  • How to Say Buh-Bye to 'Ozempic Face'

How to Say Buh-Bye to 'Ozempic Face' By BPT August 23, 2024 Share Are you one of the many Americans who has benefited from losing weight quickly due to GLP-1 medications? If so, you're probably feeling grateful for the improved health and appearance these groundbreaking medications have provided - but less so for the loose, sagging skin that may be left behind. You're not alone - the term "Ozempic face" has been trending for a reason, as many people who are taking these medications are also seeing this less-than-ideal side effect along with their desired weight loss. Why does your skin have so much trouble bouncing back? Starting as early as your 20s, the collagen within the middle layer of your skin begins to diminish, resulting in your skin becoming less and less elastic as you get older. "When you experience rapid weight loss, it can be hard for your skin to bounce back, resulting in the loose or sagging skin look that is so disappointing for many of my patients," said Board-Certified Dermatologist Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi, Capital Laser & Skin Care. "This kind of problem can also be seen in the upper arms, especially for women who have a genetic predisposition to gain weight there." A new, non-invasive solution If all of this sounds familiar to you, you'll be glad to know there is a new, award-winning, in-office and non-invasive ultrasound treatment designed specifically to address this problem. The treatment is called Sofwave™, and it stimulates the skin's collagen, Elastin and Hyaluronic Acid using SUPERB™ Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam Technology to improve fine lines and wrinkles, lift the eyebrows, under the chin and neck area. Sofwave™ has been FDA-cleared to: • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles • Lift the eyebrow • Lift lax skin under the chin and along the jawline • Lift neck tissue • Improve skin laxity on the upper arms • Reduce the appearance of cellulite • Improve acne scars How does it work? The SUPERB™ Technology heats the dermis at the right temperature, triggering the healing response that increases both Collagen and Elastin in the skin, which is necessary to maintain volume. Best yet, this cutting-edge technology works on any skin type or skin tone, for all ages. After just one 45-minute in-office treatment, patients show significant improvement in 12 weeks. The procedure is safe and comfortable, requiring only topical anesthetic to numb the skin. "Some people may want to schedule an additional treatment to see even better results," said Tanzi. "Your dermatologist may recommend one treatment every 18-24 months to help you maintain your youthful appearance." "Sofwave is a terrific option for anyone, at any age, who wants to build-up collagen and elastin in the skin and improve their skin health and firmness," said Atlanta Plastic Surgeon Dr. Gabriele Miotto. "It can help patients with issues that have become so common with rapid weight loss due to GLP-1 medications, or patients who want to be proactive in boosting or improving their skin health." Additional treatments to tone your abs, thighs and buttocks If you're looking to improve other areas of your body as well, you may want to ask your dermatologist about Pure Impact™, an Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) device that uses electric pulses transmitted by electrodes to elicit muscle contraction and stimulate nerve fibers by means of electrical pulses transmitted by electrodes. Pure Impact™ is FDA-cleared to improve abdominal tone, strengthen abdominal muscles, develop a firmer abdomen, strengthen, tone and firm buttocks and thighs. • “Broadway With Heart” A New Musical Celebration

“Broadway With Heart” A New Musical Celebration March 18, 2022 Share BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! After their last sold-out show, beloved husband and wife, song and dance team Michael Kessler & Melinda Jackson return to the beautiful Aventura Arts & Cultural Center with “Broadway With Heart,” a funny, optimistic and poignant love story. Did you ever dream of reliving your favorite moments from every Broadway show you’ve ever seen? Did you ever imagine holding your beloved in your arms & swirling around the stage, or staring into your darling’s eyes while singing passionate love songs by Broadway’s legendary composers? Well, that’s what happens in “Broadway With Heart” at South Florida’s unique gem, the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center on Saturday, March 26th, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. In this new musical celebration of the best of Broadway, M&M sing and dance their way through a history of classic numbers from hit Broadway shows like KISS ME KATE, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, CHICAGO, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, HAIR and many more, while revealing personal, backstage stories of their work and experiences with some of the giants of musical theater like famed directors: Bob Fosse and Joe Layton. Actor, Writer And Lyricist: Jim Rado. Native New Yorkers, Jackson and Kessler, affectionately known as M&M, share more than 30 years of producing, directing, writing, composing, choreographing and performing internationally from ballet to Broadway, Radio City Music Hall, the Las Vegas Strip, to theaters and opera houses worldwide. In addition to decades of international tours of their original shows, the couple have performed in Tommy Tune’s Broadway show, “Grand Hotel,’ choreographed the Winter Olympics, the U.S. Pro Gymnastics tour, directed and choreographed the 30th Anniversary tour of the hit rock musical “Hair” and many more. Their career is a show business fairy tale that began in a professional ballet class in New York City. Melinda remembers, “Michael showed up in ballet class in boxing trunks, wristbands and basketball socks, walking on his hands with a bevy of females around him. We were so enchanted with one another, that Maggie Black, our teacher, would separate us at the ballet barre. Once we began working together, singing, dancing and acting, we realized what a perfect fit we were and decided that was what we wanted to do exclusively.” Michael adds, “We just clicked from the first moment we started to dance together. Everything flowed. The hardest part of choreographing for Melinda was that everything she did looked so beautiful, it was hard to choose what to keep in and what to discard. It’s a happy problem I’ve gotten used to over time. As legendary director Joe Layton told us at Radio City Music Hall, “This girl! Even when it’s wrong it’s right!” In 35 years of highs and lows, successes and failures, injuries, triumphs and heartaches, we’ve spent 5 nights apart and eaten about 10 meals apart,” says Kessler. “It may not be for everyone, but we love being together pretty much all the time. We’ve traveled the world together doing what we love. It’s the most fun we can have, so let’s have it!” says Jackson. Melinda is proud to be the great-granddaughter of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. Bully! Michael is proud to be the great-grandson of Russian Cantor Yacov Sanzofsky. Shalom! Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit M&M’s nonprofit M&M American Dance Theatre Works dedicated to promoting artistic collaboration, educational, cultural enrichment through exposure, mentorship and involvement in musical dance theater. According to the event announcement, the program will examine “a powerful lesson of the Iranian Revolution and what it teaches us about standing firmly in our Jewish identity — especially when the ground shifts beneath us.” Resnick brings both personal experience and a compelling perspective to the conversation. After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, her family was forced to flee Iran and rebuild their lives in the United States. Her story and message underscore themes of Jewish unity, identity, and shared peoplehood. Haleh Rabizadeh Resnick Bio: Haleh was born in the United States to Iranian parents. Her family moved back to Iran before the Revolution…after which, as a Jewish family, they were forced to flee back to the U.S. when she was just in third grade. The experience of growing up as very much an outsider in what she considers an incredible country has helped to give her a remarkably unique perspective that applies to both children and adults when it comes to personal relationships. Haleh graduated Rutgers Law School with high honors and after working in the world of finance in internationally recognized law firms, Haleh temporarily retired from law to be home to raise her five children. In that time, she authored the books Little Patient Big Doctor and Navigating OIT both supporting parents with children’s health challenges by encouraging out of the box thinking and a holistic approach to health. She has spoken nationally on children’s health topics to parent groups and medical conferences and appeared in both local and national media outlets including CNN. Recently Haleh released the Think Again Series, encouraging children and partnering with parents to teach understanding of others through innovation and imagination. As a life-long educator and counselor, this series is one that is designed to engage people of all ages. Haleh has also always been fully involved in non-profit organizations assisting in her local Jewish community and currently serves as a Business and Community Development Director in her town. Haleh’s overall background and experiences have given her the knowledge and familiarity to speak to others on a variety of topics…offering perspectives that aren’t often considered by many, and encouraging people to see things differently and for the better. Haleh has been married for over 25 years, and lives in New Jersey with her husband and family. Her work has garnered attention from national media, as she inspires those around her to Think Again in all that we do. Temple Beth El West Palm Beach will present a timely Yom HaShoah program featuring Guest Speaker Haleh Rabizadeh Resnick. Previous Next

  • Promises Made Promises Kept: The State of Hallandale Beach - Part IV

Promises Made Promises Kept: The State of Hallandale Beach - Part IV By Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper June 6, 2024 Share Greetings readers. As I shared over the past weeks State of the City article, this is part four with the closing for next week. I do want to share that our City has been tackling many concerns and issues that you have brought to us over the year. We are currently working on this year's budget and this is a bit of a spoiler alert. We will be reducing the Tax Rate as planned and promised. I encourage everyone to follow our meeting. The final meeting before break will be on June 26th. We will be setting the tentative millage at that time. It has been awhile since we have held a community meeting for The eastside of our community. I will be hosting a Town Hall meeting on June 24th at the Cultural Center at 6:30 p.m. to go over flooding intivitives, project updates and other initives that are underway in our city. I along with staff will be available to answer all your questions and concerns. I hope you join in. Contiuned SOTC (In Speech Form) We heard and responded to complaints that our roads need resurfacing. As residents we also experience and are frustrated by the conditons. Last year we added a $1.5 Million Dollar infusion to the plan. There is one caveat to this project, we will not redo a road if it is slated for underground work. We are committed to not wasting taxpayer dollars. We have a schedule for this multi year project of all roads on our website. Promises made, Promises kept. Beach Renourishment in partnership with Broward County was also completed. We have returned to our gorgeous shore and are now fixing South Beach Park with new trees and shade systems. Promises made, promises kept. Last year, I shared another unplanned threat. The failure of many of our water meters. This was due to a manufacturing issue. Dr. Earle brought together a cross-departmental team to tackle this vital project. Obvivouly meters and their accuracy are vital for our customers to have faith and trust that they are getting what they are paying for. This project is facing challenges that include supply chain and staffing issues for not only installation of meters but the entire back office. Tomorrow as we hold our first budget workshop, Dr. Earle will be presenting a new approach to ensure we get the project completed. Like I said! We are really busy! But we are working on the plan! So Where are we going? The plan was so on point last year it was the first year we had a robust debate on changing course. 2023 Fiscal stability! Our Budget was balanced without the use of any reserves, Our reserves are well over $30,000. We budgeted over $80,000 Million Dollars to address Aging Infrastructure. Our staffing levels have increased even with the great resignation. This did not come without costs. We performed a classification and compensation study to become competitive with the marketplace. Finding employees for various departments is still a huge concern. Promises Made Promises Kept. WE have promised and continue to work for you and our number 1 priority remains your safety! Chief Michel has continued to fill positions with the hopes of having them all filled. Just last week two more officers were sworn in. Due to retirees, employees transferring and the gap between new hires there will be vacancies, but the Department is performing at a level well above any expectations. In addition, he has been tapping into our retired officers who can work part time. Their institutional knowledge is priceless. I for one pushed for a rehire policy years ago and I am incredibly happy we are not losing officers that know our City and residents and can help train new officers. Next week will be Part 5 of my SOTC. As always feel free to contact me anytime with your questions and concerns at email: jcooper@cohb.org . Or at: joycooper@aol.com . I always can be reached by phone or text at: (954) 632-5700. Working for you! Always Have! Always will! < Previous News Next News >

  • How To Enjoy Fresh Maine Lobster This Season

How To Enjoy Fresh Maine Lobster This Season By Family Features July 20, 2023 Share As people look to change what's on their plates, it can be tough to know where to begin. From Social Media-inspired Recipes to trendy menu offerings, there are many options. That's why restaurant owners Katie and Thom Werner are recommending a staple that's sustainable, fresh and versatile: Lobster. The Werners own the popular Island Lobster Co. Restaurant in Peaks Island, Maine where Thom works as a commercial fisherman and supplies most of the Lobster served. The Werner family is well versed in the iconic Maine Lobster fishery, coming from a long line of generational fishing families, with Thom having fished since he was 6 years old. They know Lobster can be intimidating for home cooks, but as people familiar with the product, they emphasize Lobster is easy to prepare, delicious and supports communities up and down the coast. "Lobsters are always sustainably harvested and handled with care by the fishery," Katie said. "It's so important to know where your food comes from and with local Lobster, it's something you can feel great about enjoying that also directly benefits so many families like ours." Lobsters are harvested year-round in Maine and New Hampshire; however, the majority are caught between late June and late December, when the Lobsters are the most active. For those looking to enjoy a simple and classic version of Lobster, the Werners recommend a tried and true method. "Steamed with some melted butter is always perfect," Thom said. "You can't beat the sweet, succulent flavors of Fresh Lobster with that punch of Salty Butter." For those looking for a fresh twist, Katie suggests trying her favorite recipe at Island Lobster Co.: The BLT Lobster Roll. "It's a savory and sweet combination of Crispy Bacon, Juicy Tomatoes and Tender Lobster Meat, all served on a Buttery Roll," she said. "It's a great way to enjoy sustainable trap-to-table fare." No matter what Recipe people go with, the Werner family hopes everyone can partake in enjoying a staple of their heritage. "To me, Maine Lobster is a taste of home," Thom said. "I've always enjoyed it with friends and family. Now I get to share that legacy with my own kids and our community at the restaurant. I feel incredibly lucky and I hope everyone - whether you're a Mainer or on the opposite side of the country - can enjoy it as a celebration of such an iconic industry." BLT Lobster Roll Recipe courtesy of the Werner family of Island Lobster Co. on behalf of the Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative Yield: 1 Roll • 3 Slices of Bacon • 1/4 Pound of Fresh Lobster Meat or Meat from 1-Pound Lobster • 1 Tablespoon of Butter • 1 Brioche Bun, halved • 1 Tablespoon of Mayonnaise • 3 Tomato Slices • 1 Large Leaf of Romaine Lettuce or Butter Lettuce Preheat the oven to 400 F. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the Bacon Slices on top. Cook them for 10-15 minutes, or until desired crispiness. Prepare a large pot with 2 inches of Salted Water and bring it to a rolling boil. Add the Lobster and steam it for 12 minutes. Halfway through, lift the lid carefully and shift the Lobster to cook it evenly. Break down the Lobster and remove the meat from the shell, yielding about 4 Ounces of cooked meat. Chop the meat into bite-size pieces. In a large skillet or griddle over Medium Heat, warm the Butter to coat the pan. Place both pieces of the Bun cut sides down on a pan and cook them for about 30 seconds until they are golden. Remove the Buns from the pan and set them aside. In a bowl, toss the Chopped Lobster Meat with the Mayonnaise and set it aside. Assemble the Cooked Bacon, the Tomato, the Lettuce and the Lobster mix on the toasted Bun.
