The Gift of Love: The New Book ‘Committed’ Helps Readers Cultivate Lasting Relationships December 23, 2021 Share Stories of flawless families and perfect romances fill social media feeds and TV screens year round, but during the holiday season in particular, these idyllic narratives can trigger feelings of loneliness in those still searching for that special someone. Here to help readers discard preconceived notions, reconsider unrealistic expectations and truly understand people and personalities that work well together is world-renowned Psychologist Dr. Carmen Harra. “Commitment can’t be forced, scheduled or altered. In Committed, Dr. Harra, Co-author and daughter, Alexandra Harra, who is a certified relationship coach, explain the seven main archetypes we all encounter, the promises they hold and the challenges they pose to relationships. The first part of Committed is devoted to the work we need to do on the inside and readers will learn how to reexamine core beliefs they hold, clear karmic patterns, heal any emotional trauma, liberate themselves from people who no longer serve them and develop an unshakable sense of self-worth. The second half of the book teaches readers how to identify archetypes in others and themselves, navigate the world of online dating, build emotional intimacy, mediate external influences and apply real-world solutions to resolve relationship problems. Ultimately, Committed aims to help you find and keep the love you deserve: an authentic, impassioned relationship that fills you with excitement each morning and puts your mind at ease every night. - Vishal & Sheykhar: “The Superhit Tour” | sun-times
Vishal & Sheykhar: “The Superhit Tour” South Florida Sun Times Jul 2, 2026 As One Of Bollywood’s Most Iconic Music Composer Duos, Vishal & Sheykhar Have Helped Shape The Sound Of Modern Indian Cinema Through More Than 350 Films, 72 Number-One Singles, And Over 3 Billion Global Streams. Their Catalog Includes Fan-Favorite Hits Like “Desi Girl,” “Bang Bang,” “Sheila Ki Jawani,” “Ghungroo,” “Manwa Laage,” And “Jhoome Jo Pathaan,” Songs That Have Become Part Of Weddings, Parties, College Years, Family Celebrations, And Cultural Memories For Fans Around The World And They Will Be Performing In Hollywood At Hard Rock Live On Sunday, July 26Th, 2026 As Part Of “The Superhit Tour,” Bringing More Than 25 Years Of Bollywood Hits To U.S. Stages This July And August. Ahead of their 2026 U.S. run of “The Superhit Tour,” Vishal & Sheykhar reflect on the emotional connection fans have built with their music over more than 25 years. In the following approved Q&A, the duo discusses the memories attached to their songs, the multigenerational energy of North American audiences, how they shape a live concert experience, and what fans can expect when the tour comes to U.S. stages this summer. Q: Your music has become tied to so many personal moments for fans, from weddings and college years to road trips, heartbreak, parties, and family celebrations. When you build a live show, how do you decide what emotional journey to take the audience on? A: That’s exactly how we think about it, an emotional journey. Our songs have become part of people’s lives at different stages, so a concert isn’t just about playing hits one after another. We want audiences to relive memories, celebrate the present, and create new ones together. The show moves through different emotions, joy, nostalgia, romance, celebration, and pure energy, because that’s how people have experienced our music over the years. Q: Vishal & Sheykhar’s music now reaches multiple generations of listeners. Are you seeing younger fans connect with the songs differently than people who grew up with them when they first came out? A: Absolutely. What’s fascinating is that younger fans often discover songs through streaming, reels, or playlists rather than the films themselves. They connect with the music in their own way. Meanwhile, people who grew up with the songs have memories attached to them. Seeing both generations sing the same song together is incredibly special because it shows that music can travel far beyond its original moment. Q: When you hear thousands of people singing your songs back to you outside India, especially in North America, what goes through your mind? A: Gratitude, first and foremost. It’s a reminder that music doesn’t recognize borders. Many people in the audience have carried these songs with them through different countries, different phases of life, and different generations. When thousands of voices come together, it’s a powerful reminder of how deeply music can connect people. Q: After more than 25 years, what does a Vishal & Sheykhar concert mean to you today? A: Today, it feels like a celebration of a shared journey. The songs belong as much to the audience as they do to us. Every concert is an opportunity to reconnect with fans who have supported our music for years and to welcome new listeners into that experience. That connection is what keeps it exciting after all this time. Q: Fans come expecting the greatest hits, but your catalog is so vast. How do you balance nostalgia with bringing newer music and fresh moments into the show? A: The hits are essential because people have emotional relationships with them. At the same time, we never want the experience to feel predictable. We constantly rethink arrangements, transitions, visuals, and the flow of the show. The goal is to honor the songs people love while making them feel fresh and exciting in a live setting. Q: When you take a studio song to the stage with a full live band and large-scale production, what usually changes to make it work in a live concert setting? A: Energy becomes the priority. In the studio, a song can be very detailed and intimate. On stage, it needs to connect instantly with thousands of people. We often expand sections, create musical moments that encourage audience participation, and give the musicians room to bring their own energy. The song evolves into something larger than the recording. Q: Is there a song in your catalog that surprised you by becoming such a long-lasting crowd favorite in concert? A: There have been quite a few. Sometimes the songs you expect to be huge live moments are exactly that, and sometimes a song takes on a life of its own over the years. What surprises us most is when songs continue to find new audiences decades after they were released. That longevity is something you can never predict. Q: You’re returning to the U.S. in 2026 with additional cities following last year’s sold-out run. How does performing in a new city change the energy or approach of the show? A: Every city has its own personality. The audience might share a common love for the music, but the energy in the room is always unique. We pay attention to that and feed off it. The core of the show remains the same, but every concert develops its own character because the audience shapes the experience. Q: Your catalog has become part of weddings, parties, playlists, films, and family memories for so many South Asian fans. Do fans ever share stories with you that change the way you think about a song? A: All the time. Fans tell us about songs that played at weddings, helped them through difficult periods, reminded them of loved ones, or connected them to home while living abroad. Those stories are incredibly moving because they remind us that once music is released, it becomes part of people’s lives in ways we could never imagine while creating it. Q: North American audiences bring together fans who grew up with your music in India, fans raised in the diaspora, and younger listeners discovering the songs in new ways. What feels special about performing for that kind of crowd? A: It’s one of the most unique experiences as performers. You can look out into the audience and see multiple generations singing together. Some people remember the songs from when they were first released, while others are hearing them through a completely different lens. That diversity creates an incredible atmosphere and reinforces the idea that great music can connect people across time and place. Q: If someone wanted to understand the evolution of Bollywood music through Vishal & Sheykhar’s work, which songs would you point them to and why? A: We’d probably point them to songs from different eras because each represents a moment in our creative journey. From energetic anthems and romantic ballads to contemporary pop-influenced tracks and large-scale cinematic songs, the catalog reflects the evolution of Bollywood music. More than any individual song, it’s the variety that tells the story. Q: For fans coming to “The Superhit Tour” in 2026, what do you hope they feel when they leave the concert? A: We hope they leave feeling uplifted, energized, and connected. We want them to relive memories, create new ones, and experience the joy of singing together with thousands of people. If they walk away with a smile, a few unforgettable moments, and the feeling that they were part of something special, then we’ve done our job. Vishal & Sheykhar bring more than 25 years of Bollywood hits to Greater Fort Lauderdale this July at Hard Rock Live. “The goal of this show is to honor the songs people love while making them feel fresh and exciting in a live setting.” Vishal & Sheykhar For more information, visit: https://casino.hardrock.com/hollywood/entertainment/hard-rock-live "After more than 25 years, it feels like a celebration of a shared journey." - Americans Should Not Be Silenced: To The Founders, All of America Was A Free Speech Zone
Americans Should Not Be Silenced: To The Founders, All of America Was A Free Speech Zone By John & Nisha Whitehead September 29, 2022 Share “We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.” — Abraham Lincoln. In America today, the government does whatever it wants, freedom be damned. “We the people” have been terrorized, traumatized, and tricked into a semi-permanent state of compliance by a government that cares nothing for our lives or our liberties. The bogeyman’s names and faces have changed over time, but the end result remains the same: in the so-called name of national security, the Constitution has been steadily chipped away at, undermined, eroded, whittled down, and generally discarded with the support of Congress, the White House, and the courts. What we are left with today is but a shadow of the robust document adopted more than two centuries ago. Sadly, most of the damage has been inflicted upon the Bill of Rights. Here is what it means to live under the Constitution, twenty-plus years after 9/11 and with the nation just emerging from two years of COVID-19 lockdowns and mandates. The First Amendment is supposed to protect the freedom to speak your mind, assemble and protest nonviolently without being bridled by the government. It also protects the freedom of the media, as well as the right to worship and pray without interference. In other words, Americans should not be silenced by the government. To the founders, all of America was a free speech zone. Despite these clear protections, Americans are being persecuted for challenging government corruption. The Second Amendment was intended to give the citizenry the means to resist tyrannical government. Yet while gun ownership has been recognized by the U.S. Supreme Court as an individual citizen right, Americans remain powerless to defend themselves against red flag gun laws, militarized police, SWAT team raids, and government agencies armed to the teeth with military weapons better suited to the battlefield. The Third Amendment prohibits the military from entering any home without “the consent of the owner.” With the police increasingly training like the military, acting like the military, and posing as military forces—complete with heavily armed SWAT teams, military weapons, assault vehicles, etc. - it is clear that we now have what the founders feared most - a standing army on American soil. The Fourth Amendment ensures privacy and bodily integrity. Unfortunately, the Fourth Amendment has been all but eviscerated by an unwarranted expansion of governmental police and surveillance powers. The Fifth Amendment and the Sixth Amendment work in tandem. These amendments supposedly ensure that you are innocent until proven guilty, and government authorities cannot deprive you of your life, your liberty or your property without the right to an attorney and a fair trial before a civilian judge. However, in the new suspect society in which we live, where surveillance is the norm, these fundamental principles have been upended. Certainly, if the government can arbitrarily freeze, seize or lay claim to your property (money, land or possessions) under government asset forfeiture schemes, you have no true rights. The Seventh Amendment guarantees citizens the right to a jury trial. Yet when the populace has no idea of what’s in the Constitution, that inevitably translates to an ignorant jury incapable of distinguishing justice and the law from their own preconceived notions and fears. However, as a growing number of citizens are coming to realize, the power of the jury to nullify the government’s actions - and thereby help balance the scales of justice - is not to be underestimated. Jury nullification reminds the government that “we the people” retain the power to ultimately determine what laws are just. The Eighth Amendment is supposed to protect the rights of the accused and forbid the use of cruel and unusual punishment. However, the Supreme Court’s determination that what constitutes “cruel and unusual” should be dependent on the “evolving standards of decency that mark the progress of a maturing society” leaves us with little protection in the face of a society lacking in morals altogether. The Ninth Amendment provides that other rights not enumerated in the Constitution are nonetheless retained by the people. Popular sovereignty - the belief that the power to govern flows upward from the people rather than downward from the rulers - is clearly evident in this amendment. However, it has since been turned on its head by a centralized federal government that sees itself as supreme and which continues to pass more and more laws that restrict our freedoms under the pretext that it has an “important government interest” in doing so. As for the Tenth Amendment’s reminder that the people and the states retain every authority that is not otherwise mentioned in the Constitution, that assurance of a system of government in which power is divided among local, state and national entities has long since been rendered moot by the centralized Washington, DC, power elite—the president, Congress and the courts. Thus, if there is any sense to be made from this recitation of freedoms lost, it is simply this: our individual freedoms have been eviscerated so that the government’s powers could be expanded. It was no idle happenstance that the Constitution opens with these three powerful words: “We the people.” As the Preamble proclaims: We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this CONSTITUTION for the United States of America. In other words, it’s our job to make the government play by the rules of the Constitution. Here’s an idea to get educated and take a stand for freedom: anyone who signs up to become a member of The Rutherford Institute gets a wallet-sized Bill of Rights card and a Know Your Rights card. Use this card to teach your children the freedoms found in the Bill of Rights. As I point out in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, “we the people” have the power to make and break the government. Imagine what we could accomplish if we actually worked together, presented a united front, and spoke with one voice. Tyranny wouldn’t stand a chance. - Conference In New Orleans: Combating Antisemitism And Commemorating October 7th | sun-times
Conference In New Orleans: Combating Antisemitism And Commemorating October 7th By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper Dec 2, 2025 As I Am Preparing To Attend A Conference In New Orleans With Mayors From Around The Country, I Can Now Write And Release Information About The Event. Sadly, Details Have Been Under Strict Security Measures Until Recently Due To The Continued Growth In Antisemitism. I was actually invited a few months ago to attend this year’s annual Combatting Antisemitism Movement Summit by the immediate past Israel Counsel General of Miami. With the increase in antisemitic acts since October 7th they have been keenly focused internationally and here in the states urging the importance of calling out hate in today’s world. Antisemitism remains a grave challenge in many societies, manifesting in prejudice, discrimination, and violence against Jewish communities. The conference in New Orleans is bringing together Mayors, scholars, and leaders from diverse backgrounds to address these issues. For two days, we will share our recent experiences and shared strategies for creating a greater understanding of root causes of hatred and ways to change mindsets. Our shared goal remained sharing tools and strategies to counter hate and promote inclusivity. Key topics will include the history of antisemitism, the role of education in prevention, promoting interfaith dialogue, and leveraging social media for positive change. The conference is aimed to equip participants with tools and networks to continue the fight against antisemitism in their communities. During the trip, I will share what measures Hallandale Beach has implemented since October 7th. Our City Manager and Chief of Police has remained vigilant in addressing safety and security at our houses of worship. We have had a few incidents. While none have been violent, they still have been unsettling. Our commission has been vocal advocates both from the dais and through social media against hate and misinformation. To show support of Israel, we adopted a sister city, Sderot which was one of the cities and areas hardest hit by the brutal attacks on October 7th. Commissioner Annabelle Lima Taub facilitated this relationship. We hosted an Arts show from the children of Sderot and a memorial for all the victims of this brutal attack. The art was a therapeutic exercise for the children that experience the attacks. Last year, I asked that we consider naming a street after Sderot and placing a memorial plaque in memory of October 7th. After receiving approvals a date for this special event has been scheduled on Thursday, January 15th. Due to security, we have a limited amount of seats available and the specific details of the event will only be released to those that have rsvp. This street's renaming is symbolic, representing both a literal and figurative path towards unity and progress. Such dedications often serve as public reminders of the values a community holds dear and also reinforced that the horrific unprovoked attack on the State of Israel will not be forgotten. The ceremony is expected to bring together local officials, community members, and representatives from various organizations. It will highlight the significance of the street. This trip to New Orleans promises to be both meaningful and impactful, combining the urgent work of combating antisemitism with the honoring of historical events and community milestones. Through participation in the conference and attendance at the dedication ceremonies, I hope to contribute to a broader movement of remembrance, education, and positive change. As always, I am available anytime for your questions, concerns, and ideas to make our city a better place at phone/text 954-632-5700 or you can email me at jcooper@cohb.org . - Role Revolution: Florida Managers Identify 3 AI Careers Expected To Boom Locally | sun-times
Role Revolution: Florida Managers Identify 3 AI Careers Expected To Boom Locally South Florida Sun Times Jun 11, 2025 While Much Of The Public Conversation Around AI Fixates On Job Loss, A Quieter - And More Optimistic - Shift Is Underway. Across The Country, New Career Paths Are Emerging Not In Opposition To AI, But In tandem With It. These Aren’t Science Fiction Roles Of The Distant Future; They’re Already Being Hired For Today, Often Far From Silicon Valley. A survey of 3,003 decision makers by Snowfire, an adaptive decision intelligence AI platform for decision makers and executive leaders, pinpointed the specific AI-forward careers expected to boom locally in Florida. The top 3 are: 1. Conversational AI Designer With Florida’s massive tourism and hospitality sectors embracing automation, companies similar to Disney, Universal, and major cruise lines are turning to AI to elevate customer service. Conversational AI designers work behind the scenes to create virtual assistants, chatbot experiences, and voice interfaces that actually sound human. Whether it’s helping a guest book a ride, reorder room service, or navigate an airport terminal, these pros shape digital interactions that feel smooth, not scripted. 2. AI-Augmented Disaster Response Analyst In a state where Hurricanes are a seasonal reality, AI is playing a bigger role in keeping people safe. At agencies akin to the Florida Division of Emergency Management or NextEra Energy, analysts use predictive models to track storm paths, estimate damage zones, and coordinate faster relief efforts. It’s a role that blends meteorology, logistics, and machine learning - all aimed at protecting lives and Infrastructure before the winds even hit. 3. Smart Marine Systems Technician With Florida’s extensive coastline and booming maritime industries, AI is diving into the blue economy. Ports, fisheries, and environmental groups are hiring technicians to work with underwater drones, AI-enhanced sonar, and smart buoys that monitor ocean health, track vessels, or detect red tide outbreaks. Think Marine Biology meets robotics - and it’s happening everywhere from Tampa Bay to the Keys. AI in the Broader Workplace The study also explored how businesses are adapting internally. Nearly one in three organizations (29%) now report having a Chief AI Officer - a role that didn’t exist a few years ago. And AI is leaving a measurable financial mark: • 26% of managers say AI has improved productivity • 25% point to enhanced customer satisfaction • 23% cite cost reductions • 13% note revenue growth • 12% see gains in risk or compliance management Despite these benefits, challenges remain. When asked about barriers to transformation, 25% of leaders cited a shortage of skilled talent, and an equal number pointed to cultural resistance within their organizations. Budget limitations (21%), poor strategic alignment (15%), and unclear ROI (14%) also held companies back. Tech budgets are gradually shifting: on average, 15% of annual spend is now earmarked for AI-related Infrastructure. But many leaders still worry about knowledge gaps at the top. Just 15% of C-suite teams are described as having a “deep understanding and regular use” of AI, while 22% fall into the “very low” category. Looking ahead, executives believe AI will most significantly reshape the roles of CEOs (29%) and CFOs (27%), with CTOs, CMOs, and CHROs close behind. “AI isn’t wiping out work - it’s reshaping it. What we’re seeing is a nationwide pivot toward roles that pair human creativity with machine intelligence. The smartest organizations are already hiring for this future, not waiting to catch up,” says Greg Genung, CEO & Founder of Snowfire. - Can Money Buy Happiness? More Than Half Of Americans Say Yes In New Study
Can Money Buy Happiness? More Than Half Of Americans Say Yes In New Study By BPT January 11, 2024 Share How much money would make you happy? According to the average American, the price tag comes in around $1.2 Million. New research from Empower, a leader in financial planning, investing and advice, reveals 6 in 10 Americans believe money can buy happiness, though just 17% say financial contentment is about reaching a certain net worth. It turns out that a little goes a long way and incremental financial wins can make a massive impact on Americans' Well-Being. "Every generation has grappled with questions of how to calculate financial happiness: hard work, a lot of planning, consistent savings, and even a little bit of luck, in just the right measures," says Carol Waddell, President of Empower Personal Wealth. "A spirit of financial confidence prevails, with 7 in 10 saying they have clear financial goals and Americans continue to envision a bright future." The Financials Of Happiness While the study found that 7 in 10 Americans (71%) believe more money would solve most of their problems, for a third (32%) a relatively attainable gain of $15,000 would make a meaningful impact in their lives, boosting their feeling of financial happiness for six months. That number surges to 42% with a $25,000 gain, and just $5,000 would do it for 17%. Indeed, happiness manifests in big and small ways. The majority of Americans say it's on-time bill payment (67%) and living Debt-Free (65%), while roughly half say it's the ability to afford small luxuries without guilt (54%) and home ownership (45%). Over half say their contentment can be found in spending on experiences with those they cherish (53%) and in optimism for what's next, including retiring on their own terms (37%). Readying for Retirement: Nearly three-quarters of Americans (73%) say they're currently experiencing Financial Stress, with today's Economic Pressures like inflation (81%), rising interest rates (66%) and student loans (32%) dampening their sense of prosperity. Half report carrying Debt (54% overall, and 72% of Gen X) and nearly 4 in 10 (36%) say that they couldn't handle an unforeseen expense over $500 without real worry. In the current financial environment, Americans now expect to retire three years later, at age 63. Those with a less detailed financial plan (or no plan at all) don't expect to clock out until age 70, five years later than planned. For about 4 in 10 Americans (37%), and exactly half of Gen Xers, retiring by a certain age is the meaning of financial happiness. The majority (84%) are taking steps to reach this target, including putting more money into Retirement Savings (39%), Short-Term Savings like a High-Yield Account (31%), and working with a Financial Advisor (26%). A quarter of savers (25%) are paying off debt more aggressively than they would otherwise and 22% are delaying a major purchase like a car. The Power Of Planning The majority of Americans (73%) say a solid financial plan would bring them happiness, and they would like help to get there: 57% of Americans wish they would have gotten advice sooner. Nearly half of Americans (45%) say they haven't gotten the financial advice they need, including 55% of Gen Zers and 57% of Millennials. But those who already have a plan are proof of its power: Americans with a more detailed financial plan are three times as likely as those with a less detailed plan to report greater happiness around financial freedom (75% versus 24%), their plans to achieve financial goals (78% versus 23%), and the overall state of their finances, such as their net worth and debt balances (73% versus 19%). "The financial professionals at Empower combine the power of advice with technology to help Americans get on the path to financial freedom," explains Waddell. "With their financial goals in mind and a solid plan to reach them, savers can spend more time doing the things that make them happy - in their working years and beyond." Access the full Financial Happiness report on The Currency™. - Celebrating Father's Day: A Historical Tribute with Culinary Delights
Celebrating Father's Day: A Historical Tribute with Culinary Delights May 31, 2023 Share Father's Day, a joyous celebration honoring fathers and father figures, holds a significant place in our hearts. This special occasion, with a rich history spanning centuries, reminds us of the profound influence and love fathers bring to our lives. In this article, we delve into the captivating journey of Father's Day, exploring its origins, cultural significance, and the evolution of traditions. To make this Father's Day truly memorable, we also present a selection of mouthwatering recipes, designed to delight your dad's taste buds and showcase your appreciation in a delicious way. The story of Father's Day can be traced back to the early 20th century when Sonora Smart Dodd, inspired by Mother's Day, sought to establish a similar day of recognition for fathers. In 1910, Dodd, from Spokane, Washington, proposed celebrating Father's Day on her own father's birthday, June 5th. Although the idea initially faced resistance, her persistence and passion eventually led to the official recognition of Father's Day as a national holiday in the United States. The concept of Father's Day quickly gained popularity across the globe, with countries embracing the opportunity to honor and appreciate fathers. In 1972, the United Nations officially recognized Father's Day as a worldwide celebration, encouraging nations to observe this day and recognize the vital role of fathers in society. Today, Father's Day is celebrated on different dates worldwide, ranging from the third Sunday in June in most countries to alternative dates like March 19th, the feast day of St. Joseph in Catholic tradition. Savoring Father's Day with Culinary Delights One of the best ways to show love and gratitude on Father's Day is through the language of food. Does Dad Need A New Grill? There's nothing like sunshine, a warm breeze and the smell of delicious food on the grill to remind you of good times with Dad. If you've been anticipating getting your dad a new grill, wait no longer! According to the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association, Father's Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate everything you love about outdoor cooking. If you already have a grill, this is a great time to upgrade, so you can cook more dishes for bigger get-togethers, or to try a different kind of grill, letting you experiment with new techniques like using a smoker. What kind of grill is best for your Dad? It depends on the space, what you like to cook and how you like to prepare it. First, ask yourself the following questions: How much time does he spend cooking? If he's got a busy schedule, you may prefer the convenience of gas or electric grills. However, if you know he loves spending time perfecting the perfect outdoor meal, he may enjoy a charcoal grill, smoker or kamado grill. How much space do you have? Do you host frequent large gatherings? Go big on your barbecue size to optimize these special occasions. For a big backyard, a larger grill with a kitchen island can create a focal point for entertaining. But a premium portable or compact grill is your best option if you live in a condo or apartment, or for a cabin or other vacation destination with limited space. What does he love to cook? Many grills offer extra features for particular foods. Think rotisseries if he loves roasted chicken, or side burners for soups and stews. Crave the 'za? Consider a grill with ample space for pizza stones. To help him discover his next favorite grill, here are the features of five major grill types to consider when making your choice. Gas: If you want convenience and faster meal prep, a gas grill may be right for him. As with your kitchen stove, your food can be ready to cook in 10 minutes - and it's easy to regulate cooking temperatures. Charcoal: If you know he loves being hands-on with the nuances of outdoor grilling, a charcoal grill may be the choice for you. Some say charcoal provides the best flavor experience. You can use your charcoal grill for classic low and slow cooking - and high heat searing. Pellet: This is a great option for people seeking optimal flavor. With available pellets in Hickory, Mesquite and The Oak, you can enjoy a truly flavorful cooking experience. Electric: If simplicity appeals to you most or you live in a condo or small apartment, an electric grill may be your best bet. Designed to produce constant heat and operate without an open flame - without charcoal or propane - they're especially suited for apartment or condo dwellers. Kamado: For people who love cooking all styles and who keep grilling year-round, Kamado Grills' excellent insulation works perfectly for both grilling and smoking. They're very versatile, use wood and charcoal, and can also roast or bake. Few products come in as wide an array of price ranges as grills, so almost anyone who wants a grill can find one that's within their budget. But remember - a more premium grill offers many more features to enjoy and tends to last longer, providing a stronger return on your investment. Ready to get out there and cook? Get back to barbecue with this delicious recipe for Grilled Chicken Fajitas from Food Writer Brad Prose, Founder of Chiles and Smoke. All you need is two pounds of Chicken Wings, Mexican Seasonings like Chili Powder, Chipotle Powder, Ginger and Limes for a tasty Marinade (4-12 hours), then you can wow your friends and family by grilling or smoking these flavorful Wings. It's essential to reflect on the significance of celebrating dads on Father's Day. This annual occasion serves as a powerful reminder of the invaluable role that fathers play in our lives. It is a time to honor and appreciate their unwavering love, guidance, and support that shapes us into the individuals we become. Father's Day is more than just a day on the calendar; it is an opportunity to create lasting memories and express gratitude to the remarkable dads who have made a profound impact on our lives. First and foremost, Father's Day allows us to recognize and celebrate the unique qualities that make dads so special. Whether it's their boundless strength, their unwavering commitment, or their unconditional love, fathers possess an incredible ability to provide a sense of security and stability within the family. They are the pillars of strength, the protectors, and the providers, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of wisdom. By celebrating fathers on this dedicated day, we acknowledge their role as positive male role models, promoting a healthy and nurturing environment for future generations. Moreover, Father's Day offers an opportunity for reflection and gratitude. It is a time to look back on the countless sacrifices dads make for their families. From working long hours to supporting their loved ones to sacrificing personal interests and dreams, fathers often put their family's needs above their own. This day allows us to express our gratitude for their selflessness and to acknowledge the hard work they put into shaping our lives. Taking a moment to say "thank you" and show appreciation for all that dads do can make a profound impact on their well-being and sense of fulfillment. Celebrating dads on Father's Day is also an occasion to foster deeper connections and create lasting memories. In our fast-paced lives, it's easy to get caught up in the daily hustle and lose sight of what truly matters. Father's Day serves as a reminder to slow down, spend quality time with our dads, and strengthen the bonds that hold us together. Whether it's a shared meal, a heartfelt conversation, or engaging in activities that they enjoy, these moments of connection provide an opportunity to deepen our relationships and create cherished memories that will be treasured for years to come. < Previous News Next News >
- Hurricane Milton, Stormwater Management And A New City Park
Hurricane Milton, Stormwater Management And A New City Park By Josh Levy Mayor Of Hollywood October 16, 2024 Share Fellow Hollywood Residents, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your diligence and preparedness as we faced the potential impact of Hurricane Milton. Your cooperation, readiness, and care for the well-being of one another made a significant difference during this time. I also want to extend my deepest gratitude to our first responders, especially the remarkable teams from our Police Department, Fire Rescue, Public Utilities, and Public Works for their work to prepare our city for the storm. Our teams deployed a record 20 Stormwater Pumps throughout Hollywood to be ready to reduce any flooding. Our new High-Water Rescue Vehicles were placed on standby. Over 12,000 sandbags were distributed to our residents. City parking garages were made available for vehicle storage, essential equipment and teams were ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Throughout this period, our city communications team kept everyone informed via text messages, e-mails, voice alerts and social media. I’m proud to say that while the forecasted rain and wind thankfully did not materialize due to the ultimate structure and trajectory of Hurricane Milton, our city’s level of preparedness for a windstorm has never been higher. Thank you everyone for your resilience and cooperation. Together, we stand strong, ready to meet any future challenges. As we continue to pray for our fellow Floridians who were in the catastrophic path of Hurricane Milton, below I am sharing some updates on our Stormwater Master Plan with Short-Term and Long-Term Flood-Prevention Projects that are being implemented to enhance Hollywood’s resilience for generations to come. I’m also sharing below some great news about a $7.5 Million Federal Grant that we were awarded to assist us in creating what will be our newest green space and largest city-owned park. Yours always, Josh Levy Mayor of Hollywood Implementing our Stormwater Master Plan When more frequent “history-making” rainfall events are coupled with higher water tables, South Florida’s cities and counties understand that we must embark on large Infrastructure upgrades to shore up our region’s Stormwater Defenses. All cities have Stormwater Management Systems that work to contain and control rain water in order to minimize flooding and enable the community to live through rain events with as little interruption to our daily lives as possible. In Hollywood, the Stormwater System includes: miles of Pipes, Channels, Ditches, Swales, Natural Waterways and Drainage Easements. It also includes: thousands of Manholes and Inlets, various Pumping Stations and Retention and Detention Basins. Stormwater Systems always need maintenance and frequently need updating, especially when they no longer deliver an adequate level of service for a community experiencing changing climate conditions. The good news for us on this front in the City of Hollywood is that we recently completed a 2-year project that our City Commission embarked upon - to create a comprehensive Stormwater Master Plan for the city. Following 2 years of engineering analysis, the plan provides us with a list of projects, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood, enabling us to better address stormwater management throughout the city - with consideration to Flood Control, Water Quality Protection, Aquifer Recharge, Supply Conservation and Reuse Conservation, Operation and Maintenance Stormwater Utility Sufficiency, Long Term Financing, Community Acceptance, Adaptability, Resiliency, Fairness in execution and Sustainability. To reach a better level of service for our city, the 20-year Stormwater Master Plan itemizes and recommends a selection of $980 Million to $1.9 Billion dollars of Infrastructure Improvement Projects, including the upgrading and addition of our Exfiltration Systems, Gravity Pipe Collection Systems and Inlets, Stormwater Pump Stations, Outfalls, Stormwater Gravity and Injection Wells, Storage and Detention Storage, Swales, Backflow Prevention Devices, Raise Seawalls/Shoreline Armoring, and Road Raising in conjunction with new collection systems. Our next steps are to determine the near-term budget and select initial projects within the budget. We’ll also need to determine the city’s Long-Term Financing Plan and continue to pursue Regional, State and Federal Grants in parallel. The same need exists for the hopes of converting and connecting our many septic-tank neighborhoods to our City’s Sewer System for Proper Wastewater Treatment. This is a top-most priority for our city and we will embark on these projects year-after-year to achieve the level of service goals that we desire for neighborhoods throughout our city. Below is an excerpt and example of 3 areas of focus. These same Capital Improvement Plans exist for all areas of our city east to west. Federal Grant Awarded to Create a New City Park - Congratulations Hollywood I am pleased to report that our city has been awarded a $7.5 Million Land and Water Conservation Fund Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program grant (ORLP) for the creation of Sunset Park. (This is the old and long closed-down 45-acre golf course property on the corner of Johnson Street and I-95, which we purchased in 2020 to create a new park for our city.) The ORLP Program is a nationally competitive program that enables urban communities to create new outdoor recreation spaces, reinvigorate existing parks, and form connections between people and the outdoors. The program focuses on voluntary conservation and restoration efforts to address the nature and climate crises, improve equitable access to the outdoors, and strengthen the economy. This award represents the first of four grants that staff is actively pursuing to support the Sunset Park Project. More information about this exciting award and a contract for approval is forthcoming to the City Commission. Established by Congress in 2014 and administered through the National Park Service, this program is processed through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection — and it's a great example of how the shared policy goals of our federal, state and local governments can result in a great outcome for a local community. Thank you to everyone who worked hard on this, from our residents and city staff to our elected officials at the federal and local level. #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork < Previous News Next News >
- Hallandale Beach Lost Two Dedicated Public Servants
Hallandale Beach Lost Two Dedicated Public Servants By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper July 20, 2023 Share Many of us take for granted the United States Postal Workers. We are never short of complaints about the Post Office and Service Issues. Many of the men and women that work with the service are hardworking dedicated employees that literally weather all storms (hurricanes excluded) to get the mail out. I can share that even in my husband’s office we have had to deal with no mail and delayed mail. As Mayor, I also have to field complaints about the mail. Many residents and the City depend on the mail for bills and collections. The United States Postal Service is an entity to itself. The Postal Service started in Boston, Massachusetts in the late 1600’s. In 1706 the Continental Congress established the Official Postal Service and Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster. In 1702, the Postal Service was codified by Congress with the Postal Service Act. The Act ensured privacy in the mail making it illegal to open someone's mail and provided that newspapers could be mailed. It provides for open communication and information to citizens. The service went through many changes. In 1970, was the biggest change when Congress provided for the ability for postal workers to unionize and other operational changes. The Executive Branch and Congress still control the Postal Service rates, routes and locations. There continues to be a push to totally privatize the service due to the cost of operations. Congress though still has control and have allowed some private contracting. In my opinion privatization just like attempts to privatize Social Security would be a mistake. Big business controlling functions that ensure protections to the average Joe and Jane are critical. Could you imagine our Mail ballots being controlled by a corporation? This is not to say that Congress shouldn't be addressing some of the shortcomings. A bit of trivia might shed light on the need for performance changes. The Pony Express could deliver mail within 8 days. So with the modern transportation systems and technology there is definitely room for improvement. Still, compared to a FedEx letter starting at around $11.00 dollars to USPS at $9.35 and packages overnight at FedEx starting at $61.25 and USPS at $28.75, it’s a good value. The most important part of any organization is it's employees. During COVID-19, we learned the value of all of our Front Line Workers and Postal Workers who fall into this category and should be treated fairly and with the respect they deserve. You never throw out the whole bunch for one bad apple. Sadly, we lost two of our local postal workers recently. The postmaster of Hallandale Beach, Bobby Jean Sims, recently retired and then lost her battle to Cancer. Bobby Jean was laid to rest on June 15th. She was raised in Hollywood and graduated from Hollywood Hills High School in 1976. She started her career in the Postal Service as a Clerk in North Miami. She worked her way up the ranks to become the Postmaster of Hallandale Beach in 2015. She was very proud of her two children, daughter Talinay and son Eric. She will truly be missed by her three sisters, grandchildren and her entire extended family. Most importantly, her colleagues came together to celebrate her life. We thank her and them for their continued service to our community. Another tragic loss was a loyal Postal Carrier that served the western area of our City. Keith Tyrone Jones, Sr. Also known as Tap. Tap served in the U.S. Army until 1994 when he started his career as a Postal Worker. He has served for over 21 years and was married for 48 years to Linda and had three children and 17 grandchildren. He was very spiritual and loved to share his love and knowledge of history with his children. Often helping with school projects. He loved his music. He also was known for sharing old quotes as lessons in life, to live your life intentionally. He too will be missed by the community and his fellow workers. He was laid to rest on June 17th. Over the years, there seems to be a lack of respect for the day-to-day workers we come in touch with. I believe the super majority of people are still kind. We all need to remember that these individuals are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. They are you and me. We need to stop and take a moment before we lose our patience with people. There are always Laws, Rules and Regulations that impact services. Remember being kind and civil does not cost a dime and like I was taught, you always catch more bees with honey! Thank you to all the Postal Workers! As always please feel free to contact me anytime with your questions, concerns, and ideas to make our city a better place. I am available at: jcooper@cohb.org . Or: joycooper@aol.com . You can reach me at my office number: (954) 457-1318. Or Cell/Text at: (954) 632-5700. You can always visit my Facebook and follow me at Mayor Joy Cooper. Editor's Note I remember both Bobby Jean and Keith fondly. Working in this community for over 30 years I have come across many individuals who serve the community. I must say both, Bobby Jean & Keith were dedicated public servants and will be missed. I remember visiting the Hallandale Beach Post Office on US -1 and Bobby would make sure that if you needed assistance she was there to make it move as quickly as possible. She cared about her job and the people of the community. Keith Tyrone Jones, Sr. was our Postman in West Hallandale Beach, we would see him almost every day. He was a truly kind man and dedicated to his job. He would go out of his way to make sure all of the mail had the correct postage and if it wasn't ready when he arrived, he would go to the end of the plaza and come back to us. He always had a treat for the dog in our office. Within the past few years, he would talk with us about his retirement plans and we wished him well and thanked him for all his efforts and kindness. They will both be missed! < Previous News Next News >
