  • P.Pole Pizza in Hallandale Beach Offers Creative Twist on Best Pizza in Town

P.Pole Pizza in Hallandale Beach Offers Creative Twist on Best Pizza in Town April 24, 2022 Share The time-honored dish of pizza has an amazing twist in Hallandale Beach that is not to be missed. Created by a millennial, but loved by all ages is the trendy restaurant P.Pole Pizza. The beloved establishment puts your pizza passion to the test as you create your own pie to please your taste buds. This reimagined pizza chain is the answer to finding pies which cater to gluten free and organic tastes with a vast array of flavors and options. Opened in 2021 by franchise owner Anthony DiCarlo, the Hallandale Beach spot is P.Pole Pizza’s second location in the state of Florida. The original P.Pole Pizza in Coral Gables serves as a launching pad for the famous chain. It changed up the pizza industry with its rectangle-shaped servings and was all started by Parsons School of Design student, Giulia Carniato. Along with her father, Stefano Carniato, they revolutionized the way pies and slices were served. Customers from day one fell in love with the concept restaurant that is now expanding franchises across the USA. With three choices of dough, plus five sauces and over 50 toppings to choose from, you can enjoy mouthwatering pizza in mere minutes – two minutes and five seconds, to be exact. And to add to the deliciously fun element is that pizzas are shaped in the form of a skateboard because it bakes faster in their new, cutting-edge oven where temperatures can reach as high as 800 degrees. "It's all about the customers,” explains DiCarlo about giving customers the unique taste and look of pizza they crave. "Whatever they want on their pizzas, we got it for them." It’s like taking a blank canvas and making an edible Mona Lisa. From tomato to spicy tomato, as well as alfredo, pesto and barbeque, plus seven types of cheese, including a vegan option, you can keep coming back to make all the combos you are craving. Different dough offerings include standard, chia seed infused, and even cauliflower, their gluten free option for people with allergies or those watching their weight. And tasty toppings include pepperoni, cheese, fresh spinach, artichokes, broccoli, grilled onions, jalapeno, mushrooms, sweet peppers and anchovies, just to name a few. "Our pizzas are made fresh to order from scratch and are ready to eat in less than just three minutes. They’re served piping hot and delicious,” states DiCarlo. Additionally, P.Pole gives customers the option of selecting one of their signature pizzas which are also baked in just over two minutes. Scrumptious signature pizza options include the Ameri-can, Italian, Cuban, Veggie, Meat and Barbeque. And best of all you get healthy options that all ages will love. This is not your old-school pizzeria. This is the future of food that will only get bigger and better over time. Customers can also order on the restaurants' app and sign up for their rewards program. For every dollar spent, customers will earn a coin which accumulates over time so that pizza lovers can eventually use these coins towards purchases in the future. P.Pole Pizza has also announced that they will be offering their own delivery services in the near future, but for now, customers can get their creative creations delivered via Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub. • Peruvian Street Food Comes To Downtown Hollywood

Peruvian Street Food Comes To Downtown Hollywood November 2, 2023 Share Private development and a beautiful new streetscape may be stirring up some dust in Downtown Hollywood, but for Giovanna Troullier, owner of Tru Point Burgers & Peruvian Fast Food at 201 North 21st Avenue, Hollywood, Florida 33020, they churned up an opportunity. "I had passed this building many times, and always thought it would be a great place for my future restaurant," said Troullier, who came to Florida from Peru in 2017, "but it always had a tenant." Until the day the "For Lease" sign appeared. "That's my place," said Troullier. And soon after, it was. Within a few weeks, Troullier, assisted by friends, family and her wife, Flavia Figari, who assists her at Tru Point, got to work. They put in a new floor, painted, added some bar games and Star Wars-themed graphics (Troullier is a big Star Wars fan -- the sub-heading of their logo is “May the Taste be With You!”) and, happily, kept the site's original glass bricks. They were ready to open for business. TruPoint's unique combination of American and Peruvian staples was an immediate hit. "People came for the Hamburgers and discovered the Peruvian flavors," said Troullier, "and then they started coming for the Salchipapas and they told their friends, and now we have people coming from all over South Florida because we have the most authentic Salchipapas in town." Salchipapas, for the uninitiated, are a popular Peruvian snack or street food, with a base of French Fries topped with Meat or Chicken and a variety of Peruvian sauces; it's the food Peruvians crave after a long day's work or a long night out. It is, Troullier said, the most popular item on the menu ($11.90 - $15.90), followed by Butifarra, a sandwich of Peruvian-style Ham with a mix of sauces ($12.90). Also very popular is the Royal Burger, an Angus Burger with Ham, Provolone, Fried Egg, Potato Sticks and Onion ($13.90). "I decided to open in Downtown Hollywood because I noticed the many new developments in the area and knew there would be a built-in customer base," explained Troullier. "Tru Point is a healthy and fresh restaurant for all ages, and it’s family-friendly too."" "There are many Peruvian restaurants around, but not with the street food that is very common in Peru," added Figari. "And especially, they tell us, the Salchipapas!" Tru Point Burgers & Peruvian Fast Food is open Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Friday through Monday from 12:00 p.m. Noon to 11:00 p.m. They are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. • The Backdoor Attempt To Rewrite The Constitution: A Healthy Constitutional Republic Requires The Right To Speak Truth To Power

The Backdoor Attempt To Rewrite The Constitution: A Healthy Constitutional Republic Requires The Right To Speak Truth To Power By John & Nisha Whitehead April 4, 2024 Share Tyrants don’t like people who speak truth to power. Cue the rise of protest laws, which take the government’s intolerance for Free Speech to a whole new level and send the resounding message that resistance is futile. In fact, ever since the Capitol protests on January 6th, 2021, State Legislatures have introduced a broad array of these laws aimed at criminalizing protest activities. There have been at least 205 proposed laws in 45 states aimed at curtailing the right to peacefully assemble and protest by expanding the definition of rioting, heightening penalties for existing offenses, or creating new crimes associated with assembly. Weaponized by police, prosecutors, courts and legislatures, these protest laws, along with Free Speech zones, bubble zones, trespass zones, Anti-Bullying Legislation, zero tolerance policies, Hate Crime Laws, and a host of other legalistic maladies have become a convenient means by which to punish individuals who refuse to be muzzled. In Florida, for instance, legislators passed a “no-go” zone law making it punishable by up to 60 days in jail to remain within 25 feet of working police and other first responders after a warning. Yet while the growing numbers of protest laws cropping up across the country are sold to the public as necessary to protect private property, public roads or national security, they are a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a thinly disguised plot to discourage anyone from challenging government authority at the expense of our First Amendment Rights. It doesn’t matter what the source of that discontent might be (police brutality, election outcomes, COVID-19 mandates, the environment, etc.): protest laws, Free Speech zones, no-go zones, bubble zones, trespass zones, Anti-Bullying Legislation, zero tolerance policies, Hate Crime Laws, etc., aim to muzzle every last one of us. To be very clear, these legislative attempts to redefine and criminalize speech are a backdoor attempt to rewrite the Constitution and render the First Amendment’s robust safeguards null and void. No matter how you package these laws, no matter how well-meaning they may sound, no matter how much you may disagree with the protesters or sympathize with the objects of the protest, these proposed laws are aimed at one thing only: discouraging dissent. This is the painful lesson being imparted with every incident in which someone gets arrested and charged with any of the growing number of contempt charges (ranging from resisting arrest and interference to disorderly conduct, obstruction, and failure to obey a police order) that get trotted out anytime a citizen voices discontent with the government or challenges or even questions the authority of the powers-that-be. Journalists have come under particular fire for exercising their right to Freedom Of The Press. According to U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, the criminalization of routine journalism has become a means by which the government chills lawful First Amendment activity. Journalists have been arrested or faced dubious charges for “publishing,” asking too many questions of public officials, being “rude” for reporting during a press conference, and being in the vicinity of public protests and demonstrations. It's gotten so bad that merely daring to question, challenge or hesitate when a cop issues an order can get you charged with resisting arrest or disorderly conduct. For example, College Professor Ersula Ore was slammed to the ground and arrested after she objected to the “disrespectful manner” shown by a campus cop who stopped her in the middle of the street and demanded that she show her ID. Making matters worse, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling in Nieves v. Bartlett that protects police from lawsuits by persons arrested on bogus “contempt of cop” charges (ranging from resisting arrest and interference to disorderly conduct, obstruction, and failure to obey a police order) that result from lawful First Amendment activities (filming police, asking a question of police, refusing to speak with police). These incidents reflect a growing awareness about the state of Free Speech in America: you may have distinct, protected rights on paper, but dare to exercise those rights, and you risk fines, arrests, injuries and even death. Case in point: Tony Rupp, a lawyer in Buffalo, NY, found himself arrested and charged with violating the city’s noise ordinance after cursing at an SUV bearing down on pedestrians on a busy street at night with its lights off. Because that unmarked car was driven by a police officer, that’s all it took for Rupp to find himself subjected to malicious prosecution, First Amendment retaliation and wrongful arrest. The case, as Jesse McKinley writes in The New York Times, is part of a growing debate over “how citizens can criticize public officials at a time of widespread reevaluation of the lengths and limits of Free Speech. That debate has raged everywhere from online forums and college campuses to protests over racial bias in Law Enforcement and the Israel-Hamas War. Book bans and other acts of government censorship have troubled some First Amendment experts. Recently, the Supreme Court heard arguments about a pair of laws — in Florida and Texas — limiting the ability of Social Media companies such as Facebook to ban certain content from their platforms.” Bottom line: what the architects of the police state want are submissive, compliant, cooperative, obedient, meek citizens who don’t talk back, don’t challenge government authority, don’t speak out against government misconduct, and don’t resist. What the First Amendment protects—and a healthy constitutional republic requires—are citizens who routinely exercise their right to speak truth to power. Yet there can be no Free Speech for the citizenry when the government speaks in a language of force. Unfortunately, this is how the government at all levels—federal, state and local—now responds to those who choose to exercise their First Amendment right to speak freely. Remember, the unspoken freedom enshrined in the First Amendment is the right to challenge government agents, think freely and openly debate issues without being muzzled or treated like a criminal. As I point out in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, by muzzling the citizenry, by removing the constitutional steam valves that allow people to speak their minds, air their grievances and contribute to a larger dialogue that hopefully results in a more just world, the government is creating a climate in which violence becomes inevitable. Editor’s Note: John Whitehead is an Attorney and Author who has written, debated and practiced widely in the area of Constitutional Law, Human Rights and Popular Culture. • Rise Of The Underdog: Remarkable Shift Towards Adoption Of Shelter Dogs Over Purebred Purchases

Rise Of The Underdog: Remarkable Shift Towards Adoption Of Shelter Dogs Over Purebred Purchases August 31, 2023 Share In the past, the sight of Purebred Dogs like Dachshunds, Boston Terriers, and French Bulldogs was common in American neighborhoods. However, recently a notable shift in consumers' preferences has steered away from these Purebreds despite their previous popularity. For some, the exorbitant cost of Purebred Dogs, which can reach up to $10,000 for Breeds such as Rottweilers and Chow Chows, is a considerable deterrent. For others, the concern is over health issues commonly associated with Purebreds. English Bulldogs and Pugs, for instance, are often plagued with Respiratory problems. Also, many individuals also feel a moral obligation to provide homes to Shelter Dogs. Bone Voyage Dog Rescue recently conducted a Study revealing a significant shift towards Adopting Shelter Dogs over purchasing Purebreds from Breeders. A Survey of 3,000 potential Dog Owners in Florida revealed that an impressive 45% of them expressed an intent to Adopt from Shelters, marking a 5% swing towards possible Shelter Dog Ownership when contrasted with older data from the Humane Society of the United States, which indicated that 40% of Pet Dogs in households were previously Shelter Dogs. “This increasing trend towards Shelter Dog Adoption promises substantial improvements in the Welfare of Homeless Animals. The shift could lead to a decrease in the number of Dogs in Shelters, as more are adopted,” says Annette Thompson, Executive Director of Bone Voyage Dog Rescue, when commenting on the Study. A state-by-state analysis of the Survey data revealed the strongest preference for Shelter Dog Adoption is in Nebraska, with a remarkable 81% expressing a preference for Shelter Dogs over Purebred Breeds. In Florida 45% of residents surveyed stated they would rather Adopt from their Local Shelter vs purchasing a Dog from a Pet Store or Online. In a complementary Study, Bone Voyage Dog Rescue used Google Search trends to understand the public's interest in Shelter Dogs over the past year. The insights from Google mirrored the Survey data, reinforcing the shift towards Shelter Dog Ownership. Among the top 25 states most interested in Shelter Dog Adoption, 22 demonstrated a marked shift towards this preference, as per the Survey data. Wyoming, for instance, had the highest proportion of Shelter Dog searches, reflecting its second-place ranking in the Survey. Similarly, New Mexico ranked third in Google searches for Shelter Dogs, aligning with its second-place position in the Survey for those most likely to Adopt a Shelter Dog. The rising trend of Shelter Dog Adoption holds considerable potential for improving Animal Welfare in the U.S. This shift could have multi-faceted benefits, creating a ripple effect that extends beyond the lives of the individual Dogs adopted. Decreasing the number of Dogs residing in Shelters is a primary benefit. With more Dogs finding homes, the overall population in Shelters would shrink. Consequently, Shelters would have more resources available per Animal, including space, Staff attention, and Medical Care. This shift would result in better living conditions for the remaining Animals while reducing the strain on Shelter Resources. Secondly, an increase in the Adoption of Shelter Dogs could influence the supply-demand dynamics of the Pet Industry. If consumers choose Adoption over purchasing from Breeders, it might discourage Unethical Breeding Practices, including those prevalent in Puppy Mills. This change would further contribute to enhancing Animal Welfare on a larger scale. Finally, each adopted Dog's individual Quality Of Life would likely see significant improvements. Home environments typically offer more space, personal attention, and stability than Shelters. Adopted Dogs receive consistent Care, Training, and Socialization Opportunities, leading to better Physical Health and Behavioral outcomes. This transformation enriches the adopted Dog's Life and can bring immeasurable joy and companionship to the family adopting. “This rising trend of adoption not only promises a brighter future for Shelter Dogs but also signifies a broader cultural shift towards responsible Pet Ownership and empathy towards Animal Welfare,” adds Thompson. “The data certainly supports the trend, and it’s a trend that would have immense impact across the Animal Welfare Field.” Looking To Adopt? If you are looking to Adopt a Pet the Humane Society of Broward County is the place to visit. Here are a couple of possible family members for you to go see, you just might find the love of your life. Sweet Diego is an energetic 3-year-old fellow who gets the zoomies when he first goes outside. Once he runs and plays a bit, he settles down and just wants to be with you and get lots of pets. Diego even enjoyed lounging in the kiddie pool to cool off, so if you have a pool, you might find him swimming in it. He weighs about 47 pounds, and the Staff say he walks well on a leash and when he was spending time with them at the front desk, Diego was a perfect gentleman. If you have a dog at a home, a meet and greet would be recommended just to make sure everyone gets along. Thanks to a Dog lover, Diego’s Adoption Fee has been Sponsored – he just needs a chance. Will you be the one that gives him that? If you’re looking for a Feline friend, then 8-year-old Oscar would love to go home with you. Sadly, his owner died and now he is all alone. Oscar previously lived with Dogs, so if you have one or two and they like Cats, with a slow introduction, everyone will hopefully get along. He will need time to adjust to his new home, so please give him time to settle into his new place. Thanks to Cat lovers at Real Res, they have kindly Sponsored Oscar’s Adoption Fee. To meet Diego (ID 669775), Oscar (ID 671904) or any other pet at the Humane Society of Broward County, complete the pre-adoption application at: www.humanebroward.com and then stop by. The shelter is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33312 and the Adoption Kennels open daily at 11:00 a.m. If you have any questions, call: (954) 989-3977.
