Its swim-up Aqua Bar ensures refreshments—including local brews, tropical drinks and classic Mexican cocktails crafted from premium liquor brands—flow all day through. The newest offering at Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta allows guests to experience pure relaxation with their own “Wellness Cabana.” Available in the intimate space of their suite, or at the botanical garden adjacent to the spa labyrinth, wellness-focused amenities include aromatherapy, a personal speaker with calming meditation music, spa water, a MUSE meditation headband and mandala adult coloring books, among other items. For those desiring to unwind and explore off-site, the resort also provides complimentary shuttle service to the private Tau Beach Club, offering guests a beachside retreat with cushioned loungers, cabanas, food and beverage service for lunch and dinner and a pristine infinity pool and Jacuzzi area proffering idyllic panoramic views of the sparkling sea. Plus, the property is a mere fifteen minutes from the popular downtown area, where there are art galleries and the famed El Malecon boardwalk. Also making Casa Velas a standout is its elevated gourmet food and beverage program, which raises the bar for all-inclusive hotels globally. The on-site, AAA Four Diamond Emiliano restaurant offers guests unlimited access to gourmet cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The intimate, romantic indoor/outdoor dining space provides lovely vistas of the pool and vibrant golf course beyond. Each evening, Emiliano features a five-course gourmet tasting menu created and overseen by head chefs from its sister resort, the AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. Rotating each night, menus include Mexican, French and Italian-Mediterranean. A novel offering is the resort’s “taco therapy”—Casa Velas’ latest food and beverage offering for guests assisting in anxiety and stress relief, improving sleep quality and boosting antioxidants. The new tasting experience features four curated tacos that provide holistic benefits for the mind, body and soul. There are an array of other activities at the resort as well. “Workshops range from arts and crafts such as natural jewelry and abanicos, to culinary workshops such as the Molcajete option, where guests explore Mexican culinary traditions,” said Enrique Sinencio, the resort’s General Manager. “Another activity is DIY Botanical Cocktails, where guests can pick their ingredients for their drink at the onsite garden. Perfect for creative beverage concoctions, the garden features rosemary, lavender, mint, basil, lemongrass, peppermint, a Mexican tea called epazote, aloe vera, sage, nopales cactus pads, thyme, tamarind, jackfruit, mango, guava and more. Our mixologist will use the selected ingredients to make a personalized botanical cocktail to enjoy on the Koi pond-dotted terrace. Varieties of fruits, herbs, vegetables and botanicals are also used in the cuisine and spa treatments at Casa Velas.” For the health conscious, a spa food menu is available as well. Casa Velas’ commitment to excellence extends to its impressive on-site organic botanical garden, where the resort grows its own herbs, flowers and vegetables. These fresh ingredients find their way into cocktails and culinary creations, adding a farm-to-table element to the dining experience. The beverage offerings at Emiliano, and throughout the entirety of Casa Velas, are equally impressive, featuring premium domestic and international premium wines and liquors. Also enjoyable are spirit-induced nightly events like wine pairings and beer, tequila, wine, martini and other F&B tastings that foster socialization among guests. Relative to in-suite victuals, the resort's in-suite mini bars also depart from the ordinary by offering healthy, freshly-made options on-demand. This includes two different selections of crudites—a “Mexican turnip” with a combination of carrots, cucumber and jicama; and another including celery, beetroot and pineapple. These come complete with three different choices of dressing: mango, chipotle or basil, to enhance flavor while keeping the snack light and healthy. Guests can also choose from a menu of freshly made juice options available year-round. Speaking of health, also included in the daily rate for all-inclusive Casa Velas guests is access to its fully equipped gym. A visit to the property also would not be complete without experiencing services at its on-site ABJA Spa. The 6,500 Square Foot sanctuary offers a wide variety of massages, body wraps and facials, a hydrotherapy area, spa boutique and beauty salon. Notably, Casa Velas is just as committed to the environment as it is to providing impressive guest experiences. “Our luxury resort’s environmental responsibility is a driving force behind the entire operation, from conservation efforts and recycling, to planting our own herb garden,” Sinencio notes. “From natural composting and fertilizing of our on-site gardens, to water-saving initiatives, solar heating and meticulous separation and processing of all waste and recyclables, Casa Velas sets the benchmark for green tourism and hospitality in Puerto Vallarta and beyond. We also recycle burned cooking oils to a supplier for conversion to biodegradable fuel. Local companies are in charge of processing glass, plastic, metal, cardboard and toxic material to handle their recycling, and proper disposal.” “In addition, we clean the sand daily of any foreign debris,” Sinencio continued. “Teams of more than 30 employees are organized monthly to thoroughly clean, sweep, dig and sift the sand for extra cleaning. Designated containers are strategically located for the recycling garbage around the property. Since the COVID-19 Pandemic, Casa Velas has implemented rigorous health and safety protocols in accordance with local and international guidelines. This includes enhanced cleaning procedures, regular sanitization of common areas and the adoption of contactless services where possible. We keep our guests informed through various channels, including our website, social media and direct communication with booked guests. We want everyone to be aware of the measures in place and feel confident in choosing Casa Velas for their stay.” So pristine the locale, it’s become a highly-coveted option for weddings and other important events. The resort boasts a 3,600 Square Foot Convention Center that is ideal for meetings, seminars, formal banquets, cocktail gatherings or a spectacular and elegant wedding for up to 300 people. The center of the space is adjacent to the resort’s garden area and the Marina Vallarta 18-hole championship golf course. To ensure a memorable, hassle-free event, Casa Velas provides professional services for planning weddings from beginning to end. With settings by its beautiful pool area or the Tau Beach Club terrace surrounded by sand and sea, Casa Velas offers unforgettable scenery for the special wedding day. For utter and complete privacy, groups requiring up to 80 suites can take over the entire hotel to ensure fully private access to pools, beach areas, gardens, activities and restaurants. While at the restaurants, the “bubble buyout” offers a group their own personalized menus prepared with everyone’s diet in mind. Along with having the resort to themselves and custom cuisine, group activities range from DIY mixology with ingredients from the onsite botanical garden, Yoga, Mexican wine and craft beer tastings, casino night and more. With various international dignitaries and multiple Mexican presidents having experienced the resort's hospitality, Casa Velas continues to redefine the all-inclusive category. This pristine property is an ideal choice for discerning travelers who value a personalized and pampered luxury travel experience. - A Mission To Recycle America - Transforming One Person’s Trash Into Another’s Treasure
A Mission To Recycle America - Transforming One Person’s Trash Into Another’s Treasure November 14, 2024 Share American Pickers to Film in Florida and they are excited to return! They plan to film episodes of The History Channel hit television series throughout your area in December 2024. This isn’t your grandmother’s antiquing, American Pickers is a documentary series that explores the fascinating world of antique “picking” on The History Channel. The hit show follows skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques. They are always excited to find historically significant or rare items, in addition to unforgettable Characters and their collections. As they hit the back roads from coast to coast, the Pickers are on a mission to recycle and rescue forgotten relics. Along the way, they want to meet characters with amazing stories and fun items. They hope to give historically significant objects a new lease on life while learning a thing or two about America’s past along the way. The Pickers have seen a lot of rusty gold over the years and are always looking to discover something they’ve never seen before. They are ready to find extraordinary items and hear fascinating tales about them. Mike Wolfe: A lifelong American picker, Mike Wolfe has been searching for hidden treasure since he was four years old. Over the years, he’s earned a reputation as one of the country’s foremost foragers, traveling coast to coast in search of rusty gold. Where other people see dilapidated barns and overgrown yards, Wolfe sees the beauty of long-lost things and the stories of the people who made them, used them and somehow saved them. Wolfe spends as much time as he can on the road, “A picker’s kind of like a nomad,” he explains. And for Wolfe, the people he meets and the tales they tell are an integral part of the journey—ultimately as valuable as the rare finds he unearths in their barns, attics and sheds. What exactly does Wolfe look for? “Anything I can make a buck on,” he laughs. But truly, he looks for things with a story; things that fill in some of the blanks in the everyday history of America. That could be anything from antique baby carriages and vintage jukeboxes to old cars and peeling metal advertising signs. Both locations of Antique Archaeology, his specialty shop that sells antiques, vintage items and folk art, have become top tourist destinations in Le Claire, Iowa and Nashville, Tennessee. But after his family, his full-time passion is preserving as much of small-town America as he can, finding old buildings throughout the Midwest and the mid-South that can be reclaimed, restored and reinvigorated, breathing new life into the main streets where he grew up. Danielle Colby: Best known as the Shop Manager on History’s “American Pickers,” Danielle Colby is a lover and collector of all things vintage. You can find Danielle overseeing the Antique Archaeology stores in Iowa and Nashville, scouting new exciting picks! An Iowa native, Danielle currently spends her free time in Puerto Rico, continuing to aid in the rebuilding of the island while dedicating her time to orphanages, animal shelters and raising awareness on the human-trafficking crisis. Danielle has amassed an extensive vintage costume collection ranging from circus costumes to early 1800’s burlesque costumes. She continues to unearth forgotten histories of people and objects from all over the world. Danielle is drawn to anything that tells a story! Robbie Wolfe: Ever since Robbie Wolfe can remember, he’s lived by the famous words, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Since the age of eight, Robbie has been rummaging through garages and old barns to find what he calls “unknown treasures.” His life’s passion focuses on the fact that “people throw away untold history every day” and he finds “joy in restoring what once was a part of someone else’s life story.” Over the years, Robbie has accumulated a wide collection of old Americana, vintage cars and advertising memorabilia. On “American Pickers,” he enjoys discovering one-of-a-kind relics and sharing their untold stories with viewers. Jersey Jon: A born relic hunter with a sense of humor and spirit for adventure, Jersey Jon began restoring antique furniture in his youth. By 17, he had bought an old bank building that he gradually converted into a combined workshop and home headquarters. Born, raised and based in New Jersey, he is an expert in early American motorcycles, and restoring and conserving furniture and antiques are his passions. Jersey Jon is a long-time picking pal of Mike Wolfe and has been a fan favorite since his first appearance on American Pickers. Hidden Treasure In Florida The American Pickers TV Show is looking for leads and would love to explore your hidden treasure. If you or someone you know has a unique item, story to tell, and is ready to sell...we would love to hear from you! Please note, the Pickers DO NOT pick stores, flea markets, malls, auction businesses, museums, or anything open to the public. If interested, please send us your name, phone number, location, and description of the collection with photos to: americanpickers@cineflix.com . Or call: (646) 493-2184. - Big Hearts, Little Paws - Meet Big Mac And Marvelous Monroe, Two Pets Ready To Seal Yours | sun-times
Big Hearts, Little Paws - Meet Big Mac And Marvelous Monroe, Two Pets Ready To Seal Yours South Florida Sun Times Jun 26, 2025 If You’ve Been Searching For A Furry Friend To Add Joy, Laughter, And Unconditional Love To Your Home, The Humane Society Of Broward County Has Two Irresistible Candidates Waiting To Meet You. Whether You’re Looking For A Spirited Sidekick To Keep You On Your Toes Or A Pint-Sized Cuddle Bug Who’s Content To Nap On Your Lap, Big Mac And Marvelous Monroe May Be The Perfect Match For Your Family. Big Personality in a Fun-Sized Package Let’s start with Big Mac (ID 700043), a 27-pound bundle of joy wrapped in wiry fur and boundless energy. With his scruffy coat and lively eyes, Big Mac might be part Cairn terrier or perhaps schnauzer — but what really defines him is his big personality. Despite his compact frame, this little guy makes a mighty impression. Big Mac arrived at the Humane Society of Broward County after being transferred from another shelter. His background remains a mystery, but his journey has clearly molded him into a resilient, charming pup with an eagerness to love and be loved. Like many rescue animals, Big Mac was a little wary at first. Who wouldn’t be, landing in an unfamiliar place surrounded by strangers? But as he settled in, Big Mac began to shine. The staff has seen him go from nervous newcomer to social butterfly in just a few weeks. Big Mac adores attention, thrives on interaction, and would be a wonderful companion for an active family with older children or adults looking for a cheerful walking buddy. He’s the kind of dog that makes you laugh every day, whether he's proudly carrying around a plush toy twice his size or flopping on his back for belly rubs. A Tiny Gem with a Heart of Gold On the other end of the size spectrum is Marvelous Monroe (ID 697889), a delicate little kitten who’s already living up to her name. At just 11 weeks old and a mere two pounds, Monroe is still in the early stages of life, but she’s already mastered the fine art of stealing hearts. Monroe’s start was a bit uncertain. When she first arrived at the shelter, she was too small to be adopted, so she was placed in a volunteer foster home where she received around-the-clock care, love, and attention. It’s clear that this early nurturing made a big impact — Monroe is sweet, gentle, and enjoys being held. She’s a cuddler through and through, the type of kitten who wants nothing more than to nap on your chest or curl up beside you at bedtime. Despite her tiny size, Monroe is full of curiosity. She’s playful in that delightful kitten way — batting at feathers, chasing string toys, and tumbling around like she owns the world. But her greatest joy is simply being close to her human. Monroe would thrive in a calm, loving environment where she can continue to grow and explore safely. Whether you’re an experienced cat parent or a first-time adopter, this little lady is ready to make herself at home — preferably yours. Adopt, Don’t Shop The Humane Society of Broward County, located at 2070 Griffin Road in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33312, is open daily at 11:00 a.m. and offers a welcoming environment for anyone looking to adopt. If Big Mac or Marvelous Monroe seems like the right addition to your family, you’re encouraged to fill out a pre-adoption application online at: www.humanebroward.com before visiting in person. Every pet adopted from the shelter is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before going home — setting both the animal and adopter up for success. In addition to adoptions, the shelter provides a walk-in vaccine clinic six days a week, offering essential preventative care like rabies shots, microchipping, and flea and tick treatments. No appointment is necessary, and services are priced affordably to help all pet owners provide for their animals. Changing a Life — Theirs and Yours Every pet has a story, and while Big Mac and Monroe’s early chapters may be unknown or filled with uncertainty, the rest of their stories could be full of love, laughter, and companionship — with you. Rescuing a pet doesn’t just change their life; it transforms yours as well. There’s a unique joy in watching a once-timid animal blossom in your care. From Big Mac’s goofy zoomies across your backyard to Monroe’s soft purring as she dozes beside you, these little creatures offer big love. So, if you have room in your heart and home, come meet these two wonderful animals. Whether you're looking for a dog with a spark of mischief or a kitten with a heart full of warmth, you might just find your perfect match waiting behind the doors of the Humane Society of Broward County. And who knows? Maybe Big Mac or Marvelous Monroe is the companion you didn’t know you needed — until now. - Easy DIYs To Display Your Love On Valentine's Day
Easy DIYs To Display Your Love On Valentine's Day Family Features February 8, 2023 Share Handmade Valentine's Day decor is a crafty way to put your love on display. Add a little TLC to your home or share your affection with loved ones by dedicating some time to simple DIY projects that come straight from the heart. 1. Creative cutouts. Places and moments hold special places in the heart, so memorialize them with decorative wall hangings. Use a treasured photo or map of destinations you hold dear as the base layer. Next, choose a design, such as a heart or a romantic word like "love." Print your design then trace it on a piece of foam core or matting. Cut out the design to create an opening and layer it over the photo or map. To finish the project, either affix the top layer to the bottom and display as-is or place it in a pretty frame. 2. Sucker for succulents. Hardy and easy to care for, succulents are a stylish way to add some plant life to your home. Add a romantic twist by gathering a selection of small succulents in a variety of colors and textures then clustering them in a heart-shaped basket or planter. Succulents also make great gifts; just create a small planter and attach a card that conveys your heartfelt thoughts. 3. Love is in the cards. Almost everyone has a deck or two of old playing cards laying around or they're an inexpensive investment. Using the red-hued cards from the heart suite, punch holes in the top of each card. String heart-themed ribbon through the holes to make a whimsical banner you can hang on a wall or across a doorway. 4. Say it in string. Expressing yourself with string art is an easy project suitable for all ages. Start with a firm backing, such as a scrap of lightweight wood. Add a base coat of paint to make your design pop then sketch your design. Examples like a flower, heart, word or some combination of those are all good choices for a Valentine's Day project. Add thin nails in 1/2-inch intervals along the border of your design. Select your string and tie an end to the nail of your choice. There's no right or wrong way from there; just loop from one nail to another until your design is obvious. Tie off your string, trim any excess end pieces and you're done. 5. Collage of comrades. Paying tribute to those you hold near and dear is easy with a stylized cork board. Select snapshots of loved ones and attach them to a basic cork board using push pins in classic Valentine's colors like red, white and pink. Then add accents with tape, stickers, gemstones and other embellishments. The Perfect Pancake For Your Valentine Finding something unique and special to do on Valentine’s Day for your significant other can be a challenge. Let it cook for 1 additional minute. Add your favorite pancake toppings like Butter, Syrup, Powdered Sugar or Raspberries. In the end, you will have yourself a scrumptious breakfast, made with love and as sweet as can be. Kids also love the fun shape and color of this breakfast. Flip the pancake and cook for 1 minute. Serve with Butter, Syrup, Powdered Sugar and Raspberries.
