From Presidents to Kings: This November Is Full of Entertainment at The Broward Center

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts lights up all its stages this November with the return of the Broadway blockbuster HAMILTON; the acclaimed choreographer Ronald K. Brown and his Evidence company as well as the Men Who Dance troupe; crowd pleasing musicians Bonnie Raitt, Straight No Chaser, and Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes; intimite Abdo New River Room concerts with Trent Harmon, Dan Rodriguez and David Cook; hilarious comic Tom Papa; the 73rd annual winter sports film from Warren Miller; and family theater with Disney Junior Live On Tour: Costume Palooza! and other family adventures.
JM Family Enterprises presents the Smart Stage Matinee Series performance of Commanding Space in the Amaturo Theater on Thursday, November 10 at 10 a.m. In the midst of the civil rights movement, young Annie Easley knows she can be something more. In this true story of dreams, hardships and self-determination, Annie becomes one of the first African American human computers at NASA. Initially working on airplanes, she soon realizes her destiny is to be on the team of mathematicians that launch the Centaur Rocket into the Space Race. Commanding Space is an important story about a persistent and intelligent woman whose desire to succeed in science and technology proved stronger than the prejudice that would have denied her. Recommended for grades 5-8, this performance offers rich learning connections to STEM curriculum as well as rocket science, aviation, civil rights, voting rights and more. The annual celebration that crosses generations continues as Peter Glenn Ski & Sports sponsors Warren Miller’s Daybreaker, Warren Miller’s 73rd annual ski and snowboard film, in the Amaturo Theater on Friday, November 11 at 8:30 p.m. The film follows one of Europe’s most legendary mountain guides who is rewriting the rules of adaptive backcountry riding, and trys to keep up with some of the most exciting young skiers and snowboarders on the planet. From British Columbia's Monashee mountains to the throne of Greece's Olympus mountains, Alaska and beyond, audiences will join Crazy Karl Fostvedt, Michelle Parker, Katie Burrell, Hana Beaman, Daron Rahlves, Ryland Bell, Cam Fitzpatrick, Connery Lundin and more out on the hill. Tickets are $13.
Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes come to the Au-Rene Theater on Saturday, November 12 at 8 p.m. The Gipsy Kings captured the world's imagination with their self-titled debut album 25 years ago that was certified gold and platinum around the globe and introduced millions of listeners to a unique, irresistible blend of traditional flamenco styles with Western pop and Latin rhythms. Since then, the band has toured virtually non-stop, to the farthest-flung corners of the planet, and sold almost twenty million albums, all while retaining the same line-up of virtuoso musicians. Trent Harmon performs an intimate concert in the Abdo New River Room on Saturday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. An American singer and TV personality who gained fame for winning the 15th season of American Idol, Harmon dropped his first album entitled You Got 'Em All on May 18, 2018, on Big Machine Label Group. The album spawned hit singles "There's a Girl" and "You Got 'Em All." He continues to flourish amidst the songwriter community of Nashville and is regularly releasing new music. Tickets are $25.
Following the release of his new full length album, Troubadour Family Man, Dan Rodriguez comes to the Abdo New River Room on Sunday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. He has toured or shared the stage with The Civil Wars, NeedToBreathe, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, Any Grammar and Will Hoge, among others. His success in the commercial world has been astronomical with songs placed in ads from his local Minnesota Tourism campaigns, to international ads and a Budweiser Super Bowl commercial. Rodriguez is a whiskey drinking, fishing & hunting loving, motorcycle riding, quality food eating, hippie sympathizing, people loving, husband and father who lives in Minnesota and shares a life with his wife and two sons, Oak and Alder. Named by Rolling Stone to its list of the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” and “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” Bonnie Raitt brings her “Just Like That…Tour 2022” to the Au-Rene Theater on Wednesday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. Famous for her heartfelt and bluesy mega-hits including "I Can't Make You Love Me" and "Something To Talk About," and her authenticity, integrity and grit, this 10-time GRAMMY® Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will perform the classic songs that defined her legendary career as well as new music from her 20th studio album, Dig In Deep. She is joined by special guest and GRAMMY-winner Marc Cohn best known hits "Walking in Memphis," "Silver Thunderbird" and "True Companion." Straight No Chaser “The 25th Anniversary Celebration” in the Au-Rene Theater on Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. delivers the captivating sound of nine unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music with a sense of humor. This "male a cappella group" has emerged as a phenomenon with a massive fanbase and a long list of accomplishments including two RIAA Gold Certified albums, two million albums sold, more than 1.5 million concert tickets sold and more than one billion streams on Pandora. His new work is an impressive collection of tunes teeming with a restless creative spirit yet anchored by an emotional depth that is compelling and showcases the power and range in Cook's voice as well as his insightful songwriting. Ronald K. Brown: Evidence, A Dance Company brings the award-winning choreographers work to the Amaturo Theater on Thursday, November 17 and Friday, November 18 at 8 p.m. This electrifying program includes three works that exemplify Brown's contemporary African style including his newest work, Mercy: Come Ye, a celebration of artist activist Nina Simone, and a newly conceived, 20th-anniversary presentation of Brown's soulful masterpiece Grace, originally created for THE Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. The Los Angeles Times praised the troupe for a "sophisticated amalgam of Afrocentric movement and modern dance" that often makes "spirituality …something vibrant and transformative." The all-new Disney Junior Live On Tour: Costume Palooza! comes to the Au-Rene Theater on Saturday, November 19 at noon and 4 p.m. Beloved Disney Junior characters and favorite Marvel Super Heroes are together live on stage for a jam-packed, concert style show with singing, dancing, acrobatics and more. With favorite songs from the hit Disney Junior series, as well as new original music, Mickey, Minnie and their pals are getting ready to throw a huge costume party but mysterious green rain, wind and smoke keep interrupting the fun. The Broward Center’s Arts Access Program presents Men Who Dance in the Amaturo Theater on Saturday, November 26 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 27 at 3 p.m. Men Who Dance returns to the stage with an expanded cast and repertoire of dance companies and invited artists in an explosion of artistic expression meant to explore, deconstruct and re-define some of the concepts and notions of masculinity. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the Peformance Project present the The Sound of Music, the Youth Fall Musical, in the Amaturo Theater Tuesday, November 29 at 6 and 8 p.m. and Wednesday, November 30 at 8 p.m. Performed by talented students of the Youth Fall Musical class, this enduring, popular musical tells the unforgettable tale of the seven von Trapp children, their widowed naval captain and a spirited governess who become a family and rally togehter to flee the Nazis.
