  • Cortadito Releases First Full-Length Album - A Captivating Musical Journey By The Award-Winning Cuban Folk Ensemble | sun-times

Cortadito Releases First Full-Length Album - A Captivating Musical Journey By The Award-Winning Cuban Folk Ensemble Aventura Digest Apr 24, 2025 The Guajiro Triangle Signifies The Cultural And Musical Convergence Of Three Iconic Cities: Miami, Havana And Santiago de Cuba. It’s From These Vibrant Locales That Cortadito, South Florida's Answer To Cuba’s Buena Vista Social Club, Has Drawn Its Inspiration – And Its Members. The Album Marks The Group’s First Full-Length Release Under Afro Roots Recordings, Solidifying Their Reputation As One Of The Region's Most Spirited And Sought-After Acts. With nine original compositions, The Guajiro Triangle takes listeners on a rich, sonic journey tracing Cuban Son's evolution – from its roots in Santiago de Cuba to its electrifying presence in Miami, with Havana serving as the essential bridge. The album opens with "Aquí Te Traigo Mi Son," a heartfelt homage featuring celebrated Cuban Pianist and Composer Michelle Fragoso. This vibrant track paints a vivid picture of the Son’s origins in the eastern Cuban countryside, setting the stage for the rest of the album’s exploration. Cortadito honors its Cuban heritage with powerful songs like the poignant opening single "A Yemayá," featuring Latin GRAMMY-Winning Flutist Nestor Torres. Inspired by Yemayá, the Yoruba Orisha of the ocean, this piece offers comfort and hope in challenging times. Another standout is "Guajira en la Madrugada," a Bolero Son collaboration with GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY Award-Winner Aymeé Nuviola, celebrating Cuba’s natural beauty. Diverging from the group’s two previous releases, the songwriting credit is shared among Band Co-Founder Julio Cesar Rodriguez, bassist Alberto Pantaleon’s father, Alberto Pantaleon Hernandez and Vocalists Humberto Upierre and his brother, Juan Upierre and Juan Carlos Valido. The album also embraces Cortadito’s big band format, featuring a septet recording lineup that includes Co-Founder Jose Elias (tres), Rodriguez, Pantaleon, Upierre, Antonio "Pacha" Portuondo, Andres Polanco (percussion) and Roniel Vega (trumpet), augmented by regulars Franklin Reytor (guitar, tres, vocals, arranger) and Tony Perigo Viant (trumpet). Love is a recurring theme throughout the album. Tracks like "Son Tus Besos," composed by Lead Vocalist Upierre, inject infectious energy with its modern take on Cuban Son. The playful lyrics celebrate the intoxicating magic of a passionate kiss. Meanwhile, "Te Lo Perdiste" explores the bittersweet longing for missed opportunities in life and love. Not afraid to push boundaries, Cortadito presents "Sin Fronteras," a musical glimpse into a world without borders, a celebration of unity and the freedom to pursue one’s dreams. The album also features lively party anthems like "Son Sabroso," which spotlights the Son's irresistible rhythms. Alongside powerhouse collaborations with Torres, Nuviola and Fragoso, the album also features guest artist Alaina Martin from Los Tres de la Habana. Produced by Elias and mixed by Carlos "El Loco" Bedoya; Beyoncé, Mick Jagger, Enrique Iglesias, Guillermo Rodriguez, and Kiki Valera, with mastering by Jose Blanco; Natalia Lafourcade, Grupo Niche, Aerosmith, The Guajiro Triangle boasts an impressive creative team. Cortadito invites listeners to embark on a captivating journey through the rich tapestry of Cuban Son. With its unique blend of tradition and innovation, this extraordinary release promises to leave audiences eager for more. Be sure to join the celebration at the album's release party on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, 6:00 p.m. at the Miami Beach Bandshell during the "Son Del Mundo" concert, featuring Albita, Lazaro Galaraga, DJ Le Spam and more. • Enhancing Cybersecurity - The AI Advantage | sun-times

Enhancing Cybersecurity - The AI Advantage By Merilee Kern, MBA Jul 22, 2025 In Today’s World Where Cyber Threats Are Becoming Increasingly Complex And Downright Relentless, The Application Of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Toward Cybersecurity Strategies Is A Welcome Advancement Helping Us Protect Our Digital Environments. Sophisticated machine learning algorithms and predictive analytics are empowering organizations to better predict, identify, mitigate and neutralize cyber threats quickly and far more accurately. “Cybersecurity is undergoing a paradigm shift, transitioning from threat reaction to threat prediction and prevention,” said Angel Vossough, Co-Founder and CEO of AI solutions developer BetterAI. “This change is set to be foundational to the industry, moving it toward security solutions that are more proactive than ever before.” Here’s a deeper dive with Vossough on how AI is enhancing cybersecurity and better safeguarding the collective digital landscape. What are some of the top-line impacts AI is having on the cybersecurity function? For one, the incorporation of AI into cybersecurity provides capabilities to detect and respond to active threats in real-time. AI is then also able to learn from these threats and identify vulnerabilities in systems before they are exploited. These abilities drastically reduce the time taken to identify and mitigate current and potential security breaches. Predictive security measures are already a long-standing aspect of modern cybersecurity practices. However, even the best human-based techniques are unable to catch all potential vulnerabilities in systems of ever-growing complexity and size. AI is the next evolution in the cybersecurity arms race. What are some of the challenges of integrating AI into cybersecurity methods? AI's superhuman skill in pattern recognition and mass data processing allows it to sift through vast amounts of data and pinpoint threats that may go unnoticed by human analysts. Whether detecting network intrusions or analyzing system behaviors to uncover vulnerabilities or malware, AI has a critical role to play. The need for AI in cybersecurity becomes even more pressing as cybercriminals increasingly adopt AI for their own malicious purposes. However, the integration of AI into cybersecurity protocols does present its own set of challenges. Biases hidden within the black box of deep learning models have the potential to create a new set of blind spots that may be challenging to detect and correct. For example, if an AI system is trained on data that predominantly features attacks from a specific geographic region, it may develop a bias that leads to a higher rate of false positives or false negatives when analyzing threats from other regions. Additionally, AI may have difficulty grasping the human motivations underlying certain cyberattacks, such as political, ideological, or personal factors that drive attackers. This limitation may negatively impact AI's predictive capabilities, as it may not be able to anticipate attacks that deviate from purely technical or financial motivations. Overcoming these obstacles requires an effort that combines the enormous power of AI with the social awareness and technical expertise of human cybersecurity and machine learning professionals. Can you cite a few AI cybersecurity solutions that are evolving in the space? The incorporation of AI into cybersecurity solutions represents a major leap forward in addressing the constantly evolving cyber threat landscape. Already we are seeing AI cybersecurity tools hit the market, including NVIDIA's Morpheus framework and IBM's Security QRadar suite. Incorporating AI into cybersecurity is not merely about improving security posture, it is an essential step in protecting our digital environment from sophisticated threats. The future is here, and the industry is undergoing a rapid change to adapt. AI's predictive capabilities enable organizations to proactively protect their networks and data from unauthorized access and exploitation. As the industry increasingly adopts AI-driven solutions, collaboration between AI experts and cybersecurity professionals is essential for developing robust, transparent, and responsible AI systems. Only through this collaborative approach can the full potential of AI be realized in creating a more secure digital environment for all. The incorporation of AI reshaping cybersecurity relative to the technology’s unparalleled ability to identify, address and rectify threats much more accurately and rapidly than ever before. AI-powered innovations are producing proactive and flexible cybersecurity systems capable of outpacing the ever-changing threat environment, fostering a much safer digital landscape. Previous Next

  • Women And The Intersection Of Heart, Kidney And Metabolic Health | sun-times

Women And The Intersection Of Heart, Kidney And Metabolic Health By Family Features Oct 16, 2025 Women may be unaware of their risk for Heart Disease, Kidney Disease and metabolic conditions like Diabetes, which drive risk for Cardiovascular Disease. Consider these facts women should know about Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic health, or CKM health, from the scientific experts at the American Heart Association. Cardiovascular Disease is the No. 1 Killer of Women Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), which includes Heart Disease and Stroke, affects nearly 45% of women ages 20 and older, and 1 in 3 will die from it. Women may experience symptoms uncommon in men. Chest pain is the most common heart attack symptom, but women are more likely than men to experience pain in the arms, jaw or neck, too. Early Action is Key Women with either Type 2 Diabetes or Chronic Kidney Disease are predicted to reach elevated risk for CVD 8-9 years earlier than women with neither condition. Risk Factors are Connected The health factors that comprise CKM syndrome are connected. They include high Blood Pressure, Abnormal Cholesterol, being overweight, High Blood Sugar and low kidney function. Pregnancy and Menopause Affect Women's CKM Health Pregnancy complications such as Preeclampsia, Gestational Diabetes and Gestational Hypertension are risk factors for future Chronic Kidney Disease and Cardiovascular Disease. Changes during Menopause also influence long-term heart and metabolic health. This includes declining Estrogen levels, increased body fat around the organs, increased Cholesterol levels and stiffening or weakening of Blood Vessels. Early Menopause (before age 45) is linked to a higher risk for Kidney Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and CVD. Social Factors Affect Women's Heart Health Negative economic, environmental and psychosocial factors are associated with lower levels of physical activity and healthy eating and higher levels of conditions like obesity and diabetes. Women should know their risk and advocate for their health by requesting thorough screenings that assess heart, kidney and metabolic health at regular medical check-ups.
