  • Old Lisbon Unveils New Aventura Location - A Generational Legacy Of Portuguese Culinary Tradition

Old Lisbon Unveils New Aventura Location - A Generational Legacy Of Portuguese Culinary Tradition Aventura Digest December 18, 2024 Share Old Lisbon, Miami’s beloved destination for authentic Portuguese cuisine, proudly announces the opening of its newest location in Aventura. This 2,500 Square-Foot Restaurant elevates the dining experience, blending Portuguese tradition with modern elegance, while continuing the brand’s commitment to bringing the rich flavors of Portugal to South Florida. With a thoughtfully designed space that honors Portugal’s cultural heritage and a carefully curated menu, Old Lisbon Aventura sets a new standard for fine Portuguese dining. Old Lisbon’s story is as rich as its cuisine. When Founder Carlos Silva arrived in Miami from his native Portugal in 1991, his journey with Old Lisbon began in the most serendipitous of ways. Silva, eager to connect with his roots, stumbled upon a Portuguese restaurant preparing for its grand opening. Unable to contain his excitement, he knocked on the door and was greeted by the owner, who graciously offered a preview of the menu. Silva’s first meal—a perfectly Grilled Bacalhau paired with Vinho Verde—left a lasting impression. He became Old Lisbon’s very first customer, paying twenty dollars for a meal that would eventually shape his destiny. A few years later, Carlos Silva became the owner of Old Lisbon, transforming it into the iconic Portuguese fine dining restaurant chain it is today, with three prominent locations across South Florida. Now, the Aventura location marks the next chapter in this legacy as Silva's son, Carlos Silva Jr., takes the reins to lead this newest expansion. Carlos Jr.’s involvement marks the beginning of a new era for Old Lisbon, ensuring that the family’s passion for Portuguese cuisine continues to thrive for generations to come. “We’ve been honored to serve the South Florida community for over three decades,” said Carlos Silva. “With my son, Carlos Jr., taking on the Aventura location, it’s a proud moment to see this legacy grow into a true family business, ensuring the future of Old Lisbon remains rooted in tradition but flourishes with new ideas.” Old Lisbon Aventura brings the heart of Portuguese cuisine to life with a menu that celebrates the best of both sea and land. Standout dishes include: Bolinhos de Bacalhau (Codfish Croquettes with Black-Eyed Peas), the Fiery Chouriço Assado (Flaming Portuguese Sausage), and the exquisite Polvo Grelhado ou Frito (Grilled or Lightly Fried Octopus seared in Garlic and Olive Oil). For Seafood lovers, dishes like Camarão Ao Alho ou com Molho Picante (Grilled Shrimp with Garlic or homemade spicy sauce) and Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato (Clams in a White Wine and Lime Consommé) offer a true taste of coastal Portugal. Hearty dishes such as the Bife à Old Lisbon (NY Strip Steak topped with a Fried Egg) and Carré de Cordeiro (Rack of Lamb with Broccolini and Punched Potatoes) reflect Portugal’s land-based culinary traditions. In addition to its core menu, the Aventura location offers a special lunch menu available from Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., featuring classics like Salada Portuguesa com Atum (Tuna Salad with Mixed Greens, Tomatoes, and Boiled Eggs) and Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá (Shredded Codfish with Onions, Boiled Eggs, and Potatoes). For a more relaxed dining experience, guests can indulge in Happy Hour, available Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., featuring savory bites like Codfish Croquettes and Portuguese Sausage, paired with House Wines and Sangria specials. Guests can conclude their meal with traditional Portuguese desserts like Pasteis de Nata (Custard Tarts with Cinnamon) and the rich Delicia de Fátima (a custard-based dessert with cream and Maria cookies). Designed by architect Ricardo Azevedo., the new Aventura location marries modern elegance with timeless Portuguese aesthetics. The interior features hand-painted columns, a six-seat marble-topped bar, and an intimate dining room that seats 64 guests inside and 28 outside. The décor includes custom-made plateware, Portuguese chairs, and hand-painted mosaics, all imported from Portugal, adding to the authenticity of the experience. At the heart of the restaurant stands a 120-year-old olive tree, “Oliveira,” symbolizing the longevity and tradition that Old Lisbon represents. It greets diners as they walk in, reminding them of the deep-rooted history behind every dish. Complementing this environment is a specially curated music playlist, enhancing the dining experience with melodies that reflect the soul of Portugal. Additionally, wine lovers will be in paradise, the restaurant also boasts Florida’s most extensive selection of Portuguese Wines, offering guests an exceptional opportunity to savor the finest wines from Portugal's renowned vineyards. Each wine is carefully selected and stored in their floor to ceiling wine cellar. As Old Lisbon enters this new chapter, the Aventura location not only reflects the growth of the restaurant but also the continuation of a family legacy. With Carlos Silva Jr. taking the helm, the Silva family is ensuring that Old Lisbon remains a generational restaurant, preserving the authentic flavors of Portugal for years to come. Whether you’re seeking a quiet meal with family or a venue for special occasions, Old Lisbon Aventura offers an experience that blends tradition with modern sophistication. • 2026 Miami Marathon To Support Holocaust Survivors - Jewish Community Services Of South Florida And The Blue Card Partner To Raise Critical Funds | sun-times

2026 Miami Marathon To Support Holocaust Survivors - Jewish Community Services Of South Florida And The Blue Card Partner To Raise Critical Funds Jewish Connection News Sep 18, 2025 Jewish Community Services Of South Florida (JCS) Is Proud To Announce Its Continued Partnership With The Blue Card For The 2026 Life Time Miami Marathon & Half Marathon On Sunday, January 25th, 2026. This Inspiring Collaboration Aims To Raise Critical Funds For Holocaust Survivors In Need Throughout The South Florida Community. Participants who join the JCS Team Blue Card will run either the half marathon (13.1 miles) or the full marathon (26.2 miles) as part of a powerful movement aimed at raising funds for JCS’ 400+ Holocaust survivor clients in order to bring dignity, care, and essential services to them. Runners must commit to raising a minimum of $500 for the half marathon or $1,000 for the full marathon, with 100% of proceeds directly benefiting JCS programs that serve Holocaust survivors. JCS Team Blue Card invites runners of all backgrounds and abilities to take part in this life-changing experience and make every mile count toward a brighter, more compassionate future. To join the team or learn more, contact Jake Rider, JCS Community Engagement Specialist at: jrider@JCSFL.org. About The Blue Card The Mission of The Blue Card is to provide direct financial assistance to needy Holocaust survivors. Of the nearly 3,000 Holocaust survivor households The Blue Card serves, three-quarters are over the age of 78 and nearly 70% live alone. Many of these survivors struggle to afford basic needs, such as adequate food, healthcare and more. As these men and women age, they are plagued with the consequences of surviving the most devastating conditions imaginable, including poor nutrition and minimal medical care. Studies have proven that Holocaust survivors have higher rates of chronic conditions and illnesses like Hypertension, Kidney Disease, Cancer and Dementia, than peers in their age group who did not live through the Holocaust. Unfortunately, too many do not have the financial support to afford treatments and medications, and so they will either forgo getting treatment altogether or paying other bills like rent or heat to cover the medical costs.* Many survivors came to this country after World War II and worked in menial jobs. Tiny pensions from those jobs, social security, and Medicaid simply cannot keep up with the financial needs of this most vulnerable population. They are frequently desperate for uncovered expenses such as dental care, hearing aids, and transportation to doctors. Dignity was forcibly taken from them during the Holocaust, and now they are vulnerable once again. The Blue Card provides direct financial assistance to ease the financial burdens and ensures that its clients don’t lose their dignity once again, in their last years. • Feeling Stressed About Your High Utility Bills? The City of Hollywood Has Partnered with Solar United Neighbors for Broward Solar Co-Op 2022

Feeling Stressed About Your High Utility Bills? The City of Hollywood Has Partnered with Solar United Neighbors for Broward Solar Co-Op 2022 August 11, 2022 Share With energy costs rising and coastal cities becoming more vulnerable to increasing climate risks, are you looking for ways to control your clean energy future? Have you ever thought about going solar but aren’t sure where to start? Well, you’re in luck! The Non-Profit Group Solar United Neighbors (SUN) is hosting the Broward Solar Co-Op 2022 to help bring more rooftop solar to South Florida communities. What Is A Solar Co-Op? Together, Co-Op Members will learn about solar energy and leverage their numbers to purchase individual solar systems at a competitive price and top quality. “The Co-Op will enable Broward County homeowners and business owners to join the growing community of people saving money by harnessing solar power,” said Laura Tellez, South Florida Program Coordinator for Solar United Neighbors. “Together, we’re building a movement to transform our electricity system into one that is cleaner, fairer, and shares its benefits more broadly.” After a competitive bidding process facilitated by SUN, which remains vendor neutral, Co-Op members will select a single solar company to complete the installations. Joining the Co-Op does not obligate members to purchase solar. Instead, members will have the option to individually purchase panels and electric vehicle chargers based on the installer’s group rate. Why Join A Solar Co-Op? “I am a five-year solar supporter. I purchased our first 5 kWh array on my own and the research was exhausting and confusing,” said Jack Vesey, resident of Coconut Creek and member of the 2019 Broward Solar Co-Op. “Fast forward to our first SUN Broward Solar Co-Op in 2019 and I was able to make a clear and informed decision. The installer was great to work with. This is the way to go!" The Co-Op is free to join and open to homeowners and business owners in Broward County. • My Father, Sidney Liebowitz Had Unique Talents | sun-times

My Father, Sidney Liebowitz Had Unique Talents By Ira Liebowitz Apr 23, 2026 My Dad Had Gifted Hands. He Could Fix Just About Anything Made Of Nuts, Bolts, Wood, Iron, Wires, Or Turquoise. He was also gifted in other ways. On a shelf in our home sat a model airplane made of balsa wood. Painted blue and gray, it had an unusual triangular shape. There, in my room all the time, was essentially the prototype for the stealth bomber. My dad also pursued lapidary work (the art of cutting, shaping, and polishing stones, minerals, and gemstones into jewelry or decorative items) and silversmithing. His exquisite jewelry—bolos, rings, and other pieces—were things the neighbors would admire. A generous man, he gave away many of his creations. In my apartment, a wooden box holds an elegant bolo that I wear on special occasions. On the back of the silver are the initials “S.L.,” which stand for Sidney Liebowitz, but also for “Silver Leaf.” Dad adopted this name much like a writer uses a pen name. He respected Native American traditions and became, in a sense, a Jewish cowboy. My father also had strong street smarts. My mother, Rhonda, and I often turned to him for advice on everything, and ninety-nine percent of the time he was right. He was frequently correct about politics as well. In the spring of 2003, Dad dictated a letter of advice to President Bush, urging him to keep U.S. troops at home to guard the borders and not invade Iraq. To our surprise and joy, the president responded immediately. That framed letter now hangs on my mother’s dining room wall. In our view, President Bush should have taken my dad’s advice. My father, Sidney Liebowitz. Previous Next
