As South Florida Enters The Height Of Summer Weather Season, Hollywood Residents Are Encouraged To Prepare Now For Extreme Heat, Heavy Rainfall, Flooding And The Start Of The Atlantic Hurricane Season On June 1St. From Daily Afternoon Storms To Dangerously High Temperatures And The Potential For Tropical Systems, The Months Ahead Can Bring Rapidly Changing Conditions That Impact Homes, Travel, Utilities And Public Safety. Residents Should Take Steps Now To Stay Informed, Stay Safe And Prepare Households For The Summer Season Ahead.
Stay Safe During Extreme Heat
Heat Season officially runs from May 1st through October 31st and South Florida’s heat index can quickly climb to dangerous levels. High heat and humidity increase the risk of Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke, particularly for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and individuals with medical conditions.
Residents are encouraged to:
• Stay hydrated throughout the day
• Limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
• Check on elderly neighbors, children and pets
• Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles
Community Cooling Centers
When a Heat Warning is issued, the following Community Cooling Centers are available as safe, air-conditioned spaces for residents seeking relief from extreme temperatures:

Hurricane Season Preparedness
The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1st through November 30th. Even storms far from South Florida can bring flooding rainfall, gusty winds, tornadoes, dangerous surf and prolonged power outages.
Residents should prepare now by:
• Reviewing Evacuation Zones and Emergency Plans
• Preparing Emergency Supply Kits with enough essentials for at least seven days
• Refilling prescription medications
• Securing insurance documents and important records
• Photographing household belongings for insurance purposes
• Planning for pets, medical needs and transportation assistance if needed
Emergency kits should include water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, chargers, first-aid supplies and important personal information stored in a waterproof container or backed up digitally.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for Alert Hollywood, the City’s Emergency Notification System, which provides Emergency Alerts by phone call, text message and email for Hurricanes, Flash Floods, Tornado Warnings, Public Safety Incidents and other Emergencies.
