- Critical Race Theory: Explained and Opposed By Black Americans
Critical Race Theory: Explained and Opposed By Black Americans By Project 21 February 17, 2022 Share Critical Race Theory (CRT) is "a bad idea for America [and] especially hurtful for black Americans," said members of the Project 21 black leadership network, who have released a new primer that both defines CRT and offers unifying alternatives. The primer, entitled "What Critical Race Theory Means for Black America," is unique in that it offers insight into what black Americans think about the issue, why they oppose CRT and what they believe would better unite Americans and promote prosperity in black communities. "Critical Race Theory is like cancer, metastasizing over the American cultural landscape," said Project 21 Co-Chairman Stacy Washington. "The remedy is eradication through a focus on true black history. Black Americans have made rich historical contributions beyond slavery and the peacefully-executed Civil Rights Movement. True black history connects us to our past and each other, while CRT only divides us and leaves destruction in its wake." "What Critical Race Theory Means for Black America" - the first in Project 21's "What It Means for Black America" series - offers a concise and authoritative overview of the spread of CRT: • How CRT was developed by the left and what it is meant to do • How CRT has been injected into American culture to reshape society • How corporate America and the American bureaucracy and military are promoting CRT • How the Biden Administration is helping implement the CRT agenda • How some Americans are pushing back against CRT's "woke" programming "Project 21's study of Critical Race Theory provides an expansive look into the toxicity of the race-centered indoctrination that has permeated American schools, corporations, federal agencies and even the military," said Project 21 member Stone Washington. "It dissects CRT's many lies - exposing its hideous Marxist-based philosophy that pits race against race, paints all white Americans as irredeemably racist and depicts black Americans as oppressed victims while branding society as having racism systemically intertwined in every aspect of societal relations." The CRT primer doesn't simply complain about CRT - it also outlines several ideas to improve both the lives of black Americans and race relations generally. These include ending racist Davis-Bacon Act labor rules, embracing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.s opposition to group rights, agreeing that financial reparations for slavery would only increase discrimination and acknowledging that the Marxist underpinnings of CRT have been extremely harmful to minority groups around the world. "Critical Race Theory is just the latest example of the soft racism of low expectations," said Donna Jackson, Project 21's director of membership development. "It assumes blacks are helpless victims incapable of competing on their own merit and overcoming obstacles. It is both false and damaging." A downloadable PDF version of "What Critical Race Theory Means for Black America" is available through Project 21's website by visiting https://nationalcenter.org/what-critical-race-theory-means-for-black-america/ About Project 21 Project 21, a leading voice of black conservatives for over 25 years, is sponsored by the National Center for Public Policy Research. A Port St. Lucie Man Is Beating BPH - He Took Control Of His Prostate Health With An Innovative Treatment Now Available Locally South Florida Sun Times Jul 3, 2025 Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), Otherwise Known As An Enlarged Prostate, Affects An Estimated 40 Million Men Across The U.S. The Associated BPH Symptoms Typically Involve An Urgent Need To Urinate, Nocturia (Nighttime Urination), Bladder Damage, Urinary Tract Infections, Blood In The Urine, Incontinence And More – Which Significantly Impact A Man’s Quality Of Life. Despite Being Extremely Common, With BPH And Lower Urinary Tract Issues Affecting 70% Of Men 60-69 Years Of Age And 80% Of Those 70 Years Of Age Or Older, It's Rarely Discussed Openly. But One Port St. Lucie Man Wants To Change That. Dennis’ story – all too familiar for many men For years, 75-year-old Port St. Lucie retiree, Dennis Chaberd, had noticed he was experiencing an increase in needing to make frequent trips to the bathroom, interrupted sleep and discomfort, and other life-disrupting symptoms. He found his energy levels impacted during the day due to poor sleep and dreaded long car rides. Chaberd assumed it was just a normal part of getting older until he was eventually diagnosed with BPH. But even armed with a diagnosis, Chaberd tried various treatments, none of which provided him with relief from his symptoms. Chaberd’s story is all too common. Historically, many men have suffered in silence for health issues like BPH due to stigma or misinformation. In the past, men who sought interventional treatment for BPH faced burdensome options like a lifetime of daily medication, more invasive procedures including Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) or a Prostatectomy – all which carry different risks and side effects. Due to medical innovation, men now have more access to a wide range of options for symptom relief. A shift in BPH Treatment BPH is not life threatening, although it can lead to complications if left untreated. Some complications come on suddenly and can be painful, such as urinary retention, or an inability to urinate. Untreated BPH can also lead to lasting damage to the bladder because it stretches and weakens the bladder muscles. More serious complications include Bladder Stones and Kidney Damage. Fortunately, BPH is a treatable condition that can be effectively managed and help men return to enjoying their lives. Treatment options for BPH depend on the severity of symptoms and the impact on a man’s quality of life. They range from lifestyle changes and medications to minimally invasive or more invasive surgical interventions. Historically, medication was the next step in the progression to treat BPH symptoms, but that approach has started to shift in recent years. Medications are still widely used today, but due to their low efficacy, side effect profile – including impact on sexual function – and poor patient compliance, many urologists are providing other options for their patients right from the start. Beyond the issues mentioned earlier around medications, there has been some concern in the medical community that BPH medications only act as a Band-Aid for symptoms. Though they may provide some symptom relief for some people, they don’t address the underlying cause of the issue – bladder obstruction. And long-term bladder outlet obstruction creates pressure on the bladder, causing it to give out and may result in irreparable damage to the bladder. Thankfully for physicians and patients, and widely due to their demand for better treatment options, today there are a plethora of new and emerging minimally invasive treatment options that can be used alongside or in place of medication. New options – one size does not fit all At one time, a Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) Surgical Procedure was considered the gold standard in BPH Treatments, but it is an Invasive Surgery and there are significant risks involved including sexual side effects, incontinence, bleeding, and a long recovery time. Patient and physician demand for better options has led to the creation of a new class of safe and effective, minimally invasive technologies that don’t cause the same side effects as medications, don’t negatively impact men’s sexual function and do address the root issue of Bladder Obstruction. This brand-new category of BPH treatments is often referred to as minimally invasive surgical therapies (MISTs). Some of the MIST options that are cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be safe and effective include the Optilume BPH Catheter System, a prostatic urethral lift, water vapor thermal therapy, and a temporarily implanted nitinol device. Many factors including severity of symptoms, Prostate size and medical history, come into play when evaluating MIST options, so it’s important to work closely with your urologist to find the best course of treatment for your specific situation. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), Otherwise Known As An Enlarged Prostate, Affects An Estimated 40 Million Men Across The U.S. Finally: Relief Chaberd finally found help when he met Dr. Christopher Hollowell, a Urologist at Z Urology Coral Springs, Florida, who recommended the new, minimally invasive Optilume BPH therapy. The one-time procedure offers a quick recovery, is safe and effective and doesn’t have any negative impact on sexual function, unlike some other BPH treatment options. Typically administered as an outpatient procedure, Optilume BPH is a drug-coated balloon that is inserted into the urethra via a cystoscopic camera, to the prostate. Once in the Prostate, the balloon expands creating an opening, and releases the safe and proven drug, Paclitaxel, into the open Prostate. When the drug coating is fully released, the balloon is deflated and removed. The drug prevents re-fusion of the lobes during healing, keeping the prostate open, restoring the flow of urine and relieving bothersome symptoms with no heating, burning, lasering, steaming or implantation. After his procedure, Chaberd saw results immediately. What’s more, he was finally able to comfortably resume his active lifestyle – jogging, golfing and spending time with friends – free of BPH symptoms. Now, Chaberd is passionate about getting the word out about Optilume BPH to help as many others as possible find relief like he has. No more suffering in silence: Help is available Having a good understanding of the many different treatment options available today is the key to finding relief and improving quality of life quickly, with as few side effects as possible while avoiding irreparable bladder damage. If you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms of BPH, contact a Urologist for evaluation. - The 14th Annual South Beach Seafood Festival Returns - Four-Day Miami Beach Event Expands Its Chef Competitions, Debuts A Collaborative Made In Miami Dinner And Adds New Ways To Taste, Watch And Participate | sun-times
The 14th Annual South Beach Seafood Festival Returns - Four-Day Miami Beach Event Expands Its Chef Competitions, Debuts A Collaborative Made In Miami Dinner And Adds New Ways To Taste, Watch And Participate By Merilee Kern, MBA Oct 15, 2026 Miami In October Has Its Own Culinary Marker, And This Year It Arrives With More Reasons To Plan A Trip Around It. The 14th Annual South Beach Seafood Festival Returns From Wednesday, October 21st, 2026 Through Saturday, October 24th, 2026 Opening South Florida’s Hospitality Season And Coinciding With The Start Of Florida Stone Crab Season. Rather Than Concentrating The Experience Into A Single Crowded Day, The Festival Stretches Across Four Distinct Events, Moving From Intimate Chef-Driven Dinners To Live Culinary Competition And, Finally, An All-Inclusive Saturday Celebration On The Sand. For Travelers Who Prefer To Build A Getaway Around Food, The 2026 Edition Offers A Particularly Strong Case For Putting Miami Beach On The Calendar. The biggest change comes immediately. Wednesday introduces Made in Miami, a new collaborative dinner at Phuc Yea that gathers six chefs whose work reflects different chapters of South Florida’s dining culture. Co-hosts Cesar Zapata and Jose Mendin join GOYA Foods’ Fernando Desa, Michael Beltran of Ariete and Chugs, Eduardo Lara of Wolf of Tacos and Eileen Andrade of FINKA for a four-course experience with curated Herradura Tequila pairings. The format matters. Instead of six separate showcases, the chefs collaborate across the courses, giving diners a one-night snapshot of the relationships and influences behind Miami’s restaurant community. Surprise entertainment and celebratory toasts follow dinner. Thursday shifts the focus to two established Miami Beach dining rooms for An Evening in Miami Beach. Rao’s Miami Beach hosts a multi-course dinner paired with Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky, while Macchialina brings Chef Michael Pirolo’s handmade-pasta-driven Italian cooking together with Jack Daniel’s cocktails and selections from the restaurant’s wine program. It is the quieter night of the festival, and arguably the one that best suits visitors who want the event experience without giving up the intimacy of a destination restaurant. Friday changes the pace completely. The Tequila Herradura VIP Chef Showdown, presented by GOYA Foods, takes over the GOYA Culinary Village at Lummus Park with 18 chefs facing off in nine seafood-centered battles. Two categories are new for 2026: Battle Burger and Battle Fish Sandwich, the latter built around grouper. They join Seafood Pasta, Surf n’ Turf, Shrimp, Taco, Tuna, Salmon and Ceviche. Guests taste the competing dishes, vote for favorites and then watch the chefs go head-to-head on the Jack Daniel’s LIVE Stage as a culinary judging panel selects the battle champions. Bartenders get their own spotlight through the returning Tequila Herradura and Pacifico competitions, adding cocktails and live mystery-ingredient challenges to an evening that already includes unlimited seafood bites, full bars and a DJ. Saturday’s Seafood Slam is the festival at full scale. From 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Lummus Park becomes a four-block beachfront tasting event with unlimited food and beverage sampling and dozens of participating South Florida restaurants and culinary partners. Current names span Aguasal, American Social, Area 31, Baia Beach Club at the Mondrian South Beach, Cafe Bernie, Doma Restaurant, Jarana, Meat Market Boca, Old Lisbon, Orilla Bar & Grill, Pubbelly, The Citadel and The Social Club, with more additions expected. Guests can vote in Best of the Fest, while the day layers in live entertainment, beverage activations, Milam’s Marketplace and Wild Fork live-fire grilling experiences. One of Saturday’s most watchable new additions should be Fresh From Florida’s inaugural “Shuck’n the Sunshine State” oyster shucking competition. Fifteen chefs race through timed rounds to shuck 20 oysters, with finalists ultimately facing Ryan Norris and Nick Frame of Florida’s Indian River Oyster Company. The Milam’s Markets Home Chef Competition also returns for its second year, giving South Florida home cooks a live stage for their signature seafood recipes. Those participatory elements help distinguish the festival from a conventional tasting event. You are not simply moving from booth to booth. There is something unfolding around you. “What has always made the South Beach Seafood Festival special is the incredible community of chefs, restaurants and hospitality professionals who come together each October,” said Valerie Roy, Director of Marketing and Client Strategy at CI Management. “This year’s programming captures everything we love about South Florida’s dining scene, from legendary chefs and longtime favorites to rising talent, one-of-a-kind collaborations and sponsor experiences guests simply can’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re joining us for an intimate dinner, cheering on your favorite chefs and bartenders during the showdowns or spending Saturday tasting your way across the beach, every event celebrates the abundance of talent, energy and hospitality that make South Florida one of the country’s most exciting culinary destinations.” The festival has previously been named among USA Today’s “Top 5 Specialty Festivals in the Country,” Forbes’ “Top 5 Things to Do This Fall” and the Travel Channel’s “Best Seafood Festival in the U.S.” Its local purpose extends beyond the ticketed experience. Festival materials say a portion of proceeds supports the CI Foundation’s EAT SMART program, which provides healthy meals and nutritional education to Florida youth through programs in Miami-Dade County public schools. For those planning to partake as a family, Saturday welcomes all ages, with children under 10 admitted free. However, the Wednesday through Friday events are 21 and older. With its new opening-night collaboration, expanded competitions and a Saturday program designed to keep you tasting and watching for four hours straight, the 2026 festival feels less like a single event and more like a compact culinary itinerary. If Miami is on your fall travel list, Wednesday, October 21st, 2026 through Saturday, October 24th, 2026 gives you a very specific reason to time the trip. The South Beach Seafood Festival ultimately works because it gives you more than a reason to eat well. It offers a concentrated look at the chefs, restaurants and personalities shaping South Florida’s culinary identity right now, set against one of Miami Beach’s most recognizable backdrops. This year’s expanded programming makes that experience broader, more interactive and decidedly more ambitious, while still keeping local talent at its center. Come for one dinner or make a weekend of it. Either way, from Wednesday, October 21st, 2026 through Saturday, October 24th, 2026 offers a compelling opportunity to experience Miami through the people who know how to serve it best. - Flying Cheap - How To Take Advantage Of Error Fare Deals Safely | sun-times
Flying Cheap - How To Take Advantage Of Error Fare Deals Safely South Florida Sun Times Jan 21, 2026 Traveling In 2026 Doesn’t Have To Cost A Fortune. In Fact, Savvy Travelers Can Save Hundreds (Or Even Thousands) Of Dollars On Airfare By Taking Advantage Of Error Fares. These Are Rare, Often Fleeting Pricing Mistakes Made By Airlines Or Booking Platforms That, When Booked Wisely, Can Offer Extraordinary Deals On Flights. But While The Potential Savings Are Enormous, Navigating Error Fares Safely Requires Awareness, Preparation, And A Careful Approach To Avoid Pitfalls. As the Chief Information Officer at SlickTrip (a leading flight price drop website), I’ve witnessed firsthand how savvy travelers can take advantage of error fares. Here is what to know about what error fares are, how to spot them, tips for booking safely, potential risks to be aware of, and strategies to maximize your savings. This guide will give you the tools to fly smarter and spend less, all without compromising your travel plans. What Are Error Fares? An error fare occurs when an airline or travel booking platform accidentally lists a flight at an incorrect price. These mistakes can result from human error, system glitches, or misapplied promotions. Unlike regular sales or discounted fares, error fares are often drastically lower than the market rate, making them highly sought after by deal-hungry travelers. Common Types of Error Fares Error fares can take several forms. Typo fares occur when a simple data-entry mistake, such as entering “$100” instead of “$1,000,” creates massive savings. Currency conversion errors also sometimes lead to international fares being miscalculated, resulting in unbelievably low prices. Mispriced promotions happen when deals intended for specific routes or dates are accidentally applied to unintended flights. Glitch fares on third-party booking sites can also occur when platforms miscommunicate with airlines, causing temporary pricing errors. These error fares are usually short-lived, as airlines often correct them within hours or days, making timing critical. While some travelers may receive confirmation from the airline, there’s no guarantee, which means it’s essential to act quickly while remaining cautious. How to Find Error Fares Finding error fares requires vigilance, speed, and the right tools. One of the most effective ways to track them is by leveraging dedicated resources and travel communities. Specialized websites and blogs, such as SecretFlying, TheFlightDeal, and Airfarewatchdog, monitor and post error fares from around the world. These sites often provide instructions for booking and tips on how to act quickly. Flight tracking apps like SlickTrip are also useful, as they offer real-time monitoring of flight costs and price alerts for specific routes. These are key for error fare detection. Subscribing to newsletters from airfare blogs and deal sites can also give you a crucial head start, as some deliver error fare alerts in real time. Social Media Platforms and online forums, including Reddit communities like r/FlightsDeals and various Facebook groups, can be invaluable as well. Members frequently share error fares before they disappear. Tips for success: have your travel dates flexible, be ready to book immediately, and keep multiple payment options handy. The first traveler to book an error fare often secures the deal. Tips for Booking Error Fares Safely While the potential savings from error fares are enticing, they do come with risks. To minimize these risks, it’s important to act quickly but cautiously. Always double-check the itinerary, airport codes, and travel dates before booking, as a misread route or incorrect airport can turn what seems like a bargain into a costly mistake. Using flexible payment methods can also provide an extra layer of protection. For example, credit cards often offer better dispute options and fraud protection compared to debit cards. Non-refundable or unusual payment methods can also leave you vulnerable if the airline cancels the flight. Additionally, it’s crucial to review airline policies, including cancellation, change, and refund rules. Some airlines may honor an error fare but impose restrictions that limit flexibility. Travelers should also be vigilant against scams. Booking only through reputable websites and avoiding unfamiliar third-party platforms reduces the risk of falling for deals that seem too good to be true. Finally, reading the fine print is essential, as taxes, fees, and seat availability can significantly affect the true cost of an error fare. It is vital to ensure the booking aligns with your travel plans. By taking these precautions, you can secure error fares safely and enjoy significant savings without unnecessary risk. Potential Risks and How to Handle Them Booking error fares comes with its share of challenges, and understanding potential pitfalls can help travelers prepare for unexpected outcomes. One key risk is airline cancellations or fare reversals. Airlines are not obligated to honor error fares, so having a backup plan or travel insurance can help mitigate disappointment if a booking is canceled. Another common issue is limited availability. Because error fares are usually deeply discounted, the number of seats offered at the lower price is often very small, making it crucial to act quickly to secure a spot. Travelers should also be aware that standard travel insurance may not cover trips booked through error fares, so it’s important to review policies carefully before purchasing coverage. Financial protection is another consideration. Using a credit card for payment, keeping thorough documentation, and monitoring airline communications closely can provide recourse for refunds or chargebacks if a booking is canceled. By being aware of these risks and planning accordingly, travelers can act strategically when airlines correct pricing errors and still take advantage of significant savings. Maximizing Your Savings Error fares offer more than just cheap flights, as they can be a powerful way to maximize the value of your travel. For example, if you have frequent flyer miles or hotel points, booking an error fare can multiply your savings. Some travelers even earn points on mispriced fares, boosting overall rewards and making the deal even sweeter. Another way to get more from an error fare is by planning multi-city trips or stopovers. By adding extra destinations or connecting flights, you can turn a single low-cost ticket into a chance to explore multiple cities without spending a fortune. It also pays to monitor follow-up deals. Airlines sometimes release promotions or offer upgrades after an error fare has been booked, so staying alert can help you enhance your travel experience even further. By strategically combining error fares with rewards programs and thoughtful planning, a single pricing mistake can become a luxurious, cost-effective adventure. Case Studies / Real-Life Examples Real-life success stories show that while error fares can be unpredictable, they are a legitimate way to travel cheaper when approached responsibly. The Transatlantic Bargain is a perfect example of the power of error fares. A traveler discovered a typo fare from New York to London listed at $120 instead of $1,200. By acting immediately and securing the booking with a credit card, they locked in round-trip airfare for a fraction of the usual cost. In another example, the Asia-Pacific Glitch involved a mispriced flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo that allowed a family of four to travel for half the normal fare. They booked quickly, carefully checked airline confirmations, and used flexible accommodations to ensure their trip went smoothly and safely. Real-life examples like these highlight the importance of preparation, diligence, and swift action. These stories also offer valuable lessons. Common mistakes include ignoring airline confirmation emails, booking through unreliable websites, or assuming the fare guarantees a seat without verification. Unlock Incredible Savings with Error Fares! Error fares offer travelers a chance to fly affordably and explore the world without overspending. By acting quickly, verifying travel details, using trusted websites and secure payment methods, and understanding airline policies, you can avoid common pitfalls like cancellations or limited availability. Maximizing value with loyalty points, multi-city trips, and follow-up deals makes these fares even more rewarding. With preparation, vigilance, and flexibility, error fares can turn a simple pricing mistake into unforgettable, budget-friendly adventures. Jeremy Greenburg is the Chief Information Officer at SlickTrip, an online platform that instantly compares top travel sites and alerts you the moment flight prices drop. - Annual Water Line Flushing Begins August 25th In Hollywood | sun-times
Annual Water Line Flushing Begins August 25th In Hollywood South Florida Sun Times Aug 6, 2025 The City Of Hollywood Department Of Public Utilities (DPU) Will Conduct Its Annual Water Line Flushing Program From August 25th Through September 28th. This Essential Maintenance Removes Accumulated Sediments From Water Pipes, A Required Practice For All U.S. Water Systems. During flushing, the Water Treatment Plant will temporarily switch from chloramine to free chlorination to aid sediment removal. While this may alter the water's appearance, taste or odor, it remains safe to drink and is regularly tested. DPU staff will systematically open fire hydrants to flush pipes, typically between 8:00 p.m. and midnight. The flushed sediments may cause temporary cloudiness but are harmless and should settle within hours. While free chlorination ends September 28th, line flushing will continue city-wide for several weeks, expected to conclude by October 9th. Individuals with special water concerns, such as businesses with fish/shellfish tanks or users of kidney dialysis machines, should note that regular methods for testing and removing free chlorine may not be effective. Continue testing and adjusting for any remaining chloramines through October 9th. For more information, contact Hollywood’s Division of Water Quality at: (954) 967-4230: Option#: 2. Or the Water Treatment Plant at the same number. Flush Pipes to "Freshen" Water After Extended Absence Returning to Hollywood after an extended period away? Just as the City's water distribution system is flushed annually, flushing household water pipes can be beneficial. Water left stagnant in pipes for weeks or months can dissipate chlorine, potentially allowing bacterial growth and the leaching of contaminants, leading to discoloration, unpleasant odors, or even unhealthy drinking water. For most single-family homes, running water freely from each tap for several minutes should suffice to clear stagnant water. Larger or more complex structures may require longer flushing times, and hot water lines may need separate attention. Remember to replace any expired filters, such as those on refrigerator water lines. For more detailed flushing guidance, consult: www.epa.gov - Or: www.cdc.gov . Previous Next
