Hollywood Prepares For Next Round Of King Tides

By City of Hollywood

Oct 22, 2026

Another Round Of Seasonal King Tides Is Expected To Impact Hollywood Beginning Thursday, October 22nd, 2026 And Continuing Through Saturday, October 31st, 2026 With Elevated Water Levels Potentially Lasting Into Sunday, November 1st, 2026. According To The National Weather Service (NWS), The Highest Tides Are Expected Monday, October 26th, 2026 – Wednesday, October 28th, 2026 Bringing The Potential For Flooding In Low-Lying And Coastal Areas.

The combination of the Monday, October 26th, 2026 full moon, persistent strong onshore winds and forecasted weekend showers could push water levels above current moderate flood projections. King Tides are unusually high seasonal tides that can cause flooding even when skies are clear. With seven miles of shoreline, nearly eight miles of canals and flat topography, Hollywood is particularly vulnerable to tidal flooding.

During recent King Tide events, portions of Hollywood experienced street flooding, including areas along A1A and Hollywood Beach. City crews have been actively responding to flooding concerns by monitoring water levels, maintaining tidal valves, deploying barricades and operating permanent and auxiliary pumps to help clear flooded streets.

The City has also taken additional steps to protect vulnerable areas, including the installation of temporary Tiger Dams at eight openings along the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk knee wall to help prevent seawater and sand from flowing onto the Broadwalk. These barriers are expected to remain in place through November. In the South Lake area, tidal gate panels installed along sections of higher seawalls are also helping hold back rising water. These measures complement ongoing stormwater improvements, including upgraded tidal valves, seawalls and drainage Infrastructure.

Residents and businesses in flood-prone areas are encouraged to take precautions to protect their properties and vehicles. Vehicles should be moved to higher ground when flooding is anticipated, and valuable belongings, equipment and inventory should be elevated or secured. The City offers free self-service sand and sandbags to Hollywood residents on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Visit the “Hollywood Happenings” section at: www.HollywoodFL.org for distribution details. Residents can also help reduce localized flooding by keeping leaves, coconuts and other debris out of storm drains and catch basins. Motorists should never drive through flooded streets, as water may be deeper than it appears and can damage or disable vehicles. Residents should also avoid walking through floodwaters and keep children and pets away from flooded areas.

Additional King Tide periods are expected November 5-11, November 22-28, December 5-8 and December 23-27. Actual flooding impacts will depend on weather and tidal conditions.

The City continues to monitor conditions and encourages residents and businesses to report flooding through Hollywood Connect at: www.HollywoodFL.org/hollywoodconnect. Reports help City Staff document flooding locations and identify areas needing additional attention.
