Renowned for his ability to turn a lifeless crowd into a rollicking wave of laughter, Wallace has become a household name in the world of comedy. From sold-out comedy clubs to international concert venues, this extraordinary comedian has captivated audiences worldwide with his unique brand of humor, rooted in the everyday moments of life. Wallace's comedic genius seems to flow effortlessly, and he finds humor in every corner of existence. Whether it's dissecting media absurdities, exploring the intricacies of relationships, or cleverly mocking dialogue clichés, Wallace's comedic delivery is like a lightning-fast strike that leaves the audience in stitches. His comedic timing is unparalleled, and his ability to connect with audiences on a profound level has established him as a true master of his craft. The journey towards comedic stardom began at an early age for George Wallace. Even as a six-year-old, he knew that making people laugh was his calling. However, he also recognized the importance of education, and so he pursued his studies at the University of Akron in Ohio. There, he earned degrees in Transportation, Marketing/Advertising, and even delved into advanced studies in Radio and Television at the prestigious Columbia School of Broadcasting. Wallace's determination and drive were evident from the start, and his hard work paid off as he transitioned from selling rags to becoming a Vice President of Advertising. Yet, his true passion for comedy continued to beckon him. It didn't take long for Wallace to make his mark on the comedy scene. Shortly after leaving the advertising world, he took the stage as a stand-up comedian and secured a writing job for "The Redd Foxx Show," catapulting his career to new heights. His razor-sharp wit and natural comedic prowess quickly garnered attention, and soon he found himself among 150 competitors on the cable television special, "The Big Laff Off." From there, the world became his stage, and he never looked back. Over the years, George Wallace has received numerous accolades for his contributions to comedy. In 2013, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Soul Train/Centric Comedy All-Star Awards, a testament to his enduring impact on the industry. Additionally, he earned the title of Best Stand-Up Comedian at the esteemed American Comedy Awards after four consecutive nominations. As a respected radio personality, he has made memorable appearances on shows like "The Steve Harvey Morning Show" and is a charter member of "The Tom Joyner Morning Show," solidifying his status as a multifaceted entertainer. In 2004, Wallace embarked on a thirty-day headlining stint at The Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. His magnetic stage presence and unmatched comedic flair left an indelible mark on Sin City, resulting in his contract being extended indefinitely. Fondly referred to as "The New Mr. Vegas," Wallace delivered a one-of-a-kind comedy show that included nightly giveaways of various prizes, ranging from CDs and DVDs to diamond necklaces and gourmet chocolates. He even gave away a new car and tropical cruises, making each show an unforgettable experience for lucky audience members. Although he celebrated his 10th Anniversary at the Flamingo in 2014, Wallace ultimately decided to close the show to embark on new adventures, taking his extraordinary talent back on the road. George Wallace is a comedy powerhouse who leaves audiences begging for more. His uncanny ability to find humor in the mundane aspects of life and his unmatched delivery make him a true professional. From his humble beginnings as an aspiring comedian to his current status as a comedic icon, Wallace's journey is a testament to the power of passion and determination. Based on the hit 1992 film, the musical follows Disco Diva Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses a murder and is placed in protective custody in the one place the cops think she’ll never be found - a convent. Manuel, Chaz Rose, David L. Murray Jr., Gianfranco Imbert, Natasha Ricketts, Mikayla Cohen, Ellie Pattison and Ashley Rubin. - Embrace The Joy Of The Season - Holiday Pops At The Parker & Barry University
Embrace The Joy Of The Season - Holiday Pops At The Parker & Barry University November 28, 2024 Share South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO), led by Sebrina María Alfonso, returns to illuminate and inspire joy this holiday season with its beloved performances of Handel’s glorious Messiah (Part 1, the Christmas portion) culminating in the iconic “Hallelujah” Chorus, and timeless uplifting Holiday Pops on Saturday, December 7th, at 7:30 p.m., at The Parker in Fort Lauderdale and on Sunday December 8th, at 4:00 p.m., at Barry University in Miami. SFSO will be joined by vocal soloists Rachel Blaustein (soprano), Lisa Marie Rogali (mezzo-soprano), Norman Shankle (tenor) and Rafael Porto (bass-baritone) and the South Florida Symphony Chorus. Each season, orchestras the world over delight in performing one of classical music’s most well-known and uplifting masterworks. Jonathan Kandell of Smithsonian magazine writes, “A musical rite of the holiday season, the Baroque-era oratorio still awes listeners 250 years after the composer’s death.” In 1789, Mozart posthumously paid Handel the supreme compliment of reorchestrating Messiah but even Mozart confessed himself to be humble in the face of Handel's genius describing his orchestrations: "When he chooses, he strikes like a thunderbolt." In 1823, Beethoven proclaimed Handel to be the ‘greatest’ composer that ever lived. “SFSO’s annual Messiah concert has fast become a time-honored tradition,” said Jacqueline Lorber, President and CEO of South Florida Symphony Orchestra. “We love and are honored to share in the spirit of the holidays with our audiences in celebration of our families, friends, and beautiful music. It is our way of bringing communities together with a message of joy, appreciation, harmony, and peace.” SFSO’s 2024 holiday program will open with a selection of Holiday Pops festive favorites including “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree,” “Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire),” “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” “Ocho Kandalikas,” “Ave Maria” (Schubert), and “Dreidel Song.” Audiences are also invited to sing along to a special medley of cherished classics - "Jingle, Bells," "Silent Night," "Joy to the World" and more. Per tradition, SFSO will close the joyous evening with Part I of Handel’s Messiah culminating with the iconic “Hallelujah” chorus as sung by the South Florida Symphony Chorus, made-up of seasoned chorale singers and community talent, directed by Dr. Giselle Elgarresta Rios. Rios and Maestra Alfonso collaborated to create the South Florida Symphony Chorus in 2019, which made its debut at the Beethoven 250th celebration in February of 2020. Now in its 27th Season, SFSO invites audiences to a tantalizing lineup of Icons & Rebels performances featuring upcoming works by Mozart, Strauss and Berlioz, plus an eagerly anticipated orchestra premiere of Bernstein’s satirical masterpiece Candide. The concerts will take place in Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Key West. From sold-out masterworks performances to accompanying today’s musicians such as Natalie Merchant and performing modern musical scores, South Florida’s largest symphonic orchestra is continuing its journey of excellence by inspiring audiences of all ages and musical genres. This season’s popular collaborations have included performances with ARRIVAL From Sweden: The Music of ABBA and of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, featuring the iconic film screened live with audio and musical accompaniment. Tickets for Handel’s Messiah at both venues start at $25 (plus fees).
