Traditionally, November Is When Many Americans Honor Military Veterans And Meet With Family And Friends For Thanksgiving.

But November is also recognized as National Model Railroad Month. Founded in November 1971, the purpose of National Model Railroad Month is to promote the history and enjoyment of model railroading and encourage enthusiasts to share their layouts with the public.

In fact, every November, the National Model Railroad Association, headquartered in Tennessee and created in September 1935, observes National Railroad Month to promote scale model railroading to the public.

Also, this November in South Florida, three volunteer-run organizations in Broward County: South Florida Railway Museum, Inc., Florida Citrus Model Train Society, and the Fort Lauderdale branch of the National League of American Pen Women, will observe National Model Railroad Month by promoting the hobby of model railroading, showcasing railroad-related items, and educating the public on railway history.

Come Saturday, November 28th, 2026 - 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., South Florida Railway Museum, Inc., which has been operating at the old 1926 Seaboard Railway Station (same station where Tri-Rail and Amtrak trains stop) at 1300 West Hillsboro Boulevard, Deerfield Beach, Florida 33442 since 1994, will host its 6th annual train show.

The venue for the South Florida Railway Museum Annual Train Show and Open House will not be held at the depot where the organization normally meets in Deerfield Beach due to space restrictions. Nevertheless, the show will go on and will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 West Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33486.

The event will feature intricate model train layouts, scenery, railway history exhibits, railroad books, family-friendly holiday displays, door prizes, and raffles. Additional info, visit: www.sfrm.org/annual-train-show. Or call: (561) 419 – 3676.

Meanwhile, in the City of Sunrise, a model train exhibition titled: “Railways & Reveries: Imagination in Motion” is open to the public at the Sunrise Civic Center Art Gallery, 10610 West Oakland Park Boulevard, Sunrise, Florida 33351. This model train expo is underway and is running until Sunday, November 15th, 2026.

The organizers of this event consist of the Fort Lauderdale-based Florida Citrus Model Train Society (established in 1999), which is displaying detailed moving model trains on scenic layouts, and the Fort Lauderdale branch of the National League of American Pen Women (created in 1959) that is showcasing the craftsmanship of model railroading, the diversity of visual art, and railway nostalgia (includes railway landscapes).

Operating hours of the Railways & Reveries: Imagination in Motion Show are Tuesday-Friday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
