Aventura Arts & Cultural Center Welcomes Community-Minded Residents to Join the Theater’s Volunteer Team

The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center is now accepting applications for new volunteer ushers. Volunteers play an important role at the waterfront performing arts venue, welcoming guests, helping audience members find their seats and assisting with the overall experience before and during performances.

For those who enjoy live theater, music, dance and other cultural programming, volunteering also provides an opportunity to enjoy performances while meeting other people who share an appreciation for the arts.

A two-hour volunteer orientation and training session is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28. Those interested in becoming volunteer ushers must apply online before attending the orientation.

Volunteer opportunities are available to a wide range of community members. High school students can participate while fulfilling community service requirements, while retirees and other adults can enjoy an opportunity to remain active in the community and become involved with the local performing arts scene.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Those accepted into the program are asked to commit to a regular weekly shift, either for an evening or matinee performance. Volunteers join a team of other ushers assigned to the same continuing shift, allowing them to become familiar with the theater, its staff and fellow volunteers.

Interested applicants should first complete the online volunteer application at: www.aventuracenter.org/volunteer. Following submission of an application, prospective volunteers will be contacted by the volunteer coordinator prior to the scheduled orientation to confirm their attendance.

Once applicants complete the required two-hour orientation and training session, they are eligible to begin ushering at performances.

Priority is given to full-time Florida residents and applicants who are regularly available for several of the theater’s busiest and most-needed shifts. These include Thursday evenings for events scheduled at 4:00 p.m. or later, Saturday evenings for events scheduled at 4:00 p.m. or later, and Sunday matinees for events scheduled at 3:59 p.m. or earlier.

For many volunteers, the opportunity offers more than simply helping patrons find their seats. Ushers are among the first representatives of the theater that audience members encounter when they arrive, making them an important part of the welcoming atmosphere at the center.

The volunteer program also provides residents with a chance to become more familiar with the variety of cultural and educational programs presented at the venue throughout the year. From performing arts productions to community and educational events, the center serves audiences of all ages.

Managed by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center is a 14,864-square-foot, 330-Seat Waterfront Complex located at 3385 Northeast 188th Street, Aventura, Florida 33180. The facility hosts a wide range of performing arts, cultural and educational programming.
