  • Unfazed: Journeys of Resilience

Unfazed: Journeys of Resilience By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil June 15, 2021 Share Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson - After the decimation of the Holocaust, the Rebbe breathed new life and vitality into the Jewish people. The 3rd of Tamuz, this year on Sunday, June 13, marked the 27th Yohrtzeit - anniversary of the passing, of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Known affectionately and simply as The Rebbe, he was probably the most influential Rabbi, in history. With his Shluchim emissaries, dispatched to every corner of the world, his impact is felt everywhere, you turn. After the decimation of the Holocaust, the Rebbe breathed new life and vitality into the Jewish people, urging them (and demonstrating by example) to celebrate Judaism and live life optimistically, to ‘reclaim’ countless individuals and communities to living a Jewish way of life, to feel personal responsibility and for all others, everywhere. In so doing, the Rebbe altered the much-prophesied demise of Judaism, forever shifting the course of the history and transforming the landscape, of Jewish life. The Rebbe took breathtaking responsibility for the material and spiritual welfare of Jews in the Soviet Union (including masterminding the exodus of thousands), in Morocco, Iran and more, while reaching out to Jews in Curacao, Japan and Alaska... Israel’s leaders turned to the Rebbe for counsel, on public health policies; military strategy; economy; relations with the U.S., Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia and above all, it's, the educational system. Growing up in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, just a few short streets away from the Rebbe, I was fortunate enough, to see the Rebbe, all of the time. I prayed with him, in his Shul, sang by his Farbrengens, stood at his public gatherings and rallies, I watched every glimpse, that I could. As a child, I would look around at the thousands of people that would constantly come from all over the world to seek his counsel, hear his talks, or just to see his holy face and I remember thinking, how privileged I was, to live, right there. Every Sunday for hours,The Rebbe would stand, giving out dollars and blessings to thousands of people from all walks of life. He gave the dollar to be given to a charity of choice. People would of course exchange that dollar for one of their own to give to charity and to keep the dollars they got from the Rebbe’s hand, as a sign of, a blessing. The Rebbe was remarkably accessible and counseled, countless individuals from a wide array of backgrounds, including statesmen and artists as diverse as Ronald Reagan, Robert F. Kennedy, Yitzchak Rabin, Menachem Begin, Elie Wiesel and Bob Dylan, as well as countless and “nameless” individuals, who were, each showered with his individual attention and love. He spoke out largely, about his activity, in public issues, like, public school education, charity for employees’ distribution, large families, moral education, the energy crisis, a universal moral code for all, creating and bolstering the Food Stamp/WIC system for America’s underprivileged, the responsibility of government and much more. He believed and taught that the age-old ideals and text of Torah are as real and relevant today, as they were at Sinai, over, 3,000 years ago. Today, thank G-d, the Rebbe’s teachings and ideals have already become ingrained in our society and inspire millions of Jews and non-Jews. More people than ever, are learning his teachings and acting on his wishes of spreading Judaism to Jews and moral ethics, to all people. People of all walks of life, flock to his resting place to pray to G‑d for blessing, guidance and inspiration. In 2013, on the night, preceding his election to the Senate, Democratic Candidate, Cory Booker, an African-American Christian, went to pray at the Rebbe’s Ohel. In 2016, preceding his election, President Trump sent his family to pray at the Ohel, on his behalf. Go there any day, any time and you will see people from all walks of life praying to G-d, at that holy site. The Rebbe was a wide-ranging Torah personality, whose vast knowledge spanned the entire spectrum of the Torah. His teachings include: Ideas in Jewish philosophy and theology, commentary on biblical, talmudical and kabbalistic texts, perspectives on world events as well as, moral and practical, directives. Over the next few weeks, thousands of communities worldwide, will be marking this holy day with special events. I urge you to contact your local synagogue or Chabad to find out what they have planned, but more importantly, to see what extra good deeds you can do, to perpetuate the Rebbe’s legacy and make the world, a better place. You’re invited, of course, to join us at The Family Shul for a Special Shabbat Dinner & Lunch honoring the Rebbe, which, you can RSVP for, at: 305-770-1919. To learn more about this saintly man, visit: www.ChabadChayil.org/rebbe. There will also be a special in-person & virtual event, joined by hundreds of communities and titled, Journeys of Resilience. This mega event will feature lessons of resilience and self empowerment from the life & teachings of The Rebbe, featuring speakers such as: Elisha Wiesel and Dina Hurwitz, performers like Itzhak Perlman and Shulem Lemmer. Join us on Monday, June 14th at 7:00 p.m., in-person at Chabad Chayil. Or virtually at: www.ChabadChayil.org/LiveStream. • Tired Of Tightening Your Budget: Here's How To Find A Side Hustle You'll Love

Tired Of Tightening Your Budget: Here's How To Find A Side Hustle You'll Love May 11, 2023 Share Tighten the purse strings. Balance the budget. Cut back. There are many ways to say it, but the current economy has millions of Americans doing the same thing: struggling to make ends meet. Wouldn't it be nice to alleviate the financial pressure? For some people, this means asking for help. Four in 10 people have asked their loved ones for money over the past year to deal with the rising cost of living, according to a Herbalife Survey of 8,500 respondents across 10 countries, including 2,000 Americans. Results show respondents are relying on others for help with essentials, including groceries (40%) and their rent or mortgage (29%). Asking for help is hard to do, but it's certainly not reflective of people's lack of effort. In fact, 56% of respondents currently have a side hustle or other form of Supplemental Income. Of those people with side hustles, 55% shared they started it solely to make ends meet, 40% to deal with the rising Cost Of Living, 38% to be less reliant on a Single Source Of Income and 36% wanting to have a Disposable Income. "In addition to providing an Extra Source Of Income, many side hustles are flexible, allowing people to work at their own schedule," explained Ibi Montesino, Herbalife's Executive Vice President of Distributor and Customer Experience. "Our research shows that on average, most people say that they'd need to earn about $404 more per month to live comfortably." The research also shows that those with a side hustle commit an average of about eight and a half hours per week to that side hustle. But that time can vary: 28% dedicate 3-5 hours a week to their side hustle, while 24% devote 6-10 hours per week. If you think a side hustle might be helpful for you, there are many options based on your interests, resources and availability. Some people care for kids or pets, while others may do house cleaning, landscaping or other handy work. These types of side hustles can help you save money, but it can be challenging when you're solo and don't have a support system. But in today's world you may have to take a chance to make ends meet, it's not uncommon for people to take on side hustles to make extra money. Whether you're saving up for a trip or just looking to pad your Bank Account, there are plenty of ways to earn a little extra cash on the side. Here are just a few options to explore some of the best side hustles that you can do to make money. Freelance writing If you have a knack for writing, then freelance writing can be a great way to make some extra cash. There are plenty of websites out there that are always looking for content, from blog posts to news articles. You can even pitch your ideas to publications that you admire and see if they're interested in publishing your work. Pet-sitting and dog-walking If you love animals, then pet-sitting and dog-walking could be the perfect side hustle for you. Many pet owners are busy during the day or go away on vacation and need someone to look after their furry friends. You can advertise your services on websites like Rover and Wag! and start earning money in no time. Online tutoring If you have expertise in a particular subject, then online tutoring can be a lucrative side hustle. There are plenty of websites out there that allow you to sign up and offer your services to students who need extra help. You can even set your own rates and work from the comfort of your own home. Virtual assisting Many small business owners and entrepreneurs are looking for virtual assistants to help them with their day-to-day tasks. This could include anything from scheduling appointments to answering emails. You can find virtual assistant jobs on websites like Upwork and Fiverr and start earning money right away. Delivery services With the rise of online shopping, there's a huge demand for delivery services. You can sign up to work for companies like Uber Eats or Grubhub and start delivering food to hungry customers. Alternatively, you can work for Amazon Flex and deliver packages to customers' doors. Photography If you have a talent for photography, then you can turn it into a side hustle. There are plenty of websites out there that allow you to sell your photos, such as Shutterstock and iStock. You can even offer your services as a photographer for events like weddings and birthday parties. Social Media management Many Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs struggle to keep up with their Social Media Accounts. If you're Social Media savvy, then you can offer your services as a Social Media Manager. You can create and schedule posts, respond to comments, and even run advertising campaigns. Renting out your space If you have a spare room or even a whole apartment that you're not using, then you can rent it out on websites like Airbnb. This can be a great way to make some extra cash, especially if you live in a popular tourist destination. Another option that some people find is a better fit is direct selling. This is when you are an authorized representative that sells products for a company, and the big benefit is that there is often training and a support system to help you succeed. "The increased cost of living is causing people to search for Supplemental Income Streams. Direct selling provides flexibility and a support system that positions you to reach your goals," said Humbi Calleja, Herbalife's Vice President and General Manager, North America. If you're interested in direct selling, it's important to find an opportunity that works best for you. Montesino and Calleja recommend these simple tips to help people find the right network marketing company: Pinpoint the ideal product or service: Finding a consumable product that sells consistently and needs replacement is a great option. Choose something you're passionate about because you're more likely to dedicate time and effort to it. Learn about the company: Before deciding what company to move forward with, researching their background is a must. Typically, the longer the company has been in business, the more experience it has. Determine start-up costs: Once you identify the right company for you, determine the cost of the start-up kit. It will contain everything you need to get started and run your business. Study the compensation plan: This shows you how the company plans to incentivize and reward your hard work. It will also give you an idea of income expectations, income frequency and how long it will take to reach your goals. Confirm marketing support: Aside from your start-up kit, having access to marketing support helps grow your business. For example, the company should help you identify the target market to understand your customers better and provide online marketing resources to help you launch effective promotions. Research training opportunities: Ongoing training and opportunities to connect with people going through the same experience will help inspire you and enable you to run your business better. Opportunity for growth: Ensure that the company has demonstrated continuous growth opportunities and is committed to helping you with resources and support as you strive to reach your goals. No one can predict what the economy will do in the future, but you can take control of your finances by adding an Extra Income Stream. Start by researching opportunities and choose the right one for you. < Previous News Next News >

  • It's Important To Move Over: Two Emergency Responders, Including Tow Workers, Are Struck And Killed Every Month

It's Important To Move Over: Two Emergency Responders, Including Tow Workers, Are Struck And Killed Every Month May 11, 2023 Share For years, Florida drivers have been required by Law to slow down and move over for First Responders on the roadside. With the expanded Law, Florida becomes the 15th State Requiring Motorists to also move over for a broken-down vehicle on the roadside. The Move Over Law is a safety measure that aims to protect those who work on or near the roadways, including Law Enforcement Officers, Emergency Responders, Tow Operators, and Maintenance Workers. This Law Requires Motorists to move over one lane or slow down to a safe speed when they see these workers on the side of the road. Failure to do so can result in a Fine and other Penalties. The Move Over Law has been in place in Florida since 2002, but this recent Bill, HB 425, expands the Law to include: Disabled Vehicles displaying their Hazard Lights, Emergency Flares, or Emergency Signage. This means that if you see a Disabled Vehicle on the roadside with any of these Warning Signs, you must move over one lane or slow down to a safe speed. According to the Bill, Violators of this Law could be Cited with a Non-Criminal Moving Violation and a Fine of up to $158. This may seem like a small Penalty, but it is important to remember that the purpose of this Law is to protect the lives of those who work on or near the roadways. In 2016-2020, an average of nearly 350 people per year were struck and killed while outside a Disabled Vehicle on the roadside. This is a staggering number that demonstrates the urgent need for this Law. The Move Over Law is not only important for the Safety of those who work on or near the roadways, but also for the Safety of all Motorists. When drivers fail to move over or slow down for workers on the roadside, they increase the risk of causing an accident. This can lead to Injuries, Property Damage, and even Fatalities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, on average, two Emergency Responders, including Tow Workers, are struck and killed every month by a driver who fails to obey the Law by moving over to an adjacent lane and allowing the Roadside Rescuers the space to operate. This is a disturbing trend that must be addressed, and the Move Over Law is a step in the right direction. Roadside crashes are notably deadly for Tow Workers. Government data shows that Tow Operators are killed at a rate of almost 43 deaths per 100,000 workers, compared to just three for all other industries. This underscores the importance of the Move Over Law for Tow Operators, who often work in dangerous conditions on the side of the road. The passage of this Bill is a victory for the Safety of all Floridians, and it is a reminder that we must all do our part to keep our roads safe. As Motorists, we have a responsibility to obey the Law and to be vigilant when driving on the roadways. This means paying attention to the road and to the workers on the side of the road, and taking the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. In conclusion, the passage of Florida's Expanded Move Over Law is a significant step in the right direction for Road Safety. This Law not only protects the lives of those who work on or near the roadways, but also the lives of all Motorists. With the passage of this Law, Florida becomes the 15th State to Require Motorists to move over for Disabled Vehicles on the roadside, and this is a positive development for the Safety of all Floridians. As we move forward, it is important that we continue to educate the public about the importance of this Law and to Enforce it rigorously to ensure that everyone stays Safe on the roadways. < Previous News Next News >

Randy has built a remarkable reputation through his various relationships in the community. His love of people and desire to always give back to the community he grew up in, has garnered him an enormous and varying network of clientele from far and wide. • Hallandale Beach Commits to Net-Zero Emissions by 2050

Hallandale Beach Commits to Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 May 20, 2021 Share The City of Hallandale Beach Wants Residents to Determine the Path to Achieving That Goal Just this week the City of Hallandale Beach doubled down on climate change and joined the Cities Race to Zero. This new commitment pushes the City’s greenhouse gas emission reduction goals forward 5 years to align with many other Florida, national, and global cities in the fight against climate change. The City didn’t join the Race to Zero on a whim; the City has had ambitious greenhouse gas emission reduction goals since 2019 and has been in the process of developing their first Climate Action Plan since June of last year. City leadership is asking its residents, business owners, community and faith-based organizations to get involved in the Climate Action Planning process at www.haveyoursayhallandale.org before the end of May. This website serves as a 24/7, translatable public forum for residents to share their ideas, comment on other’s ideas, and place pins on a map where they would like pro-environment amenities like solar and bikeshares to be placed. The input the City receives at www.haveyoursayhallandale.org will be the basis for what our City-wide strategy will be for reducing our emissions. “Staff could come up with ideal projects for the Plan, but at the end of the day we want a plan that the community feels invested in because becoming net-zero will be something that takes the effort of each and every one of us” said Alyssa Jones Wood the City’s Sustainability & Resiliency Officer. So far residents have shared ideas like requiring solar panels on new developments, improving and adding bicycle lanes throughout the City, and creating a Green Business Certification program. Residents are even being consulted on what the title of the Plan should be! www.haveyoursayhallandale.org will be open for any and all ideas until the end of May when it will transition to asking for comments on the draft Climate Action Plan itself. Residents are also encouraged to attend a virtual public meeting on June 21, 2021 to provide more feedback on the draft Climate Action Plan. The goal is to co-create and adopt this Climate Action Plan by the end of September 2021 and get started on implementation immediately. The City of Hallandale Beach is taking the climate crisis seriously and understands that there is no time to waste. The City of Hallandale Beach is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of the community in a fiscally responsible manner by providing superior services that meet the needs of our community as well as plan for their future needs through continued communication. < Previous News Next News >

Since originating the role of Roger in Rent, Pascal has appeared in leading roles in the Broadway hits Aida, Memphis, Something Rotten! and Disaster! Rapp, who originated the role of Mark in Rent, just completed an acclaimed Off-Broadway run of his original show Without You and is known for starring in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and If/Then. A post-show meet and greet experience may be added to any ticket. Yitzhak Fried delivers another evening of Yiddish classics that takes audiences back to a world long gone and yet forever around. Witness Forever Yiddish 2 - More Songs from the Shtetl on Thursday, January 23rd at 7:30 p.m. Born and raised in post-war Austria, Yitzhak internalized the Yiddish language and melodies that he grew up with in his parents' home. Fried leads audiences on an emotional voyage through songs and stories – sad and happy – and of course with a bissele humor. He offers more Yiddish classics that speak to the soul accompanied by acclaimed pianist Alan Mason, who has played on stages worldwide. Proceeds of this evening will go to support Leket Israel, the leading food rescue organization in Israel. Don’t miss the opportunity see this hilarious spoof when The City of Aventura presents Spamilton: An American Parody, on Friday, January 24th at 8 p.m.; Saturday January 25th at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, January 26th at 2 p.m. Spamilton was regarded by The New York Times as, “smart, silly and convulsively funny!" Countless film and stage stars drop by to add to the fun and mayhem in this fictious story of a very famous writer-director-star trying to save Broadway from mediocrity and oblivion. Along the way, this sharp and loveable genius not only takes aim at Broadway's current mega-hit but manages to make hysterical mincemeat out of many classic and new Broadway shows. This musical romp offers a crash course in favorite Broadway blockbusters and features celebrity satires and pop culture zingers accompanied by hip-hop on the piano. The Huffington Post reported of this multi-generational delight that "You don't have to see Hamilton to have side-splitting fun at Spamilton." This event contains adult language or content. Don’t miss the Tal Cohen Trio on Thursday, January 30th at 8 p.m. presented by Yi Love Jewish. Grammy award-winning jazz pianist, Tal Cohen, unique style infuses jazz with traditional Middle Eastern rhythms, has performed around the world with jazz greats such as Terence Blanchard, Greg Osby, Ignacio Berroa and Joe Lovano. Tal and his ensemble have played at numerous iconic jazz festivals such as Jazzbez Jazz Festival in Ukraine, The Detroit Jazz Festival, Melbourne Jazz Festival, The Miami Beach Jazz Festival, The D.C. Jazz Festival, and NS Sopot Jazz Festival in Poland. A winner of the Barry Harris national piano competition at the Detroit Jazz Festival and the Freedom Jazz Fellowship in his native Australia, Tal’s recent album, ‘Gentle Giants,’ received rave reviews and 4-stars from DownBeat Magazine. His current collaboration with six-time Grammy Award-winner John Daversa is a duo project that explores breaking boundaries of what a duo can achieve.
