  • City Program for New Roofs, Impact Windows and More

City Program for New Roofs, Impact Windows and More August 29, 2024 Share Fellow Hollywood Residents, Housing affordability is a big challenge for many households these days, especially because of the high cost of homeowners windstorm insurance in Florida. One of the only ways you can significantly reduce your homeowners insurance premium, is to receive a credit for your house having hurricane-rated impact windows and exterior doors. The age of your roof is also a big factor, because some insurance companies are refusing to even offer homeowners a policy if they consider your roof to be too old. If your house needs a new roof, or impact windows, I am sending this email to remind you that we have a unique city program that offers qualifying residents with up to $40,000 in funding for these types of exterior home improvements. We created the program in 2018. It is called the "Neighborhood Pride Program," and it was made possible through a housing affordability funding agreement that we reached with Broward County, which redesignated county funds that were otherwise restricted for beach redevelopment, to instead be available for this and other housing affordability programs for residents who have homes in the many older neighborhoods of our city. To qualify, residents must (1) meet income eligibility requirements, and (2) your home must be located within a neighborhood census tract that is eligible based on the average income level in the neighborhood. For the income eligibility requirement, as an example, a one-person household’s annual income cannot exceed $88,680, and a four-person household’s income cannot exceed $126,720. (120% of "Area Median Income.") For the neighborhood eligibility requirement, you can check to see if your house is located within a qualifying area by clicking the link below and entering your address. https://maps.hollywoodfl.org/portal/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=69933babcf234f78ab4ee1717424df36 The eligible home improvements include new roofs, impact windows, doors, fences, driveways, paint, landscaping, and more. For more information about eligibility and the terms of the grant you can also visit: https://www.hollywoodfl.org/1159/Neighborhood-Pride-Owner-Occupied-Housin or you can call our City of Hollywood Community Development Division at: (954) 921-3271. To apply right away, you click on the link to the application portal below. https://portal.neighborlysoftware.com/HOLLYWOODFL/Participant# Over 100 Hollywood households have so far benefited from this program, and I hope that many more households will apply and benefit from this funding that the City and County have put in place to invest in the updating of our housing stock and to help our residents with homeowner housing affordability. For income-limited renters, we are also a leading city in terms of supporting partnerships to bring new affordable, workforce and seniors apartments, with four new apartment home buildings under construction right now, along US-1, Dixie Highway and State Road 7, aka "the 7." Sincerely yours, Josh Levy - Mayor < Previous News Next News >

Easy to share and packed with flavor, they’re the kind of game-day dish guests will keep coming back to long after kickoff. Recipe: CHO Funky Asian Bistro – Pork Ribs Recipe Yields 2 Racks of Baby Back Ribs Ingredients for spice rub: • 2 Tablespoons of brown sugar • 2 Tablespoons of salt • 2 Tablespoons of coriander powder • 1 Tablespoon of cumin powder • 2 Tablespoons of onion powder • 2 Tablespoons of mustard powder • 2 Tablespoons of garlic powder • 1 Tablespoon of paprika • 1 Teaspoon of chipotle powder Ingredients for glaze: • 1/2 Cup of gochujang paste • 1 Tablespoon of lite soy sauce • 2 Tablespoons of honey • 1 Tablespoon of rice vinegar • 2 Teaspoons of sesame oil • 2 Teaspoons of chopped garlic • 2 Teaspoons of chopped ginger • 1/4 Cup of water Tip: This recipe makes 2 racks of baby back ribs. Our favorite are Duroc baby back ribs as they are the most tender. We cook the ribs in a two step process first by baking and then by grilling. Steps: 1. First make the rub by adding all dry ingredients for the spice rub together in a bowl and whisk until combined 2. Then use the spice rub to season all sides of the ribs and refrigerate for 12 hours 3. Wrap the ribs in parchment paper and then aluminum foil on top to bake in the oven at 275 degrees for 2 hours 4. After baking, let the ribs sit for 30 minutes outside of the oven at room temp and then unwrap them 5. Make the glaze by combining all ingredients in a bowl and mixing until combined 6. Then using a grill, sear the ribs on both sides and brush them with the gochujang glaze heavily on both sides 7. We suggest topping with pickled shallots before enjoying! Website: https://www.choasianbistro.com/ Sufrat Mediterranean Grill | Greek Fries Perfect for game day gatherings, Sufrat Mediterranean Grill’s Greek Fries put a Mediterranean spin on a classic tailgate favorite. Crispy golden fries are topped with crumbled feta, fresh parsley, and a drizzle of Sufrat’s signature Tzatziki sauce, creating a savory, creamy and tangy bite that’s made for sharing. These loaded fries are an easy crowd-pleaser for any tailgate spread. Recipe: Greek-Style Loaded Fries Ingredients: Steak-cut fries (fresh or frozen), enough for 4 servings • 1 Tablespoon of olive oil • 1/2 Cup of crumbled feta cheese • 1/2 Cup of tzatziki sauce • 2 Tablespoon of fresh parsley, chopped • Mediterranean seasoning blend, to taste Instructions: 1. Toss the fries lightly in olive oil, then bake or fry until golden and crispy. 2. Transfer to a serving platter while hot. 3. Sprinkle generously with feta cheese and Mediterranean seasoning. 4. Drizzle tzatziki over the top and finish with fresh chopped parsley. 5. Serve immediately for the best crunch. Website: https://sufratgrill.com/ Toro Toro | Guacamole Executive Chef Victor Rosales knows that the secret to a great game-day is all about the perfect dip. For an extra kick, he suggests adding spicy tuna to your guacamole, or crispy pork belly for a rich, savory finish. Recipe: Guacamole Yields 2 servings Ingredients • 3 Hass avocados • 1/2 Cup of fresh pico de gallo (drained) • 1 Serrano pepper, finely minced (adjust for heat) • 2 Tablespoon of fresh cilantro, finely chopped • 1 Fresh lime (Juiced) • 1/2 Teaspoon of kosher salt, plus more to taste Tortilla chips Preparation Halve and pit the avocados, then scoop into a molcajete or mixing bowl. Add lime juice and salt and gently mash, keeping some texture. Fold in the pico de gallo, serrano and cilantro. Taste and adjust with additional lime, serrano or salt as needed. Serve immediately with warm, crispy housemade tortilla chips and enjoy! Make It Toro Toro: Top with spicy tuna for a fresh kick or crispy pork belly for a rich, savory finish. Website: https://www.torotoromiami.com/ Corsair Kitchen & Bar | Snapper Ceviche For the tailgate, Corsair Kitchen & Bar’s Snapper Ceviche is a fresh, light option that makes for a refreshing snack. Be sure to keep it chilled in a packed cooler. Chop vegetables finely 2. Dice fish, cubed 3. Prepare garnishes 4. Marinate fish: Toss fish with red onion, and lime juice; let sit 45–60 minutes to “cook” in acid. 5. Add vegetables: Include cucumber, tomato, cilantro, and optional corn. 6. Chill: Keep ceviche cold (40°F or below) until serving for best texture. 7. Serve with: Tortilla chips, plantain crisps, or tostadas if sharing. 8. Enjoy! Storage & Leftovers • Refrigerate in an airtight container within two (2) hours of mixing. • Fresh for 3–4 days; freeze portions for longer storage. Tip For a lighter taste, use fewer limes and less fish; for a richer flavor, add more citrus and bulk up with corn Website: www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/miajt-jw-marriott-miami-turnberry-resort-and-spa/dining With the recipes in hand, all that’s left is to gather your crew, turn on the game and let the food do the talking. • Become A Halloween Hero | sun-times

Become A Halloween Hero By Family Features Oct 1, 2025 If You Participated In Trick-Or-Treat Adventures As A Child, You're Part Of A Long Tradition For Millions Of Children. This Year, You Can Teach Your Own Children Or Grandchildren What It Means To Become A Halloween Hero. As the longest running youth engagement campaign in the U.S., Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has taught generations about the power they have to make a difference for the world's children. The program got its start in 1950 when a handful of kids in Philadelphia collected change in milk cartons ($17 that first year) to help children in post-World War II Europe. Over the years, the campaign grew into millions of children bringing little orange boxes with them on Halloween night to collect coins while trick-or-treating. Generations later, kids have raised nearly $200 Million for lifesaving programs for children around the world, providing health care, nutrition, emergency relief and more. In honor of its 75th year, a month-long initiative is engaging partners and supporters with multiple options for giving. "For 75 years, the little orange box has inspired generations to turn Halloween into something bigger," said Shelley Diamond, Chief Marketing Officer, UNICEF USA. "Today, whether through online fundraisers or family friendly activities, we encourage the young - and the young at heart - to put some meaning in their Halloweening all October long." Donations go to critical, flexible funding that can be used to help children when and where they need it most. The majority of funding goes directly to programs that provide children with essentials like safe water, education and vaccinations against deadly childhood diseases. Funding makes a meaningful difference in everyday lives. Each $1 donation could provide a school or community with 30 pencils or two bars of soap. Every $5 can provide water for a child for a full year or ensure five more children can be vaccinated against Measles. An $8 donation, less than most fast-food meals, could provide a package of 25 diagnostic tests for Malaria. Along with funding critical programs in 157 countries and territories, donations support UNICEF's humanitarian supply network, which rushes essentials like emergency nutrition, blankets or medicine where they're needed, often within 24 hours of a disaster or crisis. Visit: www.unicefusa.org/TOT75 to learn how you and the impressionable little ones in your life can participate all month long. Previous Next
