City Of Sunny Isles Beach Breaks Ground On The Future Intracoastal Sports Park South Florida Sun Times Mar 27, 2025 In A Major Step Toward Promoting Health, Wellness And Community Connection, City Leaders Officially Broke Ground On The Future Intracoastal Sports Park On February 26th. This Long-Anticipated Project Will Transform A Currently Closed Construction Zone, Located Along 158th Street And Collins Avenue, Into A Vibrant Outdoor Space For Recreation And Movement. This City-owned .63 acre parcel of land along with an adjacent park easement is planned to be an extension of the Intracoastal Park system. With a playground at Intracoastal Park South, there has been a demand for restrooms for those users. Additionally, there have been requests for active recreation in the form of tennis and basketball. This project includes the design and construction of a multi-use court and tennis court for these activities as well as a small building for restrooms, storage and a staff member, along with a small parking lot. It is planned to be a resident-only park to serve our entire community. Members of the public joined elected officials, city staff and the project’s management team to celebrate the milestone. • Met @Chabad: Modern Technology Mixed With Age-Old Tradition

Met @Chabad: Modern Technology Mixed With Age-Old Tradition By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil January 5, 2023 Share Close to two hundred local young Jewish professionals gathered in a private ranch in South Florida for a unique event at the end of December. While many such mixer events exist for this large and diverse demographic, this wasn’t just another singles event. Curated and hosted by the folks at Met @Chabad, participants were treated to something that actually delivered on its promise and premise. Met @Chabad, a recent initiative launched by the central Chabad Headquarters in Brooklyn, N.Y., brings a sophisticated blend of modern technology with age-old tradition to the dating world. Long considered a tough nut to crack and the source of much aggravation, in the span of just one year, results are coming in—and they’re looking quite positive. Drawing from ancient Jewish values that stress the importance of compatibility on a bedrock of values, Met @Chabad has developed a unique system that brings new signees into a sophisticated database. The entry point is through a custom questionnaire that prompts participants to hone in on their life values. Once the data is compiled, a complex algorithm makes potential matches based on what really counts: not goals, hobbies, or looks, but shared values. “We’ve seen great success hosting a number of international virtual speed-dating events,” said Rabbi Beryl Frankel, Director of Met @Chabad, who also personally attended the event. “Thousands of young Jewish adults have been matched up with each other with real chances for continuation. It’s now time to break new ground.” The most recent frontier has been to bring the experience to real people in real life. After successfully launching in New York City, San Francisco, and Buenos Aires, Met @Chabad has now hit South Florida and it was met with wild enthusiasm. Well before the event got underway, participants knew that this would be different. Asked to fill out the trademark Met @Chabad questionnaire days before the event, participants were assigned to clusters based on the value group to which the algorithm deemed them most suited. With a different color for each group, it was easy to spot where you belonged as soon as you came in the room. In addition to being placed in groups that automatically put members on the same page, expert coaches were scattered around the room to facilitate meaningful conversation and connection. Each group began with someone leading an ice-breaker bingo game, and the evening progressed from there. Shmuel Druin LCSW was on hand for dating advice; Chanie Lebovics, an experienced matchmaker and dating coach, was right in the thick of things as well; and the many Chabad Rabbis with years of experience shepherding their communities were all available for anyone who needed. A brand new “Jewish Dating Primer” was handed out to all who attended, adding yet another ingredient to help those present achieve their goal: to find a seriously interested partner. “The difficulty of finding a like-minded soulmate with which to start a home is a challenge with which many of today’s youth are struggling,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, Chairman of Chabad Young Professionals International, under whose umbrella Met @Chabad operates. “We’re honored and humbled to see how much progress we’ve made in such a short time to help solve this global problem. And this is just the beginning.” “I’ve been to many different Jewish dating events all over South Florida, from as far south as Brickell and as far north as Boca,” said David Russ, an Aventura native who works in digital advertising, “but Met @Chabad was by far the best one I’ve ever been to. The classy environment set a great mood. The group pairing made it easy to meet people with similar levels of Jewish values. Using a game to help break the ice made it easy to approach and meet new people. No other Jewish dating events I’ve ever attended had such meaningful elements, and it really puts Met @Chabad above the rest.” “It was really something special to see so many young Jewish adults from all over the area come to such an intentional and meaningful event,” said Rabbi Moshe Kievman of Chabad Chayil in Highland Lakes, FL. “Many of them are shy or otherwise apprehensive about dating, and being there tonight was so helpful for them. I personally heard from at least two people, ‘Rabbi, I think I found the right one tonight!’ What can be greater than that?” When asked whether he would go again, Russ replied, “100%! Just tell me when and where, and I’ll be there.” For more information about the innovative matchmaking platform from Chabad visit www.metatchabad.com < Previous News Next News >

  • The Next Crisis Is Anyone’s Guess, But The Government Is Ready To Lockdown The Nation

The Next Crisis Is Anyone’s Guess, But The Government Is Ready To Lockdown The Nation By John & Nisha Whitehead September 14, 2023 Share First came 9/11, which the Government used to transform itself into a Police State. Then the COVID-19 Pandemic hit, which the Police State used to test out its lockdown powers. In light of the Government’s tendency to exploit crises (legitimate or manufactured) and capitalize on the nation’s heightened emotions, confusion and fear as a means of extending the reach of the Police State, one has to wonder what so-called crisis it will declare next. It’s a simple enough formula: first, you create fear, then you capitalize on it by seizing power. Frankly, it doesn’t even matter what the nature of the next national emergency might be (Terrorism, Civil Unrest, Economic Collapse, a health scare, or the Environment) as long as it allows the Government to lockdown the nation and justify all manner of Tyranny in the so-called name of National Security. Cue the Emergency State. Terrorist Attacks, mass shootings, “unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency, pervasive public health emergencies, and catastrophic natural and human disasters:” the Government has been anticipating and preparing for such crises for years now. Here’s what we know: given the rate at which the Government keeps devising new ways to establish itself as the “solution” to all of our worldly problems at taxpayer expense, each subsequent crisis ushers in ever larger expansions of Government power and less individual liberty. This is the slippery slope to outright Tyranny. You see, once the government acquires (and uses) authoritarian powers—to spy on its citizens, to carry out surveillance, to transform its police forces into extensions of the military, to seize taxpayer funds, to wage endless wars, to censor and silence dissidents, to identify potential troublemakers, to detain citizens without due process—it does not voluntarily relinquish them. The lesson for the ages is this: once any Government is allowed to overreach and expand its powers, it’s almost impossible to put the genie back in the bottle. As Harvard Constitutional Law Professor Laurence Tribe recognizes, “The dictatorial hunger for power is insatiable.” Indeed, the history of the United States is a testament to the old adage that liberty decreases as Government (and Government bureaucracy) grows. To put it another way, as the Government expands, liberty contracts. In this way, every crisis since the nation’s early beginnings has become a make-work opportunity for the Government. Each crisis has also been a test to see how far “we the people” would allow the Government to sidestep the Constitution in the so-called name of national security; a test to see how well we have assimilated the Government’s lessons in compliance, fear and Police State tactics; a test to see how quickly we’ll march in lockstep with the Government’s dictates, no questions asked; and a test to see how little resistance we offer up to the Government’s power grabs when made in the name of national security. Most critically of all, it has been a test to see whether the Constitution—and our commitment to the principles enshrined in the Bill of Rights—could survive a national crisis and true State Of Emergency. Unfortunately, we’ve been failing this particular test for a long time now. Indeed, the powers-that-be have been pushing our buttons and herding us along like so much cattle since World War II, at least, starting with the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor, which not only propelled the U.S. into World War II but also unified the American people in their opposition to a common enemy. That fear of attack by foreign threats, conveniently torqued by the growing military industrial complex, in turn gave rise to the Cold War Era’s “Red Scare.” Promulgated through Government propaganda, paranoia and manipulation, anti-Communist sentiments boiled over into a mass hysteria that viewed anyone and everyone as suspect: your friends, the next-door neighbor, even your family members could be a Communist subversive. This hysteria, which culminated in hearings before the House Un-American Activities Committee, where hundreds of Americans were called before Congress to testify about their so-called Communist affiliations and intimidated into making false confessions, also paved the way for the rise of an all-knowing, all-seeing Governmental Surveillance State. By the time 9/11 rolled around, all George W. Bush had to claim the country was being invaded by Terrorists, and the Government used the USA Patriot Act to claim greater powers to spy, search, detain and arrest American Citizens in order to keep America safe. By way of the National Defense Authorization Act, Barack Obama continued Bush’s trend of undermining the Constitution, going so far as to give the military the power to strip Americans of their constitutional rights, label them extremists, and detain them indefinitely without trial, all in the name of keeping America safe. Then Donald Trump took office, claiming the country was being invaded by dangerous immigrants and insisting that the only way to keep America safe was to expand the reach of the border police, empower the military to “assist” with border control, and essentially turn the country into a Constitution-free zone. That so-called immigration crisis then morphed into multiple crises (domestic extremism, the COVID-19 Pandemic, Race Wars, Civil Unrest, etc.) that the Government has been eager to use in order to expand its powers. Joe Biden, in turn, has made every effort to expand the reach of the militarized police state, pledging to hire 87,000 more IRS agents and 100,000 police officers, and allowing the FBI to operate as a standing army. What the next crisis will be is anyone’s guess, but you can be sure that there will be a next crisis. So, what should you expect if the Government decides to declare another State Of Emergency and institutes a Nationwide Lockdown? You should expect more of the same, only worse. More compliance, less resistance. More fear-mongering, mind-control tactics and less tolerance for those who question the Government’s propaganda-driven narratives. Most of all, as I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, you should expect more Tyranny and less freedom. • Stopping The ‘Silent Killer:’ How To Check, Prevent And Manage High Blood Pressure | sun-times

Stopping The ‘Silent Killer:’ How To Check, Prevent And Manage High Blood Pressure By Feature Impact Jul 23, 2026 High Blood Pressure Poses Significant Health Risks For People Of All Ages, But There Are Effective Ways To Both Prevent And Manage This “Silent Killer” By Working With A Health Care Professional To Make Lifestyle Changes. Hypertension, also known as High Blood Pressure, is when the force of blood flowing through blood vessels is consistently too high. This condition makes the heart work harder than normal and can damage arteries, increasing the risk of Heart Disease, Stroke and other health problems. High Blood Pressure is the leading risk factor for Stroke and heart conditions such as Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Failure and Atrial Fibrillation. Strengthening evidence also shows High Blood pressure is linked to risk of cognitive decline and Dementia, which is why the American Heart Association is working to increase awareness and encourage people to manage Blood Pressure. Protect your heart and brain both now and in the future with this information and wellness advice. Who Can Have High Blood Pressure? Anyone can develop High Blood Pressure, which is why it’s encouraged for everyone – in all age groups, including children and young adults – to have their Blood Pressure checked at annual physicals or wellness checkups. For those with a history of High Blood Pressure or risk factors for developing the condition, more frequent measurements may be recommended. Major risk factors for High Blood Pressure include excess weight, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, smoking, lack of physical activity, alcohol consumption and a diet high in sodium and low in potassium. Nearly half of adults in the U.S. have High Blood Pressure and many don’t even know it. Of those with High Blood Pressure, about 75% don’t have the condition under control. Because it typically shows no symptoms, it’s often called a “silent killer.” How is Blood Pressure Checked? To get the best Blood Pressure reading, sit in a chair with support for your back with both feet flat on the ground. Use a validated, automatic, cuff-style, upper-arm monitor. Remove clothing over the arm that will be used and rest for at least 5 minutes. Extend your arm and support it at heart level while staying quiet and still then take multiple readings and record the results. Aim to measure at the same time each day. For most adults, a normal Blood Pressure reading should be less than 120/80 mm Hg. What Happens After a High Blood Pressure Diagnosis? Recognizing and taking quick action to control High Blood Pressure can significantly lower the risk of severe health consequences, including Heart Attack and Stroke, and improve overall health. If you’ve been diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, work with a health care professional to design a treatment plan that works for you. It may include lifestyle changes to your diet or activity levels or medication. How Can High Blood Pressure Be Prevented or Managed? Preventing High Blood Pressure is possible. Talk with a health care professional to create a plan that works for you, which may include small steps like eating a heart-healthy diet, staying active and maintaining a healthy weight. For those diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, maintaining a healthy weight by staying active (at least 150 minutes of moderate activity per week) and eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole grains are important. Even losing 5% of your weight can help improve Blood Pressure. It’s also important to reduce or avoid alcohol consumption and tobacco use. Consider stress-reducing activities, including meditation, breathing control or Yoga. For many individuals, adhering to prescribed medications is essential to effectively control Blood Pressure and reduce the risk of serious health complications. • Beat the Heat, Hollywood: Stay Cool and Stay Safe | sun-times

Beat the Heat, Hollywood: Stay Cool and Stay Safe Jul 30, 2025 Summer heat is here, and it’s no joke. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to serious health risks, including dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Staying safe during these sweltering days takes a bit of planning and attention. Here are some ideas: • Stay indoors or in shaded areas during peak sun hours • Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing • Apply sunscreen when outdoors • Drink water often, even before feeling thirsty • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles • Watch for signs of heat-related illness like dizziness, nausea, or confusion Hydration and Cooling Strategies Most people need about three-quarters of a gallon of water each day, and more when sweating heavily. One way to check hydration is by monitoring urine color: dark yellow may be a sign of dehydration. Avoid sugary, caffeinated, or alcoholic drinks. When sweating a lot, pair water with a salty snack or a sports drink to replace lost minerals. When temperatures hit the high 90s, fans alone may not be enough. A cool shower, an air-conditioned space, or time in a designated cooling center is more effective for lowering body temperature.
