- Don’t Get Caught Up with the Crowd
Don’t Get Caught Up with the Crowd By Bryan Golden May 26, 2022 Share Many problems we have could be avoided or minimized if more people refused to follow the crowd. Group behavior often instills fear and panic as it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Regardless of reality, the crowd is led with false premises. They then behave as if what they are being told is true. As a result, their actions transform the alleged circumstances into reality. For example, there are reports that a specific bank might be having financial problems. In fact, there is no truth to the rumors. Nevertheless, its customers panic, causing a run on the bank. Now the bank does have monetary difficulties. Crowd mentality is a powerful force that sweeps up many as it builds momentum. However, crowd mentality is rarely grounded in logic or reasonable thinking. Group think assimilates individuals who, by themselves, normally aren't governed by fear. One major contributing factor to the crowd mentality is media hysteria. The media's choice of words when reporting on events has a huge impact. Subjective descriptions are used to evoke a specific reaction. When the headlines are dire, the crowd behaves accordingly. A negative group mindset is as contagious as an Epidemic. Individuals are subjected to peer pressure. They are chastised for any contrarian views. Mob psychology has impacted us throughout history. People caught up in a crowd mentality accept what they are told without questioning its validity. The result is a few controlling many. Just watch how a few sheepdogs can direct a herd of hundreds of sheep. People will behave as part of the crowd in ways they would never imagine were they acting independently. You want to guard against being pulled into the crowd. Although it’s tempting to go along with the flow, resistance is worth the effort. Giving up your individuality carries too high of a price. There are some simple steps you can take to avoid getting caught up with the crowd. You don’t have to participate in any mass hysteria. You are in control of your thoughts and actions. Think for yourself. Ask questions. What is the source of the information you are getting and what is the bias? Also, is there any hidden agenda? What works for others isn’t necessarily right for you. You need not follow along just because someone else is behaving in a particular fashion. Consider your own situation and beliefs. What makes sense for you is the essential issue. For example, let’s consider the economy. Historically, its fluctuations are cyclic. Perhaps there is a downturn and the crowd is yelling that the sky is falling. However, you have an income and are OK financially. Why should you change your behavior and go along with the crowd? What about a situation where the opposite exists? The crowd is gushing about a surging economy. Yet, you have lost your job and are struggling. In this case, you must tailor your actions to accommodate your situation. What others say or think about you doesn’t matter. Your life shouldn’t be structured to seek approval. You are responsible for your actions along with the results. You can’t blame anyone else for what you do. The excuse, “everyone else was doing it” doesn’t have any validity. When you follow the crowd, you abdicate your free will. The risk is doing things you may regret. Your behavior may then also exacerbate your own situation, making problems worse. Crowd behavior and attitude is often negative. By getting caught up in it, you get pulled down. Stay independent, remain positive and follow your own path. You will be happier and accomplish more! - Helping Your Pet With Separation Anxiety
Helping Your Pet With Separation Anxiety September 12, 2024 Share If you have ever lived in a household alongside a pet that excessively howls, scratches at the door, or exhibits an overall sense of panic when a loved one leaves the home, it can be beneficial to speak with a veterinarian about the potential diagnosis of separation anxiety. Dr. Lori Teller, a Clinical Professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, unpacks the actions linked to separation anxiety with methods of how to alleviate the pet’s stress and behavioral responses associated with it. Unwelcome Changes Separation anxiety occurs when an animal — most commonly a dog, though some cats may experience this type of Anxiety as well — becomes upset due to being apart from their owner or any individual to whom the pet has grown attached. While Anxiety, in general, has many triggers and is frequently multifactorial, Teller said there are specific life-events or experiences that may contribute to a dog’s development of separation anxiety, including: • Abandonment when young • Poor socialization, especially when young • Lack of training to be left alone and to entertain itself • Divorce of a family member • Death of a family member • Sudden change in work or school schedules According to Teller, a dog’s personality may also contribute to Separation Anxiety, as some dogs may be naturally more clingy than others. Stage-Five Clinger Because anxiety looks different for every pet, it is important to differentiate excitement or a lack of training from Anxiety. Several identifiable canine behaviors that signal Separation Anxiety are: • Pacing • Whining • Shaking • Excessive barking, drooling, or panting • Destructive behavior, including digging out of the yard, or urinating and defecating in the house Cats also experience Stress when there are major changes in their lives or in the household, but they express it differently. Signs that a Cat is experiencing separation anxiety may include: • Urinating in inappropriate locations • Lack of appetite • Loud, excessive meowing If you have concerns about behaviors your pet is displaying, Teller says it’s important to discuss those with your veterinarian. Videos of the behavior can be helpful in determining what is going on. Prescribed Chill Pills Teller says treating separation anxiety requires more than a little “chill pill.” “Medications alone will not resolve separation anxiety,” Teller said. “There are a variety of medications that are used to help alleviate anxiety and make it easier to institute a behavior modification plan. “Your veterinarian will work with you to create a behavior modification plan to help eliminate undesirable behaviors and replace them with more appropriate ones,” she said. Another way to help your pet is that when you know a big change is coming, helping them prepare by introducing activities to their routine also may help prevent Anxiety when that big change eventually comes. “Prevention is key, and there are a variety of things that can be done to help prevent Separation Anxiety in pets,” Teller said. “Pets need to learn that it is OK to be alone and to entertain themselves, even when someone is home.” Introducing puzzle toys, food-stuffed toys, and long-lasting chews are options that can help to replace that comfort person with a comfort item. And for sense-based comfort, playing the radio and keeping consistent pheromone diffusers in use can create a safe and recognizable space without their favorite human by their side. According to Teller, another method to potentially reduce Anxiety is to encourage your pet to exercise and release some energy prior to leaving for your day at school or work. A long walk or run or game of fetch may do. Through exercise, a dog trades morning stress-filled yelps with a morning nap instead. Comfort In Confinement Finally, when dealing with an anxious dog, crates can offer an enclosed sense of security in their distress. “When putting a dog in a crate, use lots of praise and make sure the dog has a puzzle toy or chew treat when it goes into the crate,” Teller said. “As a dog feels more comfortable, you can gradually increase the amount of space it has access to — moving from the crate to a room and then hopefully to most of the house. It is important that a dog learns from early on that a crate is a safe place. Some dogs may not be amenable to crate training until their separation Anxiety has lessened.” Likewise, cats also need safe places, though usually not crates. These safe spaces can include a room with perches at different levels or nooks where they can hide, Teller says. “If you notice a change in your dog’s or cat’s behavior, speak with your veterinarian, have a complete physical done, and be sure to let your veterinarian know that there have been changes in the pet’s lifestyle or household,” Teller said. It is important to recognize that separation anxiety is a medical condition and needs to be treated appropriately. By encouraging your pet’s independence, and working with a veterinarian, as necessary, owners can help instill in their beloved companions behaviors that allow them to thrive on their own. - Doctor My Eyes – A Tribute To Jackson Browne - A Soulful Celebration of an Icon Comes to Aventura Arts & Cultural Center | sun-times
Doctor My Eyes – A Tribute To Jackson Browne - A Soulful Celebration of an Icon Comes to Aventura Arts & Cultural Center Aventura Digest Sep 5, 2025 There Are Tribute Bands, And Then There Are Experiences — Those Rare Musical Moments Where The Line Between Homage And Heartfelt Embodiment Blurs Into Something Utterly Unforgettable. That’s Exactly What You Can Expect When Doctor My Eyes – A Tribute To Jackson Browne Takes The Stage At The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center On Friday, October 10th, 2025, At 8:00 p.m. This Isn’t Just A Concert — It’s A Time Machine To The Golden Era Of American Singer - Songwriters, Where Heart Met Harmony, And Lyrics Told Stories That Felt Like Your Own. If you’ve ever closed your eyes and let Jackson Browne’s music wash over you - the poetic melancholy of "Late for the Sky," the raw energy of "Running on Empty," or the reflective brilliance of "The Pretender" - then you’ll want to witness what fans across the country are calling the most authentic tribute to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer on the road today. More Than a Tribute—An Emotional Journey At the heart of this incredible show is Hayden Greyson, a stunning performer whose likeness to Jackson Browne in his ‘70s prime is uncanny—but it’s the voice that truly stuns. Close your eyes, and you’ll swear you’re hearing Browne himself. From the piercing honesty of "Doctor My Eyes" to the wistful glow of "Tender is the Night," Hayden doesn't just perform the songs—he lives them, channeling their emotional depth and nuance with breathtaking accuracy. Having graced the stages of iconic venues like the Count Basie Theatre and B.B. King’s Blues Club, Hayden brings the same impassioned delivery to every show. Florida audiences have already embraced his performances with sold-out enthusiasm, and Aventura is next in line to be captivated. A Band of Heavy Hitters What makes Doctor My Eyes so special isn’t just Hayden’s lead—it's the all-star ensemble that surrounds him. Each musician brings decades of experience, soul, and authenticity to the stage: Meredith Corsillo, a powerhouse New York-based session singer, adds percussion and background vocals reminiscent of Rosemary Butler and Bonnie Raitt. Her harmonies elevate every chorus and bring that essential Jackson Browne richness to the forefront. Cisco Colet brings emotional depth and texture with every note on acoustic, electric, and slide guitar. A veteran of London’s music scene, Cisco taps into the spirit of Browne’s longtime collaborator David Lindley, re-creating those unforgettable lap steel moments with reverent finesse. Tommy Tennies, with a career rooted in classic rock and R&B, fills the air with lush keyboard textures and vintage B3 organ swells. With 15 years on the Las Vegas Strip and multiple bands under his belt, Tommy adds a layer of musical authenticity that defines the show’s sonic backbone. On bass, Rudy Pagliuca is more than a rhythm man - he’s a Latin GRAMMY Award-winning producer whose work with the Latin rock band Malanga has earned international acclaim. His dynamic, melodic playing breathes fresh life into each track, honoring the original while adding new color. Rounding out the rhythm section is Jay Wood, a versatile drummer with over four decades of live performance experience. Having opened for legends like The Charlie Daniels Band and Bret Michaels, Jay's drumming is both grounded and expressive, keeping the engine of this musical machine running at full tilt. A setlist that reads like a greatest hits album, expect all the classics and fan favorites: "Doctor My Eyes," "The Pretender," "Running on Empty," "Here Come Those Tears Again," "Take It Easy," "Somebody’s Baby," "That Girl Could Sing," "Stay," "Tender is the Night," "Late for the Sky," "Fountain of Sorrow" and many more. (Setlist may vary.) Each song is presented with a deep reverence for the source material and a performance quality that elevates it into something larger than nostalgia - it becomes a living, breathing celebration of Jackson Browne’s legacy. More Than Music - A Shared Experience Whether you're a lifelong fan who wore out your vinyl copy of The Pretender, or someone discovering Jackson Browne's magic for the first time, Doctor My Eyes offers an experience that connects. It’s music for the soul, performed by artists who genuinely get it —the poetry, the emotion, the craftsmanship. And let’s not forget: this isn’t just a concert, it’s a gathering. Spritz Into Spring: The Ultimate Guide To Happy Hours In SoFlo April 18, 2024 Share Happy Hour originated in the early 20th century in the U.S. Sailors in the Navy used the term to describe a period of entertainment, often involving boxing matches and other leisure activities. - U.S. Medicare Info Helping Seniors With Medicare Programs Throughout Florida
U.S. Medicare Info Helping Seniors With Medicare Programs Throughout Florida PROFILES By David L. Snelling April 24, 2022 Share For almost five years, U.S. Medicare Info has been helping senior’s in South Florida get coverage for health and drug services not covered by Original Medicare from the government. US Medicare Info. is lead by Steven Hulnick, Owner of Hulnick Insurance Inc. Hulnick is a contracted agent for many of the insurance companies that have expanded coverage to seniors on Medicare to close the gap including, United Health Care the AARP Program, Medica, Preferred Care Partners, Aetna, Humana, Well Care and Silver Script. Hulnick, 48, said the problem stems from the government covering 80 percent of Medicare patients' costs and doesn't offer a drug plan. "As a broker, I work with private insurance companies that offer Medicare insurance supplement programs to cover the balance of what the government doesn't provide," he said. "People call me very confused because of the process. They reach out for assistance and I guide them in the right direction. I consider myself an advocate for seniors." Licensed to do business in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Arizona and soon to be in Michigan. Hulnick said he's ranked in the top two percent of selling agents in the U.S. Hulnick, a native of New York, said his agents working for him are also licensed to do business in those states. To assist seniors, Hulnick said his team first helps clients enrolled in the government's Medicare plan and then can guide them to sign up for the Medicare Supplement programs with private insurance companies to round out coverage and make them complete. He said he doesn't charge seniors for helping them. "No salary, just a fee paid directly from the insurance company," he said. Previously, Hulnick has over 20 years of insurance experience, selling Health, Life, Property and Casualty insurances. Hulnick spends his time concentrating on Medicare because he enjoys being a resource to the community while building a successful business. "I tell my clients, I am lucky to be able to build a business while helping people," he said. Hulnick said trust with his clients has become the source of their relationship which helps attract and retain customers. He said his clients can always depend on him and rely on his expertise and trusting advice. "People call me because they are concerned and scared of the process," he said. "I come in with a helping hand and nurture them through the process. He added: "By doing right by my clients, I receive referrals from neighbors and family members throughout the country. They call me because of the trust that I build." Hulnick said he has transitioned to working remotely due to COVID which hasn't slowed his business down. He said now he communicates through conference calls, Zoom and emails to get clients signed up through electronic email applications and voice recorded technologies. Selling insurance wasn't Hulnick's first career. A graduate of Johnson Wales University's main campus in Providence, Rhode Island, Hulnick worked in the advertising industry for Grey Advertising in New York. He said his clients included Six Flags Theme Park, Seagram, Captain Morgan and Crown Royal. Hulnick said he met his wife, Elissa Pearl Hulnick, while working in New York and they moved to Florida, where she graduated from the University of Miami School of Law and he earned his MBA at Nova Southeastern University.
