  • Zaka Modern Japanese Cuisine: Head North or South For This Upscale All-You-Can-Eat Sushi Experience

Zaka Modern Japanese Cuisine: Head North or South For This Upscale All-You-Can-Eat Sushi Experience By Merilee A. Kern, MBA September 19, 2023 Share In the South Florida region, there are any number of all-you-can-eat sushi purveyors, but then there’s Zaka Modern Japanese Cuisine. This popular Sushi Restaurant located in Doral, Miami, visit their website at: https://zakarestaurant.com/ — also with a Boca Raton Location, visit their website at: https://zakaboca.com/ — known for its fresh ingredients, creative Sushi Rolls and modern atmosphere. Having become a go-to spot for Sushi lovers in the Miami area, the restaurant offers a wide variety of Sushi Rolls, including classic favorites like California Rolls and Spicy Tuna Rolls, as well as more innovative creations such as the Zaka Bomb Roll replete with Crab, Avocado and Sweet Plantains topped with Crab, Avocado, Ikura, Seaweed Salad and Fuji Sauce. In addition to Sushi Rolls, the Menu also includes other Japanese favorites such as Udon and Ramen Noodles, Teriyaki and Katsu Chicken and more. One of the standout features of Zaka is the quality of its ingredients. The restaurant prides itself on using only the freshest Fish and Seafood, sourced from reputable suppliers and delivered to the restaurant daily. This commitment to quality is evident in every bite of Sushi, which is expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The restaurant's modern and stylish decor also adds to the dining experience. The sleek interior features sophisticated though vibrant design elements, including wood and stone accents, bright mural artwork and ambient lighting. The result is a chic and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a night out with friends or a romantic dinner for two. But, what makes Zaka a true standout is its approach to the all-you-can-eat Sushi paradigm. All-you-can-eat Sushi options have become a popular trend in recent years, with restaurants around the world offering customers the opportunity to indulge in unlimited amounts of Sushi in a format that allows diners to try new and creative combinations. This makes it an appealing option for customers who are looking for new and exciting culinary experiences. However, the all-you-can-eat Sushi concept has not been without stigma, often relegated to the perception of budget or basic buffets. Zaka is single handedly changing that view with its elevated all-you-can-eat Sushi and Japanese Cuisine experience offered as an adjunct to its regular à la carte Menu. In fact, as a hospitality pioneer, Zaka reports that its upscale Doral location is the first restaurant in the Miami region that offered an all-you-can-eat Sushi model. The 90-minute culinary adventure entails a mix of wait staff-delivered hot entrées and Izakaya (small plate) kitchen fare, with options for Pork Belly Bun, Grilled Korean Short Ribs, Mango Shrimp Ceviche, Hibachi Steak with Fried Rice, Spicy Chicken Ramen and Chicken Pad Thai among them. But, it’s the quality of its Nigiri and Sashimi, and the creativity of the Full 5-Piece Sushi Roll options, that make this Menu a true standout. These include: • Miami Heat Roll: Tempura Shrimp, Spicy Crab Salad, Cucumber and Masago topped with Tuna, Masago, Green Tempura Flakes and Microgreens • Cowboy Roll: Eel, Tempura Shrimp, Cream Cheese and Cucumber topped with Tuna Tataki, Green Tempura Flakes, Fish Eggs and Eel Sauce • Volcano Roll: Crab, Cream Cheese and Cucumber topped with Avocado, Baked Crab, Japanese Mayo and Masago • Mango Tango Roll: Tempura Shrimp and Cucumber topped with Fresh Mango, Avocado, Green Tempura, Mango Purée and Red Tobiko • Green Dragon Roll: Salmon, Tempura Shrimp and Cucumber topped with Spicy Tuna, Avocado and Tempura Flakes • Mad Tuna Roll: Spicy Tuna and Avocado topped with Tuna, Jalapeño, Black Tobiko and Ponzu Sauce • Doral Roll: Soy Paper Roll with Tempura Chicken Katsu and Cream Cheese topped with Crawfish Salad and Tempura Flakes I also must note that the lovely and purposeful plating and presentation of the Sushi Fare was as appealing to the eyes as it was on the palate. I also appreciated the nod Zaka makes to Miami heritage with numerous offerings uniquely featuring Plantains and Mango ingredients. During my dinner service visit, I had also opted for the “deluxe” all-you-can-eat Menu option that included piping hot and fresh Snow Crab Legs and adult beverage inclusion. Speaking of which, Zaka’s Instagram Worthy Program, visit: https://www.instagram.com/zakamodern/ - It is equally impressive, with drink selections available by the glass or bottle, including premium-grade Sake selections and inventive craft cocktails. My favorite selection of the evening was The Lychee Lady—an elixir of Sake, Lychee Juice, Pomegranate, Passion Fruit and Sugar. Dessert at Zaka also does not disappoint. On the evening of my own visit, I indulged in the delectable Thai Donuts laden with Chocolate and Berry Sauce, and a large Pound Cake-Wrapped Tempura Ice Cream Ball also drizzled with chocolaty goodness—both meal enders that were to-die-for. As all-you-can-eat Sushi continues to be a popular trend, Zaka Modern Japanese Cuisine in South Florida’s Doral, Miami and Boca Raton regions is a must-visit for Sushi lovers in the area. From its fresh ingredients and creative Sushi Rolls to its modern atmosphere and excellent service, Zaka is a standout restaurant that is sure to impress. Whether you seek an all-you-can-eat adventure or a traditional dining experience, it’s the perfect spot to satisfy your Sushi cravings…and then some. Zaka Owner Jack Zhao is aptly translating his passion for food, along with beautiful interiors and furnishings, into a commitment to bring the best Asian food—and dining experience at large—to South Florida. A serial entrepreneur with business across numerous sectors, Zhao endeavors to be a true symbol of the American dream who always strives for the best … and inspires the same in others. With Zaka Modern Japanese Cuisine he duly hit the mark. < Previous News Next News >

  • South Florida Legend Rabbi: Rabbi Dovid Bryn zt"l Shul Was In The Community’s Hearts

South Florida Legend Rabbi: Rabbi Dovid Bryn zt"l Shul Was In The Community’s Hearts By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil May 12, 2022 Share South Florida Legend, the beloved Rabbi Dovid Bryn zt"l, founder of Chabad Chayil & the California Club Shul was mostly known for his unending acts of kindness and genuine love for every human being Shabbat, 6 Iyar - May 6-7, 5782 (2022), marked the 20th Yohrtzeit (anniversary of his passing) of South Florida Legend, the beloved Rabbi Dovid Bryn zt"l, founder of Chabad Chayil & the California Club Shul. Mostly known for his unending acts of kindness and genuine love for every human being, he is truly missed by all who knew him. Some Rabbis are known for their gigantic Shuls and temples, but Rabbi Bryn had a much bigger Shul, one not bound by walls. His Shul was in the flea markets, soccer fields of the JCC & in people’s homes. His Sunday afternoon would be spent in a teenager’s living room with a pair of Teffillin and a group of friends. His Shul was in the community’s hearts. Rabbi Bryn was a Chabad Rabbi and Emissary of The Rebbe to North Dade, whose life was tragically cut short at age 40 by Marfan Syndrome, a condition that affects the body's connective tissue. For over a quarter of a century, Rabbi Bryn – the son of Holocaust survivors - courageously battled the fatal disease that decimated his heart, yet managed to minister to, counsel and save tens of thousands of Jews and non-Jews alike. Rabbi Bryn fed the hungry and poor, counseled the sick and the troubled - all with great courage, fortitude and self-sacrifice. He arranged marriages, taught Torah and ethics to thousands, bridged the interfaith gap by working closely with people and clergymen of all faiths … he was the living embodiment of kindness and bravery. Some might be troubled by the precariousness of constantly living on the edge of existence, but the Rabbi’s overflowing concern for others left no room for worry over his own well-being. He lived the equivalent of 120 years of good in a third of the time. One friend commented on: RabbiDovidBryn.org which was created to remember the legendary Chassid, ‘If he could breathe, then he would talk to others about G-d's good, the beauty of a Mitzvah, or life's bright spots. If he could walk, then he would go to share life with others and show a positive perspective as it should be seen. If he could drink, then he would toast L'Chaim to all things positive and constructive. If he could sing, then he would. If he could do it, then he did. He showed strength not owned by men who appear stronger. He showed love that is only written about. He lived a full life of treating others as one would treat themselves. When I need an example of the unrelenting power of love, I think of him.’ For the past 19 years, we’ve been getting together for an annual Farbrengen, to say a l’chaim, reminisce about the good times shared together and, most important, to talk about how he Chesed - his loving kindness for every human being could be emulated. This year's inspirational Farbrengens were led by Rabbi Chaim Dalfin, who authored a book about the rabbi. You can also learn about the Special Tribute Torah being written in his honor and participate in its writing by calling: (305) 770-1919. Or visiting the website: http://rabbidovidbryn.org/ In honor of Rabbi Bryn please dedicate some time to doing an extra Mitzvah, by going out of your way to doing someone a favor. You can be his hands and feet, in making this world a better place. Think global, but act local! Don’t push it off for tomorrow, do something today! And you will have a tremendous part of bringing healing to a wounded world; making it a better place for all, one good deed at a time, until the world reaches perfection, with the coming of Moshiach. May that happen today! About the author: Rabbi Kievman is the Ambassador of The Rebbe to Highland Lakes, FL. He is founder of CHAP - an afterschool program for Jewish children in Public Schools, rabbi at The Family Shul & together with his wife directs Chabad Chayil. He can be reached at: (305) 770-1919. • Flirting with Fame: 50 Years of Celebrity Encounters By A Hollywood Publicist

Flirting with Fame: 50 Years of Celebrity Encounters By A Hollywood Publicist August 25, 2022 Share Flirting with Fame: 50 Years of Celebrity Encounters By A Hollywood Publicist, Veteran Hollywood Publicist Dan Harary has released his first book, a memoir, which recounts his long show-business career. Entitled, “FLIRTING WITH FAME: A HOLLYWOOD PUBLICIST RECALLS 50 YEARS OF CELEBRITY CLOSE ENCOUNTERS” and is now available on Amazon. In “Flirting with Fame,” Harary cites hundreds of stories about his 50 years of interactions, between 1972 and 2022 from age 15 to 65, with well-known celebrities from the industries of film, TV, music, pop culture, a Vice President, a few of the world’s biggest porn stars and two Apollo Astronauts who walked on the Moon. Many of his stories are funny, strange, off-beat or simply hard to believe. Dan Harary was born and raised in Ocean Township, New Jersey - a town just adjacent to the famous city of Asbury Park. Starting in 1972, at the age of 15, Harary began working with famous celebrities during his time as the Stage Manager and Lighting Director at The Sunshine Inn Concert Hall in Asbury Park. His very first “celebrity encounter” was with Woodstock Singer Richie Havens on March 24th, 1972; the next year at the Sunshine Inn, Harary worked with Bruce Springsteen and an early incarnation of the E-Street Band, two years before Bruce’s release of Born To Run. Between 1972 and 1974, Harary worked with dozens of iconic rock bands there, including: KISS, Fleetwood Mac, Humble Pie, The J. Geils Band, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Edgar Winter, Mott The Hoople, Focus, Procol Harum and many other ‘70’s bands now lost to history. Between 1974-1980, Harary had various close encounters with a number of famous show-business names, both during his days at Boston University and following his college graduation. These celebrities included: Joan Rivers, Jack Lemmon, Woody Allen, Brooke Shields, John Cassavetes, Fran Drescher, John Ritter and Jill Clayburgh. Relocating to Los Angeles in 1980 at the age of 24, Harary struggled for two years to gain a foothold within the entertainment industry. However, that did not stop his natural proclivity to, almost literally, “bump” into top performers, including: Larry Hagman, Victoria Principal, Dick Van Dyke, Dudley Moore, Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Murray and others. Finally securing his first full-time position at the American Film Institute, in January 1982, Harary continued having interactions with well-known Hollywood producers, directors and performers, including: Dustin Hoffman, Monkee Mike Nesmith, Director Robert Wise and Soap TV Star Katherine Helmond. Moving over to The Playboy Channel in mid-’83, Harary worked with Playboy Founder Hugh Hefner and many of the alluring Playboy Playmates who graced the pages of that magazine, while also meeting other celebrities at Playboy Mansion parties, including: Garry Shandling, Bill Maher, Robert Vaughn, Christie Hefner and Weird Al Yankovic. In December 1985, Dan became a Senior Publicist at Columbia Pictures Television at their Studios in Burbank. Working on a major studio lot enabled him to meet – or interact with – numerous movie stars and notables, including: Sally Field, Barbra Streisand, Monkee Micky Dolenz, Arsenio Hall, Jim Henson, Richard Dreyfus, Clint Eastwood, Madonna, Alice Cooper, Bob “Gilligan” Denver & Alan “The Skipper” Hale, Jr., Jaclyn Smith, the Cast of What’s Happening Now! and others. In the summer of 1987, Harary moved his career over to a major Hollywood PR Agency that handled many of the biggest stars in the world at the time, including: Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Van Halen, Frank Sinatra, The Monkees and others. At that PR Agency, Harary was the Publicist for TV Comedy Icon Sid Caesar, Comedian Jay Leno (who had just been named by Johnny Carson as the “permanent guest host” of The Tonight Show,) actor Robert “Freddy Krueger” Englund and various film, TV and new media production companies. During his two years there, Harary also worked and/or interacted with Tommy Chong, Eddie Van Halen, Christian Slater, Lorenzo Lamas, Karen Black, Divine, Milton Berle, Tim Burton and more. Relocating to another major Hollywood PR Agency in 1989, Harary’s career kicked into high-gear as he represented network TV shows, major Hollywood events, celebrities, film & TV production companies. Among the many celebrities Harary worked with during this era were Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Dixie Carter, Bruce Davison, Richard Mulligan, Ron Reagan, Jr., Cristina Ferrare, Meryl Streep, Kevin Costner, Jane Fonda & Ted Turner, Sting, Chevy Chase, Shirley MacLaine, Graham Nash, David Crosby, Grace Slick, Stephen Stills, The Who, Michael Jackson, Vice President Al Gore, Michael Landon, Tom Hanks, Sylvester Stallone, Bob Hope, Steve Allen, Apollo Astronauts Buzz Aldrin & Eugene Cernan and others. Concurrent with his 40th birthday in 1996, Harary launched his own company, The Asbury PR Agency, which celebrated its 25th Anniversary in October 2021. During these past decades, Harary has met, worked with or interacted with a virtual “who’s who” of show-business, including: Mel Brooks, Billy Crystal, Jon Voight, Kirk Douglas, Ann-Margret, Jack Black, Rene Russo, Richard Lewis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Brian May of Queen, Bob Barker, Drew Carey, Jason Alexander, Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley of KISS, Victoria Principal, Jonah Hill, Steven Spielberg, Beach Boy Brian Wilson, Jenna Jameson, Marc Summers, Dr. Ruth, Cheri Oteri and Supermodel Amber Smith, to cite just some. On Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022, ALMOST EXACTLY 50 YEARS TO THE DAY after meeting Richie Havens, Harary Co-Produced a high-profile entertainment-industry event for his client, Hollywood’s Iconic Musso & Frank Restaurant and Vanity Fair Magazine, for 200 Young Hollywood Celebrities. At the conclusion of that event, Harary drove home, realizing that “there were no more movie stars” and that his career had come “full-circle.” Now, Dan Harary is finally telling his story. • Welcome To Paradise: MOCA North Miami Showcases Local Artists

Welcome To Paradise: MOCA North Miami Showcases Local Artists February 2, 2023 Share The Museum Of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) invites the community to experience “Welcome To Paradise,” a dynamic new commissioning program featuring temporary public art projects by local South Florida artists. This program invites artists to create ambitious and experimental art installations to activate MOCA's Paradise Courtyard. The first season centers on artists working at the intersection of ecology and technology. On view from February 8th, 2023 through June 25th, 2023, visitors will be able to step into the Paradise Courtyard and discover “Victory Garden,” an interactive sculptural community garden created by Miami-Based Artist Emmett Moore. Drawing inspiration from victory gardens of the past, which were planted during wartime to supplement rations and boost morale, Moore’s “Victory Garden” connects the local community with contemporary art and encourages visitors to reflect on their relationship with the built environment. Utilizing sustainable materials such as repurposed steel drums to form sculptural planters, “Victory Garden” will feature plants native to South Florida and the Caribbean such as Cuban Oregano, Collard Greens, Starfruit, Bee Balm and Everglades Cherry Tomatoes that will be harvested and shared. The exhibition will also include benches and solar-powered USB outlets for visitors to use. The series will continue with “Into The Great Dying: Roles We Play,” a thought-provoking, interactive ceramic sculpture by Miami-Based Artist Beatriz Chachamovits, that engages with the Marine Landscape, highlighting the decline of Coral Reef Ecosystems and the impact of human actions. This installation will be on view from July 5th, 2023 through November 21st, 2023. “At MOCA, we are proud to develop programs like ‘Welcome to Paradise’ that not only reinforce our commitment to supporting local contemporary artists, but also enliven and opens up a space for shared, fee-free access to the museum for audiences of all ages to enjoy,” said Chana Sheldon, Executive Director of MOCA. Complementary to “Welcome to Paradise,” MOCA will offer a diverse array of on-site events and programs, including a member’s event on February 24th, 2023 and a workshop celebrating Earth Day on April 22nd, 2023. “Victory Garden” will be open to the public during MOCA's gallery closure for installation. Welcome To Paradise is made possible with major support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and additional support was provided by The Andy Warhol Foundation For The Visual Arts. General admission to the museum is $10 for adults; $5 for seniors, students and visitors with disabilities and FREE for MOCA Members, residents of the City of North Miami and children under 12. MOCA Dual/Family level and above can pre-register for programs and events scheduled around the exhibitions for “Welcome to Paradise.” To become a member today, visit: www.mocanomi.org/support About The Museum Of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) MOCA North Miami is generously funded by the North Miami Mayor and Council and the City of North Miami; The John S. and James L.
