- A Letter From The Mayor: Beach Chairs & Where To Put Them
A Letter From The Mayor: Beach Chairs & Where To Put Them By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper April 4, 2024 Share Over the past weekend I have received letters raising concerns over beach chair concessions on Hallandale Beach. During our March 6th Meeting I had an opportunity to raise those concerns and my issues over how our Staff had stopped allowing condominiums to store chairs on our beach after beach nourishment. My priority is our residents and in agreement to allow storage like it always had been. We have many condominiums that stack and store chairs along the coastal construction line. This allows Condominium Staff and Vendors safe access to provide chairs and or umbrellas to our residents residing in condominiums. I have always stressed and continue to stress that we have a Residential Beach. We have South Beach Park with a commercial café. North Beach, while being a city property, has a contracted service for beach chairs, and other amenities in which the city receives a percentage of sales. In addition, we have our North City Beach Facility. The rest of our beach provides access mainly for our residents even though the entire beach is public. I want to make it abundantly clear to our residents. I cannot speak for every City Commissioner. I thoroughly support the storage of chairs uniformly along the coastline so our condominiums will be able to have this service which they have conveniently enjoyed for years. To date there is no policy adopted by the commission. There is no agreement for scope of service nor Contract for a sole Vendor. I do agree that a policy needs to be adopted as soon as possible for uniform storage, as well as possibly preset regulations and cleaning of preset areas ASAP. While Staff implemented there was no storage, this was never brought to us. My goal since finding out on March 5th was to expedite an agreement to a minimum to provide for chair storage at the March 6th Meeting. While our Commissioners Vice Mayor Lima Taub and Commissioner Lazarow were supportive of taking action they wanted more information whereas like me, they were not aware that storage was stopped. As of the writing of this article, we have an April 10th meeting in which Staff was directed to bring back a policy upon my request and supported by commission. I encourage residents to view the March 6th Meeting on our City’s Website at: www.cohb.org and click on agendas. Also please read the letter below. I received numerous emails and truly shared our residents’ concerns. Please send me your thoughts. If you wish to speak to me regarding this letter or any other issues, I can be reached at: jcooper@cohb.org . Or: joycooper@aol.com . Or Facebook: Mayor Joy Cooper. You can always call my Office number at: (954) 457-1318. Or Call/Text me at: (954) 632-5700. Working for you! Always have! Always will! < Previous News Next News >
- ZOA Settles Antisemitism Lawsuit Against Cherry Hill Public Schools | sun-times
ZOA Settles Antisemitism Lawsuit Against Cherry Hill Public Schools Jewish Connection News Feb 12, 2026 After Months Of Litigation, The Zionist Organization Of America (ZOA) Successfully Resolved Its Federal Lawsuit Against Cherry Hill Public Schools In New Jersey. In partnership with attorneys Jeffrey Schreiber and Stephen Meister of the Law Firm of Meister Seelig & Fein, PLLC, the ZOA filed suit on behalf of a Jewish student at Cherry Hill High School East and his parents after the student – a proud and vocal Israel supporter – was repeatedly threatened and nearly physically assaulted by other students after he documented on Social Media the provocative, dangerous, pro-terrorist Hamas conduct of fellow students. Just days after Hamas massacred over 1,200 Jews on October 7th, 2023, a group of Cherry Hill students walked through the halls of the high school enthusiastically waving Palestinian Arab flags, wearing keffiyehs, and shouting, “Free Palestine.” The complaint alleged that school and district officials not only failed to protect the Jewish student from the repeated threats he received and reported. They also retaliated against him – the victim – and harshly, undeservedly and outrageously punished him in violation of their own rules and policies, while ignoring and downplaying the conduct of his attackers. Under the settlement negotiated by the ZOA and its partners, the school district was required to (1) expunge the information and evidence related to the disciplinary action taken against the Jewish student; (2) continue to provide antisemitism education as part of its mandatory Holocaust instruction; (3) commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day on April 24th, 2025, and commemorate it annually thereafter; and (4) during the week of April 21st, 2025, maintain a table of books in the district’s libraries that commemorated Jewish history and survival through the centuries. The settlement also required the school district to issue and post on its website a detailed statement providing data about the “skyrocketing” rise in antisemitic incidents in New Jersey and affirming that the district would “not tolerate antisemitism in any form.” The statement promised that all perpetrators of antisemitism, both staff and students, would be held accountable by the district. In addition, the statement emphasized that understanding how antisemitism can be expressed “is critical for effectively addressing” the problem and provided much-needed information to the community about the many forms of antisemitism: Included in the district’s statement was a definition of antisemitism almost identical to the widely accepted International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition, including the examples related to Israel. ZOA National President Morton A. Klein and the Director of ZOA’s Center for Law and Justice, Susan B. Tuchman, Esq., expressed their satisfaction with the terms of the settlement, stating, “We are pleased and gratified that we were able to achieve the result our clients were seeking and that justice was served. The school district took much-needed corrective steps. It also educated its community about the many forms of antisemitism and made it clear to the community that the district would have zero tolerance for all of it. It was a privilege to work again with the Law Firm of Meister Seelig & Fein, PLLC to fight the ongoing battle against the ugly surge of Jew-and Israel-hatred in our K-12 schools.” Previous Next
