  • ZOA Condemns Mamdani’s Ending Executive Orders Protecting Jews | sun-times

ZOA Condemns Mamdani’s Ending Executive Orders Protecting Jews Jewish Connection News Jan 15, 2026 Israeli Minister Of Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli: “Mamdani Is An Overt Antisemite And Terror Supporter” Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) National President Morton A. Klein released the following statement: The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) condemns Communist, Jew-hating, radical Muslim, NYC Mayor Mamdani’s first acts in office, which endanger New York’s Jews and all Americans. Among other things, Mamdani immediately revoked New York City’s executive orders that protect New York’s Jewish citizens and synagogues, and appointed Israel-basher, lawyer-for-terrorists, and law enforcement opponent Ramzi Kassem as New York City’s Chief Counsel. Mamdani immediately and despicably acted to revoke former Mayor Adams’ executive orders recognizing the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism; prohibiting mayoral appointees and agency staff from boycotting and disinvesting from Israel; and ordering a reassessment of how New York protects houses of worship (which Mayor Adams had issued following threatening riots outside a New York synagogue). The IHRA definition is a widely-accepted essential tool for identifying and combating antisemitism, including certain forms of antisemitism that are thinly disguised as anti-Zionism. Under IHRA’s rational definition, Mamdani is an antisemite. Boycotts, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) are designed to economically destroy and delegitimize Israel, and are also being used to target and harm American Jews and their businesses, artists and academics, and to harm non-Jewish American businesses that may have some vague or alleged connection to Israel or Jewish entities. Mamdani is an avowed anti-Zionist and BDS supporter, so his hateful, dangerous anti-Jewish revocations are sadly not surprising. For anyone who believed Mamdani’s affordability propaganda, this should be a wake-up call that Mamdani will use every lever of his power as mayor to harm the Jewish State of Israel and New York’s Jewish community. As Israel’s Foreign Ministry aptly wrote about these dangerous revocations: “On his very first day as NYC Mayor, Mamdani shows his true face: He scraps the IHRA definition of antisemitism and lifts restrictions on boycotting Israel. This isn’t leadership. It’s antisemitic gasoline on an open fire.” Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli said Mamdani is an “overt antisemite and terror supporter.” Mamdani’s appointment of radical Muslim Ramzi Kassem—who is an Israel-hater, an opponent of law enforcement, and a lawyer for Al-Qaeda terrorists and pro-Islamic Hamas campus agitators, as Chief Counsel—is also extremely dangerous and alarming. The NYC Chief Counsel wields immense power and influence over city policy, legislation, ethics, and legal direction, and has oversight of city agencies. Kassem’s record makes him the wrong person for this role, and a danger to New Yorkers. In his 2017 article entitled “Rebellious Lawyering in the Security State,” Kassem describes his and his CUNY Law School organization CLEAR’s extensive work to prevent the FBI from questioning Muslims and obtaining Muslim informants. The article persistently derided law enforcement as the overly aggressive “real danger” and accused law enforcement of “demonizing” Muslims at a “new fever pitch.” Kassem consistently treated Islamic terror as an imaginary excuse for law enforcement’s efforts to uncover terror activities. For instance, Kassem’s article and organization calls for “opposition to state power that is deployed in the name of security and counterterrorism.” That opposition included Kassem’s and CLEAR’s massive efforts to convince the Muslim community not to speak with law enforcement without the interference of a CLEAR lawyer or at all. Kassem also transformed ordinary law enforcement actions into “coercion.” For instance, Kassem argued in his article that an FBI visit of agents “sometimes wearing jackets emblazoned with FBI in loud, yellow lettering, can be inherently coercive.” Kassem and his organization thus assisted terror organizations, including in Muslim Al-Qaeda’s strategy of radicalizing the American Muslim community – a strategy described by former Chairman of the House of Representatives, Homeland Committee Chairman Peter King, and confirmed by top Obama Administration members Denis McDonough and AG Eric Holder. Chairman King explained that in nine years, the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Departments did not receive even one tip about terror activities, despite two mosques knowing about an Al-Qaeda terrorist in the community. Instead, Muslim Imams in the mosques told community members to not cooperate, obstructed investigations, and threatened those who came forward. Someone with Kassem’s opposition to Muslim cooperation with law enforcement is an extraordinarily dangerous choice for NYC Chief Counsel. But Kassem’s opposition to law enforcement did not stop there. Kassem was also the lead defense lawyer for Al-Qaeda radical Muslim terrorist Ahmed al-Darbi, who was convicted by a U.S. military commission in connection with the 2002 attack on the French oil tanker Limburg; represented 15 prisoners held at Guantanamo, Bagram and other facilities holding terrorists; represents illegal aliens against ICE; and represented radical Muslim Mahmoud Khalil, an anti-Israel Algerian-Palestinian Arab who assisted the antisemitic harassment of Jewish students during pro-Hamas encampments at Columbia University. ZOA calls on New York Governor Hochul, New York’s legislators, and federal legislators and officials to do everything possible to counteract Mamdani’s dangerous administration, including finally enacting strong anti-BDS laws and protections for synagogues at the state and federal level. We urge all Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and other leaders to speak out against these un-American policies. Silence is complicity. Previous Next

  • Hallandale Beach Development Update

Hallandale Beach Development Update By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper October 14, 2021 Share There are some exciting developments happening in our City. Our residents should be assured that we have put in place the necessary regulations, impacts and fees to provide redevelopment is taking place with the proper oversight. All of these projects are listed on our website at: www.cohb.org As business meetings begin to go live it was an honor to present to the Aventura Marketing Council’s recent Mayor's Forum. Gulfstream Park hosted the first event for all of the North Dade Mayors and myself, right here in Hallandale Beach. While attendance was limited it was wonderful to see many of my colleagues and spend time discussing our City. Since the Pandemic started many city and government operations have been shut down. The one thing that did not end was construction. We as a City grappled with the impacts of construction on buildings where many residents were quarantined. We fought a losing battle with the Governor to at least halt unnecessary building projects until the Pandemic subsided. In many of our condominium buildings, these projects were tied to 40-year inspections. They fit the category of life safety. It became a double edged sword to prolong projects or simply get them done. After the presentations by the mayors, you would not have even thought any Pandemic had occurred. It was the opposite. Every City in South Florida is going through rebuilding, new construction and major infrastructure projects and Hallandale Beach is the same. It’s been a while since I have reviewed the redevelopment projects in the City. We continue to see great interest and investments along all our corridors. 2000 Ocean was topped off during the Pandemic and they are working on receiving their TCO, so they can allow for inside construction. The 64-unit condominium projects will bring the first Luxury project to the beach in over 15 years. As you head West, 100 Diplomat Parkway is now under construction, it is made up of 250 apartment units. It is part of the entire reconstruction of the Diplomat Country Club and Spa. That project includes 3 other buildings that are planned to be developed on the existing footprint of the Hotel Spa. The Golf Course has been totally redone and when it is completed there, will be a Hotel and Hotel Condo units. On West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, The Oasis has almost completed their first phase of construction. The approved plan is for the construction of 500 multi-family, 34,691 square feet of office space and 59,219 square feet of retail space. This is the first-Class A office to be built on the boulevard in years. Units are being sold and the retail space will be opening soon. Due to our Form Base Code and set impact fees, developers can come and apply without a long extensive approval process. These codes provide guidelines as to height, density, building types and importantly are set to impact fees to address our impacts on our infrastructure created from the development. They also allow for residents to understand what can be built and where. The added benefit built into the Form Base Code is they provide bonuses to build in mixed use residential units with retail and office spaces. This provides a catalyst for live work and play within our 4 square miles. Art Square was built with form base in mind. It was one of the first projects with live work units. The Accesso Office, The Beacon and The Atlantic Villages all have been built under this code. Atlantic Village is also in the process of designing Atlantic 4 at the corner of Federal Highway and Atlantic Shores Boulevard. Along US-1, we have many planned developments that have been approved over the years. These approvals remain in place due to special emergency orders granted by the Governor. The Peninsula Tower, Gulfstream Point, 900 Federal Highway and The Element have all been approved and are in various stages. Optima is under construction now and is another great addition to the Class A Office. Heading further West we are seeing infill housing being built. Leisure Apartments and Village at Bluesten Park are being constructed. Our new park system has also helped to promote interest in our City. The CRA recently partnered with the Solaris Apartments which is being built by Cornerstone adjacent to our central Bluesten Park. They will be adding 78 affordable housing units. Also, in the CRA, Hallandale City Center is a mixed- use affordable housing project. This development has been a bit long getting to the point of construction. They have brought in a new Capital investor and are in permitting. West construction, if finished up, occupies townhouse units called Hallandale Commons on Foster Road. This area once the building begins will see a long- awaited transformation of Foster Road. I could not leave out FADD, Fashion Art and Designs District. The Dixie corridor I have always said is a great place for redevelopment. With the energy created by Art Square and Icebox on NE 3rd Street there has been plenty of activity. Our City will be home to the first Container “Bodega.” This has also been a long process as we are the first in Broward County and are creating a new county code to accommodate container buildings. New restaurants and shops are springing up on 1st and the plan that the CRA adopted is finally coming to fruition. There are some exciting developments happening in our City. Our residents should be assured that we have put in place the necessary regulations, impacts and fees to provide redevelopment is taking place with the proper oversight. All of these projects are listed on our website at: www.cohb.org . As always, I am available anytime for your questions, concerns and ideas to make our City, a better place, on my phone/text at: (954) 632-5700. Or you can e-mail me at: jcooper@cohb.org . • A New Affordable "High-Rise": The City of Hollywood Welcomes Hudson Village To Downtown

A New Affordable "High-Rise": The City of Hollywood Welcomes Hudson Village To Downtown September 8, 2022 Share Housing Trust Group (HTG), an award-winning multifamily developer and one of the nation’s largest developers of affordable housing, is pleased to announce the completion of Hudson Village, a residential high-rise delivering 96 affordable apartments to Downtown Hollywood. Apartments at Hudson Village are reserved for residents earning 30, 60 or 70 percent of local area median income (AMI), with rents ranging from $401 to $1,300 for income-qualifying residents. The property is currently 100% percent occupied. It is the first new affordable “high-rise” residential development in the City of Hollywood in more than two decades. The development is part of an overall vision by the City of Hollywood to create a more pedestrian-friendly Downtown and increase the supply of high-quality attainably priced housing in areas close to commercial activity and new public transportation networks. Located at 901 South Federal Highway, Hollywood, Florida 33020 Hudson Village features striking contemporary architecture and luxurious amenities including a 6,000-square-foot pool deck. It is ideally located in Hollywood’s Central Business District, a mile and a half south of Young Circle and less than three miles from Hollywood Beach. Numerous shops, restaurants, grocery stores, schools and a library are within walking distance. “Hudson Village is a testament to the extraordinary things that are possible when the public and private sectors work together to address a critical need such as affordable housing,” said Matthew A. Rieger, President and CEO of Housing Trust Group. “Broward County is among the most cost-burdened counties in the entire country, with very limited affordable housing. This property will be a godsend for the many working families and students who currently face long commutes to their jobs in Downtown Hollywood or at the hotels and restaurants along the beach. We are deeply grateful to City Mayor Josh Levy, Communications, Marketing & Economic Development Director Raelin Storey and Director of Development Services Shiv Newaldass for their tireless support of this project.”
“This development exemplifies the kind of high quality, well-designed attainable housing that residents can be proud of and that enhances our City,” says Mayor Levy. “The HTG Team has paid attention to every detail to deliver a Class A product that working families can afford.” The $36 Million property, which broke ground in 2020, was financed with a $28 Million construction loan from Chase, $26 Million in 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credits from Florida Housing Finance Corporation syndicated through Raymond James Tax Credit Equity Funds with Chase as the Upper Tier Investor and a $9.75 Million permanent loan from Walker & Dunlop through Freddie Mac. “Hudson Village is a shining example of what affordable housing can and should be and it comes at a time of tremendous need in this community, and throughout South Florida,” said Tammy Haylock-Moore, Chase Bank’s Head of Community Development Lending in Florida. “We’re incredibly proud of our role in bringing Hudson Village to fruition and the impact it will have on the individuals and families who now call it home.” Also in Hollywood, HTG is developing a mixed-use commercial property on a 2.5-acre City-owned site on the east side of North 21st Street, between Filmore and Polk Streets, that will connect via a footbridge to a new commuter rail line connecting each of South Florida’s Downtowns. University Station, as it is called, will contain 216 apartments (200 of which will be reserved for residents earning up to 80 percent AMI); 4,000 square feet of commercial space; a facility to house Barry University’s College of Nursing and Health Services and a public parking garage. Hudson Village offers a mix of 54 one-bedroom, one-bath apartments with an average size of 748 square feet and 42 two-bedroom, two-bath apartments with an average size of 1,087 square feet. All apartments feature open floor plans and walk-in closets, kitchen islands with Daltile Quartz Countertops, Energy Star-Rated Stainless-Steel Appliances, Plank Flooring and low-flow fixtures for Water Efficiency. Almost all of the apartments have a private balcony, including two apartments on the fourth floor with large wrap around balconies. Residents of the east-facing apartments can enjoy views of the Atlantic Ocean and shoreline in the distance. The property’s amenities include a 6,000-square-foot pool deck with a large resort-style swimming pool, a trellis-covered BBQ area, lounge chairs and planters; a stunning lobby with seating area, media center and foosball table, along with a custom-made hanging glass art sculpture from Murano, Italy; a clubhouse/community room with a catering kitchen and bar, media center, ping-pong table and pool table; an extra-large fitness center with free weights and a Yoga/Spinning Room; a package delivery room; a bike storage room and a parking garage with 122 spaces. A covered arcade-style sidewalk and ground floor glass facade helps address one the City’s goals for the Federal Highway Corridor, which is to make the pedestrian environment more harmonious with the built environment. Landscaping was carefully coordinated with the City to ensure that a variety of native species were integrated into the areas surrounding the sidewalks. • What Professional Locksmiths Say Homeowners Get Wrong About Security | sun-times

What Professional Locksmiths Say Homeowners Get Wrong About Security By Family Features Mar 26, 2026 You Have Locks On Your Doors And Windows, And You Make Sure They're Secure Before You Leave The House Or Head To Bed Each Night. You May Even Have A Security System With An Alarm Or Cameras To Protect Your Home. Some Locksmiths Say That May Not Be Enough. Bryan McCabe, Director of Locksmith Operations with KeyMe Locksmiths, the nation's leading provider of local locksmith services and No. 1 provider of key duplication kiosks, said homeowners should be mindful of common security vulnerabilities, many of which go unnoticed until it's too late. A thief who wants to gain access to your home may do so by any means possible, including breaking windows or kicking in doors. However, those methods are loud and may attract attention. Instead, thieves will look to find the easiest house to enter. Consider these small changes you can make to deter thieves from your home. Close the Garage Leaving your garage door open may seem harmless, but it can signal easy access to thieves. An open garage suggests relaxed security habits and can make burglars assume doors or windows might also be unlocked. Keeping it closed is a simple step that instantly makes your home more secure. Make Your Home Look Lived-In Burglars often target homes that appear empty. Dark houses - especially after nightfall - can stand out as easy opportunities. Leaving a light or two on helps create the impression someone is home. If you want to level up, use light timers or smart bulbs to automatically turn lights on and off, even when you're away. Keep Your Home Visible from the Street Thieves prefer to work unnoticed. Overgrown trees, tall bushes, or dense landscaping near entrances can provide cover for someone trying to break in. Trimming greenery and maintaining clear sightlines from the street makes your home less appealing and more exposed - exactly what burglars want to avoid. Upgrade Entry Points to Improve Security Some relatively minor updates can make a big impact toward protecting your home. Start by assessing all home entry points, including secondary points like sliding doors, garage entries and basement doors. In addition to checking door frames, homeowners should examine strike plates, hinge security and whether existing locks are outdated. Add Eyes to Your Front Door with a Doorbell Camera Doorbell cameras are an affordable way to boost your home's security. Visible cameras can stop many would-be thieves as they don't want to be seen or recorded. Beyond deterrence, doorbell cameras let you see who's at your door, receive alerts and check on your home anytime, whether you're home or away. Install Smart Locks for Control and Peace of Mind Smart locks are another smart investment in home safety. They allow you to track who enters your home and when by assigning unique access codes. You can even lock (or unlock) the door remotely from your phone. With the ability to monitor, control and limit access, smart locks offer convenience and security. A local locksmith can help you choose the right option and handle installation, making the upgrade simple and stress-free. Connecting customers with professional locksmiths in their area, KeyMe Locksmiths provides comprehensive home security and lockout services - from key replacement to lock installation or repair - with more than 7,500 kiosks nationwide. These self-service machines utilize advanced technology for fast, accurate and "one-stop-shop" key copying, including home and office keys, car keys and fobs, mailboxes, padlocks and RFID access cards. • Keller’s Korner - 2026 Cadillac Championship | sun-times

Keller’s Korner - 2026 Cadillac Championship By Neil Keller May 19, 2026 Welcome To Keller’s Korner. It Was Another Spectacular Cadillac Championship At The Trump National Doral In Miami, Florida. The Tournament Ran From April 30 Through The Final Round On May 3, 2026, Marking A Celebrated Return To A Venue Rich With History. From 2007 through 2016, the Cadillac Championship was held annually at the Doral before departing the site—only to make its long‑awaited comeback this year. The Trump Organization hosted the event, and with President Donald Trump, his family, and guests in attendance, the grounds featured a significant Secret Service presence throughout the weekend. During the final round, I spoke with Eric Trump, son of President Trump, and asked for his thoughts on the tournament. Eric responded, “This has been incredible. It is exciting with the best players in the world playing.” If this were the Olympics, it would have been an American sweep of the medals. Cameron Young, Scottie Scheffler, and Ben Griffin led the way, with many fans expecting Scheffler—the world’s #1 golfer—to take home the title. But Cameron Young ended all suspense early, winning wire‑to‑wire with a commanding six‑shot advantage. On Sunday, President Trump was on site, and the golfers were well aware of his presence, underscored by the heightened security around the course. After securing his victory, Cameron Young spoke about the experience. “He was just very complimentary,” Cameron told the media. “I’ve been fortunate to meet him before, and that’s especially with us golfers—it’s something he loves, and I think he appreciates how good everybody is on the PGA Tour. So, really just hugely complementary, and I, of course, thanked him for hosting us and that was about it.” He added, “It’s very unique. He’s a very, very interesting man. He’s very powerful, and it’s an honor to get to play in front of him. Hugely grateful to him and his family and his organization that has these beautiful properties and allows us to come and play great golf tournaments on them. This is a special place and a great championship golf course. I’m thankful to have it back in the schedule.” Spotlight on the Jewish Golfers As always, I make it a priority to highlight the Jewish athletes competing in sporting events. This year’s Cadillac Championship featured four Jewish golfers: Daniel Berger, Max Greyserman, Max Homa, and David Lipsky. Daniel Berger Daniel Berger, 33, grew up in Key Biscayne, Florida. At just 13 years old, he made a hole‑in‑one—an early sign of the talent that would carry him to four PGA Tour victories. Interestingly, Daniel never played for his high school (Dwyer High School) golf team in Palm Beach Gardens. I had the honor of speaking with his father, Jay Berger, who was watching his son at the golf tournament. Jay was a former world‑class tennis player who reached a career‑high ranking of #7 in 1990. I asked Jay who first introduced Daniel to golf. “That was me,” Jay said. “We expressed our desire for him to go for it as a career. He started playing golf at the age of 11 in Key Biscayne.” Jay added proudly, “He is a great kid.” Daniel finished the tournament at 6 under, tying for 23rd place. Max Greyserman Max Greyserman, 30, grew up in New Jersey and now resides in Palm Beach Gardens. He has one professional win so far and interviewing him was a pleasure—especially when I noticed the belt he was wearing, decorated with the Israeli flag. “I got this belt from Athletes for Israel,” Max told me. I immediately told him how proud I was to see it. When I asked how he felt about his Saturday round, Max said, “I did not play great. I shot even. This is a tough course.” I asked who first got him into golf. “My parents did,” he said. “I was only 3 or 4 years old.” I then asked if he had a Bar Mitzvah. Max smiled and said, “Yes, I did.” His favorite golf course? He didn’t hesitate: “Augusta National,” home of The Masters. Max finished the tournament at 4 under, tying for 38th place. Max Homa The second Jewish Max in the field, Max Homa, grew up in California and now lives in Arizona. In my view, the 35 year old is currently the best Jewish golfer in the world, with six PGA Tour victories to his name. Max has a Jewish mother, attended Hebrew School, and had a Bar Mitzvah. In a 2023 Masters survey about the Champions Dinner menu, Max famously said, “I’m half‑Jewish, so maybe I’d throw in my mom’s matzo ball soup.” The course played tough all week, with temperatures soaring into the 90s on one of the days. Max finished at 4 under, tying for 38th place alongside Greyserman and nine others. David Lipsky David Lipsky, 37, grew up in Southern California and has a unique background—his father is Jewish and his mother is Korean. David told me his parents introduced him to golf when he was ten years old. He finished the tournament at 4 over, placing 71st. Overall, this was a great tournament offering fun times for people of all ages. Neil Keller is a Jewish historian. Visit www.NeilKeller.com to learn who is Jewish.
