  • Call the Right Number to Get the Right Help in Hollywood

Call the Right Number to Get the Right Help in Hollywood December 29, 2022 Share Broward County’s Regional Communications System provides critical tools to our law enforcement and fire rescue community. The same call-takers and dispatchers that answer emergency calls to 911, also answer the police and fire non-emergency number (954.764.4357). Unnecessary calls to the non-emergency number increases the load on staff that is relied upon to respond quickly and accurately to true emergency calls. Help to reduce the number of unnecessary calls by knowing what number to call. In an emergency, call 9-1-1. For instances that require law or fire/EMS dispatch but do not require an immediate response call: 954.764.4357. The police and fire non-emergency number is not to be used to obtain general information, request a police report, or report code compliance issues. It should be used to report a minor vehicle accident with no injuries or hazards, report identity theft, or report stolen items when a suspect is not on the scene. City of Hollywood Directory To report a water main break, water outage, sewer emergency, or storm water issue, please call: 954.921.3046. This is the same number to call to report these issues after hours, on weekends and holidays. For roads that are impassable due to street-level flooding, please call: 954.764.4357 and for utility billing or water service interruptions, call Public Utilities Customer Service at: 954.921.3938 during normal business hours (Monday through Thursday from 7am to 6pm). To report issues with short-term/vacation rental properties, call: 954.231.2375 and to report issues with garbage or recycling collections, call: 954.967.4200. For City of Hollywood General Information, please call: 954.967.4357 or visit the City’s website for additional information, a staff directory and links to the Hollywood Connect “request for service” application: http://www.hollywoodfl.org/ < Previous News Next News >

  • 96-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Demands Return Of Looted Family Art In Historic Public Statement | sun-times

96-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Demands Return Of Looted Family Art In Historic Public Statement Jewish Connection News Aug 15, 2025 In An Extraordinary Interview Now Published On The Times Of Israel Blog (https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/survivor-uncovers-hungarys-holocaust-art-theft/), 96-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Clara Garbon-Radnoti Has Issued An Uncompromising Call For The Return Of All Holocaust-Era Looted Art Still Held By Hungarian Museums. Clara’s Voice Is A Rare, Living Link To Those Who Survived Both The War And The Theft Of Their Family’s Cultural Heritage. Clara lost two paintings by renowned Hungarian artists Mihály Munkácsy and János Vaszary during the Nazi occupation of Hungary. She spent nearly 20 years translating 180 reels of Hungarian wartime records at the Zekelman Holocaust Center outside Detroit. These documents expose the systematic, state-orchestrated looting of Jewish-owned art in 1944 — including works by Raphael, Rembrandt, Sisley, Munkácsy, and Vaszary — and identify the Jewish families from whom the art was stolen, as well as the institutions that received it. Working in partnership with Jonathan H. Schwartz, attorney and co-founder of the Holocaust Art Recovery Initiative, Clara’s work has produced a documented map of stolen artworks and other property and their last known locations. The evidence demonstrates that Hungarian museums, universities, libraries, and government agencies not only participated in but still benefit from this organized theft. Clara’s message is unequivocal: “It’s not yours. And I’m ready to fight for it.” Schwartz, who has used AI tools and legal expertise to cross-reference names and track artworks, underscores the urgency: “We are running out of time. The moral obligation to return this property is clear, and the law provides only a short window for claims.” The Holocaust Art Recovery Initiative calls on the Hungarian government and cultural institutions to return all looted works, not merely provide documentation or engage in limited discussions. Clara’s demand is for complete restitution — a call echoed by survivors, historians, and advocates worldwide. About the Holocaust Art Recovery Initiative (HARI): HARI is dedicated to documenting, publicizing, and pursuing the restitution of cultural property stolen during the Holocaust. Through legal advocacy, research, and public awareness, HARI works to restore dignity to survivors and their families by securing the return of looted art and artifacts. • City of Hallandale Beach Appoints New Chief of Police

City of Hallandale Beach Appoints New Chief of Police June 9, 2022 Share Last month, the Hallandale Beach City Manager, Dr. Jeremy Earle appointed Michel Michel (pronounced Michael Michael) as the new Chief of the Hallandale Beach Police Department (HBPD). Chief Michel has served the Hallandale Beach community for the last 20 years. His childhood, family life, and career are rooted in South Florida. Chief Michel served in the United States Navy, earned his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, and graduated from several prestigious command institutes, including the Southern Police Institute's Command Officers Development Class 60, the Police Executive Research Forum's (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Florida Leadership Academy Class 6. Chief Michel began his career with the Hallandale Beach Police Department in 2002; during his tenure, he has served as a Patrol Officer, Marine Patrol Officer, and Detective. In 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, supervising Uniform Patrol and then the Traffic Unit. In 2011, Chief Michel was promoted to Captain, where he supervised the Community Involvement Unit (CIU), the Investigation Services Division (ISD), and Vice Intelligence and Narcotics (VIN) Unit. In 2017, Chief Michel was promoted as Deputy Chief and, in October 2021, appointed as Interim Chief. In addition, Chief Michel served as the Commander of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, Special Events Administrator, Honor Guard, and has received multiple awards for Meritorious Service, Team Citations, and earned Supervisor of the Year in 2009. Under Chief Michel's leadership, the top priorities will be a renewed commitment to community engagement, the cultivation of a data-driven policing culture, a continued pledge to remain at the forefront of the latest innovative approaches in policing technology and enhancing HBPD employee morale. "During the Pandemic, community outreach was limited to the Safe Neighborhood Districts and Quadrant Safety Board meetings. Now is the time for the HBPD to reconnect and heighten our engagement with the community. Innovation in community policing and crime prevention will foster confidence in our police department to protect and serve Hallandale Beach residents and constituents," says Chief Michel. Some of the key community-oriented initiatives include reinstituting the community education classes that promote citizen self-defense and anti-victimization, and Command Staff Neighborhood Walks, where members of the command staff walk through neighborhoods throughout the City and listen to citizens during the annual National Night Out Event. The HBPD has recently invested in technological crime-fighting tools such as License Plate Readers, CCTVs, ShotSpotter (gunshot detection service), Fingerprint Readers, Drones, and Crime Mapping Software to better decipher crime activity and drive policing operations. Technological tools enhance police response and act as a force multiplier. An equally integral part of Chief Michel's vision is to invest in the organization's most valuable resource, the HBPD employees. "All of our employees must be properly equipped, sufficiently prepared, and trained to perform their duties at the highest level. To provide the finest service to our community, HBPD employees need to be connected to the department's mission and invested in its future. A professional and enthusiastic work environment is paramount to the ongoing success of the HBPD," says Chief Michel. Chief Michel was sworn in on June 1, 2022, in the Hallandale Beach Commission Chambers. • Make Holiday Memories With Sweet Eats

Make Holiday Memories With Sweet Eats Family Features December 15, 2022 Share Whether your festivities include immediate family or bringing together relatives from around the country, the holidays are about making memories with loved ones and one of the first signs that the holiday season has arrived at our home is the smell of freshly baked treats in the air. From the first days of the season to the last, many families spend their precious time together with favorite activities and the best foods the holidays have to offer. There are many traditions during the holidays but few are as rewarding as baking with the family. Sometimes, parents can find it overwhelming to integrate the kids into the process of baking. I used to be this mom, but now I say, embrace the mess! Learning is messy, but also so memorable. Kitchens are easy to clean, but little ones are only little for a short time. Teaching kids and relatives how to bake is a great way to connect with them; it also creates the perfect opportunity to pass on family-favorite recipes to the next generation. This year, in addition to passing along those family-favorite recipes you can change things up and start new traditions with a fresh ingredient like Envy apples, which provide an easy way to update classics due to their sweet taste and availability. The sweet, sophisticated flavor; uplifting, fresh aroma; delightfully satisfying crunch; beautiful appearance and naturally white flesh that doesn't brown as quickly as other apples all lend themselves to shareable recipes like this Apple Wreath Salad or Roasted Apple Macaroni and Cheese, both perfect for holiday parties. Because cherished memories are made with sweet ingredients, you can turn cozy movie nights into festive and memorable events year after year by pairing Hallmark Channel's popular "Countdown to Christmas" holiday movies with delicious desserts like Apple Custard Sponge Trifle and Brown Butter Apple Pie. In a large bowl, stir sliced Apples, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Salt, Vanilla and Flour using spatula. Pour browned Butter over Apples and mix, scraping skillet with rubber spatula to incorporate brown Butter bits. Place frozen Pie Shell on a baking sheet. Add 2 cups of Apple mixture into the shell, gently pressing Apple slices for even base. Add remaining Apple slices and gently press. Sprinkle the Streusel Topping evenly over the Apples. Cook for 1 minute, stirring frequently. Whisk in Heavy Cream and Milk; bring to boil, whisking frequently so Milk doesn't burn. Once boiling, turn heat to low and whisk in Cheddar Cheese, Romano Cheese, Gruyere Cheese, Salt and Worcestershire. Continue whisking until the cheese is melted thoroughly. Carefully pour mixture into a large blender and blend on high until smooth. Pour Cheese sauce over Noodles and stir. Pour Macaroni and Cheese into a 9-by-13-inch pan and spread evenly. Heat oven to broil. To make topping: In a medium bowl, melt Butter and stir in Panko Breadcrumbs. Sprinkle bread crumbs over macaroni and cheese; broil until golden brown.
