- BODYROK Brings Its High-Intensity, Low-Impact Reformer Workout To Coconut Grove | sun-times
BODYROK Brings Its High-Intensity, Low-Impact Reformer Workout To Coconut Grove Aventura Digest Mar 16, 2026 BODYROK, The Nationally Recognized Fitness Studio Known For Its High-Intensity, Low-Impact Reformer Workouts, Has Officially Opened Its First South Florida Location In Coconut Grove. Popular In New York And California For Its Immersive Studio Experience And Results-Driven Training, BODYROK Brings A Fresh, Highly Structured Approach To Pilates-Inspired Fitness To Miami Under The Leadership Of BODYROK South Florida Owners And Operators Jordi Dalmau, A Lifelong Miami Native And Former Division I Football Player And His Mother Beatriz Salume, A Former Division I Tennis Player At The University Of Miami Who Remains An Elite Athlete Today. Each BODYROK class is a 45-minute workout performed on a custom-made reformer designed exclusively for the brand. But what truly sets BODYROK apart is its intentionally structured programming, which is designed to deliver variety, clarity and measurable results without confusion or repetition. Each class follows a daily programming theme, with seven distinct workout formats that rotate regularly, including: • Flow – a reverse-training style class focused on control and fluid movement • Buns & Guns – emphasizing the arms and glutes • Obliques & Cheeks – targeting the obliques and glutes • Six-Packs & Backs – focusing on core strength and posterior chain • Core & Cardio – BODYROK’s signature cardio day, incorporating a proprietary jump board • Cardio Sculpt – a faster-paced, cardio-forward format with quicker transitions • Rock Your Body – a challenging full-body workout offered in two variations To avoid repetitiveness and overtraining, BODYROK switches its class theme daily and constantly rotates the programming schedule, ensuring each class feels new, challenging and thoughtfully programmed. This rotation allows clients to achieve full-body conditioning over time, properly recover muscle groups and plan complementary workouts—a structure inspired by athletic training principles. “What drew me to BODYROK was that the workout actually makes sense,” said Dalmau. “You know what muscles you’re training, you can plan your week, and you’re not guessing. That kind of structure was something I really missed after playing competitive sports.” After college, Dalmau transitioned away from high-impact gym training in favor of movement that supported strength, mobility, flexibility and injury prevention, a shift that ultimately led him to BODYROK. “This isn’t about trends or extremes,” Dalmau said. “It’s about building strength in a way that supports your body in the long run.” BODYROK’s programming is built to be inclusive. Instructors cue three options for every movement—a standard execution, an amplified version and a modification—allowing professional athletes, beginners, men, women and older adults to train effectively in the same room. Workouts are also displayed on in-studio screens, helping members understand what’s coming next and building familiarity and confidence over time. “Fitness can feel intimidating, especially in Miami,” said Dalmau. “For me, the most important thing is that people feel welcome. Being kind, informed and supportive is non-negotiable for our team.” The Coconut Grove studio reflects that philosophy, pairing loud music, low lights and high energy inside the workout room with a warm, design-forward front space that makes the experience enjoyable from arrival to departure. BODYROK’s Miami debut was intentionally placed in Coconut Grove, a neighborhood known for prioritizing wellness, community and quality of life. Located in CocoWalk, the studio offers 90 minutes of validated parking, making fitness more accessible for commuters, families and weekend visitors. Building on the success of the Coconut Grove studio, BODYROK has already begun construction on a second South Florida location in Edgewater, slated to open in summer 2026, with plans for continued expansion throughout Miami-Dade County. “At the end of the day, fitness should empower you,” Dalmau said. “If people leave feeling stronger, confident and supported, that’s success.” About BODYROK BODYROK is a boutique fitness studio with locations nationwide offering a 45-minute, high-intensity, low-impact workout that blends Pilates-inspired movement with interval training on proprietary reformers. Known for its structured programming, rotating class formats, and inclusive approach to strength training, BODYROK emphasizes longevity, consistency and results—creating workouts that challenge the body while supporting it for the long term. - Finding A Way Forward Together: Hallandale Beach Is Working On Multiple Fronts To Better The Community
Finding A Way Forward Together: Hallandale Beach Is Working On Multiple Fronts To Better The Community By Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper January 25, 2024 Share Many of us watch our local news and shudder to think about the Gun Violence in our communities and the tragic loss of life. Years ago, these reports came typically out of big cities, but now small and large cities alike have had shootings. We all collectively are working to stem the rise in Violent Crimes. Hallandale Beach has had its share of senseless shootings. The majority have a nexus to gangs that are in the South Florida area. After the COVID-19 Pandemic, we began to see a resurgence of gang conflicts in our City. These are gangs with young adults ages 14 to their late twenties Pompano, Dania Beach, Hollywood, West Park, Pembroke Park and Hallandale Beach all have had rivalries typically stem from High School. One may think of West Side Story but with the prevalence of guns in these fights rather than fist or knives are resulting in shootings. Not all of these crimes make the news. The last shooting that took place was not. A 16-year-old was targeted and shot while on his bike. Four other teens in a car shot at him. He jumped off his bike and they pursued him. He was struck on his foot. Due to our Commissions’ commitment to Public Safety and Investments in Technology that picks up shots fired; Police were on site within minutes. They are conducting a full investigation. This fall we had another tragic shooting and that was the final straw for me. A student at Hallandale High, Marcus Impert was coming home from his first high school football game. His mother debated allowing him to attend. He was on his way home as a passenger when he was shot and killed. The driver who was the intended target was uninjured. Once again, there were no witnesses to come forward. This could be due to fear or simply not wanting a friend, brother, cousin to get in trouble. There are ways through Crime Stoppers which are anonymous to report information. We also have our own City Tip Line at: (954) 457-1404. The Chief and our Department took to the street and went door to door. Their goal was twofold. One to reassure our residents they are working hard and care. The other to give out information on Marcus Impert and Crime Stoppers. The neighborhood was receptive. This case and others are active cases. Our department continues to work on them, and they remain open. Our Police can only do so much. They need evidence to solve crimes. Witnesses are an important part of solving crimes but with or without them it takes a long time to work through the criminal justice system. I would like to say it is not Law and Order, solved in one hour. We all need to work together and try to prevent crime. This takes parents, neighbors, schools, churches and Police working side by side. I was both heartbroken and frustrated. I decided that we need to do more to unite. These young adults go to our schools. There needs to be more understanding and accountability from all parties. I asked to hold a meeting with the Principals, Chiefs of Police and Mayors from our zone. We held our first Task Force Meetings. Sadly, due to the death of Principal Campbell from Gulfstream K-8 we have not met. We will meet as soon as the new principal is appointed. This does not mean we have been sitting back. Principal Campbell talked very wisely at the first meeting. He talked about going back to the old school ways. Children were still not healed from the impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The families still were not all back to level footing. His suggestion was to come together as a community with our old Crime Watch Block Parties. I took his message to heart. My goal was simply to get resources and information out to our community as a whole. Not just kids, but for all ages. I was blessed around the same time to be approached by two wonderful individuals that had lost their sons. “Big Ike” of Project Love and Andrea McDonald of “Advise Athletes.” Andrea wanted to do a field day in honor of her Son Alex “Budda” Collins the NFL Football Player. Budda started football in our PAL Program. Alex lost his life when he was struck by a car on his motorcycle. Big Ike, who lost his son 10 years ago, has always done outreach. His first play was about AIDS and changing fear to love. His new project is a play with the goal of uniting the community and Changing fear of Police to collaborating with Pastors, Police and the community. We have partnered with our Police Activities League to create a “Community Field Fun Day and Resource Fair.” Our presenting Sponsor is Memorial Hospitals “One City At A Time” Initiative. The event is FREE of charge. There will be athletic competitions Football, Basketball, Track, Tennis and Pickleball Lessons, a Memorial Service for all that have lost loved ones from Violence and the COVID-19 Pandemic. Guest speakers during the day. There will be a Tailgate Hot Dog Lunch and other entertainment. In addition, there will be a Health and Community Partner Resources Fair that includes a FREE Tree Giveaway, Our Human Services Department will be on hand to share information on our After School Tutorial Programs and Senior Programs, The Supervisor Of Elections will be on hand to help with your Registrations, the Property Appraiser will be on hand to help with Homestead Information and the Tax Deferment Program, Whether you are a child or senior there will be something for everyone and much more. To everyone that visits the Resource Fair and fills their passport, they can enter to win a TV Show Ticket and Other Prizes. - We All Need To Unite Against This Hate
We All Need To Unite Against This Hate By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper May 27, 2021 Share On May 23rd, 2021 a group of Hallandale & Beaches Patriots members along with Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper & Commissioner Anabelle Lima-Taub joined to rally with Israelis, Jews and Christians from all over to cheer, dance, pray and hear Passionate speakers. This is sad, that we as Jewish people, are still fighting Anti-Semitism in America, it was wonderful to see so many people join in supporting those in Harm’s way. Make no mistake, Hammas is a terrorist organiza-tion. They have continued to vow to wipe Israel off of the map. I, personally have witnessed the impact of war on the peaceful communities in Israel, when I visited after the last attacks. Imagine walking down your street and your neighbor’s home, is in rubble or having to seek shelter when air raid horns sound? Israel, is the only democratic country in the Middle East. The history of this region cannot be rewritten to suit one nation or country. As a note, when I went with the US Conference of Mayors to Saudi Arabia, the Museum did not even have Israel on their version of the world map. Many that I spoke with, supported a two-state solution, but certainly, are not vocal about their positions. At the rally, I had the chance to speak with an older gentleman about the history of the region. History is so important to understand, the centuries of oppression. He summed it up in an email to me. The major point, being that there was never a Palestinian State. "Before Israel, there was a British mandate, not a Palestinian state. Before the British Mandate, there was the Ottoman Empire, not a Palestinian state. Before the Ottoman Empire, there was the Islamic state of the Mamluks of Egypt, not a Palestinian state. Before the Islamic state of the Mamluks of Egypt, there was the Ayubid Arab-Kurdish Empire, not a Palestinian state. Godfrey IV of Boulogne, known as Godfrey de Bouillon, conqueror of Jerusalem in 1099, before the Ayubid Empire, there was the Frankish and Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem, not a Palestinian state. Before the Kingdom of Jerusalem, there was the Umayyad and Fatimid empires, not a Palestinian state. Before the Umayyad and Fatimid empires, there was the Byzantine Empire, not a Palestinian state. Before the Byzantine Empire, there were the Sassanids, not a Palestinian state. Before the Sassanid Empire, there was the Byzantine Empire, not a Palestinian state. Before the Byzantine Empire, there was the Roman Empire, not a Palestinian state. Before the Roman Empire, there was the Hasmonean state, not a Palestinian state. Before the Hasmonean state, there was the Seleucid, not a Palestinian state. Before the Seleucid Empire, there was the Empire of Alexander the Great, not a Palestinian state. Before the Empire of Alexander the Great, there was the Persian Empire, not a Palestinian state. Before the Persian Empire, there was the Babylonian Empire, not a Palestinian state. Before the Babylonian Empire, there were the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, not a Palestinian state. Before the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, there was the Kingdom of Israel, not a Palestinian state. Before the Kingdom of Israel, there was the theocracy of the twelve tribes of Israel, not a Palestinian state. Before the theocracy of the twelve tribes of Israel, there was an agglomeration of independent Canaanite City-Kingdoms, not a Palestinian state. The Jewish finally have a home, they have the right to defend it and over, the past years, they have also had to defend themselves. Now we are having to defend ourselves, here. WE ALL need to unite against this hate. In my opinion, these terrorist groups which include far right Hammas, White Supremacists, KKK, Skin Heads, Neo-Nazi, Proud Boys, sadly, the far left Antifa and BLM Movements, which have been hijacked by extremists and are simply groups fueled by feeding lies to individuals, that are disenfranchised. The combination of the former President, not standing strong against these hate groups and economic unrests have added fuel to this fire, that needs to be put out, now. Social media and the cowardly trolls, hiding behind their computers, spewing out, lie after lie, need to be called out and stopped. I also saw this, on my visit to the Middle East for Government and Leadership matters regarding Israel and the commitment to education and matters of economic success. The stark contrast to Israeli cities to others, across the border, are real. In Saudi Arabia, the King has set into place an economic development plan to build their county. Investments in educational and Economic Centers are making a difference in the lives of their constituents. These countries need to focus on investing in their people, not guns and missiles to annihilate Israel. As always, feel free to contact me anytime with your questions, concerns and ideas to make our City, a great place to live work and play! I am available on my phone or by text at: (954) 632-5700. - How Digital Health Is Making Early Type 1 Diabetes Screening Easier | sun-times
How Digital Health Is Making Early Type 1 Diabetes Screening Easier (BPT) - By Mariano Bendersky, Head of Digital Healthcare & Innovation, U.S. Autoimmune T1D at Sanofi Jul 10, 2025 Healthcare (As We Know It) Is Evolving To Meet The Needs Of An Increasingly Digital World. Between Telehealth Adoption And People Of All Ages Embracing "Health From Home" Solutions, It's Clear That New Tools And Resources Are Shifting How People Look At, And Manage, Their Care - Expanding Preventative Care And Wellness For Communities With Unmet Needs. Take the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) space, as one example. Today, new and exciting advancements are working to reduce barriers, increase access, and expand optionality when it comes to early T1D autoantibody screening. And it couldn't come at a better time. While T1D screening helps people understand their risk of developing the disease before symptoms (and potentially serious complications) appear, many are unaware that screening exists. Perhaps even more troubling, some have difficulty accessing it. Thanks to an influx of digital innovation in the existing screening landscape, this is all about to change. Why T1D screening matters According to the T1D Index, an estimated 1.6 million people in the U.S. are living with T1D - an Autoimmune Disease wherein the Pancreas makes little to no Insulin. The disease doesn't occur overnight; it develops in stages over time. That said, in Stages 1 and 2 of the T1D, there are often no visible signs or symptoms, making it difficult to spot early. As a result, many are forced to find out about their diagnosis in Stage 3, when potentially severe complications can arise. Unfortunately, according to Global Pediatric Health, as many as four in 10 people don't know they have T1D until they are already in the hospital with life-threatening complications. What's more, a status report in Diabetes shows that up to 90% of people diagnosed with T1D have no family history of the disease. Experiencing a T1D diagnosis like this - in an urgent scenario and with little prior exposure to the disease - can understandably be overwhelming. In an instant, you're thrusted into a new reality that requires 24/7 disease management. For this reason and more, early detection of the disease is valuable because it can offer a precious window of time when individuals can learn more about how to prepare for life with T1D before symptoms arise. Modernizing T1D screening access In an effort to complement currently available T1D screening options and bring this potentially life-saving process to the digital age, Screening Central was born. As the first telehealth-enabled, user-initiated platform to request T1D autoantibody screening, Screening Central offers a comprehensive and convenient solution to help with every step of T1D screening. Developed in collaboration with Sanofi, the platform breaks down the process into three steps. • Getting Started: To start, visit Screening Central and answer a short health history questionnaire. • Getting Evaluated for Testing: From there, your information will be evaluated by an independent healthcare provider, who will determine whether you are an appropriate candidate for screening. If confirmed, you can decide what your preferred screening method is, which could include talking to your doctor, getting tested at a lab, or participating in research trials. • Getting Your Results: After that, you will receive a phone call or arrange a televisit to discuss results or you can choose to have results shared directly with your doctor. In 2025, no one should find out they have T1D in Stage 3 under potentially life-threatening circumstances. By leveraging end-to-end digital health innovation, Screening Central helps overcome existing barriers to screening and makes it easier than ever to put early T1D risk detection first. As you can see, innovation is truly around every corner in the T1D space. Equipped with breakthrough advancements like Screening Central, now is the time to learn more about T1D and understand if screening is right for you. It’s designed to inspire participants to prioritize self-care, celebrate their bodies, and invest in their overall well-being. "The Love Your Body Challenge” is about more than just shedding pounds; it promotes self-acceptance and celebrates diversity in all body shapes and sizes," said David Roddenberry, HealthyWage Co-Founder "It’s also about embracing the weight-loss journey, practicing self-care and recognizing the strength and beauty within at every stage the process. This challenge aligns with numerous 2024 studies highlighting the importance of body positivity and mental health, including research finding that taking breaks from social media can significantly enhance self-esteem and body image. Other study findings confirmed that exposure to body-positive imagery boosts satisfaction and reduces weight concerns. We embrace these mindsets and practices, which can reduce angst during one’s weight-loss journey and make the experience over much more joyful…not to mention lucrative.” Challenge Details The "$10,000 Love Your Body Weight Loss Challenge" is completely free to join and is entirely funded by HealthyWage, itself. Participants can win up to $10,000 for achieving their targets. HealthyWage is founded on substantive research and "double-incentivization" methodology that proves competition and rewards—especially the cash variety—can as much as triple the effectiveness of weight loss programs. And, the proof is in the performance in the form of quantifiable and undeniable metrics that behavioral economics-based gamification works when it comes to weight loss. “Studies continue to show that monetary incentives serve to enhance the effectiveness of, and duly complement, weight-loss programs of any and all sorts, especially when paid out quickly like our various programs,” said Roddenberry. “The average HealthyWager participant more than doubles their investment if they are successful at achieving their goal. The financial upside potential is impressive.” So effective is this diet gamification method, famous personalities have joined HealthyWage in the fight to get America fit including global health and fitness expert Jillian Michaels, as well as actress and talk show host Sherri Shepherd, to name a few. About HealthyWage™ Industry-leading health and wellness purveyor HealthyWage provides cash incentives, social and expert-based support, tools and resources, and goal-setting and tracking technologies to address our nation’s obesity epidemic and improve America’s collective health. HealthyWage is at the forefront of the weight wagering movement, having formally created competitive, cash-fueled programs for more than 90 Fortune 500 and other companies, hospitals, health systems, insurers, school systems, municipal governments and other organizations throughout the U.S., and their program has been more informally run at more than 3,000 companies and organizations. The company was founded in response to academic research that proves even small cash rewards triple the effectiveness of weight-loss programs; that people are more effective at losing weight when their own money is at risk; and that social networks play a large role in the spread of obesity, and will likely play a large role in reversing obesity. - Gun Violence, Homeless And Keeping Our City Clean
Gun Violence, Homeless And Keeping Our City Clean By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper September 14, 2023 Share It is such an honor to serve as Mayor of Hallandale Beach. I have always served with the commitment and belief that I am here to help every resident and stakeholder which means being available every day no matter what. My Dad was a Public Servant. He served as the Chief Chemist for the State of New Jersey. He taught me a very important life lesson. No matter what, return every phone call. Even if it is just to confirm to the caller you received it. Let the person know you value them and receive the message. Let them know you will follow up the next day. With today’s instant technology it still holds true. Part of being successful is showing up and making sure you are listening. More importantly follow up. Over the past months there have been three issues that have been reoccurring in online chats, news and emails. Gun violence, Homeless and Right of Way maintenance. I have heard, as I am sure my colleagues have too, we are listening. These issues are not readily solved by the simple action of the City. As a matter of fact, they do take multiple individual agencies and yes community involvement, This does not mean they do not need to be addressed. All are important to the quality of life of our community. Over the past year and a half there have been far too many shootings in our City and the surrounding area. Our City has installed Shotspotter Technology within our borders. This Technology tells us that within seconds a gun was shot off. Our Police Department can respond. What is alarming is that if we correlate this with calls to Police, only a small percentage, less than 10% get reported. That means people are not reporting crime. PD is showing up and sadly there are no residents willing to stand up and report. This hinders our ability to find criminals and solve crime. More importantly, prevent the further loss of life. This fear factor is real. We get it. As a victim of an armed robbery, I personally get it. That is why we have an anonymous tip line. I requested it over 15 years ago. It is not tied to 911 nor Non-Emergency Numbers. It is a direct line to leave tips at: (954) 457-1404. As a matter of fact, I named it “1 one call 4 for 0 our 4 miles.” WE need your help! Not just to fight crime but to prevent crime. Call it and leave a message! As a City we cannot change Gun Laws. As a City we can only advocate for Common Sense Laws. Residents, parents and even children need to know if we all work together we can help save lives. The school board is also working on this issue. We are not just fighting gangs, we are fighting bullying and threats on Social Media. This new Technology has made violence even worse. They are promoting a safe way to report Cyber Bullying. Parents need to get involved with following their children’s tech activities. There is a great amount of information on the BCPS website. They have multiple ways to report safety issues. They also are having meetings to gather input on school issues. As Mayor, on behalf of the Commission I have spoken up at the Board Meetings on safety including Gun Detectors. Parents need to attend meetings or at least follow the meeting and share comments on agenda items. The meeting for our area is at Sheridan Technical School at 5400 Sheridan Street, Hollywood, Florida 33021 on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. The Homeless issue is extremely complex. Our department now has a community officer working on this issue. I just had the chance to attend the US Conference of Mayors Leadership Meeting as Trustee where there was one day committed to addressing this Humanitarian Crisis. Every city large and small has reached a turning point with this issue. I do not want to oversimplify but it comes down to three silos; homeless that have had hard times and are looking for help and can handle rehousing. Drug Addicts that need treatment before they can even deal with being in housing and the extremely Mentally Ill that need Mental Hospitals then continue Treatment or Permanent Mental Hospitalization rather than being put in jails. I want to let our residents know that we will continue to work with all our county and state partners on the issue. The one message I did take away was that leaving individuals on the street is definitely more inhuman than forcing them to get help. This was not for elected officials but from individual testimony. Survivors on the streets and those helping get individuals out of camps. Our rights of way, the property between the road and private property owners, are to be maintained by the property owners. I believe that many people simply do not understand these rules. As a City, we make sure properties are clean through the Code Enforcement Process. Not all property is maintained by the City. Our roadways are City, County and State. This is where residents can help. If you see trash, report it on our City's App MyHB. The App provides us with real time complaints. Our City will continue to address the cleanup of our areas of responsibility, but this is a shared effort. The Final Budget Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 26th, 2023 at 5:05 p.m. at City Hall located at 400 South Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, Florida 33009. Every resident is encouraged to come out to participate or watch the meeting live. As always, please feel free to contact me anytime with your questions, concerns, and ideas to make our City a better place. I am available at: jcooper@cohb.org . Or at: joycooper@aol.com .
