Avoid A Summer Breakdown - Why Now Is A Smart Time Replace An Old HVAC System By Feature Impact Apr 16, 2026 With Summer Heat Just Around The Corner, Homeowners May Not Be Aware That Spring Can Be A Perfect Time To Prepare For Rising Temperatures. An Outdated Heating, Ventilation And Air Conditioning (HVAC) System, For Example, May Not Be Up For The Task Of Keeping A Home Cool. In fact, it can end up costing homeowners more in the long term due to a gradual decline in efficiency and more frequent repairs. In addition to savings over time, there are multiple reasons to replace an aging system this spring. In a recent survey, Carrier found more than one-quarter (26%) of homeowners don't know the age of their HVAC system, and a slight majority (54%) don't know the average lifespan of one. Those knowledge gaps can result in missed opportunities for long-term savings. Aging Systems Can't Take the Heat Many homeowners postpone purchasing a new HVAC system until their existing system fails or they find their aging system is struggling to maintain a consistent temperature. Often, upfront costs deter homeowners from purchasing a new system; however, 8 in 10 homeowners would consider a new heating and cooling system if it paid for itself in energy savings within 5-10 years. With a new energy-efficient system, those savings are possible. A New HVAC System is a Critical Home Investment Modern heating and cooling systems have uses beyond heating and cooling. They can improve air quality in the home by balancing humidity levels, reducing drafts and keeping a consistent climate throughout multiple rooms and stories. They also use less energy and run more quietly than older systems, making a home quieter and more cost-effective. HVAC Basics Many Homeowners Miss HVAC units often go unseen, yet a home's comfort depends on them running consistently. It's critical that homeowners schedule annual maintenance appointments to ensure their system is running as it should and they're aware of when it may be time to replace. While it may seem more cost-effective to stick with an outdated system for one more season, an old system could end up prolonging issues and ultimately cost homeowners more in repairs. Spring is an ideal time to invest in a new HVAC system, as contractors are generally more available to install a new system and homeowners can get ahead of the summer heat, ensuring they'll be cool all season long. Signs It's Time to Replace Red flags that indicate it's time for a new HVAC system include: a system that's more than 10-15 years old, a system that needs noticeably more repairs, energy bills going up despite usage remaining the same, inconsistent temperatures, a system struggling to maintain the desired temperature or a system that's constantly running or seems less efficient than it used to. Many companies offer specials during the spring and fall months, known as shoulder season. For example, until May 31st, Carrier is offering 0% APR for 60 months and up to $2,100 in rebates so customers can get a jumpstart on a cool, comfortable home. A new HVAC system means more than just cool temps this summer; it means added home value, cleaner air and peace of mind. Learn more about available rebates, tax credits and financing plans at: www.Carrier.com or by contacting a local expert. Source: Carrier Previous Next

- Quick And Easy Dishes From Around The Globe
Quick And Easy Dishes From Around The Globe Family Features March 10, 2023 Share One of the best parts of traveling is trying the local cuisine and that's particularly true on an international scale. No matter where you go around the globe, however, there is one ingredient you'll likely find is an integral part of many cultures and cuisines: Rice! Grown on almost every continent, this staple ingredient is a large part of meals around the world, which means there are nearly endless varieties and recipes to try. However, you don't need to go on vacation to try authentic-tasting international food; easy-to-make versions of popular dishes from around the globe can be made right at home in mere minutes. Mediterranean Known for vibrant vegetables, savory sauces and incredible tastes, the Mediterranean is also home to a few classic Rice dishes such as rich and creamy Risotto from Italy. Other vibrant options include Spanish specialties like Arroz Con Pollo (Chicken and Rice) and Paella, which is made with an assortment of ingredients like Seafood, spices and savory broth. Asia If you've ever been to an Asian restaurant, you'll notice a large portion of the menu likely includes recipes made with Rice. While it might be difficult to pinpoint where certain recipes originate, Fried Rice is a Chinese specialty. Over time, this delicious dish has made its way to many different countries and been reinvented with local ingredients. For example, this Kale and Kimchi "Fried" Rice is based on Korean Cuisine and can be made in less than 5 minutes using Minute Jasmine Rice & Red Quinoa Cups, which combine the buttery taste and aromatic scent of authentic Jasmine Rice with crunchy, 100% Whole-Grain Red Quinoa in a convenient, pre-portioned cup. Middle East Much like other cuisines around the world, Middle Eastern cooking uses rice almost every day. A Turkish and Arab mixed dish, Shawarma is now a global street food. Traditional Persian Rice uses a variety of spices like Turmeric, Ginger and Cardamom with dried fruits and nuts. Latin America Latin American recipes vary from country to country and region to region, but rice is essential on the side or as part of the main dish across the board. A quick and easy morning meal, this Mexican Breakfast Scramble is ready in 4 minutes. Aiding the short prep time, Minute Jalapeño Rice Cups are ready in just 1 minute and can help spice up dishes with a tasty blend of Onion, Green Peppers and Jalapeños. North America With bold flavors, few things say southern comfort quite like Louisiana cooking. Bring the taste of New Orleans to your kitchen with rice-based dishes like Gumbo or Jambalaya or by pairing rice with another popular Cajun pastime - a classic Shrimp Boil. - The Toy Foundation’s Play Fund Supports Children With Special Needs - Sensory Room And Mobile Multi-Sensory Cart Deliver Comfort And Healing Through Therapeutic Play | sun-times
The Toy Foundation’s Play Fund Supports Children With Special Needs - Sensory Room And Mobile Multi-Sensory Cart Deliver Comfort And Healing Through Therapeutic Play South Florida Sun Times Dec 10, 2025 Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital (JDCH) Foundation has been awarded a $15,000 Grant from The Toy Foundation’s Play Fund to improve access to multi-sensory environments in order to ease anxieties and create a more positive and joyful patient experience. The new project, C.A.T.C.H. (Creating a Therapeutic and Calming Hospitalization), is designed to enhance the hospital experience for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Behavioral Health Conditions by creating sensory-friendly environments that promote comfort, healing and emotional well-being. The Grant was used to fund a dedicated sensory room in Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital’s Child Life Zone and a mobile multi-sensory cart that will allow staff to quickly create customized calming and enjoyable environments for patients in any area within the hospital. The sensory environments at JDCH now feature a variety of sights, sounds and textures to reduce stress and overstimulation. These tools augment the education of staff working with special needs patients. “Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation is honored to be among the recipients of this impactful Grant,” said Kelley Morris, President of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation. “With this generous donation from The Toy Foundation we are enhancing our capacity to provide superior patient-and family-centered care, particularly for those patients with Special Needs who need a safe, calming environment while in the hospital.” The C.A.T.C.H. Project is expected to serve at least 300 patients annually, reaching more than 1,500 children over the lifetime of the equipment; achieve 75% improvement in patient well-being, measured by reduced anxiety and increased engagement; and enhance staff training and documentation related to special needs care. This grant is part of a broader national initiative. In Spring 2025, The Toy Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The Toy Association, announced $405,000 in Play Fund grants to 23 children’s hospitals and health systems across the country. The funding is expected to benefit more than 245,000 children, with a focus on under-resourced communities from coast to coast. The Play Fund is the only industry-wide initiative that brings the power of play to hospitals. By uniting the philanthropy of toy companies, The Toy Foundation supports projects ranging from sensory-friendly play areas and themed arts and crafts to inclusive play equipment for children of all abilities. As a full-service quaternary care hospital with 228 beds and extensive outpatient services, JDCH is committed to creating a more inclusive, supportive and healing environment for all children, especially those with special needs. - Keeping Our Children Safe | sun-times
Keeping Our Children Safe By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper Mar 26, 2026 Spring Break Is A Reminder That It Is Essential To Prioritize The Safety Of Our Children, Particularly Regarding Water Safety. Our City Collaborated With Broward Fire Rescue And Rotary, Alongside The YMCA, To Host A VIP Reception In Support Of Swim For Jenny Week. This Initiative Honors Jenny, A 12-Year-Old Who Tragically Lost Her Life In A Drowning Incident At A Pool Party. I Remain Committed To Advocating That Swimming Be Recognized As A Fundamental Life Skill Taught To Every Child. Given Florida's Abundance Of Water Environments, Including Pools, Lakes, Canals, Drainage Areas, And Oceans, This Education Is Vital. Last year, swimming deaths increased to double digits. The YMCA is now offering free swimming lessons for everyone aged six months and up. It is always possible to learn—years ago, I paid for a woman to take lessons when she could not swim. Additionally, it is essential not only to teach children how to swim but also to commit us to be Water Watchers. Accidents can occur within seconds—a child may unexpectedly fall into a pool. One guest speaker shared an incident with a pool party where everyone assumed that two fathers were supervising the children. Unfortunately, their attention was diverted, resulting in a tragic loss in mere moments. At every event, multiple individuals should be designated to monitor the water vigilantly. Statistics indicate that one in six children may die from drowning, while others are fortunate enough to be rescued. Every minute is critical. The increase in motorized scooters and bikes is a safety concern. Current law prohibits bikes, scooters, and skateboards in parks. At the last meeting, the commission agreed to enforce this policy. Children caught violating the ordinance will be fined, and if their parents are present, they will also be fined. These violations are classified as municipal ordinance notices, not moving violations. As far as on our sidewalks and streets. Hallandale Beach Police Department will be enforcing the law. All self-propelled vehicles must be driven on the street. Just like any other moving violation the operators will be fined, and the motorized vehicles will be impounded just like cars. Minors operating the vehicle will be held until an adult is present. To clarify, if you have bicycles that require pedaling to start, this is considered distinct from other types of vehicles. The same distinction applies to skateboards and push scooters. While enforcing sidewalk regulations presents challenges, our Police Department will be monitoring and addressing instances where individuals are recklessly endangering pedestrians. We encourage everyone to enjoy our city responsibly and, most importantly, to prioritize safety. It is essential that all members of the community learn to share the road. Drivers are reminded to avoid distractions such as mobile phones and to operate vehicles safely at all times. As always, I am available anytime for your questions, concerns, and ideas to make our City a better place on my Phone/Text at: (954) 632-5700. Or you can email me at: jcooper@cohb.org . After meeting Frank Sinatra at a charity event, Evans said, “Everyone thinks I’m crazy for pursuing this kind of music,” to which Sinatra replied, “Kid, if everyone thinks you’re crazy, you’re on the right track.” Evans took those words to heart and began a career in the music business, immediately booked to open for Frankie Valli, Dionne Warwick, and Lou Rawls. The parks in and around Tampa, like the Rocky Creek Trails Nature Preserve or the Morris Bridge Road Preserve, have trails for all levels, not just for hiking and biking, but also for off-roading, horse riding and more! Tampa is also a prime spot for canoeing and kayaking, with plenty of waterways and rivers for you to explore. Top 3 things campers can’t miss: 1. Conquer the class II rapids at the Hillsborough River State Park 2. Visit Morris Bridge Road Preserve for off-road biking and birdwatching 3. Explore Tampa Bay’s waterways by kayak Over 200 Florida towns and cities with more than 20,000 inhabitants were considered for this study. The starting point of the ranking was the average number of monthly searches on Google for the terms "camping in [town]" and "campgrounds [town]." After gathering that data, the average amount of sun hours in the fall months (September-November) was calculated using historical weather data from World Weather Online. These two data points were normalized (adjusted to a common scale) in order to determine which destinations were the best places for camping. In case of a tie, the search volume of the respective destinations decided which town was ranked higher.
