- Make Dad Smile On His Day
Make Dad Smile On His Day June 13, 2022 Share Father's Day brings a special opportunity each year to celebrate the dad in your life, whether it's spent lighting a grill in the backyard, heading to the golf course or simply relaxing at home. Make his day one to remember by enjoying his favorite activities and giving a gift that'll put a grin on his face. From home chefs and snazzy dressers to outdoorsmen and sports fans, these gifts offer an array of ideas for dads of all kinds, so you can bring a little extra joy to this year's celebration. Here are a few Father's Day gift inspirations you could possibly get for the dad in your life. Is Your Dad A Meat Lover? Even for the man who has it all, sometimes Father's Day gifting can be pretty simple. Show Dad some love with the Omaha Steaks Best Father's Day Gift package that includes mouthwatering favorites like Bacon-Wrapped Filet Mignons, Boneless Pork Chops, Boneless Chicken Breasts, Gourmet Jumbo Franks, PureGround Filet Mignon Burgers, Individual Scalloped Potatoes, decadent Caramel Apple Tartlets and a jar of Omaha Steaks Seasoning. Find more gifting wisdom at: https://www.omahasteaks.com/buy/Gifts/Fathers-Day?setseed=73 Golf Bag Goodies If he's like most golfers, chances are your dad spends a few minutes each round searching for his ball after a wayward tee shot. Save him some precious time on the course with the extra golf balls he needs so he doesn't have to worry about leaving one (or two or three) in the woods. Even amateur players sometimes prefer a certain ball, so don't be afraid to sneak to the garage and check his current supply so you can put his favorite brand in your cart. Food from the Fire Quick seared, slow smoked or anything in-between, a true chef-worthy grill can take your dad's barbecue reputation from backyard novice to neighborhood celebrity. He may already view himself as master of the meats, but a new charcoal or propane grill can give him the motivation he needs to try new recipes and cook up classics. It's a gift he can enjoy while bringing the entire family together to celebrate savory success. Perfect for His Pocket Just before heading out the door, there's one last "checklist" for many dads: phone, wallet, keys, pocketknife. The next time he goes through the classic pocket check, give your dad an upgrade he can smile about with a knife he can use for a variety of situations on a daily basis. For a reminder of home every time he opens the blade, consider a customized option engraved with a loving message so he'll never forget your thoughtful gift. A Wardrobe Upgrade Whether your dad has style or just thinks he does, you can give his wardrobe the finishing touch it needs with a watch to match the look that's all his own. From casual styles that complement most of his clothes to traditional timepieces suited for special occasions, there are options in virtually every price range to help the final piece of his outfit make a statement. In the office, on the road or right at home, he'll be reminded of you every time he checks his wrist. < Previous News Next News >
- Celebrating Diversity: Recognizing Our Many Community Partners and Their Contributions To Our Community
Celebrating Diversity: Recognizing Our Many Community Partners and Their Contributions To Our Community By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper June 16, 2022 Share One of the rewarding opportunities of serving on our commission is recognizing our many partners and their contributions to our community. At a recent commission meeting Commissioner Anabelle Lima-Taub placed an important item on our agenda to be recognized. As the Jewish community began the celebration of receiving the Torah it was a perfect time to shed light on the many organizations that have been working hard to fight antisemitism. Sadly, I have learned in the past when I was not in office there were anti-Semitic comments against Israel. Commissioner Sabrina Javellana has spent her term being on the wrong side of history, consistently. On February 6, 2019, the Hallandale Beach City Commission voted to condemn the hateful BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement. She actually doubled down on hateful votes when she voted no on a resolution condemning the Venezuelan dictator, Nicolas Maduro. Just this past October 6, 2021, the majority of the City Commission voted to denounce Ben & Jerry's hateful BDS boycott of Israel, once again, Javellana voted no. I typically do not use this column to speak against a commissioner but as a Jew and leader I will always stand against hate and oppression. Philos Project Gloria Garces graduated from the University of Miami’s School of Business, studied International Journalism at Florida International University and is a graduate of Lifework Leadership. Gloria Garces was born in Guatemala, of Cuban descent, and lives in Miami with her daughter Sofia. She specializes in strategic communications and is known for having excellent relationships with community and religious leaders, journalists and authors, celebrities, and influencers, as well as politicians, diplomats and activists throughout the American continent, Europe, and Israel. Gloria Garces known for her pro-Israel efforts throughout Latin America and within the Evangelical Christian and Jewish communities Gloria is best known for her and her brother’s role as the catalyst force behind President Jimmy Morales’ decision to establish Guatemala’s embassy to Jerusalem. Currently Ms. Garces is advising The Philos Project and leading the #WeResolve movement to educate and mobilize thousands of Christians to stand against antisemitism. She sits on many boards and advisory councils of several local and national organizations advancing Israel-related causes such as: The Philos Project’s Hispanic Advisory Board; FIDF-Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces’ Miami Advisory Board; Israel Bonds’ Miami Chapter, Cadena International’s Guatemala Chapter; and the Make-a-Wish Foundation Israel/Miami shared appeal. At the beginning of 2021, Gloria Garces was named one of the “Top 40 Latin American pro-Israel advocates and leaders” by JNS alongside heads of state, diplomats, congresspeople and other international leaders. The Philos Project is the network hub for leaders and future leaders who are committed to promoting positive Christian engagement. The Greek word Philos means “friend,” and the Philos Project’s task is to identify those friends who share the Philos Project’s values – be they Christian, Jew, Muslim, or anyone else – and to empower them. The Philos Project educates Christians on the theological, historical, and political issues surrounding Israel and the Jewish people. The Jewish and Christian community in Hallandale Beach have the full support of the Philos Project. Most notably, via Mr. Luke Moon’s participation as a panelist in a United Against Anti-Semitism forum hosted by Reut Miami. The event was attended by a large number people from Hallandale Beach and the South Florida Jewish community. REUT Miami and REUT Nashim “REUT” means “Friendship in Hebrew and is the primary goal of REUT Miami and REUT Nashim. Reut was founded by five friends who understood the need for a venue that positively promotes Israel throughout the US, Israel, Canada and elsewhere. Hallandale Beach resident Mr. Pini Dagan has mentored the current leadership of Reut Miami and Reut Nashim. The organization is not founded with a personal or political agenda. Its sole purpose is to glorify and promote the State of Israel. It provides a safe haven for the South Florida Jewish community to participate in discussions, educational programs and forums combating anti-Semitism both locally, nationwide, and abroad. Reut and Reut Nashim work made it possible to bring at least twice weekly top-notch lecturers and experts in their fields to talk about current events, openly express their opinions, and share their analysis of current events affecting the Jewish community. Reut emphasizes Israeli heritage and Israeli history, affording local Israeli Americans a voice and resources. Rolling Thunder Another group of which I have gotten to know due to their outreach and support is Rolling Thunder. Rolling Thunder of South Florida is a peaceful motorcycle riders club, promoting positive community outreach advocacy and altruistic acts of kindness. Its founders, Tony Raz, Boaz Edri, and the Rolling Thunder members, offer volunteer services throughout South Florida, but most notably during the aftermath of the Champlain Tower collapse by providing food and supplies to the victims’ families and first responders. Rolling Thunder members continuously offer support and protection to victims of anti-Semitic acts throughout South Florida. Rolling Thunder members and its founders continue to offer support, volunteer services and supplies to south Floridians in need of assistance, regardless of race, color, or religious background. For last 17 years, Rolling Thunder has hosted one of the nation’s largest Israeli Pride and Independence Day Parade in South Florida. When someone is in need, they do not hesitate to offer resources to Hallandale Beach residents. Rolling Thunder and its biker members spread the message of peace throughout their bike ride destinations. Commissioner Anabelle Lima-Taub and the commission recognized Rolling Thunder for its multiple offers to help support the City’s vulnerable members of the Orthodox Jewish community and its continued support of the Hallandale Beach Police Department. Ironically the one commissioner who has criticized Israel was absent once again. As always, feel free to contact me anytime with your questions, concerns and ideas on how to make our City a great place to live, work and play! I am available by Phone or Text At: (954) 632-5700. - 83 Year Old Entrepreneur: Resident Runs Pet-Sitting Business from Her Florida Senior Living Community
83 Year Old Entrepreneur: Resident Runs Pet-Sitting Business from Her Florida Senior Living Community August 11, 2022 Share When Barbara Fox contemplated retirement, she didn’t envision moving to a Senior Community or enjoying carefree days of card games and bingo. And while she did move to The Palace Suites, an Independent Living Community in Miami, her days are now spent running her own business, “Help is on the Way.” The 83-year-old started the company in 2014 upon retiring from Interval International, a timeshare exchange company, after 20 years of service. “Since I was 11 years old I’ve worked,” she explained. “I couldn’t imagine not working at something.” Fox envisioned a business that assisted people with their day-to-day needs, whether picking up medication or drug store supplies, to walking and boarding dogs. She created a flyer for “Help is on the Way, and handed them to friends and posted them at her local gym. With the first phone call, the business was off and running. She still has her first client who needed a dog walker. The most popular service was boarding dogs at her home and dog walking, but her large house was becoming a burden for the single divorcee. She was tired of worrying about home maintenance and hurricanes. Fox moved to The Palace in Kendall and found the lock and leave maintenance-free lifestyle was well suited for her business. While she no longer could board dogs at her home, she transitioned her business to pet sitting at her clients’ homes. Her work may involve much more than caring for a family’s beloved pets. She gets the mail and newspapers, takes out the garbage and waters plants. She typically works for families in the West Kendall area, Gables by the Sea and her business has grown through referrals. Typically, she pet sits 10-12 nights per month but is able to still enjoy nightly happy hours, parties and crafting classes before returning to her four-legged clients at their homes. “It’s a pleasure not to have to worry about my apartment while I’m away,” she said. “I’ll leave a note on my bed that the linens don’t need to be changed. Then, when I return and open the door, the apartment is spotless and smells simply lovely. I hated housekeeping and cooking and now it’s done for me.” Among the highlights of her life at The Palace is living next door to her best friend, Gayle Rosenthal. “I always said if the apartment next to me becomes available, I want Gayle to be my neighbor,” she explained. Her wish came through seven months ago and the pair are thrilled to spend their retirement years as neighbors. When asked if she’s ever had problems with a dog, Fox said, “They call me a dog whisperer. The secret is dog biscuits.” Her biggest client is a Bernese Mountain dog, but there are several Spaniels and Chihuahuas. Barbara’s philosophy is making the most of every day and staying active. “I’m not working due to finances,” she added. “Working keeps me young at heart!” For more information about The Palace Suites, please visit: https://www.thepalace.org/ < Previous News Next News >

- Kindness: Break The Cycle of Indifference
Kindness: Break The Cycle of Indifference By Bryan Golden June 30, 2022 Share There is undue rudeness and thoughtlessness in every day interpersonal interaction. Friends, relatives, and strangers can act inconsiderately. More and more people are under increasing amounts of stress. Work, commuting, family, kids, errands, chores are among the many factors that can induce anxiety that causes individuals to be irritable. People have become isolated and detached from one another. Earlier in history, everyone depended on each other for their wellbeing. Someone would always make an effort to help a person in distress. Neighbor helped neighbor without being asked. Today, when a Good Samaritan engages in an act of kindness it becomes a newsworthy story. Acts of kindness that were commonplace in yesteryear are now the rare exception. You can be more ignored broken down on the side of a busy highway than you would have been stranded on a dirt road. It's ironic that as the population grows, individuals have become increasingly discourteous. Rudeness easily becomes a vicious cycle that influences all who come into contact with it. You have the power to break the cycle. You can be nice and act with kindness. You can surprise people with unexpected consideration. Although there are exceptions, the vast majority appreciates courtesy. When you act nicely, you feel better than when projecting bitterness. Your actions are entirely within your control. How you behave affects everyone you come into contact with. There are a number of simple strategies you can take to improve how you and others feel. Don't respond in kind if you are treated poorly. Respond in a nicer way than you are treated. Endeavor to consistently wear a smile. A smile causes you to feel better and radiates positive energy. Go out of your way to be kind and look for ways to help others. Offer help especially when you don't have to. Spreading kindness doesn't cost a penny yet provides priceless rewards. There are numerous things you can do on a daily basis which will bring joy to all. Here are some simple suggestions that you can utilize anytime and anywhere. But don't limit yourself to these, think of other ways to spread kindness. Smile, say hello and make eye contact. Greet a stranger you pass on the street, in the hall, or in the mall and, you will be surprised how often they say hello in return. Always say please when you ask for something and thank you when someone serves or helps you. Even when a person's job requires them to attend to you, a sincere thank you will always brighten their day. Whenever you speak with someone, keep a smile on your face. Be aware of the needs of people around you. Hold doors open for others. Open the door for someone whose arms are full of packages or for someone pushing a stroller and let them go ahead of you. Thank those who hold a door for you. While shopping, when you have a lot of items, let someone who has only a thing or two get in front of you in the register line. On the road, allow other drivers to pull in front of you when trying to merge onto the road. Be courteous and take care not to cut off other drivers. Break the cycle of indifference. Set an example for others. Always be on the lookout for ways to be kind. Do more than you have to. Do the unexpected. Do whatever you can to make someone else feel good.
