New Walk-In Orthopedic Clinic Brings X-Rays and Same-Day Treatment to Hallandale Beach

South Florida Sun Times

Oct 8, 2026

OrthoNOW, a walk-in orthopedic urgent care clinic with on-site X-Rays, has opened on Hallandale Beach Boulevard, giving locals a same-day option for everyday joint and muscle injuries and pain.

It happens in a second.

A student-athlete lands awkwardly at practice. Dad hurts his back in the garage. Grandma takes a fall.

Then come the pain, swelling and uncertainty - and a question almost everyone eventually asks:

Where should I go?

For many people, deciding where to go for orthopedic care can be confusing. Is this serious enough for the emergency room? Will a general urgent care help? Should I wait for an orthopedic appointment?

OrthoNOW was designed to make that decision easier. For non-life-threatening

joint and muscle injuries and pain, patients can walk into OrthoNOW for orthopedic evaluation, on-site X-rays when appropriate and initial treatment, which may include casting, splinting, bracing, injections, or a physical-therapy referral.

OrthoNOW Hallandale Beach opened in August at 1117 E. Hallandale Beach Blvd., near Gulfstream Park. Founded in 2012, OrthoNOW has served South Florida for 14 years, and the Hallandale Beach clinic brings the same walk-in orthopedic care offered across its other South Florida locations to a fourth community. The practice is built around a simple idea: orthopedic care should be easier to access, more specialized and less likely to lead to unnecessary cost, delay, or extra appointments.

Why Orthopedic Care Can Be Harder Than It Should Be

From a patient’s point of view, an orthopedic problem is usually simple: something hurts, and they want to know what happened and what to do next. The healthcare path can be less simple. Three issues show up again and again: cost, access, and fragmented care.

1. Cost depends where care starts

Where care starts can materially affect the total cost of an injury.

A study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons modeled orthopedic immediate care at roughly 40% of the healthcare cost of emergency-room care for the injuries studied.

The point is not that the ER is the wrong place; it is that the treatment setting should match the issue. Emergency departments are essential for serious and life-threatening conditions. But many everyday sprains, strains and joint or muscle pains can be evaluated and treated in a specialized, non-emergency orthopedic setting like OrthoNOW.

2. Wait times are a growing challenge

A recent Florida orthopedic workforce study noted that Florida added more than 2.6 million residents from 2010 to 2019 and had the third-highest share of residents age 65 and older in the country. Despite this growth, Florida has roughly one-third fewer orthopedic surgeons per resident than the national benchmark cited in the study (~6.2 orthopedic surgeons per 100,000 residents in FL vs. ~9.3 nationally).

That pressure can show up in appointment availability. In AMN Healthcare’s 2025 Survey of Physician Appointment Wait Times, new patients seeking an orthopedic surgeon in the Miami area waited an average of 19 days for an appointment.

At OrthoNOW, patients can walk in for same-day orthopedic evaluation and, when appropriate, on-site X-rays. A traditional specialist referral is generally not required to be seen, although individual insurance plan rules vary.

3. One injury shouldn’t require several appointments

General urgent care is designed to treat a wide range of conditions, from respiratory infections and cuts to many everyday illnesses and injuries. It is a critical access point for healthcare, but it is not built specifically around orthopedics. For some bone, joint or muscle problems, a general urgent care visit may end with stabilization and a referral to an orthopedic specialist for more specialized evaluation, imaging or treatment.

Orthopedic urgent care combines the convenience of urgent care with orthopedic-focused evaluation, imaging and treatment, including casting and fracture care when appropriate. At OrthoNOW, the goal is to manage and resolve as much as possible in-house in the first visit. Only those patients whose condition requires more advanced care are referred to a surgeon or other specialist.

A Patient’s Experience at OrthoNOW Hallandale Beach

“My experience was great. I got the attention I needed, and I’m leaving very happy with the outcome. I live close by, so having OrthoNOW here is very convenient.”

How OrthoNOW Is Built Differently

OrthoNOW was designed to make orthopedic care easier to access and more affordable. At the Hallandale Beach clinic, the approach comes down to three things:

ACCESS

Walk in or schedule ahead. Most patients do not need a referral to be seen, and OrthoNOW accepts most insurances including Medicare.

COST

Urgent care pricing. That typically means urgent care copays and rates rather than ER-level costs. Costs vary by insurance plan and services provided.

FEWER EXTRA STOPS

Evaluation, on-site X-rays when appropriate, and initial treatment in one visit. Care may include a cast or splint, injection, brace or boot, activity guidance, or physical-therapy referral.

The aim is to do as much as medically appropriate in the first visit so patients leave with answers, a treatment plan and, whenever possible, fewer extra stops for the same injury.

Common reasons to visit include sprains and strains, suspected fractures, sports and workplace injuries, shoulder, knee or back pain, arthritis flare-ups, and injuries after minor falls.

BARRY TANNER, President of OrthoNOW

“Nobody plans an injury, and nobody should have to wait weeks to find out what is wrong. Our role is to evaluate the problem, begin appropriate care and help the patient understand what comes next, today!”

OrthoNOW Is Growing

Across South Florida

The OrthoNOW Hallandale Beach opening is part of a broader expansion of the model. Founded in 2012, OrthoNOW is focused on expanding access to orthopedic care outside of the emergency room and the traditional appointment-based specialty pathway.

“Our goal is to be the first place people think of when a joint or muscle problem happens,” said Jake Freeman, Director of Growth at OrthoNOW. “We want to reduce unnecessary ER visits, long waits and costly extra appointments by making orthopedic care more accessible and affordable.”

Today OrthoNOW has four South Florida locations including Doral, Coconut Grove, Biscayne (near NE 70th St), and Hallandale Beach, with a fifth clinic in Fort Lauderdale expected to open soon.

Orthopedic Care

for Every Stage of Life

Orthopedic problems do not belong to one age group. OrthoNOW sees children and student-athletes, working adults (workers’ compensation), active adults and older adults dealing with falls, fractures, arthritis, and joint pain. The clinic also treats non-emergency pain that did

not begin with one clear injury, such as persistent shoulder, knee, back or wrist pain, giving patients a place to start when they are not sure what to do next.

Know When the Emergency

Room Is the Right Choice

Orthopedic urgent care is not a replacement for emergency medical care. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department for chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of a stroke, severe or uncontrolled bleeding, loss of consciousness or confusion, an open fracture or visible bone, major head, neck or spine trauma, or any injury or condition that appears life-threatening.

Consider OrthoNOW for:

• Sprains and strains

• Possible closed fractures

• Sports and workplace injuries

• Joint or muscle pain

(chronic and acute)

• Arthritis flare-ups

• Minor falls without emergency warning signs
