The Gift of Love: The New Book ‘Committed’ Helps Readers Cultivate Lasting Relationships December 23, 2021 Share Stories of flawless families and perfect romances fill social media feeds and TV screens year round, but during the holiday season in particular, these idyllic narratives can trigger feelings of loneliness in those still searching for that special someone. Here to help readers discard preconceived notions, reconsider unrealistic expectations and truly understand people and personalities that work well together is world-renowned Psychologist Dr. Carmen Harra. “Commitment can’t be forced, scheduled or altered. It either comes from the heart or it doesn’t,” says Dr. Harra. Whether you’re entering the dating scene for the first time, starting over or hoping to strengthen a current relationship, Dr. Harra’s new book, Committed: Finding Love and Loyalty Through the Seven Archetypes, will prompt you to reevaluate the way you think about love and ultimately make better choices. In Committed, Dr. Harra, Co-author and daughter, Alexandra Harra, who is a certified relationship coach, explain the seven main archetypes we all encounter, the promises they hold and the challenges they pose to relationships. The first part of Committed is devoted to the work we need to do on the inside and readers will learn how to reexamine core beliefs they hold, clear karmic patterns, heal any emotional trauma, liberate themselves from people who no longer serve them and develop an unshakable sense of self-worth. The second half of the book teaches readers how to identify archetypes in others and themselves, navigate the world of online dating, build emotional intimacy, mediate external influences and apply real-world solutions to resolve relationship problems. Ultimately, Committed aims to help you find and keep the love you deserve: an authentic, impassioned relationship that fills you with excitement each morning and puts your mind at ease every night. • Say Cheese - Shavuot Holiday 101 | sun-times

Say Cheese - Shavuot Holiday 101 By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil May 19, 2026 At A Unique Crossroads Between Religion And Cuisine, The Holiday Of Shavuot, Celebrating The Giving Of The Torah At Mount Sinai Some 3,338 Years Ago, Has Become A Celebration Of Fine Dairy Cuisine As Well. Shavuot Is Celebrated For Two Days, This Year Beginning At Sundown On Thursday, May 21st, 2026 And Ending At Nightfall On Saturday, May 23rd, 2026. 50 days after leaving Egypt on Passover, the Jewish people received the Torah from G-d at Mount Sinai on the holiday of Shavuot. Shavuot literally means “weeks” and marks the completion of the seven-week counting period between Passover and Shavuot. Shavuot customs include all-night Torah study, listening to the recitation of the Ten Commandments, the reading of the Book of Ruth, eating dairy products and adorning the home with flowers. With the giving of the Torah, the Jews became obligated to observe the Kosher laws. As the Torah was given on Shabbat, no cattle or poultry could be slaughtered, nor could we make sure that the animal's insides were healthy and then properly cleaned out as is required in order for the meat to be Kosher. In addition, utensils could not be Koshered, and as such we ate dairy. Exquisite cheesecakes, pesto pastas, lasagna, souffles, eggplant parmesan and of course, cheese blintzes all take center stage during this ancient celebration. When thinking Jewish Holidays, Passover, Chanukah and Yom Kippur usually come to mind first. Nevertheless, Shavuot is considered one of Judaism's main holidays and was in fact a “pilgrimage” when all of Israel would travel to Jerusalem to celebrate in the Temple in Jerusalem. No, it isn't all about the food. Especially in lieu of what's been happening around the world with all the antisemetic rhetoric, what is important is that the community is joining together, hearing the Ten Commandments and celebrating the Torah. But the good food certainly helps. The tradition to learn all night has been practiced ever since we received the Torah. On the very night before G-d gave the Torah, we went to sleep, waking late in the morning. As a symbolic rectification for this, Jews customarily stay awake studying Torah until the morning, on the first night of Shavuot, this year on Thursday night. Since we all stood at Mount Sinai, we must all reaffirm our commitment. On Friday, May 22nd, 2026 the Ten Commandments will be read aloud from the Torah. Special emphasis is placed on including the entire Jewish family, including little babies, the way the Torah’s giving was attended by every Jewish man, woman and child. The word Torah means “instruction” or “guide.” The Torah guides our every step and move through its 613 Mitzvahs. The word Mitzvah means both “commandment” and “connection.” Through the study of Torah and fulfillment of Mitzvahs, we reconnect ourselves and our environment to G‑d. G‑d’s purpose in creating the world was that all of creation be sanctified, imbuing it with holiness and spirituality. Since Shavuot is also called the “Harvest Festival,” it is customary to adorn the home with fruits, flowers and greens. Most of us are, thank G-d, able to get out and celebrate the way we have for over three thousand years. But for those that are for whatever reason staying home, that should in no way stop you from celebrating the holiday, since most of the holiday is super easy to celebrate even while at home alone. Not going to work • Eating dairy • Praying the special holiday prayers • Studying Torah all night • Decorating the home with flowers • The only things that we can't do without a quorum, are hearing the Ten Commandments read from the Torah and praying with a minyan. But you can still study the Ten Commandments from a Torah Book, known as a Chumash (which you can download before the holiday at: www.ChabadChayil.org/Chumash ) and pray from a Siddur prayer book (downloadable at: www.ChabadChayil.org/Siddur ). And you can still read Yizkor, even without a minyan: at: ChabadChayil.org/Yizkor . To learn more about Shavuot and the many customs associated with it, visit: www.ChabadChayil.org/Shavuot . There you can also get delicious dairy & dairy-like recipes, send free holiday greeting cards, download the prayers & suggested all night Torah study. If you are able to go out, then you should certainly make sure to attend services this holiday, at least to hear the Ten Commandments read from the Torah on Friday morning. • An Educational Send-Up Of Epic Laughs Awaits - Audiences Are Embracing The Needle-Sharp Satirical Look At Parenting, Privilege, And The Minefield Of Modern Communication | sun-times

An Educational Send-Up Of Epic Laughs Awaits - Audiences Are Embracing The Needle-Sharp Satirical Look At Parenting, Privilege, And The Minefield Of Modern Communication South Florida Sun Times Sep 3, 2026 All Voices Matter. But Do Some Matter More Than Others? Throw Yourself Into The Debate As Inclusion, Equality And Education Are Comedically Put To The Test In Island City Stage’s Production Of The 2025 Tony Award-Winning Play, Eureka Day By Jonathan Spector. Tickets Are On Sale Now For This Needle-Sharp Satirical Look At Parenting, Privilege, And The Minefield Of Modern Communication That Runs Through Sunday, September 13th, 2026. The Show Closes Out Island City Stage’s 14th Successful Season Of Bold, Inventive Storytelling. “You can always spot a Eureka Day kid because at soccer games, they’re the ones who cheer when the other team scores.” In this ultra-progressive private school in California, every voice matters—until a mumps outbreak turns harmony into hysteria. In this, a well-meaning board of directors prides itself on consensus and inclusion. But when public health collides with personal beliefs, even the most open-minded parents find themselves at odds. As tensions rise and Zoom meetings spiral into chaos, the community must confront the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, doing the right thing means not pleasing everyone. Although penned prior to COVID-19 but after California’s infamous measles outbreak at Disneyland, the timely, relevant play diagnoses the rapid social decay that can occur when even like-minded people can’t agree. “Eureka Day” has a certain straightforwardness to its tightly drawn plot that belies its sophistication. It’s satirical — and billed as such — in poking fun at Bay Area liberals, and yet it also has a kindness and sensitivity in the way it approaches its characters, including its anti-vaxxers (who are also Bay Area liberals!). Yes, Spector clearly takes sides here in the debate over vaccines, but he makes sure that, in progressive parlance, everyone is “heard.” – Chicago Sun Times. Local theater critics and audiences are already embracing the thoughtfully staged production. “Spector’s strong script receives strong staging from Andy Rogow, who is Island City’s Artistic Director. Rogow’s smooth hand keeps the comedy infused with the play’s serious aspects. Rogow has assembled a solid cast, molded to his vision, to close out Island City’s 14th Season. Michael McClain’s colorful scenic design sets the tone of “Eureka Day,” with its artfully arranged books, naturally color-coordinated, and a poster with diverse hands reaching toward each other and the saying ‘All stories matter.’” – Oline Cogdill, Sun-Sentinel and Florida Theater On Stage "Saw the Tony-Award Winning Play Eureka Day at the iconic Island City Stage. Next-level acting. Brilliant rapid-fire dialogue. Funny. Poignant. Timely." - Matt Tesoriero "I have to say that Eureka Day is an incredible final play for Season 14. I truly loved it and enjoyed it. Keep on presenting great performances for Season 15." - Richard Paul "This is a great show. Triggering. Brilliant." - Baris Ipeker Eureka Day premiered at Aurora Theatre Company in Berkeley, California in April 2018 then moved to New York at Walkerspace the following year. Its European premiere at The Old Vic in September 2022 featured Mark McKinney, Helen Hunt, Susan Kelechi Watson, Kirsten Foster and Ben Schnetzer. In 2024, Eureka Day premiered on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre starring Bill Irwin, Amber Gray, Jessica Hecht, Thomas Middleditch, Chelsea Yakura-Kurtz and Eboni Flowers. Island City Stage’s production of Eureka Day is helmed by Artistic Director Andy Rogow and stars Brandon Campbell (Eli), Jen Chia (Meiko), Rita Cole (Carina), Ted DeChatelet (Don), and Maribeth Graham (Suzanne). “When I first read Eureka Day more than five years ago, I knew we had to produce it,” said Rogow. “Through searing comedy and heartfelt storytelling, this explosive play confronts us individually and as a community to question what inclusion for all really means and what we're willing to sacrifice to be inclusive.” Eureka Day Lights and Sound Sponsor is Scott Bennett and Costume Sponsor is Howard Kurzweil. Additional funding is provided by the following: The Our Fund Foundation, The Schubert Foundation Inc., the SHS Foundation, the Warten Foundation, and OutClique. Individual show tickets start at $45. As part of its commitment to the community, Island City Stage is offering South Florida educators a $5 off per ticket discount with the code EDTEACH5. A Women’s Night at the Theater with a pre-show reception sponsored by PJ Hitchins will take place on September 4th. The show runs for one hour and 50 minutes with an intermission. • The Police Activities League: Celebrating The Grand Opening Of The PAL Foster Park Facility

The Police Activities League: Celebrating The Grand Opening Of The PAL Foster Park Facility By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper May 19, 2023 Share This coming weekend is the grand opening of the PAL Foster Park Facility at 609 Northwest 6th Avenue and Foster Road. The celebration will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a day filled with fun and entertainment for all ages. The Memorial Mobile Health Van will also be at the park. This service will be available every Monday to help those without medical access or insurance to receive care. It is also available for all ages. The Police Activities League formerly known as the Police Athletic League was established in 1914 in New York City to address youth delinquency. Over its long history it has had its difficulties. Wars, depression, and other societal issues. Its main focus has always been to assist in keeping children on the right path. Police Officers worked and volunteered by providing After School Sports Activities and Homework Help. PAL in our city was not around 30 years ago. It began with Former Chief Tom Magill who had a rich history and commitment to Community Policing. He was sworn into office in 2010 and started to transform our department. With the continued support of the city, many philanthropic corporate partners and community volunteers, PAL is serving well over 2,000 children annually through multiple programs and sports activities. Jonathan Carrillo is the PAL Program Coordinator and is doing an amazing job. There is a PAL office at our new Bluesten Park located at 510 Southeast 1st Avenue. With the expansion into Foster Park, they will now have a meeting facility equipped with an office, classrooms, a library, and a kitchen area. In addition to their programs, they will be partnering with other agencies and Non-Profit Organizations to provide additional programs to enrich After School Activities. PAL can use your help. You can always make a monetary donation. Visit them at: www.HallandaleBeachPAL.com or on Facebook. They are also looking for volunteers. You may have a special talent or skill that can expand the knowledge of our participants. You can simply volunteer to lend a hand during game days or at the center. We know many people are busy and may not want to make a full-time commitment, but you can sign up and find out the needs they are trying to fulfill that fit your time schedule. I encourage all our residents to stop by Saturday to enjoy the day and find out more. PAL also partners with our local schools very closely. They have partnered with an Anti-Bullying Campaign at our K-8. Since COVID-19, our schools have been under plenty of stress. With lower enrollments that directly impact their budgets both Principal Campbell of Gulfstream Academy of Hallandale Beach K-8 and Principal Howard of Hallandale High School have been in rebuilding mode. All Florida Schools rank around 50% in proficiency as compared to their national counterparts. So, when you look at schools compared to others they are around the same. These ranks are all combined meaning they are the average of all level combined percentiles. When you go into rankings at Public Schools it is truly not a level playing field compared to private. Public Schools are required to accept all students. They do not get the luxury of selecting all top performing students. Schools are not just simply about numbers or bricks and mortar. It is about students and teachers. With this said there is plenty of cream rising to the top at both schools. With schools getting somewhat back to normal I have had a chance to attend some events at the schools. I wrote recently about the High School’s Women Leadership Day. Last week I had the chance to attend the JNHS Junior National Honor Society Installation and G.A.H. K-8 for the upper school students, the Stallions. It was the first ceremony for JNHS since COVID-19. Principal Campbell’s team did an amazing job ensuring that the students received that recognition they deserved. It was an honor to participate and speak about “community.” The core principles of JNHS are scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. It was great to have our District School Board Member Daniel P. Foganholi attend and give remarks. His support means so much to the school parents and most importantly the students. Congratulations to all the parent and to inductees; Sofia Bondurenko, Emily Castro, Kerlin Contreras, Quentin Crawford, Brandon Diaz, D’cota Ferguson, Lailah Ferguson, Jaelix Fuentes, Frantz Teo Garaud, Jacob Garcia, Angie Cruz Iscano, Sydni Neunie, Camila Ortiz, Charlize Pozo, Giovannia Rodriguez, Razia Sadaf, Idanya Sancahez, Alexis Supersaad, Ethen Tassey, and Enzo Vasquez. All future leaders! As always, I am available for your questions, concerns, and ideas to help make our City a better place. Please feel free to reach out to me at my office: (954) 457-1318.
