  • Teacher Seeks Community Support - Miami Software Engineer Battles Aggressive Cancer During Holiday Season Of Giving

Teacher Seeks Community Support - Miami Software Engineer Battles Aggressive Cancer During Holiday Season Of Giving December 19, 2024 Share Miami Software Engineering Teacher Who Has Changed Numerous Lives Now Battles Aggressive Cancer, Seeks Community Support During Holiday Season of Giving As we enter the holiday season, a time for generosity and giving back, one Miami resident who has dedicated his career to transforming lives is now facing the battle of his own life. Dustin Hurtt, a beloved member of the Miami community and a passionate teacher of web development and software engineering, is fighting aggressive Cancer and is reaching out for support during this challenging time. Dustin, who has helped countless individuals change their lives and careers through his work as a former teacher at Ironhack, underwent a Pneumonectomy (Lung Removal Surgery) at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City earlier this year. Although initially thought to have removed all detectable Cancerous Tissues, his Oncologist at Mount Sinai has since discovered that a small amount of Cancer remains, necessitating innovative and costly treatment options. One such option is a Phase I trial set up by the Jaime Leandro Foundation, which offers hope but comes at a significant financial cost. Dustin is currently raising funds through a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the expenses associated with these life-saving treatments, which are not currently covered by insurance. "Over the years, I've had the privilege of witnessing numerous lives transformed through my work as a teacher," Dustin shares. "Many of my students have gone on to build successful careers in tech, and knowing that I played a role in their journey has been incredibly fulfilling. Now, as I face my own battle with Cancer, I am drawing strength from the focus and determination I've seen in my students." Dustin's impact on his students and the Miami community has been profound. Several of his graduates have contributed comments to Dustin's qualities as both an instructor and a person. "Dustin’s guidance at Ironhack didn’t just teach me to code—it unlocked a career I once thought was out of reach, thanks to his rare blend of patience, insight, and belief in his students. His dedication to our growth inspired me to pursue my goals with a new sense of purpose and determination" - Nikita Valovyy of the Miami area. "Dustin was an amazing mentor and incredible human being. I am extremely grateful for his wisdom, dedication, and commitment to his students and profession. The impact he's had on our lives is immense." - Juan Camilo Reyes, of the Miami area. "During my time at Ironhack, Dustin Hurtt’s instruction was invaluable. He demonstrated incredible patience and professionalism and had a talent for helping us view problems from different angles. Whenever we were stuck, he went above and beyond to guide us forward. He was the kind of instructor who matched our effort—if you gave your best, he gave you all the support you needed to succeed, without compromise. His guidance, both during and after the bootcamp, had a profound impact on my career. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his mentorship and dedication." - Alexander Torres Rivera of San Juan, Puerto Rico. "Dustin is the kind of teacher who goes above and beyond for his students. His passion for coding is contagious, and he has a unique ability to empathize with his students, making complex concepts feel approachable. Dustin’s dedication and support have been instrumental in shaping my career, and giving me the confidence and skills to succeed in the tech industry." - Michael Vu of the San Francisco Bay area. Despite the challenges he faces, Dustin remains hopeful and committed to fighting for his life and continuing to make a positive impact on others. "I am afraid to die," he admits openly. "But I am determined to find meaning and purpose in my journey. I want to continue 'doing good' in all aspects of my life, whether through my work or otherwise." As the holiday season of giving begins, Dustin is grateful for the love, prayers, and contributions from his community. He is deeply appreciative of any financial contributions, Social Media shares, or thoughts and prayers as he navigates this difficult time. Stephanie Menjivar, also a former colleague at Ironhack said, "Cancer is a disease we all hope to never face, yet it impacts so many lives unexpectedly," says Stephanie Menjivar, a former colleague at Ironhack. "Dustin, a selfless educator who has helped countless students launch careers in technology, is now fighting this battle. During this season of giving, I encourage anyone who values teachers, technology, and the power of community to support his campaign. The world needs more people like Dustin, who dedicate their lives to helping others." • Feeling ‘Fine’ Is Not Good Enough: Expert Offers Tips For Elevating Health And Wellness

Feeling ‘Fine’ Is Not Good Enough: Expert Offers Tips For Elevating Health And Wellness April 4, 2024 Share For more than 20 years, personal trainer and functional health coach Daniella Dayoub Forrest has listened as clients described their struggles with yo-yo dieting, fitness fads and the ever-changing landscape of nutritional supplements. Too often, the results they were seeking proved elusive, and they lost hope and forward momentum. Stuck in their wellness journeys, they had settled for feeling just “fine” until they found Dayoub Forrest. “Our culture has normalized ‘fine’ as the threshold for wellness,” Dayoub Forrest said. “We deserve better! We should aim to wake up every morning feeling comfortable in our bodies, confident in our capabilities and ready to take on the day.” In her new book, Own Your Wellness: Giving You the Tools to Break Through Your Health Plateaus, Dayoub Forrest provides readers with the individualized approach she’s long used with her clients to help them successfully break out of their ruts and take ownership of their wellness journeys. “Attaining wellness is not a one-size-fits-all process but rather a unique, personalized path that is constantly evolving,” she said. In her book, she provides readers with tools, tips and strategies to create unique health and wellness plans that can be adapted and fine-tuned for a lifetime of effective transformation. Given today’s glut of health information and easy-to-find advice, Dayoub Forrest has found that most people don’t know how to assess whether a diet or fitness routine is right for them. She writes: “I’ll help you figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. You’ll learn to assess when things need tweaking and when to pull back your efforts. Your wellness is unique and ever-changing. The diet and exercise routine you did in your twenties probably isn’t going to cut it in your sixties. Just because your friend lost thirty pounds on the keto diet doesn’t mean you will.” Dayoub Forrest’s comprehensive approach embraces change and fits within any lifestyle program, such as paleo, keto, vegetarian or macro. She focuses on four foundational aspects of health — Nourish (Nutrition), Move (Exercise), Explore (Uncover the Best You) and Enhance (Supplementation) — and provides worksheets and exercises so readers can personalize each category’s tips and strategies into actionable steps that lead to success. In the book, she shares: • Simple and easy-to-follow advice on approaching food through the lens of supporting long-term health and personalized goals. Do you want to maintain lean muscle mass or drop 50 pounds? Depending on your end goal, your dietary choices will be different. • A sustainable and adaptable exercise program for all ages and fitness levels. • Comprehensive analysis on how to track and monitor your unique health issues, as well as advice on how to approach testing. • Detailed information about supplements, vitamins and minerals, as well as what to ask before taking them. Own Your Wellness will help readers break through health plateaus and create a cohesive and actionable plan for every stage of their wellness journey. “The goal should not be to stay the same,” Dayoub Forrest writes. “The goal should be to constantly shift your methods to help you embrace the new version of yourself.” The Author Daniella Dayoub Forrest is a personal trainer and health coach who has worked in health and wellness for over two decades, including many years in Silicon Valley. She helps clients navigate ever-changing health and wellness advice and distill it into actionable, personalized plans. She has helped people of all ages, disease states and states of mind understand that wellness strategies must constantly evolve and change. Her role as a mom, wife and entrepreneur, as well as her own battles with health issues including: an Eating Disorder, Osteoporosis, Amenorrhea, major injuries and rehabilitation, have shaped her philosophy toward health and wellness. • 2024 State of The City: From City of Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy

2024 State of The City: From City of Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy jlevy@hollywoodfl.org January 31, 2024 Share Hello There, Hollywood Residents. Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to present the State of the City Address to the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, an invitation that the chamber extends to Hollywood's mayor at the start of each new year. In this year's address, I highlighted the many ways we are working to achieve our city’s mission: "To provide a thriving community, where quality living and the opportunity for success is made available to all." These are exciting times for Hollywood. We have a stronger and structurally balanced annual budget, and through that, we are continuing to usher in major improvements for our city's neighborhoods, parks, roadways, public safety, infrastructure, stormwater management, environmental resiliency, housing affordability and much more. To learn more, you can watch the complete State of the City at the video link: https://youtu.be/WE3C8TZ1Eqk?si=FoKuESEBm2cZ26Xo My discussion begins with a report on our city’s financial health, which is a critical component to the quality of life that a city can provide for its residents. For 2024, I was happy to report that through our continuing commitment to sound financial administration and governance that is future-oriented, our Operating Budget for 2024 is at a record $779 Million Dollars and it is again structurally balanced. Our citywide taxable property values are now at a record $23.2 Billion Dollars, which is up a very strong 11% over last year, and up 75% since I was elected in 2016. And together with our commitment to maintaining recommended levels of reserves, higher bond ratings and controlling expenses, we are on track to see our city flourish and able to reinvest back into our community, without burdening residents with higher taxes. We’ll see significant improvements to our parks with new playgrounds, fields, lighting, pathways, computers, fitness equipment, pickleball courts and basketball courts, dog parks and more. For our Water and Wastewater Utilities infrastructure, we are in the midst of massive injection well projects that will end the disposal of treated wastewater into the ocean. We’ll continue neighborhood watermain replacements and expanding the sewer system where we can, and we’ll continue upgrading our stormwater system to improve our city’s drainage given it no longer delivers an adequate level of service for a community experiencing changing climate conditions. Lots of work is needed in this area. We have many roadway resurfacing, streetlighting and sidewalk improvement projects ahead. Our voter approved General Obligation Bond projects are also progressing. We’ll break ground on the new Police Headquarters this year, beginning construction of tidal flooding mitigation and sea walls, renewed city golf courses, neighborhood traffic calming, planting more trees and new landscaping, beautification and much more. These are exciting times for Hollywood. We will be entering our city's centennial year in 2025, celebrating 100 years of Hollywood in better financial health, with a future for Hollywood that is physically safer, operationally better, environmentally greener and more sustainable, commercially stronger, visually more appealing, residentially more desirable and historically prouder. Together, we will continue to do great things. Best to everyone in the New Year, Mayor Josh Levy < Previous News Next News >

  • What Is Police Accreditation? Sunny Isles Beach Accreditation Team Invites Public Comments

What Is Police Accreditation? Sunny Isles Beach Accreditation Team Invites Public Comments www.sibfl.net August 3, 2023 Share A team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) will arrive on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023, to examine all aspects of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department must comply with numerous standards in order to receive accreditation status. Many of the standards are critical to both life and health as well as safety issues and overall best practices. As part of the assessment, agency members and the general public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. A copy of the standards manual is available under the standards tab on the CFA’s website at: www.flaccreditation.org For more information regarding CFA or for persons wishing to offer written comments about the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department’s ability to meet the standards of accreditation, please send correspondence to: CFA, Post Office Box#: 1489, Tallahassee, Florida 32302. Or email to: flaccreditation@fdle.state.fl.us . The Accreditation Program Manager for the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department is Mr. Doug Robertson. According to Mr. Robertson, the assessment team will be composed of assessors from similar agencies to that of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals within the agency, and visit offices and other areas within the department where compliance can be observed. Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report the findings of their assessment to the full Commission, which then determines if the agency is to receive accredited or reaccredited status. The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department’s accreditation is valid for three years. Verification by the team that Sunny Isles Beach Police meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain and then maintain accreditation – “A highly prized recognition of professional excellence.” Sunny Isles Beach Police Chief Edward Santiago said. To offer your comments contact: Sergeant Melissa Porro, Sunny Isles Beach Public Information Officer at: 18070 Collins Avenue Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160. The office number is: (305) 792-1886. Or via Dispatch at: (305) 947-4440. A Message From Sunny Isles Beach Police Chief Edward Santiago A member of the community (and good friend) asked me a simple question, “what is police accreditation?” It was then I knew that it needed to be explained to the community. The community has been served since 1998 by a group of dedicated and well trained officers from various backgrounds. These officers have always strived to be professional and compassionate. How does the police department improve upon such a dedicated workforce? The answer – accreditation. This is a major project that will take several years to complete, but will be the most worthwhile investment the agency has ever made. To obtain accredited status is a significant accomplishment that we will achieve. Read on to better understand the meaning of police accreditation and why it is needed. The Florida Legislature enacted Florida State Statute 943.125, which provided the framework for the accreditation of public safety agencies to include Law Enforcement. Essentially it defines the purpose of accreditation, who will manage the process, and what aspects of Law Enforcement need to be addressed. The purpose of Law Enforcement Accreditation per state statute is to “maximize the capability of Law Enforcement agencies to enforce the law and control criminal activities.” This is accomplished by voluntarily adopting standards that are designed to enhance the professionalism of the agency. It was important to the Legislature that this process was managed by an independent entity. It could not be a Law Enforcement Agency who is responsible for the oversight and administration of the accreditation of agencies. The Legislature also decided the accreditation program must address at a minimum the following: Vehicle Pursuits, Seizure and Forfeiture of Contraband Articles, Recording and Processing Citizen Complaints, Use Of Force, Traffic Stops, Handling Natural and Man-Made Disasters, Special Operations, Prisoner Transfer, Collection and Preservation of Evidence, Recruitment and Selection, Officer Training, Performance Standards, Law Enforcement Disciplinary Procedures and Rights, Use of Criminal Investigative Funds, and Access to and use of Personal Identification Information. Once the standards are adopted by the agency’s Chief Executive, they become a guide for officers. It gives them direction, which enhances their confidence and effectiveness. These standards are always available electronically to the officers. It provides clear and concise guidance on various issues they may encounter while working. If I were reading this article, the next question I would ask is how close is the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department to achieving accredited status? Fair question. I was made your Chief of Police on April 4, 2022. At the May 2022 Commission Meeting I brought your elected officials an agreement with Doug Robertson, an accreditation manager with 32 years of accreditation experience, to achieve accredited status for our agency. He is also a former Chief of Police and current accreditation manager of a local agency with a stellar reputation. I thought it was important to have an outside manager look at our practices and enhance them to conform with accreditation standards. The agreement provided a blueprint on how to achieve accreditation. His contract is financed through forfeited funds acquired from drug investigations from our detached detectives. This contract is not an added expense for taxpayers. The first step was to sign a formal agreement with the accrediting agency, the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation. I signed the agreement on June 1, 2022, and Mr. Robertson went to work. Since signing the agreement, we are 97% complete with policy development and 66% complete with our internal review of the polices. Once the policies are completed and conform to the accreditation standards, we will begin to document compliance with the standards. Moving forward, we have a goal of scheduling a “mock assessment” of our agency in August 2023. During this mock assessment, assessors will come to the agency and evaluate our revamped policies and practices to determine if they will pass a formal assessment. The next goal would be to have the formal on-site assessment in September 2023. Once this is complete, we will be presented to the accrediting entity in hopes of becoming formally accredited. I hope this explains the importance of police accreditation. As your Chief of Police, I will do everything I can to continue to offer the community a well-trained and professional police force. Accreditation will just support and optimize the service you have been accustomed to. Credit: https://www.sibfl.net/police-accreditation/ < Previous News Next News >

  • Outsourcing City Services: Hallandale Beach Budget Stabilization - Privatization Vs. In-House Services

Outsourcing City Services: Hallandale Beach Budget Stabilization - Privatization Vs. In-House Services By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper May 26, 2022 Share This Article is Part III of my State Of The City. It is written in Speech Form. It was delivered In-Person and hosted by The Chamber of Commerce at the Flamingo Room located at Gulfstream Park. I am continuing with Budget Stabilization proposals and discussions of privatization Vs. In-House Services. At that meeting I also brought up once more the issue of outsourcing our Fire Department. These moves always create unintended consequences. This issue came with a minimum $1.4 Million Dollars cost that we know of. Many contract cities have been holding meetings to find the underlying cause of the costs. Cities like Pembroke Park are even getting out of their BSO Police Contracts. They are simply not sustainable. It has been extremely difficult to get information as we do not control BSO Staff. The Commission thought that we would get better service and more coverage but actually we received a Safer Fire Grant to add Staffing. Just to be clear, while we pay the contract, we still pay for Fire Equipment, Trucks, Building Improvements and still must pay Legacy Pension Dollars. The Fire Fees on our Taxes help to offset the building and equipment costs. The rest comes from our General Fund. Simply put it is not about boots on the ground, our First Responders are amazing! We are paying to have someone else manage that Department. As part of our Stabilization Program, we are rolling out a new Certificate Of Use Program this year. This Program will help us to know who specifically owns properties. We have been spending Staff Time and Resources trying to track down owners of properties. While every new building gets an Original CO (certificate of occupancy) Properties can change hands, we need to make sure each building is used for its intended purpose. The Registration will give Staff tools to help Code Enforcement. Which we have been beefing up. Sadly, over the past years Staffing Levels were cut. Since COVID-19, we have added positions and we have a new Director, Mitch Posner. While it is counterintuitive to add positions in a struggling budget it is actually better. The nature of Violations and Fines generate Revenue to pay for the positions. There is another issue that has shown a bright light on how vital Code Enforcement is; The tragedy of Champlain Towers in Surfside. South Florida at least has a Building Safety Program. The problem is that cities were not following through and even if they were, the condominiums were not maintaining the buildings nor paying for much needed repairs. I was fortunate to serve on the Broward County Building Safety Taskforce that was established by Broward County Mayor Steve Geller. We were one of many groups looking at these regulations and how they could be improved. Sadly, the State Legislators did not make any changes. Many counties around the State are now taking the issues on themselves. On the National Level, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Congressman Charlie Christ have proposed a Bill to help Low-Income Seniors with finding a source to pay for Condominium Repairs. The new Program would allow borrowers to apply for Loans up to $55,000 and other modifications through The Housing And Urban Development Department. This still does not address inspections nor the shortage of Inspectors. Our Building Staff has not stopped over the past two years. Remember this was not part of the COVID-19 Pandemic’s Restrictions. Our Department just keeps having more work and duties. We understand how important these services are and continue to make improvements. We have fully upgraded to an On-Line system. All Permits now can be done from start to finish without even going into City Hall. I mentioned earlier about Staffing. In this Department in particular even before COVID-19 we had empty positions. Once again, not filling positions where fees for service pay for building which is not a good management practice. Staff continues to fill positions but there is simply a shortage of inspectors. Even with Contracting outside Providers, it is still a challenge. This is where Residents and Businesses can help us help you. First you cannot do anything without a Permit. The last thing you want to do is, as they say, ask for forgiveness rather than permissions. Hire only trained, Licensed Contractors and Professionals. YES, There is a process. Permits are filed and they go into a Review Cycle. If there is missing information, the Permit must go through the Cycle again. I have seen this happen over and over again. The Contractor blames us, but in reality, they should know the requirements. I know that last year I was getting a call or E-Mail a day about Building Permits which have calmed down a bit. What is really great about the On-Line System is just that! Everything is On-Line, so you can see what is missing and what the Contractor needs to do! Our Building Official Shellie Jackson, is an extremely knowledgeable, professional individual who is actually a successful Contractor in her own right. I have seen her and Our Staff often going above and beyond what is required. I will continue with State Of The City in next week's Article. As always, feel free to contact me anytime with your questions, concerns and ideas on how to make our City a great place to live, work and play! I am available by Phone or Text At: (954) 632-5700. Potential board members must be Aventura residents of high school age. Potential board members must be Aventura residents of high school age and be actively enrolled in a public or private high school for the 2021/2022 school year. Applicants must be willing to make a commitment during the school year, attend meetings as scheduled, and participate in other volunteer opportunities as offered. The Board consists of seven members appointed by the Mayor, subject to approval of the City Commission. The mission of the Board is to assist the City of Aventura in educational, civic, and community events and activities. Additional information on the Board can be found in the adopted Ordinance (No. 2017-03), available at cityofaventura.com. Want to Make a Difference, What Is a Youth Advisory Board? A youth advisory board (YAB) is a body of young people appointed by an organization to inform and advise policies and practices that directly impact them. It is important for these kinds of boards to exist. They provide an array of personal experiences, as opposed to just using heuristics, to shape systems and services—but for that to be effective, people must get involved. Drawing from research from previous board member experiences, it’s worth participating on a YAB. YABs are formed because organizations have made the decision to listen to youth. You learn so much thanks to YABs: about systems, about services, about people and programs. More enlightening than anything else, however, is the things you’ll learn about yourself during all this. Being on a YAB just might help you figure out where you’ve been, and where you’re going. But the only way to learn is to find out. Applications can be completed exclusively online at https://www.cityofaventura.com/FormCenter/City-Commission-Advisory-Boards-8/Youth-Advisory-Board-Application-Form-20-71 For more information, please contact the Office of the City Clerk at 305-466-8901 or via email to cityclerk@cityofaventura.com . < Previous News Next News >

  • The Most Influential Rabbi In History - 30 Years Later…

The Most Influential Rabbi In History - 30 Years Later… By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil July 11, 2024 Share The 3rd of Tamuz, this year on Tuesday, July 9th, marks the 30th Hilula of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Known affectionately and simply as The Rebbe, he was probably the most influential Rabbi in history. With his Shluchim emissaries dispatched to every corner of the world, his impact is felt everywhere you turn. After the decimation of the Holocaust, the Rebbe breathed new life and vitality into the Jewish people, urging them (and demonstrating by example) to celebrate Judaism and live life optimistically, to ‘reclaim’ countless individuals and communities to living a Jewish way of life, and to feel personal responsibility for all others everywhere. In so doing, The Rebbe altered the much-prophesied demise of Judaism, forever shifting the course of history and transforming the landscape of Jewish life. The Rebbe took breathtaking responsibility for the material and spiritual welfare of Jews in the Soviet Union (including masterminding the exodus of thousands), Morocco, Iran, and more, while reaching out to Jews in Curacao, Japan, and Alaska... Israel’s leaders turned to the Rebbe for counsel on public health policies; military strategy; economy; relations with the U.S., Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia and more; and, above all, its educational system. Growing up in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, just a few short streets away from The Rebbe, I was fortunate to see The Rebbe all the time. I prayed with him in his Shul, sang by his Farbrengens, stood at his public gatherings and rallies, and watched every glimpse I could. As a child, I would look around at the thousands of people that would constantly come from all over the world to seek his counsel, hear his talks, or just to see his holy face; and I remember thinking how privileged I was to live right there. Every Sunday for hours,The Rebbe would stand, giving out dollars and blessings to thousands of people from all walks of life. He gave the dollar to be given to a charity of choice. People would of course exchange that dollar for one of their own to give to charity, and keep the dollar they got from The Rebbe’s holy hand as a sign of blessing. The Rebbe was remarkably accessible and counseled countless individuals from a wide array of backgrounds, including statesmen and artists as diverse as Ronald Reagan, Robert F. Kennedy, Yitzchak Rabin, Menachem Begin, Elie Wiesel, and Bob Dylan, as well as countless “nameless” individuals who were each showered with his individual attention and love. He spoke out about and was active in large public issues like public school education, charity for employees’ distribution, large families, moral education, the energy crisis, a universal moral code for all, creating and bolstering the Food Stamp/WIC System for America’s underprivileged, the responsibility of government, and much more. He believed and taught that the age-old ideals and text of Torah is as real and relevant today as it was at Sinai, over 3,300 years ago. Today, thank G-d, The Rebbe’s teachings and ideals have already become ingrained in our society and inspire millions of Jews and non-Jews. More people than ever are learning his teachings and acting on his wishes of spreading Judaism to Jews, and moral ethics to all people. People of all walks of life flock to his Shul as well as his resting place (known as the Ohel) to pray to G‑d for blessing, guidance and inspiration. In 2013, on the night preceding his election to the Senate, Democratic Candidate Cory Booker, an African-American Christian, went to pray at the Rebbe’s Ohel. And in 2016, preceding his election, President Trump sent his family to pray at the Ohel on his behalf. Go there any day, any time, and you will see people from all walks of life praying to G-d at that holy site. The Rebbe was a wide-ranging Torah personality whose vast knowledge spanned the entire spectrum of the Torah. His teachings include ideas in Jewish philosophy and theology, commentary on biblical, talmudical and kabbalistic texts, perspectives on world events, and moral and practical directives. At Chabad Chayil we have a group study of The Rebbe’s teachings each Saturday right after Kiddush lunch, which all are welcome to join and thoroughly enjoy. Although the Rebbe was treated as royalty by all who met him, he personally lived modestly and even frugally. While presiding over a vast world empire of institutions and activity, his own Synagogue was simple and in need of a face lift. As a child I always felt bad how simple his synagogue was, and made a promise to myself that when I can one day afford it, I would rebuild his synagogue in the most beautiful way. Over the next few weeks, thousands of communities worldwide will be marking this holy day with special events. I urge you to contact your local synagogue or Chabad to find out what they have planned, but more importantly to see what extra good deed you can do, to perpetuate the Rebbe’s legacy and make the world a better place. You’re of course invited to join us at The Family Shul for a Special Shabbat Dinner & Lunch honoring the Rebbe, which you can RSVP for at: www.ChabadChayil.org - Or call: (305) 770-1919. We will also be hosting a Farbrengen entitled Defying All Odds, on Monday, July 8th, at 8:45 p.m. at Chabad Chayil. Men, women & children are invited and encouraged to join. If you would like to join a group of South Floridian’s traveling to the Rebbe’s Ohel on the actual Hilula, feel free to reach out. We will, G-d willing, be leaving Florida Tuesday morning and returning the same day. If you are not able to personally attend, but would like to send a letter or have prayers said on your behalf, it would be an honor to do it on your behalf. Reach out via: www.ChabadChayil.org/Contact and we’ll be in touch. Let’s try to emulate even one aspect of The Rebbe, and the energy will grow from there, bringing the world one step closer to perfection, one step at a time. The Rebbe’s 30th Hilula begins the evening of Monday, July 8th and concludes the evening of Tuesday, July 9th, 2024. To learn more about this saintly man, visit: www.ChabadChayil.org/Rebbe About The Author: Rabbi Kievman together with his wife are the ambassadors of The Rebbe to Highland Lakes, FL. They are the founders of Gan Chabad Preschool, your local CTeen & CKids chapters, CHAP - an Afterschool Program for Jewish children in Public Schools and direct Chabad Chayil. He’s the Rabbi at The Family Shul and can be reached at: (305) 770-1919. Or: rabbi@ChabadChayil.org < Previous News Next News >
