- Sinfully Delicious: The Burgers And Tacos At Dos Pecados (Two Sins) Are Tasty & Fast
Sinfully Delicious: The Burgers And Tacos At Dos Pecados (Two Sins) Are Tasty & Fast February 8, 2024 Share Christian Fragozo loves a challenge. When he and his wife Francys arrived from Colombia six years ago, he knew he would succeed in his chosen career in Structural Engineering, but the couple had both grown up in restaurant families, and it was in their blood. They fell in love with Downtown Hollywood and started exploring the area with the intention of opening a café. And so was born the restaurant with the interesting name of Dos Pecados, which translates to Two Sins, at 2019 Harrison Street, Hollywood, Florida 33020. "When people think of fast, tasty, simple, sometimes inexpensive food, tacos and hamburgers are some of the first ones that come to mind," he explained. "I had thought of some other names, but I think that this is the best way to say that we have both in one place." Before starting out, though, Fragozo brainstormed with family, friends, and investors in the industry. He showed them Harrison Street, the whole area of Downtown Hollywood, and once they got to know it, he said, they all pushed him to open the business. "It is a family effort," he said, adding that he greatly values all the input and opinions of his team of mentors. "I want to grow, so I have to take advantage of the people around me, their many years of knowledge and experience," he acknowledged. "I asked for their support, their advice, their opinions, and they said yes, it's a good idea, we will help you. I want the business to grow, so it's very important to have that support. I know it's hard work, but I am ready for it." In the few weeks since they opened, Dos Pecados has already attracted a strong, local following for the two different but equally crave-worthy menus. Fragozo reports that the most popular items so far have been the Cheese Loaded Burger, a juicy Beef patty topped with Caramelized Onions, two melted cheeses and the Dos Pecados Special Sauce at $14.75 and the Birria Taco, a Tortilla filled with Meat Stew bathed in a mix of Chiles and Spices at $9.00. Hot dogs, Burritos and Bowls are also on the menu, along with Beer and Wine. The bright and colorful interior is complemented by a cozy outdoor patio dining area, where diners can relax, eat, and drink. "I've spent the last six years thinking, working, deciding, and now finally opening," Fragozo explained. "I think the good thing here in Downtown Hollywood is that you have many types of food from different countries right here. And that's crazy! But it's good." Dos Pecados is open Monday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. For more information, call: (954) 589-1518. In addition, two $10 Flat Rate Public Valet Stations, located at 1925 and 1932 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, Florida 33020 are open Thursday to Sunday, from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. For more information about Redevelopment Projects, businesses, new investment, and streetscape improvements in Hollywood's Downtown and Beach Districts, call the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) at: (954) 924-2980. - Who Really Owns America? The Banks, The Billionaires And The Deep State | sun-times
Who Really Owns America? The Banks, The Billionaires And The Deep State By John & Nisha Whitehead Nov 19, 2025 As President Trump Floats The Idea Of 50-Year Mortgages, Americans Are Being Sold A New Version Of The American Dream—One That Can Never Truly Be Owned, Only Leased From The Banks, Billionaires And Private Equity Landlords Who Profit From Our Permanent State Of Debt. Which begs the question: who owns America? Is it the government? The politicians? The corporations? The foreign investors? The American people? While the Deep State keeps the nation divided and distracted by circus politics, America is literally being bought and sold right out from under us. Consider the facts. Homeownership—the cornerstone of middle-class stability—is being transformed into a lifetime rental agreement. Cars, homes and even college degrees have become indentured commodities in a debt-driven economy where the average American family serves as collateral for Wall Street’s profits. This is not accidental. It’s the natural evolution of an economy built to enrich the few at the expense of the many. The American Dream has been repackaged as a subscription service—an illusion of ownership propped up by 0% down payments, predatory interest rates and fine print that lasts a lifetime. What used to be called “buying” is now simply renting from the future. We’re losing more and more of our land every year to corporations and foreign interests. As individual Americans struggle just to make rent, corporations and foreign investors are quietly buying the country piece by piece. Foreign ownership of U.S. agricultural land has surged to more than 43 million acres—millions added in just the last few years. Meanwhile, large institutional landlords and single-family rental operators have amassed hundreds of thousands of houses across the country. Corporations now hold vast portfolios, converting would-be first-time buyers into permanent tenants. The result is a nation where more of our soil and shelter are controlled by entities whose primary allegiance is to shareholders—not communities. The same dynamic plays out across industries. We’re losing more and more of our businesses every year to foreign corporations and interests. Brands that once defined American enterprise—U.S. Steel, Budweiser, Jeep and Chrysler, Burger King, 7-Eleven—now fly international flags. Global conglomerates have bought up the names we grew up with: U.S. Steel (now Japanese-owned); General Electric (Chinese-owned); Budweiser (Belgium); Burger King (Canada); 7-Eleven (Japan); Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge (Netherlands) and IBM (China). The American economy has become a franchise of the world’s oligarchs. We’re digging ourselves deeper and deeper into debt, both as a nation and as a populace. Debt has become America’s most profitable export. Washington borrows trillions it cannot repay; Wall Street packages our futures into products it can sell and households shoulder record balances. The national debt (the amount the federal government has borrowed over the years and must pay back) has surged to more than $38 Trillion under President Trump, “the fastest accumulation of a trillion dollars in debt outside of the COVID-19 Pandemic.” In this economy, debt has replaced freedom as our national currency. The Fourth Estate—the supposed watchdog of power—has largely merged with the corporate state. Independent news agencies, which were supposed to act as bulwarks against government propaganda, have been subsumed by a global corporate takeover of newspapers, television and radio. A handful of corporations now control most of the media industry and thus, the information dished out to the public. Likewise, with Facebook and Google having appointed themselves the arbiters of disinformation, we now find ourselves grappling with new levels of corporate censorship by entities with a history of colluding with the government to keep the citizenry mindless, muzzled and in the dark. Most critically of all, however, the U.S. Government, long ago sold to the highest bidders, now operates as a shell company for corporate interests. Nowhere is this state of affairs more evident than in the manufactured spectacle that is politics. Elections change the faces, not the system. Members of Congress do far more listening to donors than to citizens, so much so that they spend two-thirds of their time in office raising money. As Reuters reports, “It also means that lawmakers often spend more time listening to the concerns of the wealthy than anyone else.” In the oligarchy that is the American police state, it clearly doesn’t matter who wins the White House, if they all answer to the same corporate shareholders. So much for living the American dream. “We the people” have become the new, permanent underclass in America. We’re being forced to shell out money for endless wars that are bleeding us dry; money for surveillance systems to track our movements; money to further militarize our already militarized police; money to allow the government to raid our homes and bank accounts; money to fund schools where our kids learn nothing about freedom and everything about how to comply; and on and on. This is no way of life. It’s tempting to say that there’s little we can do about it, except that’s not quite accurate. There are a few things we can do—demand transparency, reject cronyism and graft, insist on fair pricing and honest accounting methods, call a halt to incentive-driven government programs that prioritize profits over people—but it will require that “we the people” stop playing politics and stand united against the politicians and corporate interests who have turned our government and economy into a pay-to-play exercise in fascism. Unfortunately, we’ve become so invested in identity politics that label us based on our political leanings that we’ve lost sight of the one label that unites us: we’re all Americans. The powers-that-be want us to adopt an “us versus them” mindset that keeps us powerless and divided. Yet as I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, the only “us versus them” that matters is “we the people” against the Deep State. The American Dream was meant to promise opportunity, not indentured servitude. Yet in the American Police State, freedom itself is on loan—with interest. We can keep renting our lives from the powerful few who profit from our compliance, or we can reclaim true ownership—of our persons, our labor, our government and our future. For as long as we still have one, the choice is ours. United In One Cause: National Kidney Foundation Leads Fight Against Chronic Kidney Disease By: Joyce R. Forchion April 14, 2022 Share The Non-Profit Organization continues to galvanize support, donors and participants for the upcoming Annual Miami Kidney Walk scheduled for Sunday, April 24th, 2022. Aligned with the City of Aventura’s mission to promote healthy lifestyle choices and general wellness attainment for its residents, locals are beginning to pay closer attention to the overall health and functionality of their kidneys. Thanks to the efforts of the National Kidney Foundation of Florida to educate South Floridians about the effects of Chronic Kidney Disease – also known as CKD – families now have access to preventive information, free webinars and learning resources indicating inherent threats of Renal Failure. Chronic Kidney Disease develops from the body’s gradual loss of Kidney Function affecting its normal abilities to filter Blood, expel excess water from the Bloodstream and regulate Blood Pressure. “Approximately 33% of American adults are at risk for Kidney Disease; that’s 1 in 3 people and many of them don’t even know it,” said Barbara Chatman, Regional Development Director for the National Kidney Foundation of Florida. “Education on the causes of Kidney Disease are vital because there are certain populations more at risk than others – such as African-Americans and Hispanics – due to Diabetes and high blood pressure, which are the two main risk factors.” During World Kidney Day on Thursday, March 10th, 2022, the Foundation launched a global campaign raising awareness about the importance of our Kidneys to our overall health, and the impact Kidney Disease has made in the lives of people on a global scale. “Since our Non-Profit organization is dedicated to the prevention, treatment and awareness of Kidney Disease, we commemorated World Kidney Day by hosting educational virtual and in-person presentations on Kidney Health and the risk factors associated with the disease,” said Chatman. Though National Kidney Month is observed annually in March, the Foundation intends to spend the year emphasizing the need for massive testing so residents can discover their status, allowing for responsible decisions regarding healthcare plans. Aventura business owners also participated in this year’s prevention campaign. Gabriel Brakha, Owner of Vitalsurance – a multilingual Health Insurance Agency catering to an international clientele – partnered with the Foundation to host a virtual presentation for his staff. “I think it's imperative to help our members understand how to prevent Kidney Issues, Infections and worst-case scenarios,” he said. “We learned that constant hydration is a must and non-negotiable prevention measure for all of us, especially during the aging process.” The National Kidney Foundation of Florida will host its Annual “Miami Kidney Walk” fundraiser on Saturday, April 24th, 2022 at Coral Reef Park. Sponsored by local partners such as DaVita, Florida Kidney Physicians and Bayer. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and is also available at the following link: www.kidneywalk.org/miami “We anticipate a huge crowd of participants, sponsors and vendors since we’ve had to go virtual with our Kidney Walks the last couple of years. It will be good to be back in person again. However, we will offer the walk virtually for those who want to join us from the comfort of their homes or wherever they may be,” said Chatman. She also expressed that the Miami Kidney Walk brings diverse communities together, united in one cause to not only celebrate the gift of life itself, but also each other. Opportunities to partner with the National Kidney Foundation of Florida for events promoting next year’s National Kidney Month are now available. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to take a 60-second quiz determining risk factors for Kidney Disease At: www.minuteforyourkidneys.org For more information on kidney disease and preserving kidney health, contact Barbara Chatman At: (954) 947-4033. Depo Market - 5.1 Million Strong: An Online Handmade Jewelry Company - Racks Up Millions Of TikTok “Likes” Promoting Independent Lifestyle Choices For Adults With Autism And Other Disabilities By Joyce R. Forchion - LOVE Aventura May 16, 2023 Share Depo Market, a notable online jewelry and accessories line designed by several adults with disabilities, is resonating in the hearts and minds of countless TikTok users as many of their videos have garnered over 1 million views and 5.1 million total “likes” on their popular page, @depomarket. Sought-after Jewelry Designer Tiffany Chou founded Depo Market with the intention of providing a better, more independent life for her adopted brother Chris-- the company’s co-designer, who is Autistic-- and other determined adults like him. She believes that empowering adults living with disabilities can be obtained by providing creative and social job opportunities for this particular community to thrive. After gaining momentum from Autism Acceptance Month in April and Asian Pacific American Heritage Month this May, she hopes to elevate this occasional dialogue surrounding the concept of limitless living to a year-long priority among hiring managers everywhere. When asked about her motivation, Chou explains, “The largest minority group in the world is people with disabilities. No matter where someone falls on the spectrum of abilities, if they have a disability, it usually makes it a lot harder to find employment. I want to show our community and other businesses how important it is to include people with disabilities in a team structure. Learning from someone that is different from you can only make you a better person, and in turn make your business stronger.” Family serves as the foundation of Depo Market and the primary reason for its existence. Chou, a prominent jewelry designer whose eclectic work has been featured internationally in Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, retired from her lucrative career in New York to join her brother Chris in conceptualizing the family-operated business based in Maui, Hawaii. Chou and Chris, both adopted from South Korea and Cambodia respectively, prioritize their connectivity in translating their mission-providing outlets for independence to adults with disabilities. “The goal of Depo Market is to provide as many jobs as possible to other adults in the community that are in similar situations as my brother,” said Chou. “He wants to work but hasn’t been given the same opportunities as everyone else. This is a chance for people like Chris to be front and center and show everyone that just because they might do things a little differently doesn’t mean they can’t do it at all.” Chou and her team are committed to encouraging companies worldwide to embrace a more inclusive, socially responsible mission in hiring professionals with disabilities and individuals on the spectrum. “Chris and I have always had a special bond, and I am so proud of his accomplishments and impressed by all the ideas he adds to our family business,” said Chou. “We hope to inspire others to visit our online store, peruse the eclectic jewelry designs within our diverse product line, and select from our assortment of handmade rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and origami-inspired designs. Since interest in our company has spiked tremendously with our TikTok following, we hope to spread the word about the dreams and benefits that are awaiting adults with Autism and other disabilities, with the proper support.” Depo Market is pioneering the way in which the world views the workplace contributions and capabilities of adults with disabilities, and the team intends to continue challenging conventions with their hiring practices and business model. Chou is actively seeking corporate partners in hopes of expanding their platform to counsel global organizations on incorporating Autism Education Initiatives into their strategic plans. - Back To School: Supporting Teachers Helps Your Child's Education
Back To School: Supporting Teachers Helps Your Child's Education August 11, 2022 Share The first day of school for the 2022/23 School Year in Broward County Public Schools is just a couple weeks away, Tuesday, August 16th, 2022. Throughout the Pandemic, teachers have gone above and beyond for their students, becoming not just educators, but also counselors, role models and friends to their students by supporting their overall well-being. Over the past few years we have all learned a lot about our children's education and that the best way to help is with parent and community involvement. In a recent survey, only 52% of teachers feel valued by their communities, according to PDK International, a professional association for educators. What's more, teachers are more burnt out than ever, with 81% reporting their workloads have increased and 55% sharing they have less time for planning than before, according to a State of Teaching survey conducted by Adopt a Classroom. Heading back to school means stocking up on supplies, updating wardrobes and planning new routines for hassle-free mornings. As you prepare for the new school year for your child, consider ways for supporting your children's teachers, too: Volunteer In The Classroom With the extra roles and responsibilities many teachers have taken on in recent years, there aren't enough hours in the day to complete special projects or keep up with certain tasks. Ask teachers how you can lend a hand. That might mean spending some time physically in the classroom, or there may be ways you can support your children's classes from home, such as assembling instructional packets or researching field trip ideas. Volunteering At Broward County Public Schools Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Volunteers play a significant role in the success of students. The District recognizes and appreciates the invaluable service provided for our students to reach their highest potential, in order to succeed in tomorrow’s world. if you are interested in being a part of your child's education and assisting teachers with students contact the School Volunteer Liaison at: (754) 321-2300. Or email: volunteer@browardschools.com Recognize Teachers Who Go Above And Beyond Chances are good you know at least a few educators who have gone beyond the call of duty and made an exceptional impact on their students. Honoring their contributions shows appreciation for all they do. One way to demonstrate your gratitude is by nominating educators for Staples' fourth annual #ThankATeacher Contest, which recognizes 20 stand-out educators who go above and beyond for their students. Winners' schools will be awarded $5,000 in classroom essentials for the upcoming school year. Learn more about how to nominate a teacher at: https://www.staplesconnect.com/p/thankateacher Be A Partner In Your Child's Learning At Home Supporting teachers isn't just about the classroom and supplies; you can also provide a helping hand by creating good habits and modeling the importance of education at home. Actions like creating routines that keep students on a comfortable, familiar schedule help teachers manage classrooms more effectively. You can also make communication with your children's teachers a priority so you're aware of concerns and can help address them early. Donate School Supplies Often, teachers dip into their own income to create fun, engaging learning experiences and supplement student supplies when they run low. In fact, the average teacher spends $745 on supplies for their classrooms that are not covered by school budgets. According to Adopt a Classroom's State of Teaching survey, 71% of teachers spent more of their own money on classroom materials in 2022 than during the previous year. You can ask teachers what supplies they need, or you can give back to teachers through Staples' Classroom Rewards program. Join for free and earn 5% back on every qualifying purchase for you and 10% back of qualifying purchases to donate to local teachers. The program helps reduce teachers' out of pocket costs for their classrooms by allowing them to earn up to $2,000 a year. Another way to donate school supplies is to be a part of the Broward Education Foundation’s Annual Back to School Drive. This yearly event offers multiple ways to contribute. The School Supply Center is stocked through generous donations from local businesses and individuals, supplies purchased with donated funds and partnerships with national organizations such as Kids in Need Foundation, Target, Staples and Walgreens. To donate to this years drive visit: https://browardedfoundation.org/ways-to-give/school-supplies-product-donation-tools-schools-broward/ Or call Hector Javier at: (754) 321-9021. Attend School Board Meetings And Voice Support Keeping tabs on the issues affecting your school district and teachers is an important part of monitoring and advocating for your children's education, but it's also a way for you to lend your support on topics affecting teachers. Stay informed about issues that matter to your children's teachers and support school board policies and actions that serve teachers' best interests. A great way to get directly involved with the school board is to reach out to the Broward County Public School Community Connection Department. This program is designed to enhance leadership, parenting and advocacy skills to provide families the tools for academic success. To learn more about this program and how it can benefit your child, contact Nadia Clarke at: (754) 321-1599. < Previous News Next News >
