  • Life After Stroke: Tips For Recovery And Daily Living

Life After Stroke: Tips For Recovery And Daily Living January 5, 2023 Share In the weeks and months immediately following a Stroke, an early rehabilitation program offers the best possible recovery outcomes. While each person's Stroke Recovery journey is unique, starting the path toward rehabilitation as soon as it's medically safe allows Stroke Survivors to mitigate the lasting effects. According to the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, each year, approximately 800,000 people in the United States have a Stroke. Strokes can happen to anyone, at any age. In fact, globally about 1 in 4 adults over the age of 25 will have a Stroke in their lifetime. Early Intervention The rehabilitation and support a survivor receives can greatly influence health outcomes and recovery. The first three months after a Stroke are especially critical. Although recovery may continue for years after a Stroke, this time in the immediate aftermath of a Stroke is when the brain is most able to adjust to the damage done by the Stroke so the survivor can learn new ways to do things. Physical, Communication and Cognitive Changes Following a Stroke, a survivor may experience physical changes, such as: Fatigue, Seizures, Weakness or Paralysis on one side of the body or Spasticity, Stiff or Rigid Muscles which may cause difficulty with completing daily activities and tasks. If experiencing Fatigue, speak with your Health Care Provider about ways to reduce it. Your care team may also be able to provide medications to help with Seizures and Spasticity. Physical Therapy is also an option. Challenges after a Stroke depend on the severity and location of the Stroke. In addition to various Physical Disabilities, Stroke Survivors may experience Aphasia, communication and thought problems related to speaking, listening, understanding or memory. Planning, organizing ideas or making decisions can also be harder. "Remember to be patient when communicating with a Stroke Survivor," said Elissa Charbonneau, M.S., D.O., Chief Medical Officer of Encompass Health and an American Stroke Association National Volunteer. "The impact of a Stroke on cognitive, speech and language can be significant and isolating. When connecting with a Stroke Survivor, some helpful practices include: demonstrating tasks, breaking actions into smaller steps, enunciating, asking multiple choice questions and repetition." Customized Rehabilitation Once a Stroke Survivor's medical condition is stabilized and he or she is ready to leave the hospital, rehabilitation can help restore function and teach new ways to complete everyday tasks. Rehabilitation may take place in an Inpatient Facility, Skilled Nursing Facility or Long-Term Acute Care Facility. Outpatient Clinics and Home Health Agencies can also provide Rehabilitative Care in certain circumstances. One patient's rehab journey might include therapy to improve balance, strength or mobility while another might need speech or other therapies. A rehabilitation designed for the individual is critical. Preventing A Recurrence After a first Stroke, nearly 1 in 4 survivors will have another. Stroke Survivors can help reduce their risk of having another Stroke by working with their health care team to identify what caused the Stroke and uncover personal risk factors. Taking steps such as: healthy eating, reducing sedentary time and taking medications as prescribed can help your brain and reduce your risk of a repeat Stroke. Controlling conditions such as: High Blood Pressure, Diabetes and Sleep Apnea also reduce your risk of having another Stroke. Support During Your Journey Caregivers and other loved ones can provide important long-term support during your recovery and rehabilitation. Find resources for Stroke Rehab and Recovery including the "Life After Stroke" guide, "Simply Good" cookbook and a support network to connect with other survivors at: www.Stroke.org/Recovery < Previous News Next News >

  • Monkeypox “Emergency” The Newest Threat to Medical Freedom

Monkeypox “Emergency” The Newest Threat to Medical Freedom By Elizabeth Lee Vliet, M.D. August 11, 2022 Share The World Health Organization declaration of Monkeypox as a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern” (PHEIC), was made by one man, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who has no medical training, over the objection of the majority of his own expert committee of medical and scientific advisors. Nine of the committee members thought a PHEIC should not be declared and six supported a declaration. “Nine and six is very, very close. Since the role of the committee is to advise, I decided to act as a tie-breaker,” Tedros said in a news conference called to announce the decision.” Perhaps it is the “new math” that leads to the conclusion of a “tie” with a 3-vote majority on one side? And why did Tedros decide to go with the minority opinion rather than the majority? Rosamund Lewis, the WHO technical lead for Monkeypox, said in a July 20 Press Conference: “About 98 percent of (Monkeypox) cases are among men who have sex with men—and primarily those who have multiple recent anonymous or new partners.” She then said they are typically young and chiefly live in urban areas. So why did Tedros decide unilaterally to declare a Global Emergency for the vast majority of people who do not fit this profile? A little-known fact about the PHEIC designation is that it triggers implementation of the International Health Regulations signed in 2005 by more than 190 countries. It seems evident that WHO plans to continue their power, implemented with the COVID Emergency Declaration, to dictate global public health policies and their directives for oppressive measures such as lockdowns and travel restrictions that WHO pushed globally during COVID. Since COVID obviously wasn’t stopped, WHO appears determined to implement still more draconian measures and push more coercive Vaccine Mandates. Conveniently, shortly just before the Monkeypox scare, Bavarian Nordic’s JYNNEOS Vaccine was approved by the FDA in September 2019 for use against both Smallpox and its cousin Monkeypox. This is in spite of published data showing JYNNEOS’s product is associated with higher risk of Myocarditis, also a serious risk with the COVID Shots. The U.S. Government has reportedly stockpiled enough Smallpox Vaccines for the entire population in the event of a biowarfare attack, and has recently ordered $113 Million worth of the Vaccines from Bavarian Nordic, with an option to buy $180 Million more for a total of 13 million doses. Conceivably, the U.S. could mandate this Vaccine, if enough could be made. Voluntary compliance would likely be a problem, as Smallpox Vaccines are already well-known to cause Myocarditis and Pericarditis, already causing death and disability world-wide with COVID-19 Vaccines. Monkeypox has been known in Africa since 1958, primarily as a disease of ground squirrels. It can spread to monkeys and humans with close contact and poor hygiene, but very few cases have been reported outside Africa before now. Monkeypox is far less contagious than Smallpox, Influenza, or COVID and is much milder than Smallpox and unlikely to be lethal. You catch Monkeypox from contact with bodily fluids such as saliva or semen, as well as skin lesions, either directly or from soiled linens or clothing. Symptoms include: Fever, headaches and lymph node swelling followed by an eruption of pus-filled blisters. The skin lesions can resemble those of Shingles, Chickenpox, or Syphilis. The rash tends to start on the face and has the unusual feature that blisters can form on the palms of the hands. The first cases were associated with two large European “raves.” The Canary Island event occurred—just coincidentally—on the same date as a hypothetical bioterror attack modeled in an Event 201-style wargame exercise about release of an engineered Monkeypox Virus, “a pathogen engineered in a laboratory with inadequate biosafety, biosecurity provisions and weak oversight.” A whole series of Pandemic simulations have been run by globalists since 2000. Is the purpose to protect public health? Or to increase the globalists’ power and destroy individual medical freedom and national sovereignty? Americans must learn from the COVID debacle: take sensible precautions, but don’t fall for the fear and do not surrender your rights, especially not to WHO. • 1-in-4 Floridians Would Ignore Hurricane Evacuation Warnings: The AAA Auto Club Group Shares The Top Insurance Policies To Consider During Hurricane Season

1-in-4 Floridians Would Ignore Hurricane Evacuation Warnings: The AAA Auto Club Group Shares The Top Insurance Policies To Consider During Hurricane Season June 13, 2024 Share Severe weather like hurricanes can wreak havoc on your home, damage your vehicle, and sidetrack your summer vacation. That’s why AAA is sharing its top insurance policies for Hurricane Season to help Floridians protect their property and travel plans. But first, The Auto Club Group is releasing the findings from its Annual Hurricane Season survey. According to the survey, nearly a quarter of Florida residents (23%) do NOT make advanced preparations for Hurricane Season or severe weather. Even more concerning, 27% say they would ignore warnings to evacuate in the event of a Hurricane. Of those who would evacuate, nearly two-thirds (64%) say they would not leave their homes unless an approaching Hurricane was a Category 3 or stronger. The top reasons Floridians cite for ignoring evacuation warnings: 33% − Want to stay in case there’s damage to their home or property that they can fix. 29% − Believe the storm will turn away from their direction. 24% − Don’t know where to go. 23% − Financial reasons (e.g., can’t afford a hotel). 20% − Can’t bring their pets/Don’t have a safe option for them. 19% − Fear of looting after the storm. “Staying in the path of a potentially deadly storm is just not worth the risk,” said Mark Jenkins, Public Relations Manager for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Take steps now to develop an evacuation plan for your family and pets. If you’re worried about property damage, contact your insurance advisor. Having adequate coverage will give you the peace-of-mind in knowing that anything damaged while you’re gone can be repaired or replaced.” Top Insurance Policies for Hurricane Season Hurricanes and severe weather can severely damage everything from your home to your travel plans. Here are some important coverages to consider this Hurricane Season: Home – Homeowner’s insurance covers your property from wind damage. It DOES NOT cover flood damage created by rising water that enters your home. Flooding – Flood insurance is a separate policy. This DOES cover losses created by rising water that enters your home. Vehicle – Comprehensive auto coverage helps if a tree falls on your vehicle, or it is damaged by flooding or hail. Vehicle damage is not automatically covered under your homeowner’s policy. Vacations – Travel insurance is important for anyone planning a summer or fall vacation. If severe weather interferes with your travel plans, there are travel insurance policies that reimburse you for covered losses associated with flight delays and cancellations. They can also provide partial or full reimbursement of non-refundable deposits on hotels, cruises and excursions. What to do Now to Prepare Review your Insurance Coverage - Review your homeowner’s insurance with your licensed agent to determine if you have adequate protection. Discuss your deductibles and ensure any recent home upgrades like pools, screen enclosures, and fences are covered. Store your insurance and flood policy numbers on your phone - Document your insurance provider’s phone number for filing a claim. Understand the various methods for filing a claim - Find out if your provider allows you to file a claim on a website or mobile app. Doing so can speed up the filing process, as high demand can result in long wait times over the phone. Take Home Inventory - Document your belongings by walking through your home with a video camera or smartphone. Keep a record of large purchases including receipts, the cost of the item, purchase date, and model and serial numbers. Importance of Flood Insurance Store important documents in a portable waterproof container - Documents could include birth certificates, social security cards, insurance policy information, and more. Flooding is the most common and costly natural disaster in the United States. It can occur anywhere in Florida, even on properties that are not in a ‘high risk flood zone’. “All it takes is the right amount of rainfall to put your property at risk,” said Jennifer Pintacuda, President of AAA’s Florida-based insurance companies. “Storms can be unpredictable. Hurricanes can stall overhead. That’s why we encourage all Floridians to consider a flood insurance policy. But act now. If you wait until a storm forms, it could be too late.” There is a 30-day waiting period for all new flood insurance policies issued through the National Flood Insurance Program. However, more than half of Florida homeowners (52%) are not aware of that. According to AAA’s survey, 64% of Florida homeowners do not have flood insurance. The reasons cited were: 64% − I do not live in a flood zone. 33% − I have never had flooding problems before. 28% − It’s too expensive. 7% − I have homeowner’s insurance, that should be enough. Flood Insurance Facts • Flooding caused more than $7 Billion in damage last year (NOAA). • Nearly 40% of all flood insurance claims come from homes which are not considered high-risk flood zones. • Flood losses are costly. One inch of water in your home can cost $25,000 or more to repair. • Without flood insurance, homeowners could apply for federal disaster assistance via a loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration. However, unlike claims payments for flood insurance, SBA loans must be repaid. • Flood insurance rates are based on each individual property’s characteristics, including the flood frequency, elevation, distance from a water source and cost to rebuild. • Not Getting Results From Your Vitamin C Serum? Here Are 4 Reasons Why

Not Getting Results From Your Vitamin C Serum? Here Are 4 Reasons Why By BPT July 4, 2024 Share One of the most praised skincare ingredients on Social Media is Vitamin C, with influencers and dermatologists alike touting its benefits of brightening the skin, adding luminosity and even diminishing the signs of aging. Is the hype real? The answer: Yes, but it's a bit more complicated than that. Vitamin C can indeed do all of these things, and more, for your skin. But because Vitamin C is an unstable molecule, it can break down easily. How it's formulated and packaged really matters in terms of its efficacy. Not all brands get it right. "Using a Vitamin C Serum consistently not only helps protect and repair damage from UV and environmental stressors, but it can also lighten, brighten and diminish the signs of aging," says Dr. Azadeh Shirazi, Board-Certified Dermatologist. "But it's important for consumers to do their homework and invest in products with stabilized formulations and optimal packaging to deliver the best results." The market is flooded with Vitamin C Serums from many brands. How can you make sure you're choosing the right one? Here's what you need to know. Vitamin C Serums are concentrated skincare treatments that use a powerful antioxidant to revitalize, brighten and tighten the skin. The top benefits of using a Vitamin C Serum include the following: • Luminosity. Vitamin C helps produce a brighter and more even skin tone, giving you a radiant, luminous glow. • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It helps stimulate Collagen production, which increases skin's firmness and elasticity. • Brightens dark spots. Can help fade dark spots because it inhibits an enzyme that causes discoloration. • Antioxidant protection. Helps protect your skin from Free Radicals that come from environmental aggressors, which cause premature aging. That's why it's best to use it in the morning. The protection lasts all day long. Even with these great benefits, Vitamin C Serums are NOT created equal. You might find yourself not getting the results you want or feeling uncertain with what, if anything, it does for your skin. If this sounds familiar, you may have chosen the wrong brand. Here are some common mistakes people make when choosing a Vitamin C Serum: Choosing a little-known brand. Yes, you'll find many brands out there on Social Media, touted by influencers and celebrities. But choosing a respected, trusted brand matters. For example, RoC Skincare, an esteemed brand developed directly with dermatologists, has a Multi Correxion Revive + Glow Vitamin C Serum, which is the result of years of research and clinical testing. It combines a patent-pending blend of 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, the most stable and effective form of Vitamin C, with Peptides to help nourish and calm skin. This powerful combination produced incredible results in clinical trials - 94% of users reported instant luminosity and improved elasticity, and within 4 weeks, 100% reported brighter, tighter skin and reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. Not looking at the packaging. Because Vitamin C can degrade, opaque packaging keeps it stable and effective longer. If you choose a brand with a glass bottle - if you can see the serum in the jar, in other words - that serum may lose its efficacy before you use the last dose in the bottle. It'll do little for you that plain water can't. Too highly concentrated formulation. Some Vitamin C products contain acids that can irritate the skin and cause redness. Look for a brand that contains a more gentle formulation. Too expensive. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on a serum. More expensive doesn't mean better. Instead of looking for a high price tag and thinking that might mean it's a better product, look at clinical results. That should be your benchmark. According to research RoC's Serum is affordable and one of the most effective on the market today. Bottom line, when choosing a Vitamin C Serum, choose one from a company you trust that offers clinical results and is dermatologist-recommended. Brighter, more luminous skin awaits! < Previous News Next News >
