- What does Archaeology say about the Jewish Claim to Israel?
What does Archaeology say about the Jewish Claim to Israel? By Marc Yahrshevsky July 19, 2024 Share Archaeology is a remarkable tool for uncovering the layers of history buried beneath our feet. For the Jewish people, the ancient city of Jerusalem holds a profound and multifaceted significance, both religiously and culturally. Through meticulous excavation and study, archaeological findings have consistently supported and illuminated the deep historical connections between the Jewish people and Jerusalem, offering tangible proof of their long-standing presence in the land given to them by none other than G-d Himself. There will be a Two-Part series of a ZOOM Archaeological Seminar about excavations in Jerusalem and the City of David and it will even include audio-visuals of the excavations! The multimedia zoom presentation will take place on Thursday, July 25th and Thursday August 8th at 3:00 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Keep in mind that this is the single most contentious issue in the Middle East conflict between Jews and Arabs. “This presentation will uncover powerful and convincing case for the Biblical story for the Jewish claim to Israel – even for those who have a hard time believing,” says Rabbi Smith, Director of the Levi Yitzchok Retiree Academy. Rabbi Avrohom Stolik, the presenter, has received wide acclaim as a biblical archaeological scholar. In the presentation, he will share his extensive knowledge of Jewish history and secular Bible study, as well as his passion for biblical archaeology. He has created a unique presentation that includes imagery, diagrams, and videos that can benefit anyone, whether he or she has been to Israel before or has any background in history or archaeology. The Retiree Academy runs numerous programs and educational programs throughout the year including Talmud, Books of the Prophets, Code of Jewish Law, Chassidic Philosophy and Mysticism, and much more. They just started offering a Conversational Yiddish Seminar as well. Visit: www.JewishRetiree.com - Or call: (954) 458-6000 for more information about their programs. Archaeology confirms the historical accounts found in religious and historical texts and enriches our understanding of the Jewish people's enduring connection to Jerusalem. Each artifact, structure, and inscription serves as a tangible link to the past, providing irrefutable evidence of the deep-rooted presence and influence of Jewish civilization in Jerusalem. Join this seminar and find out about your heritage and these new exciting findings. The cost for this Two-Part Archaeology Series is only $36 and Retirees can get a scholarship. - Breathe Better With Asthma, Wherever You Are
Breathe Better With Asthma, Wherever You Are By Family Features July 18, 2024 Share If you have Asthma, you know that symptoms can come on quickly, then worsen. The things that make them do that are called triggers. An important part of managing Asthma is knowing your triggers at home, work, school or while you're outdoors. A health care provider can help you figure that out, then you can take steps to avoid those triggers and breathe easier. At Home Because Asthma is usually due to Allergies, triggers are often Allergens, or things that cause allergic reactions. Allergens such as Pet Dander, Dust Mites, Pests and Smoke can make Asthma Symptoms worse in some people, and for others, even trigger an Asthma Attack. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) suggests that it may be helpful to combine a few different strategies to help reduce exposure to triggers. People sensitive to dust can clean with a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) Filtration Vacuum and use mattress and pillow covers that prevent exposure to Dust Mites. If you're sensitive to pests like Cockroaches and Rodents, consider Integrated Pest Management, which involves removing and controlling pests through methods such as traps or poison. Avoiding Tobacco Smoke, including Secondhand Smoke, can be especially helpful for some people with Asthma. At School Asthma is one of the leading reasons children miss school. At school, kids may be exposed to Dust Mites, Pests and Mold, which may be Asthma Triggers for some children. Because children spend lots of time at school, it can be helpful for teachers, school nurses or coaches to know what to do if your child's symptoms flare up. Team up with a health care provider to develop an Asthma action plan and share it with trusted adults at your child's school. At Work The workplace can have hundreds of potential triggers, like Chlorine-Based Cleaning Products, Bleaches, Hair Dyes and Metal Dust. Repeated exposures in the workplace can also lead to new triggers. Report new or worsening symptoms that occur at work to your health care provider and your workplace supervisor. Outdoors Everyday weather like cold, dry air can set off breathing problems. Air pollution can affect Asthma, too. It may be helpful to avoid some of the worst pollution by adjusting when and where you exercise. Try to avoid exercising near busy roads or industrial areas. Visit: http://airnow.gov to check your local air quality so you can plan to avoid outdoor activities when pollution is highest. Managing your triggers is just one part of keeping your Asthma under control. Work with a Health Care Provider to develop an Asthma Treatment Plan that includes taking medicines as prescribed and keeping track of your symptoms and where you are when they occur. That way, you can know what's making your Asthma worse or better. To learn more about Asthma, visit NHLBI's Learn More Breathe Better(r) program at: http://nhlbi.nih.gov/BreatheBetter. < Previous News Next News >

- New Year, New Mindset: Life Coach Challenges People To Flip Their Perspectives On 36 Negative Notions
New Year, New Mindset: Life Coach Challenges People To Flip Their Perspectives On 36 Negative Notions January 26, 2024 Share People have about 60,000 thoughts a day, and 70% of those are negative, said Author, Coach and Speaker Rob Cross. “No wonder we feel somewhat stuck, lost, aimless … in our business, in our marriage, with love, with friendships and with parenting,” Cross said in a recent interview. “There’s so much that we want that we’re pushing away, just by how we think.” In his transformational book Flip Your Thinking: To Ignite Your World, Cross shares the refreshingly simple yet radical approach to life he calls “flipology” to challenge readers to question their perspectives on 36 widely held assumptions that prevent people from having the lives they deserve. “Your mind is so powerful that it not only shapes your perception of things, but it also convinces you that it’s the truth,” Cross said. “That becomes your reality. You alone determine what you make things mean.” Cross’ quirky and relatable “flips” — My choice to forgive you sets ME free, not you; Love stays when I let it leave and leaves when I make it stay; To be heard I need to talk less — will have readers wondering if they’ve been viewing life backward and upside-down all along. “I’m going to invite you to FLIP IT!” Cross quipped. “On the other side, you’ll have more love, more peace, and more business than you can shake a stick at!” From how people define professional success to how they approach personal relationships, readers will discover that their circumstances today are outward displays of their inward thoughts and beliefs. So if life isn’t going according to plan, a crash course in flipology might be in order. “It’s time to assign new meanings,” Cross said. “Garner the power of your thoughts. Real and lasting change starts by flipping your thinking before engaging your feet! If not, you’ll simply keep running in circles.” A powerful “how to do life” read, Flip Your Thinking is packed with everyday fresh perspectives divided into four key categories: Flip What You Make Things Mean; Flip Your Approach to Life; Flip Your Choices; and Flip Your Destiny. “I challenge you to approach this book as if you really don’t know everything you think you know,” Cross added. “Be open and curious. Be willing to question how you’ve been looking at things and how you’ve defined things. If you don’t like what you see in life, stand up and change your view. Gaining a new perspective can literally save your life. Happy flipping!” About The Author Rob Cross considers himself a regular guy who sees things outside the boundaries of conventional teaching. In college, he fought and scratched like a cat in a bathtub during those monologues, distancing himself from what he believed were confining definitions and structures. Cross uses his knack for taking life’s everyday challenges and whittling them down to simple, achievable solutions to make a positive and transformative impact on each and every one of his readers. - Turn To Whole Grains For A Nutritional Boost
Turn To Whole Grains For A Nutritional Boost By Family Features August 17, 2023 Share Nutritious eating, including smarter snacking, is an important way to protect your Heart and maintain Overall Health and Wellness. While many people understand the basics of healthy eating - avoiding too many sugary treats, for example - some are confused about important food categories that can impact Nutrition. According to a Survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of the American Heart Association, U.S. adults are least knowledgeable about Refined vs. Whole Grains compared to other food categories like Fruits, Vegetables and Proteins. Whole Grains are, in fact, a key feature of the Association's recommendations for a Heart-Healthy Diet. There are two types of Grain Products: Whole Grains, which contain the entire Grain and Refined Grains, which have been milled into a finer texture like Flour or Meal. Most adults, according to the Survey, are able to distinguish Whole vs. Refined Grains. However, there are a few misperceptions. Most incorrectly believe Multi-Grain Bread is a Whole Grain. Additionally, only 17% believe Sorghum is an example of a Whole Grain when it is, in fact, a Whole Grain option. Whole Grains like Sorghum, Oatmeal and Brown Rice are rich sources of Dietary Fiber, may improve Blood Cholesterol Levels and provide Nutrients that help the body form new Cells, regulate the Thyroid and maintain a healthy Immune System. These sweet, chewy Date Nut Granola Bars from the American Heart Association's Healthy for Good initiative, supported by the Sorghum Checkoff, are a perfect go-to snack for enjoying throughout the week. Popped Sorghum adds a surprise ingredient for crunchy texture while Dry-Roasted Oats and Nuts provide a delicious, toasted flavor. To discover more whole-grain recipes that can support a healthy heart, visit: www.Heart.org/healthyforgood Date Nut Granola Bars Recipe courtesy of the American Heart Association and Sorghum Checkoff Servings: 12 (1 Bar per serving) • Nonstick cooking spray • 1 1/2 Cups of Rolled Oats • 1/4 Cup of almond slices or whole almonds, coarsely chopped • 1/4 Cup of shelled pistachios, coarsely chopped • 1 Cup of pitted dates • 1/2 Cup of unsweetened dried cranberries • 1/4 Cup of uncooked whole-grain sorghum • 1/4 Cup of honey • 1/4 Cup of low-sodium peanut butter • 1 Teaspoon of vanilla extract • 1/8 Teaspoon of salt Preheat the oven to 350 F. Line the bottom and sides of an 8-inch square baking pan with plastic wrap or parchment paper. Lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray. On a large baking sheet, spread oats, almonds and pistachios in a single layer. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly brown, stirring occasionally. Let cool slightly. In a food processor or blender, process dates and cranberries 1-1 1/2 minutes, or until chopped and clumpy. Transfer to a large bowl. Put 2 Tablespoons of Sorghum in a Silicone microwaveable bowl or clean, brown paper bag. If using a microwaveable bowl, cover with a lid. If using a paper bag, roll it shut and place it on a microwavable dinner plate with a fold facing down. Microwave it on high for 2 minutes, or until there are more than 10 seconds between pops. Repeat with the remaining Sorghum, microwaving it for 1 1/2 minutes, or until more than 10 seconds between the pops. Stir in the Popped Sorghum, the Oats, the Almonds and the Pistachios into a Date mixture. In a small saucepan over Low Heat, heat the Honey and the Peanut Butter for 5 minutes, or until the Peanut Butter is smooth and the mixture is warmed, stirring it occasionally. Remove it from the heat. Stir in the Vanilla and the Salt. Pour the Peanut Butter mixture over the Date mixture, stirring to break into small clumps. Transfer half to a baking pan. Using the bottom of the drinking glass or fingers lightly sprayed with Nonstick Cooking Spray, press down firmly to flatten and pack it tightly so the clumps adhere to each other. Repeat it with the remaining half. Freeze it covered for about 1 hour until it is firm. Place the cutting board over the pan. Turn the pan over. Discard the plastic wrap. Paid Immunity: Should We Receive Money To Get Vaccinated? September 16, 2021 Share According to the survey Floridians, on average, agree that the unvaccinated should be paid a substantial $198 each Currently, there are around 93 million eligible Americans who can receive the COVID vaccine, but still haven’t got their shots. Public service announcements have reassured us about the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness, but it seems like it may take more to convince people who haven’t gotten round to getting their dose… A cash incentive perhaps? A recent survey found that roughly 1 in 3 of the unvaccinated population said receiving a cash payment would increase their likelihood of getting the shot. In fact, in Minnesota, more than 30,000 people signed up for a program to receive a $100 incentive to get their first dose of the vaccine between July 30 and August 15. It seems the extra encouragement is highly welcome! Recently, West Virginia’s governor, Jim Justice announced $100 savings bonds for young people between the ages of 16 and 35 who get vaccinated. • Alaskans and Minnesotans are prepared to pay the unvaccinated $259 - the most in America • Half of those already vaccinated think remunerations for shots would be unfair MyBioSource.com, a biotechnical products distribution company, conducted a survey (3,000) to gauge how much the general public thinks that the unvaccinated should be incentivized in order to get a jab. Floridians, on average, agree that the unvaccinated should be paid a substantial $198 each! This is higher than the national average of $182. Additionally, respondents in Alaska and Minnesota are most keen to vaccinate their fellow citizens, suggesting a whopping $259 would be a fair compensation. Comparatively, those in Utah would not want the unvaccinated to receive more than $74 each for receiving their dose. And going forward, 61% believe if unvaccinated people are going to be paid to get their dose, those who have already had theirs should of course be remunerated in arrears. Forty-six percent of those who were unvaccinated said they’d be more encouraged to get their dose if they didn’t have to wear a mask in public thereafter. Finally, nearly half (49%) of respondents also said that preventing unvaccinated people from entering public spaces (like restaurants, coffee shops and malls) will encourage higher vaccination rates. < Previous News Next News >
