Free Dental Clinic - Coming To South Florida To Address Limited Access To Care South Florida Sun Times Apr 10, 2025 Access To Dental Care Is One Of The Most Significant Health Challenges In The United States Today. According To The American Dental Association, Nearly One In Four Americans Struggles To Access Basic Dental Care Due To Various Factors Such As Geographic Barriers, Financial Constraints And Lack Of Insurance. As A Result, Millions Of Americans Go Without Necessary Dental Services, Leading To Pain, Infections And Worsening Health Conditions. In Miami Gardens, Florida, This Issue Is Particularly Pressing For Many Residents, Where Economic Challenges And Limited Healthcare Access Leave A Significant Portion Of The Community Underserved. To address this pressing need, Remote Area Medical (RAM), a leading nonprofit organization focused on providing free healthcare services to underserved communities, is bringing its renowned dental clinic to Miami Gardens. The event will take place on April 26th - April 27th, 2025, at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, located at 3000 NW 199th Street, Miami Gardens, Florida 33056. This free clinic will provide essential dental services to residents of Miami Gardens and surrounding areas who may otherwise not have access to care. Breaking Down Barriers to Dental Care The lack of access to dental care is a multi-faceted problem. For many people, particularly those without insurance, paying for even routine dental procedures can be prohibitively expensive. According to a 2022 survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation, nearly 45% of U.S. adults said they did not visit the dentist in the past year due to cost concerns. Moreover, in areas like Miami Gardens, access to care is further hampered by transportation issues, economic challenges, and a lack of available providers. To help address these barriers, RAM's free dental clinic in Miami Gardens will offer a range of services at no charge. These services include general dental cleanings, extractions and x-rays, all provided by a team of volunteer dental professionals. The clinic aims to reach as many people as possible, regardless of their ability to pay or their insurance status. The event is open to all, with no identification or insurance required for treatment. This makes it one of the most accessible healthcare events in the area, offering essential services to those in need. "Too often, people in underserved communities simply cannot access the dental care they need. RAM's clinic in Miami Gardens is an important opportunity for residents to get the care they deserve," said a local representative. "By providing free, high-quality care, we hope to alleviate some of the pain and stress that many people in our community are facing when it comes to their dental health." A Collaborative Effort This clinic is a collaborative effort between RAM, the City of Miami Gardens, Councilwoman Katrina Baskin, The Golden Foundation, Miami-Dade County Dental Society and the National Dental Association. Each partner plays an essential role in organizing and facilitating the clinic, ensuring that it runs smoothly and can serve as many people as possible. One of the most important aspects of RAM's work is its ability to bring together volunteers from different backgrounds to address critical healthcare needs. The clinic in Miami Gardens will be staffed by a dedicated team of dental professionals, including dentists, hygienists and dental assistants, all of whom are donating their time and expertise to serve the community. The partnership with local organizations and volunteers is essential to the success of RAM's clinics. It's because of their commitment and generosity that RAM is able to provide free dental services to those who need them most. What to Expect at the Clinic The clinic will open its doors at 6:00 a.m. on both Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th, with services provided on a first-come, first-served basis. As demand for these free services is expected to be high, RAM encourages individuals to arrive early. The parking lot at Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex will open at 4:00 a.m. on both days and the clinic doors will open at 6:00 a.m. For those planning to attend, it's recommended to come early to secure a spot, as the clinic may reach its daily capacity before closing time. On Saturday, the clinic will operate throughout the day, while Sunday's operations will be slightly abbreviated, so patients are encouraged to arrive early to receive treatment. RAM also advises attendees to be aware that, in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, there may be changes to the schedule, such as earlier opening times or a reduced number of patients being seen. Since its founding in 1985, Remote Area Medical has been committed to delivering high-quality healthcare to underserved populations across the country. With a focus on rural and underserved urban areas, RAM organizes free healthcare clinics that offer a wide range of services, including dental, vision and medical care. Over the years, RAM has hosted more than 1,500 clinics across the United States, providing over $215 Million in free healthcare services to nearly a million people. RAM's approach to healthcare is unique in that it addresses immediate, essential needs while also fostering long-term improvements in public health. By eliminating barriers like cost and distance, RAM allows individuals to access care that may otherwise be out of reach. This helps prevent more serious health issues down the road and improves quality of life for those who are most vulnerable. The Miami Gardens dental clinic is an excellent opportunity to receive free care, but it is also an opportunity for local residents to get involved. RAM relies heavily on the support of volunteers and donors to make its clinics possible. If you're interested in volunteering or donating, you can find more information on RAM's website at: www.ramusa.org. For those who wish to attend the clinic, the Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/s/ram-free-clinic-miami-gardens-/956952649714116 is another resource for up-to-date information on the clinic schedule and other details. With the help of local organizations, volunteers and donors, RAM is able to bring free dental care to those who need it most. By providing essential services, RAM is improving lives and making a tangible difference in the fight for equitable healthcare access. In a world where millions still struggle with limited access to dental care, RAM's free clinics offer a much-needed solution, bringing healthcare directly to those in need and offering hope for a brighter, healthier future. • Hallandale City Center: This Vision Has Been Long In The Making

Hallandale City Center: This Vision Has Been Long In The Making June 16, 2022 Share The "Northwest Section'' of Hallandale Beach as it's known by locals is defined as North of Hallandale Beach Boulevard and West of Dixie Highway. Over the decades, the area has gone through many changes and had many visions for its future. One of these visions has been in the works with the consistent dedication of the Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (HBCRA), along with City Officials and Staff. On Thursday, June 9th, 2022 the fruits of all this labor came to fruition with the Official "GroundBreaking Ceremony" held at the site, across from City of Hallandale Beach Fire Station 7. Directly across the street from the station is the development site of Hallandale City Center, sitting at the Northwestern corner of Foster Road and West Dixie Highway. Foster Road is the main thoroughfare that cuts through the Northwest. The official areas the development covers are: 505 Northwest 2nd Avenue/501 Northwest 1st Avenue/110 Foster Road; 501 North Dixie Highway; 605 North Dixie Highway and 608 Northwest 1st Avenue. Owner/Developer Hallandale City Center, LLC along with the Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (HBCRA) Staff, City Commissioners, Deputy Vice Chair, Mike Butler, Director, Michele Lazarow, City Officials and others came out to celebrate the GroundBreaking of this Transformative Project. Known as the Hallandale City Center, the 4-Acre, Mixed-Use Project will feature approximately 8,000 Feet of Commercial/Retail Space, which will be utilized by a small neighborhood “Green Grocery” Store. 270 parking spaces will be provided, which will serve both the residential and commercial components. 55 of those parking spaces will be set aside perpetually per a Redevelopment Agreement as Public Parking for the City of Hallandale Beach. The Developer, Claudia Penas, worked tirelessly on the Project and in coordination with the Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (HBCRA) and City Staff. “Hallandale City Center LLC aims to bring to the City of Hallandale Beach a leading worldwide approach to Afford-able Housing Production commonly known as the ‘Vienna Model,” she said. “Unlike Traditional Affordable Housing Development Models, where construction costs are the main priority, the Vienna Model has Four Equally Essential Pillars: Architectural Quality, Environmental Considerations, Social Sustain-ability and Economic Costs." “This has resulted in beautiful, yet Affordable Housing Projects that are assets to the Public Realm.” The cost of construction is approximately $17 Million and will bring together State-Of-The-Art Architectural Design, Environmental Sustainability, Landscape Design and will shift significant commercial activity of Hallandale Beach West of the waterfront. This Mixed-Use Development is an integral part of the HBCRA’s Redevelopment Plan for the City of Hallandale Beach. It will help to geographically link several Integral Redevelopment Projects: The Food, Fashion, Art and Design District (FFADD) to the southeast, Artsquare to the East, Atlantic Village to the Northeast and eventually future Redevelopments for the Big Easy Casino Property to the North. “The vision for Hallandale City Center has been long in the making,” says City Manager and Executive Director of the HBCRA, Dr. Jeremy Earle. “Economic Development is a step-by-step process involving an integrated approach to Site selection, Transportation and determining the best Commercial Uses for the future of our City.” The HBCRA believes that Hallandale City Center will greatly enhance the emerging dynamics of the City by attracting a variety of residents from families to professionals and will also be an appealing Housing Alternative for current residents. < Previous News Next News >

  • Preserving Legacy Or Inviting Litigation - How Well-Meaning Estate Planning Language Can Either Preserve Family Harmony Or Become Evidence In Probate Court | sun-times

Preserving Legacy Or Inviting Litigation - How Well-Meaning Estate Planning Language Can Either Preserve Family Harmony Or Become Evidence In Probate Court By Merilee Kern, MBA Mar 26, 2026 As Wealth Transfers Accelerate And Multi-Generational Planning Becomes More Sophisticated, Families Are Increasingly Looking Beyond Traditional Wills And Trusts To Articulate Values, Purpose, And Long-Term Vision. One Tool Gaining Attention Is The Family Mission Statement. While Often Viewed As A Unifying Document Designed To Preserve Legacy And Harmony, Estate Litigation Attorney Don Ford Cautions That These Statements Carry Legal Implications That Families May Not Fully Appreciate. When Disputes Arise, Even Informal Writings Can Influence How Intent Is Interpreted In Court. Estate planning disputes rarely begin with bad intentions. According to Probate, Trust and Estate Planning Attorney Don Ford, Managing Partner at Ford + Bergner LLP, most probate and trust conflicts arise because family members disagree about what someone meant, what they wanted, or how much discretion a fiduciary was expected to exercise. Ford, a seasoned Probate and Trust Litigation Attorney, frequently speaks about the growing use of family mission statements in estate planning. While these documents are not legally binding in most jurisdictions, he explains that they can significantly influence how courts interpret intent when disputes arise. “A family mission statement can either clarify a legacy or complicate it,” Ford says. “It depends entirely on how it is drafted and whether it aligns with the governing estate documents.” A family mission statement typically outlines a family’s values, long term priorities, and philosophical approach to wealth. It may address stewardship, philanthropy, education expectations, work ethic, entrepreneurship, or the broader purpose behind trusts and multi-generational planning. Unlike a will or trust, it is generally informational rather than legally enforceable. However, Ford cautions that informational does not mean irrelevant. “In litigation, anything that sheds light on intent may become evidence,” he explains. “If a dispute involves discretionary distributions or fiduciary judgment, opposing parties often look for supporting language wherever they can find it.” When carefully coordinated with estate planning documents, family mission statements can reduce the likelihood of conflict. They can provide context for trustee decisions, clarify why distributions are structured a certain way, and help beneficiaries understand the reasoning behind unequal allocations. According to Ford, clarity often discourages litigation by managing expectations early. At the same time, poorly drafted statements can create problems. If the language contradicts a will or trust, beneficiaries may argue that the legally binding documents do not reflect the decedent’s true intent. Vague phrases such as treating everyone fairly or supporting family success can invite competing interpretations in court. “Ambiguity is the oxygen of litigation,” Ford notes. “The more room there is for interpretation, the greater the risk of dispute.” He also warns against attempting to impose moral or lifestyle directives through non-binding language. Beneficiaries may challenge fiduciaries who try to enforce expectations that lack legal authority, while others may accuse fiduciaries of ignoring stated family values. Generally speaking, family mission statements are not enforceable unless their provisions are formally incorporated into a valid will or trust. Even so, courts may consider them when evaluating fiduciary discretion or alleged breaches of duty. This makes alignment between the statement and the estate plan essential. Ford advocates what he calls litigation aware estate planning. “Estate planning is not just about transferring assets,” he says. “It is about anticipating human dynamics. If you understand how disputes unfold in court, you can draft documents that reduce the risk of conflict.” For families considering a mission statement, Ford recommends ensuring it aligns with all governing documents, clearly stating that it is non-binding, avoiding subjective language, and reviewing it periodically as circumstances change. “A thoughtful mission statement can strengthen a legacy,” Ford concludes. “But it must be drafted with precision and with an understanding of how it could be used in a courtroom.” About Merilee Kern, MBA Entrepreneur Leadership Network member Merilee Kern, MBA is an internationally-regarded brand and leadership strategist who reports on noteworthy industry change makers, movers, shakers and innovators across all B2B and B2C categories. Doctors and staff working together as a family dedicating themselves to providing patients in Hallandale Beach and surrounding areas with a full spectrum of treatments, including primary care, geriatrics, behavioral health, podiatry, and dental services. One of the major services offered by HG Doctors is primary care, a cornerstone of your healthcare. At Hallandale Medical Center, you have access to a team of highly skilled physicians offering comprehensive primary services to you and your family. Having a primary doctor with knowledge of your personal and family medical history is a crucial part of keeping up with your healthcare, and it’s only natural to want a doctor who is both compassionate, and knowledgeable of your history. An annual visit with a primary care physician who can conduct physical exams, laboratory testing, and other screenings can substantially help prevent and lower your risk of chronic disease. It is imperative to stay up to date with your health, even if you feel healthy. Even if you are currently seeing specialists, it’s critical that you have a primary doctor to keep all your medical records. An added benefit of having a primary care provider is that you can always reach out to them when you are feeling sick, even if it is after hours. If you are wondering, when is the right time to visit a doctor, the professionals at Hallandale Medical Center encourage you to come in for your routine wellness exam, preventative vaccines such as your flu shot, or anytime you may feel you are dealing with an illness. You can be sure that the doctors of this facility will go above and beyond to ensure you receive the treatment you deserve. Hallandale Medical Center also specializes in dental care.
