnow Park, 300 Conne-cticut Street and the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. For more information visit: http://www.hollywoodfl.org/Calendar.aspx?EID=8687

Guard Hollywood Beach
Hollywood Beach Safety continues to search for qualified candidates to join the lifeguard team. Interested applicants are invited to test their abilities on Wednesday, April 13th at 9:30 a.m. Gather at the Lifeguard First Aid Station at Madison Street and come prepared to run 500 meters and swim 500 meters in under 11 minutes. Those 18 years of age or older with a strong athletic background are encouraged to participate.

This run/swim test will be given at the Lifeguard First Aid Station on Hollywood Beach at Madison Street. Parking is available behind 1201 S. Ocean Drive in a City of Hollywood designated parking lot. You will also be required to pass a background check and drug screen. For information please call (954) 921-3423.
