- A Time To Celebrate: 41st Annual Dinner Of Congregation Levi Yitzchok-Lubavitch / Chabad of South Broward
A Time To Celebrate: 41st Annual Dinner Of Congregation Levi Yitzchok-Lubavitch / Chabad of South Broward September 22, 2022 Share This past weekend hundreds set sail aboard the luxurious Grand Princess Yacht to celebrate the major grand expansion that is so badly needed. Chabad’s dozen of institutions in Hallandale are bursting at the seams. Fundraising this year will go towards phase 1 of the $18,000,000 Grand Expansion Project, which is so badly needed as they, once again have outgrown their present facilities. Due to phenomenal growth the original expansion has gone from $18,000,000 to $30,500,000, this figure includes burning the mortgaged at Chabad of South Broward Headquarters. A huge influx of families to Hallandale Beach and surrounding neighborhoods, has made it necessary to expand the Shul grounds to include more pre-school space, a Hebrew School and adult education classrooms, a CTeen and Friendship Circle Youth Center, a parking garage, a Women’s Balcony, an expanded Teacher’s Seminary and a proper Kiddush /Social Hall. Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, Senior Rabbi of Congregation Levi Yitzchok-Lubavitch and Executive Director of Chabad of South Broward Headquarters, who started Shlichus in Broward County in 1980 with his Rebbitzen Goldie, invited everyone to take part in this historic Dinner. They were the first Chabad House in Broward County, today there are at least 30 Chabad Centers in South Broward. Every year, their dinners have been merited to receive a personal letter from the Lubavitcher Rebbe. "With great excitement we are at the final stages of our two building Florida Jerusalem Campus construction and we need your help to finish the project. In these dangerous and terrifying times we must make every effort to secure our precious children in our preschool, Hebrew School, Seminary, Bar and Bat Mitzvah Clubs, CTeen Program and our program for physically challenged children and teenagers, the Friendship Circle. Our Florida Jerusalem Campus, is an extremely highly exposed and bustling Jewish Center, as it is located on Hallandale Beach Boulevard, considered today the busiest street in the USA. This final stage will fortify the exterior of the building and enclose the walkway with electronic doors. See below for a detailed list of this security upgrade project. Please donate generously today and ask your parents, grandparents, family and friends to help as well. Together we will make a safer environment for our children." Rabbi Tennenhaus During the dinner Rabbi Yossi Lebovics led in the recital of Tehillim. Rabbi Leizer Barash read a letter to the Congregation from 1985, in which the Rebbe added a paragraph about his Holy Father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok, after whom Chabad’s first Synagogue in Broward is named. A special thanks is given to the entire staff of Chabad of South Broward Headquarters including Rabbi and Mrs. Moshe Schwartz, Rabbi and Mrs. Mendy Tennenhaus, Rabbi and Mrs. Mordechai Feiner, Rabbi and Mrs. Levi Tennenhaus, Rabbi and Mrs. Yossi Lebovics, Rabbi and Mrs. Yossi Lifshitz, and Rebbitzen Goldie Tennenhaus and Mrs. Chana Eliyahu for such dedication and making this dinner possible. Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus announced that the Dinner was 30 days before Simchas Torah and the entire Dinner had the air and spirit of Simchas Torah. Festivities took place on three floors of the luxurious Yacht and dinner guests left confident and uplifted, that they are entering the New Year 5783, a year that the Simcha will break all barriers with the imminent revelation of Moshiach, Now. - Year-End Holiday Travel Expected To Set New Record - More Than 7 Million Floridians Among 122 Million Americans Traveling For Christmas And New Year’s | sun-times
Year-End Holiday Travel Expected To Set New Record - More Than 7 Million Floridians Among 122 Million Americans Traveling For Christmas And New Year’s South Florida Sun Times Dec 25, 2025 AAA Projects 122.4 Million Americans Will Travel At Least 50 Miles From Home Over The 13-Day Year-End Holiday Period Beginning December 20th And Ending January 1st. This Year’s Forecast Is A 2.2% Increase Over 2024, Surpassing Last Year’s Record Of 119.7 Million Travelers. “People are eager to travel this holiday season,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “That’s leading to record numbers on the roads and in the skies. Our advice is to plan ahead. Book early, allow extra time to reach your destination, and think about travel insurance if you’re flying during winter weather. It’s the best way to protect both your trip and your peace of mind.” National Holiday Travelers • Total Travelers: 122.4 million (+2% / 2.7 million more than last year) • Auto Travelers: 109.5 million (+2% / 2.1 million more than last year) • Air Travelers: 8 million (+2% / 181,000 more than last year) • Other Travelers (bus, train, cruise): 4.9 million (+9% / 407,000 more than last year) • Florida Holiday Travelers • Total Travelers: 7.5 million (+3.4% / 244,000 more than last year) • Auto Travelers: 6.7 million (+3% / 198,000 more than last year) • Air Travelers: 394,548 (+2.5% / 9,500 more than last year) • Other Travelers: 383,228 (+10.5% / 36,000 more than last year) • Holiday Travel Costs According To AAA Booking Data: • Domestic flights: Average $890 (up 7%) • International flights: Average $1,400 (down 14%) • Domestic hotel stays: Average $750 (up 13%) • Rental cars: Average $635 (up 1%) Year-End Travelers By Mode Of Transportation By Car: AAA projects 109.5 million Americans will travel by car for their year-end trips, an increase of 2% compared to last year. Driving is the most popular mode of transportation, largely due to its convenience and low cost. This year, 89% of holiday travelers will take road trips. • Gas prices are lower than last year, with the national average dipping below $3 per gallon for the first time in four years. • Safety reminders: December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. Designate a sober driver and avoid distractions. • Vehicle prep: Check tires, battery, and fluids before hitting the road. AAA responded to more than 860,000 emergency roadside service calls during last year’s holiday. • Slow Down, Move Over: Protect roadside workers and stranded motorists. Car rentals: AAA’s car rental partner Hertz says Saturday, December 20th is expected to be the busiest pick-up day. The top 5 markets with the highest demand are Orlando, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami, and Phoenix. Small SUVs make up the most popular car rental class over the year-end holidays. Air Travel Soars Above 8 Million AAA projects a record 8.03 million air travelers, a 2.3% increase compared to last year. This will be the first time on record that the number of domestic air travelers over the year-end holiday period exceeds 8 million. Domestic flights are 7% more expensive this year. According to AAA data, which is based on what travelers paid when they booked their holiday trips, the average ticket costs nearly $900. The days leading up to Christmas Day are the most expensive, while flying on the holiday itself is cheaper. New Year’s flights are also pricey, with many people returning home on New Year’s Day or even squeezing one extra weekend out of the holiday season and coming back on Sunday, January 4th. Travel insurance is essential, especially when winter weather and heavy travel demand increases the risk of delays and cancellations. It helps offset unexpected costs associated with rebooking fees, lost luggage, and trip interruptions. For air travelers, this protection is especially valuable during peak holiday periods when flights are full and alternative options are limited. Tips For Air Travelers • Check flight status before leaving home and sign up for airline alerts. • Arrive early. Allow at least two hours for domestic flights and three for international. • Pack smart. Keep medications, chargers, and a change of clothes in your carry-on. • Know your rights. Understand airline policies on rebooking and compensation. AAA’s Year-End Top Destinations The top holiday destinations listed below are based on AAA booking data for the year-end travel period. Warm destinations dominate the domestic side with travelers heading to Florida, Southern California, and Hawaii. Caribbean destinations and resort towns in Mexico are also popular to celebrate the year-end holidays and ring in 2026. Best/Worst Times To Drive And Peak Congestion By Metro Christmas week is forecast to be busier on the roads than New Year’s week, but both weeks will see days of increased traffic, according to INRIX, a provider of transportation data and insights. • Interstates will be more congested the weekend before Christmas, as travelers hit the road on Saturday and Sunday ahead of the holiday. • Friday, December 26th is also expected to be busy as travelers make moves post-Christmas Day. • Because the year-end holiday travel period spans a longer time frame, travelers have more options for departures and returns. • Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are typically the lightest traffic-wise, but remember, crashes or severe weather could create unexpected delays. Holiday Travel Forecast Methodology In cooperation with AAA, S&P Global Market Intelligence (SPGMI) developed a unique methodology to forecast actual domestic travel volumes. The economic variables used to forecast travel for the current holiday are leveraged from SPGMI’s proprietary databases. This data includes macroeconomic drivers such as employment, output, household net worth, asset prices including stock indices, interest rates, housing market indicators, and variables related to travel and tourism, including gasoline prices, airline travel, and hotel stays. AAA and SPGMI have quantified holiday travel volumes going back to 2000. Historical travel volume estimates come from MMGY’s TRAVEL PERFORMANCE/MonitorSM. The PERFORMANCE/MonitorSM is a comprehensive study measuring the travel behavior of U.S. residents. MMGY contacts over 50,000 U.S. households each month to obtain detailed travel data, resulting in the unique ability to estimate visitor volume and spending, identify trends, and forecast U.S. travel behavior, all after the trips have been taken. The travel forecast is reported in person-trips. In particular, AAA and SPGMI forecast the total U.S. holiday travel volume and expected mode of transportation. The travel forecast presented in this report was finalized the week of November 17th, 2025. Because AAA holiday forecasts focus on domestic leisure travel only, comparisons to TSA passenger screening numbers should not be made. TSA data includes all passengers traveling on both domestic and international routes, whether traveling for work or leisure. Additionally, TSA screens passengers each time they enter secured areas of the airport, therefore each one-way trip is counted as a passenger tally. AAA focuses on person-trips, which include the full round-trip travel itinerary. As a result, direct comparisons of AAA forecast volumes and daily TSA screenings represent different factors. INRIX Methodology INRIX blends statistically grounded models with real-world road behavior to forecast travel conditions on the most heavily traveled routes across the U.S. during peak holiday periods. INRIX’s holiday traffic forecast combines pre-selected high-impact travel routes, rich multi-source traffic data, and a statistically robust linear regression model to generate detailed, time-specific travel delay predictions. INRIX’s data sources include a wide array of vehicle-based and infrastructure-based inputs. These include connected vehicle GPS data, mobile apps and navigation services, roadside sensors and cameras, and commercial fleet telematics. With expansive coverage, high temporal resolution, and historical context, this forecasting process provides essential insights for travelers, media, and agencies alike. - Stand Against Hunger: Food Shouldn’t Be an Impossible Choice
Stand Against Hunger: Food Shouldn’t Be an Impossible Choice August 25, 2022 Share For many, a daily meal is a simple choice of what to eat. But for people facing hunger, a daily meal poses a very different type of choice. It’s often an impossible choice between food or other crucial needs, such as electricity, childcare or medicine. Make the choice to participate in Hunger Action Month in September and together we can eliminate hunger. Hunger Action Month is a time dedicated to raising awareness of the hunger crisis nationwide. In South Florida approximately one million individuals face hunger and have no idea where their next meal is coming from. This includes nearly 500,000 children and seniors. Food shouldn’t be an impossible choice. Feeding South Florida works to make food available and accessible to those who need it most. Join fellow South Floridians during Hunger Action Month to take a stand against hunger by sharing, volunteering, donating, fundraising and other actions to draw attention to this critical issue. Feeding South Florida experienced an unprecedented increase in providing nutritious food to over 1.1 million individuals due to inflation, the strained supply chain, rising fuel prices, increased housing costs and other factors stemming from the COVID-19 Pandemic. “The community’s support comes at a crucial time, when the demand for food has increased significantly due to inflation at its highest in 13 years and rising food costs,” said Paco Vélez, President and CEO of Feeding South Florida. “Hunger Action Month is a great opportunity for the community to be a part of a month-long initiative that has a real and lasting impact on our mission of ending hunger in South Florida. We are proud to serve the South Florida community for over 40 years and will continue to do whatever it takes to provide access to nutritious food, tools and education for economic growth throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.” To commemorate Hunger Action Month, a nationwide initiative created by Feeding America® to inspire action toward ending hunger in the United States, Feeding South Florida will unveil the winning artwork from its third annual “Feed Your Creativity” Art Competition. Artwork by Caeden Khouri, a sixth grader at Coral Springs Charter School, will be displayed as a truck wrap on one of its 36-foot tractor-trailers that travels throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. Feeding South Florida of Pembroke Park will offer a range of events and activities to encourage South Floridians to get involved and “go orange,” the color and call to action of Feeding South Florida. Monetary donations go further during September with the Delta Air Lines one-to-one match up to $25,000. - An Evening Of Remembrance - The City of Hallandale Beach Invited community members to an art exhibit to commemorate October 7th
An Evening Of Remembrance - The City of Hallandale Beach Invited community members to an art exhibit to commemorate October 7th By Ira Liebowitz - Hallandale Beach Resident November 15, 2024 Share It was a year to the day, October 7, 2024 after Israel suffered an act of terrorism causing some 1,200 heinous deaths-and compared to the infamous attack more than a generation earlier on US soil. The City of Hallandale Beach was to put on An Evening of Remembrance honoring the victims and survivors of the massacre of innocent civilians including women and, especially, children last year. The event was rescheduled for a week later, October 14, to occur at the Hallandale Community Center due to hurricanes. It went off smoothly as Hallandale Police Department ensured safety as an estimated 150 to 200 persons attended the event that started shortly after 7 p.m. and ended about 2 hours later. The event commemorated the staunch resilience of the people of Israel to survive the unprovoked violence that occurred on October 7, 2023-truly a "day of infamy" like Pearl Harbor-and the continued aftermath involving the relentless shelling of Israeli cities by missiles of terrorists, Hamas, Hezbollah and other proxies of Iran. In particular, the event highlighted paintings of 80 Israeli children ages 8, 9 and 10 as they expressed in a tangible way, in "The Light of Sderot: Worlds on Canvas," what was in their hearts and minds. These paintings ranged in tone from smiley faces to rainbows to scenes of a city besieged by missile attacks. Through paintings as therapy, kids expressed their feelings. "Alongside great pain there was always room for hope," a pamphlet noted. An Evening of Remembrance was the brainchild of Hallandale Vice-Mayor Anabelle Lima-Taub who had been born in Israel and is fluent in Hebrew. Many from the audience seemed familiar with a prayer and comprehended the Hebrew language. Doctor Gershon Fink was a special honoree who spoke a prayer asking for the safe release of the hostages. Doctor Gershon Fink is, in fact, a medical Doctor, according to Mayor Cooper. The event took place October 14, 2024. It had been pushed back from a week before-October 7, the anniversary date of the terrorist attack due to Hurricane Helene. Of the Hallandale City Commission, Vice-Mayor Lima-Taub took hold of the verbal reins as moderator, often preferring to ignore a pre-written speech to speak from the heart extemporaneously. And her inspired words on this emotive night flowed as from a spring of the soul. Also speaking eloquently with conviction were Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper and Commissioner Michele Lazarow. Last March Anabelle Lima-Taub, and Commissioner Michele Lazarow personally had visited the now "Sister City" of Sderot, even staying at burnt-out homes of victims in a virtual “little ghost town” and braving the elements amid nearby missile attacks. During their visit they presented this city with a key to the City of Hallandale Beach. Lima-Taub read a letter from the Vice-Mayor of Sderot which ended, “long live Israel. Together we shall win!” Anabelle mentioned how proud and amazed she was at seeing Commissioner Lazarow standing courageously against imminent danger. At the Remembrance, Commissioner Lazarow advised people to "be smart" and remain safe by avoiding dangerous confrontation while expressing their solidarity for Israel. Honored was Florida State Senator Jason Pizzo who was awarded for his steadfast diligence in support of the Jewish State. Mayor Cooper declared October 7 to be Senator Pizzo Day. She expanded that time frame to October 14, as well. Senator Pizzo referred to himself as "An Italian Irish kid from New Jersey who was blessed to have a Jewish godfather." He began by saying, "There is no generation where people have… had to hide who they are, where they are or what they are. This has never happened for another race, religion, culture or ethnicity..." Senator Pizzo asked kids under 18 at the event to raise their hands. To the four youngsters who did so, he said, "My hope and my dream is that yours is the first generation that when you become adults, and you become parents that you carry one thing that the last generation had not been able to do-be absolutely proud and loud about who you are, where you are anywhere in this world." He noted the significance that of the world's 189 sovereign nations, that only one is a democratic Jewish State. "Be absolutely proud and loud about who you are, where you are anywhere in this world!" -- Florida State Senator Jason Pizzo said to the children at "An Evening of Remembrance" Also honored was Ernesto Ackerman, President of Independent Venezuelan American Citizens. He is the son of a Holocaust survivor who passed away in 2022 just before her 100th birthday. Mr. Ackerman is not immune to the threat of enemy fire. As a five-year old in 1956, he was en route to visit uncles and was unaware– as then there was no internet-- of imminent danger. "Just as the ship set sail, we saw the entire city of Haifa go dark. All the lights went out and we saw Mount Carmel disappear before our eyes," he recalled. Like others present this evening, he noted the increasing antipathy toward Israel. "And now, the attention shifts away from the atrocity as if Israel should be blamed for protecting its people from such horrors from happening again. Emotively, he continued, "We must never forget, we must continue the fight for justice for our people, for erev (land of) Israel, and may the light of those we love/lost never be extinguished." Lima-Taub corroborated this thought citing an example of courage where in 1982 Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin stood up to a US Senator, decrying, "I am not a Jew with trembling knees." He and Anwar el-Sadat of Egypt was awarded the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize. A poignant video was shown of Siberian-born Tzippy Holland, educator and founder of Bridge of Love. Born in Siberia in 1940, she'd experienced the Holocaust. In the video, she implored the audience to stay vigilant as to the escalating Antisemitism happening worldwide, including at US universities. "I know what is happening. The whole world thinks that it's only happening in Israel. It's not. Antisemitism is growing all over the world. And, in America...in all the universities in the cities, when you wake up in the morning, you can see the clouds of Antisemitism." -- Holocaust survivor, educator, Tzippy Holland “In all the universities in the cities, when you wake up in the morning, you can see the clouds of Antisemitism." -- Holocaust survivor, educator, Tzippy Holland. Ms. Holland continued with stark emotion, likely sending chills and tears to those present and surely to this newspaper reporter. "Look at the drawings of these little kids. That instead of drawing flowers and beautiful scenery, they are drawing death. They are drawing unbelievable pain. I wish for them to be happy and healthy and to be able to get up in the morning and smile and dance and draw beautiful pictures." - Tzippy Holland Vice-Mayor Lima-Taub offered her opinion as to the roots of Antisemitism. "What is the core that bothers people so much about 'pesky' Jews?" she asked. "Jealousy," a man from the audience blurted out. Lima-Taub noted that indeed, Jews are hated because of their "success." It seems noteworthy that as about 15 million people of Jewish descent occupy the earth, it seems a disproportionate number have excelled in many endeavors, including Art and Science. She also noted to be alert to the term, "Zionist," which has the connotation of "dirty Jew." Toward the conclusion, many people were recognized for their outstanding contribution to organizing the event and supporting Israel. Mayor Cooper thanked the legion of non-Jewish folks who are good Samaritans, who helped with the event and supported Israel. She thanks the Hallandale Beach Police Department which she lauded as stalwarts for ensuring Safety for the local Jewish population. A line of more than a dozen honored folks were welcomed onstage to copious applause from appreciative attendees. Capping off the evening was a performance by the Miami Ensemble Israeli Music Band. Moderator Lima-Taub effectively encapsulated the evening's premise as she said to the audience, "You come from a lineage of hundreds and thousands of years of survivors. This is the time to stand up. This is the time not to be quiet. This is not the time to be polite. We tried everything. Now is the time for us to stand up and speak up." Oh, a final thought by Tzippy Holland and then by John Lennon: "I still believe that we have a lot of good people around and the world is still good. And, that we can still change all this hate. Everybody should love everybody." John Lennon famously sang, "All You Need Is Love." Moderator Lima-Taub said of Florida Senator Jason Pizzo: "I have been great witness to his tremendous altruism and support in many ways to the Jewish community of South Florida." Mayor Cooper expressed the relationship between terror attacks and the efforts of Florida State Senator Pizzo supplied to tend to their needs. "Whereas of October 27, 2023, Hamas, the designated terrorist organization, launched an unprovoked attack on the State of Israel, causing great loss of life, displacement and terror among the Israeli citizenship, whereas the Jewish community in Florida was directly home to many families and deep connections in Israel was directly affected by this tragic event... ... "Senator Jason Pizzo has shown unwavering support for families of hostages affected by this brutal attack, standing in solidarity with them during their time of distress, offering critical emotion and logistic support and whereas Senator Pizzo's benevolence and advocacy was extended to the Jewish families in Florida, many who have found themselves in urgent need." "In his dedication to the Jewish community as well as his steadfast commitment to promoting peace, safety and justice for all has been exemplary, setting standards for compassion and leadership in times of crisis." Also, Orit Feigelman the Chair Person of “Reut Women” read a prayer to the audience which was received warmly. - Don’t Overlook Key Coverage Gaps, Start 2026 Right By Reviewing Your Insurance Policy | sun-times
Don’t Overlook Key Coverage Gaps, Start 2026 Right By Reviewing Your Insurance Policy South Florida Sun Times Jan 28, 2026 As Families Are Getting Settled In The New Year, AAA Experts Suggest Adding One Crucial Financial Task To The Top Of The List: Reviewing Their Insurance Coverage. While Health And Savings Goals Are Common Priorities For 2026, Ensuring That Your Home, Auto And Assets Are Adequately Protected Is A Vital Step Toward Long-Term Financial Security. “Many homeowners renew their policies automatically, overlooking how their lives and homes have changed over the past year,” said Mark Jenkins, Public Relations Manager for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “This 'set it and forget it' approach can create significant coverage gaps. A comprehensive insurance review ensures policy limits align with current needs and replacement costs." Key Moments When Homeowners Should Revisit Their Coverage Home Additions or Renovations – Projects such as kitchen or bathroom upgrades, finishing a basement, replacing the roof, or installing a pool can significantly increase a home’s value. Policyholders should confirm that their dwelling coverage limits reflect these improvements. Recent roof replacements may qualify homeowners for lower premiums. Life Changes That Affect Coverage – Major milestones can shift a household’s insurance needs, yet many families forget to update their policies accordingly. Changes such as marriage, divorce, teenage drivers, adult children moving out, or welcoming a new baby can influence liability considerations, personal property needs, and eligibility for certain discounts. Keeping household occupants accurate ensures the policy reflects the home’s current risk profile. Acquiring High‑Value Items – New valuables, such as watches, jewelry, fine art, electronics, photography equipment, firearms, musical instruments, silverware, or high‑end furniture, may exceed standard personal property limits. Many of these items require a scheduled personal property rider to ensure full protection. Working From Home – With remote and hybrid work becoming increasingly common, homeowners should consider coverage for their home office equipment. Standard policies typically cap reimbursement for business equipment at $2,500, which may not cover computers, monitors, routers, and other essential devices. Upgrades That Lower Risk and May Earn Discounts – Certain improvements not only protect the home but may also reduce insurance premiums. These include: • Updated plumbing or electrical systems • Smoke detectors and fire alarms • Security systems and smart home monitoring • Water leak detection devices • Other home protection technologies that reduce the likelihood or severity of losses Ensuring Adequate Replacement Value – Homeowners should verify that their dwelling coverage reflects the current cost to rebuild, not the original purchase price. Construction and labor costs continue to fluctuate, making it essential to confirm that coverage is sufficient to fully replace the home after a major loss. Don’t Overlook Auto Coverage Just like homeowners’ policies, auto insurance needs can shift over time, yet many drivers renew without reviewing their coverage. “Changes such as buying a new vehicle, adding a teen driver, moving to a new neighborhood, or driving more (or less) than in previous years can all affect premiums and protection levels,” Jenkins said. AAA recommends confirming that liability limits are adequate, optional coverages like uninsured motorist protection are up to date, and discounts for safe driving, good student discount for teens, telematics like AAADrive, or multi-vehicle households are being applied. AAA Triple Check®: A Simple Review to Catch Costly Gaps AAA offers a free Triple Check® policy review for both auto and home insurance that’s available to everyone, whether you’re insured with AAA or another provider. The Triple Check® process ensures your coverage is tailored to your needs and competitively priced by: • Identifying potential coverage gaps to protect what matters most. • Assessing recent life changes that may impact your insurance needs. • Verifying discounts you may qualify for. • Uncovering opportunities to save across multiple policies. “Utilizing AAA’ s Triple Check® for a quick annual review can help families avoid costly oversights and take advantage of new savings opportunities, making it a simple resolution with a big impact,” added Jenkins. “Your home is likely your biggest investment, so starting 2026 with the right coverage is one of the smartest resolutions you can make.” For more details on AAA products and services, AAA members and consumers can connect with a AAA Insurance agent at their local branch or visit: www.AAA.com/Insurance . - French Chic Wines For Less: Climate Change Can Help You Find Better And Cheaper Wine
French Chic Wines For Less: Climate Change Can Help You Find Better And Cheaper Wine July 18, 2024 Share Life is expensive and, as much as we can not escape this fact, we often need to try to save money where possible. An occasional indulgence like a glass of fine wine helps to keep us going. The good news is that there are a few secrets that consumers can use to find high quality French wines for less. Business remodeling, climate change and technique can be used to allow you and your loved ones to indulge more often in French Varietals without spending more than you want. Seeking out producers who are changing their business model is the first way to find chic French wines without the prix élevés. The cooperative is a ubiquitous part of the French wine landscape with some 619 Cooperatives across France are responsible for making 51% of all French wine. Cooperatives are businesses that operate under shared ownership, with growers pooling their vineyard holdings to gain access to expertise in winemaking and marketing and to lower the costs of production and cultivation. Over time, the price of grapes in some regions like Burgundy have risen substantially. The increase in value has made it tempting for cooperative members with vineyards of high quality potential to leave the cooperative and produce their own wine for a greater share of the spoils. Yet when they first withdraw from the cooperative, the now freestanding producer has limited brand awareness and no market presence beyond their cellar door. This results in price being a key selling point until the brand establishes a following and press reviews that will support price increases. Seeking out producers who have recently withdrawn from cooperatives is a great way to both try great wine at bargain prices but to also support small operations when they need it most. The Macon wines of Jean Manciat are a good example of this. A lot of column inches are currently devoted to the threat posed by climate change. While there is no denying the fact that the climate is changing, the lesser known fact is that climate change can help you find better, and cheaper wine. You just need to know where to look. The Bordeaux region of Moulis-en-Médoc is a prime example. Large parts of Moulis-en-Médoc lie on outcrops of gravel based soils that mimic those of the best producers in the more prestigious appellations of Pauillac and Saint Julien. The free draining nature of these gravel soils make them perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, considered to be the grape with the highest quality potential on the Médoc peninsula. Despite this natural advantage, the inland location of Moulis-en-Médoc, away from the moderating influence of the Garonne river, was always cooler and its Cabernet Sauvignon struggled to achieve the same degree of ripeness as the warmer riverside appellations with the lesser quality reflected in lower prices. Today, the prices for Moulis-en-Médoc wines are still low, but the warming climate now means that Cabernet Sauvignon is now ripening perfectly and producing charming, classically styled, Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux wines that reach their peak around 10 to 15 years from vintage. Château Anthonic is just one of the many producers worth seeking out. The third way to find high quality wines on a shoestring is to look at technical wine styles where the method of production, in contrast to the origin of the grapes, plays a large part in establishing the quality, and style, of the final wine. Champagne is one such technical wine style with the global icon of sparkling wine being made by a process known as the traditional method. The same method is used in many other wine regions of northern France, such as Burgundy and the Loire Valley to produce sparkling wines that are known as Cremant. The combination of a cooler climate, frequent use of similar grape varieties, and an identical production method means that Cremants are often excellent facsimiles of many entry level styles of Champagne. Although similar in the glass, the lower cost of land and grapes outside of Champagne, along with smaller marketing budgets, means that Cremants are available at prices that are very friendly for everyday drinking at around the $15 mark, making them the perfect choice for quiet luxury. The wines of Langlois-Chateau are but a starting point. In an era of rising prices, the wines of the historic—and always en vogue—regions of Burgundy and Bordeaux, along with facsimiles of Champagne, are still available on a budget. Consumers can use business remodeling, climate change, and technical production methods to guide themselves toward the best deals. The only question is which region to start with. < Previous News Next News >
