- Babette In Coral Gables - A Culinary Couple’s Heartfelt Love Letter To Hospitality | sun-times
Babette In Coral Gables - A Culinary Couple’s Heartfelt Love Letter To Hospitality South Florida Sun Times Nov 5, 2025 Quietly Opening Earlier This Year, Babette Has Quickly Become A Beloved Culinary Gem For Those In The Know In Coral Gables, A City That, Like The Restaurant Itself, Is As Much A Tribute To Legacy As It Is To The Present Moment. Figuratively Speaking, Babette Is Rooted In Memory: The Culmination Of The Decades Chef And Co-Owner Daniel “Dani” Chávez-Bello Has Spent Time In Some Of The World’s Most Celebrated Kitchens. At its Heart, The Restaurant Is Both A Celebration Of A Life In Hospitality And A Love Letter To His Wife And Business Partner, Alexandra Oliveros Febres-Cordero. “Babette is a place that could not be, would not exist, if it weren’t for Alex and the journey we’ve made together,” says Chef Dani. “The very soul of the place is built on what we share - the life, the love, the family we’ve created. We opened Babette to set a table where others can feel that same sense of joy, comfort, and amor de la vida.” Babette presents a refined yet welcoming menu, where Mediterranean soul meets the precision of French technique, the vibrancy of Spanish cuisine, and unexpected Japanese influence. Every dish is rooted in ingredient purity and thoughtful simplicity, allowing flavors to shine without distraction. Dishes that have become signature must-tries include a sumptuous Crab Truffle Flan, a complex dish rich in flavor, bedrocked by chawanmushi, a Japanese steamed egg custard, that Dani fell in love with during his time overseas. Other notable selections include a visually striking and delicious warm Summer Vegetable Mosaic, an artful composition of organic carrots, radishes, snow peas, parsnip and carrot purée, pickled cauliflower, and baby zucchini; and Beet Tartare, a vegetarian spin on the carnivorous classic anchored by dashi and dressed with sherry and rosé vinegar. Equally compelling Entrees include housemade Cavatelli with tender lamb ragout, brightened with mint and paprika; a crisp Berkshire Pork Cutlet paired with rosemary apple purée, green asparagus, and earthy porcini; and the Magret de Canard – silky slices of duck served with kabocha squash, roasted endive heart, and a luscious zucchini-spinach purée. Among the current dessert offerings are a simple yet elegant Apple Mille-Feuille and Berries Pavlova. A full bar is available as well as an impressive wine list, curated with care by Dani himself, offering bottle selections and offerings by the glass for erudite oenophiles and budding enthusiasts alike. The decor is a seamless blend of timeless European elegance and modern chic, evoking a warm, inviting, and often candlelit/romantic atmosphere. Every detail from the vintage-inspired furnishings to the soft, ambient lighting evokes the charm of a cozy café on a quiet European street, while still embracing Miami’s joie de vivre. The intimate space accommodates 30 guests indoors, while a charming patio with seating for 20 offers a perfect outdoor dining experience under the Miami sky. Meanwhile, a secret stirs upstairs. Coming November 2025, The Romeo Room, an intimate escape draped in velvet and whimsy, where Victorian tea room elegance meets the allure of a modern speakeasy. Guests will be able to slip away into this intimate hideaway to enjoy thoughtfully crafted cocktails and a menu of curated bites, all served in a space designed to feel like a world apart. The backstory: Chef Dani’s journey to Babette began in Venezuela, learning to cook with his mother and making sandwiches with his father; these two experiences kick-started his passion for cooking and his lifelong love affair with Nutella. As a young man, seeking a posh professional life, he joined law school but soon discovered himself gravitating toward F&B when he decided, rather spontaneously, to open a café. His moneymaking endeavor soon became his raison d'être, and though he completed and graduated from law school, his true passion ultimately led him to pursue a life in the kitchen. In Barcelona, he won a national culinary competition and earned a scholarship to culinary school, training in world-renowned kitchens, including the genre-defying, trend-setting El Bulli, still considered to this day one of the most impactful restaurants in the history of modern gastronomy, widely considered the most influential restaurant of the modern era. At Can Ravell, he cooked for the King of Spain and helped Lluçanès earn a Michelin star, but it was joining legendary Chef/Restaurateur David Bouley that truly helped him blaze a path forward, working with the chef to open restaurants all over the world. In fact, Dani credits his time in Okinawa as a pivotal turning point in his life and career; it was there that he became acquainted with Blue Zones, a discovery that directly impacted how he approached cooking. In 2020, after a chance meeting as adults, he reconnected with Alexandra, the little sister of one of Dani’s school friends. And what began as a rekindled friendship soon blossomed into a love affair and a business partnership, which brought them to Miami, where Babette was born in 2025. A great deal of Babette’s allure is the product of Alexandra’s keen eye; a product designer by profession, with extensive experience in interior design and corporate image development, her undeniable sense of style is integral to the concept and complements Dani’s culinary prowess. In addition to leading Babette, Dani is also the Chief Culinary Officer at Epicured, where he leads menu development in collaboration with Epicured’s Partners in Health, furthering their mission to heal through food. This role reflects his passion for health-conscious, purposeful cuisine. Babette is located at 301 Alcazar Avenue, Coral Gables, Florida 33134. Hours of operation are Tuesday - Saturday, Lunch is from 12:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., Dinner is from 6:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. For more information and to make a reservation, visit: https://babettemiami.com . - Judaism: The Soundtrack - What Can Speak But Has No Words
Judaism: The Soundtrack - What Can Speak But Has No Words By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil February 23, 2023 Share Give up? The answer is music. Music can speak in ways that words alone do not. Just think of the first concert you ever went to. Or that angsty band you discovered in tenth grade that blew your mind and changed your life . . . or at least it gave you a soundtrack that, when you hear it today, brings you back to those exact experiences. This is true even of music with lyrics: a song will take you to places an essay seldom could. This winter South Florida will be treated to JUDAISM: THE SOUNDTRACK, a musical experience exploring the “nigun,” or Chasidic melody, beyond its soulful sound. As Rabbi Shneur Zalman, founder of Chabad Chasidic philosophy, taught: “Music is the pen of the soul.” Participants will listen to the story of their soul in its own words, to the feelings—of love or longing, of devotion or despair—that express the complicated relationship between a spiritual soul and a material world. The ninety minutes of pure delight, featuring: Rousing music Inspiring, visual accompaniment, Meditative commentary, High-caliber production and a Pre-event L'Chaim & Wine Tasting. What kind of learner are you? Visual? Auditory? Or do you prefer to read and write? Did you know that one of the most profound methods of learning is to experience? Participants at JUDAISM: THE SOUNDTRACK will discover fascinating and fundamental Jewish concepts by embarking on a journey through the world of Jewish song. It will not be a typical informational class. It is experiential, and that is what will make it so unique and unforgettable, transforming your life for the better. Through rousing melodies, captivating videos and visuals, and practical Jewish concepts, this event will be sure to inspire you and those you care about, creating lasting memories with them. This will be a wonderful opportunity to connect to friends and family through an enjoyable and meaningful evening of song, storytelling, and meditation. Although no musical talent required, it’s suggested to come with an open mind, an open heart, and ready to have a great time. Chasidic music is the beat behind the wisdom and inspiration of Chasidic thought. Each piece that we will explore together is packed with nuance, depth, and history that will inform your mind and speak to your heart. It will be an evening of immersive musical experience, featuring Jewish Chasidic melodies, fascinating narratives, and motivational messages brought to Miami by the Michale Ann Russle Jewish Community Center, Chabad Chayil and the acclaimed Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI). Judaism: The Soundtrack will be presented at the Alan & Diane Lieberman Theater in the MAR-JCC in North Miami Beach on Monday, Feb 27, 7:30pm with an option to say l'chaim before the program on some spectacular wines! Participants will discover the enthralling world of Chasidic melody and the deep spiritual meaning behind its tunes. Inspiring visuals, captivating stories, and rousing song will work in harmony with Chasidic wisdom to create a spectacular production that will touch the heartstrings and elevate the spirit. These Chasidic melodies are like no other. They tell a soul-stirring story about life’s purpose and what truly matters in this world. There is so much that can be learned from these moving tunes and I look forward to sharing these transformative teachings with residents of South Florida. Like all JLI programs, this event is designed to appeal to people at all levels of knowledge, including those without any prior experience or background in Jewish learning. All JLI programs are open to the public, and attendees need not be affiliated with a particular synagogue, temple, or other house of worship. - Artist Louiveste La Croix Opens Haitian Heritage Month With “Lakou" | sun-times
Artist Louiveste La Croix Opens Haitian Heritage Month With “Lakou" South Florida Sun Times Apr 30, 2026 This Haitian Heritage Month (May), The Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department Invites The Community To Experience A Vibrant Celebration Of Haitian Culture, Art, And Movement, Led By The Powerful Exhibition Lakou La Croix At The Ali Cultural Arts Center. Anchoring A Month-Long Series Of Events, This Exhibition Sets The Tone For Reflection, Connection, And Celebration Across Pompano Beach. Running from Friday, May 8th, 2026 through Saturday, June 13th, 2026, Lakou La Croix is a deeply personal solo exhibition by artist Louiveste La Croix. Through a compelling body of mixed media work, La Croix explores themes of childhood memory, displacement, and communal identity rooted in his early life in Saint Louis du Nord, Haiti, and his journey to South Florida. At the heart of the exhibition is the Haitian concept of lakou—a communal living structure that symbolizes shared responsibility, resilience, and belonging. For La Croix, lakou is both lived experience and metaphor: a constellation of homes, memories, and identities formed while moving between relatives during a prolonged immigration process. Each piece becomes a “doorway,” inviting viewers into an evolving narrative of home, culture, spirituality, and self. The celebration begins with the Opening Reception on Friday, May 8th, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Ali Cultural Arts Center. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist, engage with the work, and immerse themselves in an evening honoring Haitian heritage through visual storytelling and community dialogue. Louiveste La Croix is an artist born in Haiti and currently based in South Florida. His work combines multimedia techniques, gestural figures, and abstract color schemes that captivate viewers. He studied Fine Art at Broward College and has exhibited internationally, including presentations in Brooklyn, Miami’s Wynwood arts district, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale. La Croix uses his art to convey messages of spiritual awareness, unity and consciousness through natural elements, while paying tribute to historical roots to promote conscious evolution. He believes true artistry comes from taking risks, creating what has never been done before, and expressing oneself authentically. Continuing the celebration, the rhythm of Haiti comes alive with Konpa Pompano! on Saturday, May 9th, 2026 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at The Hive Black Box Theater. This lively dance workshop celebrates Konpa, one of Haiti’s most iconic musical and dance traditions, brought to life by instructor Caleb Exantus. Open to all skill levels, the workshop invites participants to learn foundational steps, connect through movement, and experience the joy and energy of Haitian culture firsthand. Together, Lakou La Croix and Konpa Pompano! form a dynamic cultural pairing—one offering introspective exploration through art, the other an embodied celebration through dance—creating a meaningful and multifaceted tribute to Haitian Heritage Month. - Stress-Free Steps Toward Self-Care
Stress-Free Steps Toward Self-Care Family Features April 7, 2023 Share Over the last few years, self-care has taken on heightened importance for moms across the country. That is why Mrs. T's Pierogies is partnering with actress, entrepreneur and mom JoAnna Garcia Swisher for its "All-Star Moms" campaign to spotlight the importance of finding ways to recharge and help these real-life superheroes prioritize me-time. Simplifying self-care for All-Star Moms everywhere can be as easy as designating a "recharging room" in the home, which offers a personal space to reset and relax. When creating your recharging room, keep these tips from Garcia Swisher in mind: • Balance Beautiful with Functional: Find hosting staples like cutting boards, utensils and napkins that match the vibe of your personal space so the area can double as an entertaining space. • Keep it Easy to Clean: Choose furniture and decor that can handle a little mess from snacks, like Mrs. T's Mini Pierogies and your favorite dip, which are perfect for enjoying while binge-watching favorite shows. • Add a Personal Touch: Showcase a piece that tells a story, like a favorite embroidered pillow, piece of meaningful jewelry or framed photo of an amazing memory. • Bring In Something Cozy: Add cozy touches like a blanket, fluffy pillow or favorite slippers for something comfortable. • Make a Statement: Let your inner designer shine by taking a chance on something bold that represents a part of your personality you don't normally indulge. • Plan an Anchor Piece: This item is the foundation for everything, such as a vintage armchair, comfy couch or storage piece that tells a story. Choose this item first then build around it. Moms can also prioritize self-care by whipping up an easy-to-make recipe, like these Margherita Pizza Pierogi Skewers, for themselves, a gathering of friends or an afternoon family snack. Pasta pockets filled with creamy mashed potatoes, cheesy goodness and other big, bold flavors, Mrs. T's Pierogies are simple to prepare. This means more time for moms to do the stuff they love like unwinding from the day with favorite foods in their recharging spaces. Visit: www.MrsTsPierogies.com for more recipe inspiration.
