  • Messages From Sunny Isles Beach Commissioner Jerry Joseph: Adhering to the New July 1, 2024 Laws: Condo Transparency and Administration & Safety in Sunny Isles Beach

Messages From Sunny Isles Beach Commissioner Jerry Joseph: Adhering to the New July 1, 2024 Laws: Condo Transparency and Administration & Safety in Sunny Isles Beach By Jerry Joseph, Commissioner - www.sibfl.net August 22, 2024 Share Over the past 2 1/2 years, I have heard from and assisted many condo owners throughout Sunny Isles Beach with questions regarding condo records requests, board meeting schedules, insurance, certifications, and assessments. Due to severe assessments in some condos, many elderly residents have sadly become financially stressed and could benefit from simple legal advice. Many recent contacts with residents have referred to a lack of condo board adherence to certain by-law sections relating to elections, quarterly meetings, and notices thereof. As of July 1, condo managers will need to be more transparent regarding the production of condo documents, meeting notices, adherence to by-laws, and elections. The problem arises when assessments hit without adequate documentation regarding contracts associated with those assessments, the bidding process, and the qualifications of the contractor doing the work. I am available to assist any condo manager with pool or spa issues, elevator problems, permit hangups, and other issues involving the City, County, or State. Please do not hesitate to contact me for an immediate and my sincere attempt to assist, in any way. Safety in Sunny Isles Beach Traffic safety is a number one priority in Sunny Isles Beach. At the April 18, 2024 Commission Workshop, I proposed for immediate action that our SIBPD and Parking Code Enforcement prioritize the elimination of FedEx, UPS, Amazon, Uber, and Lyft drivers from stopping or parking in the right lanes of Collins Avenue going north or south for deliveries or drop-offs. These lanes also serve as bicycle lanes, and when the lane is blocked by delivery vehicles, it dangerously forces bicyclists into the middle lanes. Every driver on Collins Avenue has experienced this type of blockage of the right lanes. I have asked the City Manager to contact these services to demand assistance and have involved County Officials and FDOT in this task. Regarding scooter usage within Sunny Isles Beach, enforcement of our new Scooter Ordinance is now in full effect. SIBPD continues with its Helmet Giveaways and Scooter Registry drives. I ask all parents of children using scooters to please observe their use and emphasize safety, including adherence to stop signs, red lights and vehicle rights-of-ways. On a daily basis, I personally see so many instances of children and adults running stop signs and other unsafe practices. Courtesy of pedestrians by scooter riders and bicyclists on sidewalks is something that must be taught by parents and spoken about in our schools. Adults using these vehicles should already know to be considerate or should think it more. Residents who want to actually see what Commissioners are doing for them can take the time to watch City Workshops at 3 p.m. every third Thursday of the month and Regular Commission Meetings starting at 6:30 p.m. on that same day, by personally being present at City Hall, on Cable TV Sunny Isles Beach Channel, the City website, or Sunny Isles Beach YouTube Commission meetings. You should watch the questions that each Commissioner asks on your behalf and how you are represented. Contact Vice Mayor Jerry Joseph at: seat1@sibfl.net . • Dr. Seuss, Adventure & Natural Beauty: Why Western Massachusetts Is Your Next Great Family Getaway | sun-times

Dr. Seuss, Adventure & Natural Beauty: Why Western Massachusetts Is Your Next Great Family Getaway South Florida Sun Times Feb 27, 2025 If you're planning a family trip for the next school break or long weekend, how about a destination offering unique attractions for the whole family? Whether you're traveling when there's still snow on the ground or after spring has sprung, there's a wealth of fun attractions and activities to explore in Western Massachusetts. Here's just a sampling of what you can discover. Oh, the places you'll go! Did your kids grow up reading Dr. Seuss books? If so, you'll want to check out the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts, the town where Dr. Seuss — also known as Theodor Geisel — was born in 1904. Kids will enjoy the lively exhibits and interactive play stations. Even better, time your visit to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd. Then stop at the nearby Springfield Science Museum, where budding scientists can indulge their curiosity about the natural sciences, anthropology and physical sciences. Through May 4th, The Robot Zoo exhibit will explore the biomechanics of complex animal robots to discover how real animals work. Make sure to save time for a Seymour Planetarium show to further ignite their imaginations — the sky's the limit. Hungry for more? Take a trip through The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other beloved stories at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, where your children can learn how their favorite books were created. This venue is a slam dunk: Did you know Springfield, Massachusetts, is also the birthplace of basketball? For fans of the world's most popular sport, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame is a must-see. Learn about the game from its very beginnings to today, experience the fun interactive exhibits, then test your skills on the Jerry Colangelo "Court of Dreams." The Hall of Fame also hosts events year-round, so it's best to check their calendar before planning your trip. One highlight is Hooplandia, the Northeast's Ultimate 3x3 Basketball Tourney and Festival held in June. Shine a little light on the subject: Creative kids will have a "scentsational" experience at the Yankee Candle® Village in South Deerfield, offering special events all year including live music, games, seasonal attractions — and even the chance to create your own custom scent in a one-of-a-kind keepsake. Kids and kids-at-heart will be dazzled by the 7-foot-tall gumball machine and over 125 different types of candy. You can also enjoy craft beer, pizza, wraps and salads to fuel your visit. Make sure not to miss the awe-inspiring Candle Emporium featuring 200,000 candles. Get outdoorsy together: While your kids may not be as awed by the area's stunning natural beauty as you are, the range of outdoor activities will thrill them. During winter you can choose from numerous area resorts for activities including skiing and snow tubing, such as at the Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock or Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont for tons of family-friendly outdoor fun. Northfield Mountain Recreation and Environmental Center in Northfield, Massachusetts, offers year-round activities including cycling, boating, fishing, paddle sports and more. Adventure seekers will definitely want to check out the Catamount Zip Tour at Catamount Mountain when the weather warms up. Their two-hour outdoor experience includes three dual-zipline spans and a chairlift ride up the mountain. The final span of the tour — the "Cata-monster" — is the longest zipline span in the U.S., just over one mile long. The ultimate family fun spot: From April through October, you'll thrill the family with a day or two at Six Flags New England in Agawam, which offers exciting rides suitable for a variety of ages, plus water rides, live shows, family entertainment, dining, shopping and more. Check their website for hours, reservations and other information to help you make plans before booking your travel. Entertainment galore: You'll find all kinds of entertainment options for your family at the MGM Springfield Casino. While those under 21 aren't allowed on the casino floor, there's so much more to this resort that will make your family vacation memorable, including the city's only AAA Four Diamond-rated hotel, which also offers dog-friendly accommodations, an ice rink, a bowling alley, a movie theater, a rooftop pool, concerts and numerous dining options — not to mention close proximity to dozens of area attractions. Whatever will make your vacay special, you'll find it in Western Massachusetts. Plan your next amazing family adventure at: https://ExploreWesternMass.com While your kids may not be as awed by the area's stunning natural beauty as you are, the range of outdoor activities will thrill them. • Addressing The Region's Evolving Healthcare Needs - Memorial Healthcare System To Expand With Two New Freestanding Emergency Departments

Addressing The Region's Evolving Healthcare Needs - Memorial Healthcare System To Expand With Two New Freestanding Emergency Departments December 12, 2024 Share Memorial Healthcare System is expanding access to Adult and Pediatric Advanced Emergency Services in South Broward and Northwest Miami-Dade Counties with the development of two new Freestanding Emergency Departments (FSEDs). The new facility at Miramar Parkway and Red Road in Miramar and the redeveloped and expanded FSED at 801 Douglas Road, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33025 are strategically located to meet high demand in these rapidly growing areas. "Our new Freestanding Emergency Departments in Miramar and Pembroke Pines are vital to addressing the region's evolving healthcare needs and would not have been possible without the support and immediate action taken by Memorial’s Board of Commissioners," said Memorial Healthcare System Interim CEO Shane Strum. "These Emergency Departments will ensure that our communities have immediate access to high-quality emergency care that is closer to home. They not only increase our capacity by more than 30,000 visits annually, but also enhance our ability to deliver timely, specialized services to families and individuals who need it most." “The board has been excited to see our new CEO fast tracking growth projects that had long been under consideration yet stalled,” said Elizabeth Justen, Chair of the South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners. “Under Shane’s leadership and the board’s purview, you will continue to see Memorial pursue aggressive growth strategies. We are committed to expanding innovation and making capital investments that will ensure our community always has the best care available. These two new Freestanding Emergency Departments are a decisive start.” With an estimated construction cost of $61.8 Million, work on the FSEDs is set to begin in early 2025, with anticipated completion by mid 2026. Both projects were approved by the South Hospital District Board of Commissioners in October after swift action was taken by Strum to breathe new life into the projects. The Miramar Parkway and Red Road FSED, a 16,800-Square-Foot Facility, will serve the fast expanding Northwest Miami-Dade region, where emergency visits comprise 27% of Memorial's total emergency room volume. Equipped with 13 Examination Rooms, a Pediatric Treatment Area, a Trauma/Resuscitation Room, Advanced Imaging (CT and X-ray), and On-Site Lab capabilities, this FSED will provide emergency care to over 32,850 individuals annually. With the local population projected to increase by 10% by 2029, this facility will offer convenient access to care and help reduce wait times. The Douglas Road FSED will transform a 48-year-old building into a State-Of-The-Art 30,100-Square-Foot Facility. With 20 Private Examination and Treatment Rooms, Dedicated Pediatric Areas, and Enhanced Imaging Services such as CT and X-ray, this facility is projected to care for approximately 55,000 individuals each year, with room for future growth. Designed with a Private Behavioral Health Area and Trauma/Resuscitation Room, the Douglas Road FSED is equipped to meet diverse emergency needs and to provide essential care to uninsured and Medicaid-dependent patients who make up nearly a third of the local community. These FSEDs underscore Memorial Healthcare System's thoughtful vision for future growth, answering the needs of a growing region and an increasingly advanced care model. “The new Freestanding Emergency Departments are the first of many steps we’ll be taking to make Memorial as competitive as possible while offering all the services needed by our growing community,” Strum said. “We are acting with expediency and seizing the tremendous opportunity that exists for Memorial that will ultimately benefit the patients we serve across South Florida.” < Previous News Next News >
