Klein Released The Following Statement: After Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Rabbi Dr. Yechiel Leiter legitimately and understandably condemned the “J Street Cancer” that lobbied to stop arms sales to Israel during wartime, far left wing, extremist, anti-Israel J Street wrote a letter, signed by left wing Jewish leaders, attacking Ambassador Leiter and hypocritically demanding that disagreements must be conducted with “humanity, humility and respect for the dignity of every Jew” and that “leaders on both sides of the ocean bear a heightened responsibility to lower the flames rather than fan them further.” That’s rich, considering how the Jewish leaders who signed J Street’s letter — such as Union of Reform Judaism (URJ) President Rick Jacobs, Reform’s David Saperstein, Ambassdaor Dan Kurtzer, Head of National Council for Jewish Women, T’ruah CEO Jill Jacobs, Americans for Peace Now (APN) and New Israel Fund (NIF) — have spent years targeting, falsely maligning, disrespecting, name-calling as racist, launching petitions, attempting to oust from the Conference of Presidents, attempting to censor, and fanning the flames of hatred towards ZOA and ZOA President Morton Klein. For example, Rabbi Rick Jacobs and other extreme left wing signatories, who years ago defended Black Lives Matter, went into full attack mode against ZOA and Mr. Klein, after Morton Klein legitimately and accurately pointed out that the Black Lives Matter/Movement for Black Lives (BLM/M4BL) organizations’ platform, Social Media, speeches and events promoted vicious anti-Israel, anti-Jewish blood libels and BDS; and that BLM/M4BL incited a violent antisemitic pogrom in Los Angeles and nationwide antisemitic Days of Rage; and met with and were affiliated with designated Terrorist Organization PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) and PFLP front groups; as well as being corrupt. Reform Leader Rick Jacobs, who led the campaign, didn’t simply (wrongly) defend and praise Black Lives Matter. Jacobs bellowed at a Conference of Presidents meeting that “Black Lives Matter is the civil rights movement of our time!” Jacobs and the other left wing signatories didn’t even try to engage in gentlemanly debate, or attempt to rationally debunk the reams of evidence that ZOA compiled, or “engage” with ZOA at all. Jacobs and the other left wing signatories never responded to Morton Klein with any of the “humanity, humility, and respect” that they now demand of Ambassador Leiter. Instead, URJ President Rick Jacobs and the Conservative movement’s Rabbi Blumenthal launched a campaign to smear and remove ZOA and Morton Klein from membership in the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Rick Jacobs initiated a letter with 15 other groups (including other current J Street letter signatory groups) falsely accusing ZOA & ZOA President Morton Klein of “racism” and called for ostracizing ZOA because ZOA condemned BLM/M4BL’s vicious antisemitism and anti-Israelism. And after ZOA respectfully requested an apology from those who falsely maligned ZOA and Mr. Klein, only one individual (Stuart Appelbaum of the Jewish Labor Committee) had the decency to apologize. Notably, none of the other groups that defamed and wrongly attempted to oust ZOA have ever apologized. When Morton Klein recently asked one of the major signers for a “private” apology, he began to scream at Mort in front of Mort’s wife Rita to “get your face away from me.” We wonder, where was Rick Jacobs’ and his comrades’ “humanity, humility and respect” for other Jewish leaders and responsibility for “lowering the flames” then? In addition, signatories including New Israel Fund, a Reform Jewish group, and J Street launched a petition to remove ZOA from the Boston JCRC, primarily because of ZOA’s condemnation of the anti-Israel group Black Lives Matter. NIF’s representative admitted that he spent 8 months attempting to dredge up dirt to throw at ZOA for the petition. That’s “humanity, humility and respect”? ZOA had to waste precious time combating NIF’s, J Street’s, etc. phony charges and endure despicable attacks to successfully defeat their petition. Furthermore, J Street organized a misleading astroturf letter from supposed “student leaders,” which falsely attacked ZOA as “racist,” “bigoted,” “Islamophobic,” and called for the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations to oust and censure Conference Co-Founding Charter Member ZOA. ZOA’s analysis of the signatories uncovered that many were J Street officials and affiliates, or members of anti-Israel groups such as: SJP, JVP and J Street offshoot If Not Now. Where was J Street’s and its fellow travelers’ “humanity, humility, and respect” and “lowering the flames” when it wrongly attacked ZOA for pointing out dangers to the Jewish community then? Again, no apology for their defamatory charges. Notably, from the very outset, J Street targeted ZOA’s Morton Klein (showing him speaking and placing Mr. Klein in the middle of J Street’s infamous tic-tac-toe board of targets in J Street’s launch video) and targeted Christian Zionists such as Pastor John Hagee and Newt Gingrich (on the J Street target board’s other squares). J Street falsely accused these staunch Zionists of “blocking the path to peace,” and having “loud voices that don’t speak for you,” and condemned these Zionists for opposing pressuring Israel to give up her land to Palestinian terrorists. Where was J Street’s “humanity, humility and respect” and “lowering the temperature” when they falsely accused ZOA, Mort Klein and Christian Zionists of blocking peace, etc.? It’s clear that left wing leaders only demand “respect, humanity and humility … and lower the temperature” when people they agree with are attacked—not when people they disagree with are attacked. In fact, left wing leaders themselves brutally and regularly attack people whose policies they disagree with. ZOA has not been the only victim of J Street and its co-signers unrelenting, arrogant, duplicitous, disrespectful attacks and fanning the flames of hatred. J Street defames and damages the State of Israel, its people and its duly elected leaders in virtually every press release, speech, lobbying offensive and election funding operation – with no regard for “humanity, humility, respect” or “lowering the flames.” J Street’s recent campaigns to cut off arms sales to Israel – while Israel is in the middle of a seven-front existential war – is beyond the pale of any shred of decency or humanity towards Israel’s men, women and children. J Street’s and its comrades’ attack on Ambassador Leiter for telling the truth is also case-in-point – especially after Ambassador Leiter suffered the pain of losing his heroic son Major (Res.) Moshe Yedidyah, a physician and father of six young children, who died in battle defending the Jewish people in northern Gaza in November 2023. And we must not forget another major J Street signatory, Soros-funded T’ruah and its leader Jill Jacobs’ calls for halting weapons sales to Israel; and T’ruah’s vile campaign to defund and remove the tax exemption from the Central Fund of Israel (CFI). T’ruah’s campaign would prevent CFI from providing funds to 350 Israeli humanitarian charities dedicated to caring for and providing scholarships to special needs persons; providing nutrition; poverty relief; combating ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease); battered women shelters and other women’s assistance; helping Ethiopians and other vulnerable groups obtain jobs; helping bereaved mothers, fathers, widows, orphans and siblings who have lost loved ones to terror and other tragedies to rebuild their lives and create meaning out of suffering; providing chickens to the needy; a news agency which provides accurate information; aid for Israeli expellees from Gush Katif (in Gaza) who are still suffering; funds for purchasing land; security; medical organizations; humanitarian needs of soldiers; rabbinic training; and meals for the elderly in need. The Posse Comitatus Presidency: Trump’s Standing Army On American Streets By John & Nisha Whitehead Aug 20, 2026 The National Guard Was Just The Beginning. One year after President Trump deployed military troops to the nation’s capital, we find ourselves navigating a posse comitatus presidency in which the visual trappings of martial law are the norm, not the exception. When Trump declared a supposed “crime emergency” in Washington, D.C., called in the National Guard, unleashed federal law enforcement throughout the city and temporarily seized control of the Metropolitan Police Department, we warned that the police state had found a new playbook: martial law, one city at a time. The emergency is long over. The troops never left. Now the Pentagon says the National Guard deployment can remain in Washington until January 20, 2029—the final day of Trump’s presidency—unless Trump himself decides to terminate it sooner. That is not an emergency response. That is a standing military presence. The government expects American taxpayers to spend another $1.4 Billion maintaining it. What began in August 2025 as an extraordinary response to a supposedly “extraordinary” crime crisis has become part of the architecture of everyday government. Thousands of military personnel have remained deployed in the capital. Armed Guard members patrol streets, Metro stations, parks and tourist attractions. They have supported arrest operations. They have responded to medical calls. They have shoveled snow. They have removed trash and weeds and participated in “beautification” projects. During the nation’s 250th Anniversary celebrations, their numbers swelled to roughly 5,000. Now the Trump administration is making plans to build “apartment-style lodging units” for the troops stationed in DC at a cost of $292 Million to the taxpayer. That is in addition to the $1 Billion Trump wants for White House security upgrades, including a new ballroom topped by a proposed “droneport” that he has envisioned as a rooftop staging ground for military trucks, personnel and battlefield weaponry. The symbolism is hard to miss. This is how emergency power grabs become entrenched and permanent. We do not have to speculate about where this leads. We have already begun to see it. When Trump federalized California National Guard troops and deployed Marines to Los Angeles during protests against immigration raids in 2025, a federal judge subsequently ruled that the administration had violated the Posse Comitatus Act by using military personnel to carry out civilian law-enforcement functions. In his ruling, U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer warned that the administration appeared intent on creating something the Constitution was never meant to tolerate: a national police force with the president effectively serving as its chief. That description increasingly fits the Trump presidency. Trump is not merely claiming authority as commander-in-chief over America’s military. He is increasingly behaving as though being commander-in-chief makes him commander-in-chief of the American people. It is a profound, constitutional difference. A president governs citizens. A commander commands troops. A police chief directs law enforcement. A king commands subjects. The danger begins when one man starts behaving as though all four offices belong to him. Trump has increasingly embraced his own digital version of that authoritarian theater. Just days ago, he circulated an AI-generated image depicting himself in an elaborate military uniform alongside Generals George S. Patton and Douglas MacArthur, laden with decorations and medals he never earned for military service he never performed. It would be tempting to dismiss such images as narcissistic internet trolling. That would be a mistake. This is how Trump sees presidential power: as authoritarian power backed by military force. The National Guard deployment in Washington is the physical embodiment of that worldview. Armed soldiers are stationed around the monuments. They guard the perimeter of the Reflecting Pool. They patrol the National Mall. They appear at Metro stations, tourist sites and public parks. Their presence is no longer presented as extraordinary. That is precisely the problem. A free people should never become accustomed to soldiers policing their streets. Once that sight becomes ordinary, the constitutional barrier separating military power from civilian government has already begun to collapse. And Washington is the ideal laboratory as a testing ground. What can be normalized in the capital today can be demanded elsewhere tomorrow. Indeed, we have already seen repeated attempts to expand the model beyond Washington: federalized National Guard troops in Los Angeles, attempted Guard deployments elsewhere, federal agents sent into cities, immigration enforcement increasingly carried out with military equipment and rhetoric, and presidential threats to “liberate” jurisdictions whose elected leaders resist federal policy. Not every deployment has survived judicial scrutiny. That is encouraging, but the real danger is larger than whether any particular deployment is eventually blocked by a court. The danger is that the country is being conditioned to accept the premise behind all of them: that whenever the president declares a city dangerous, disorderly, disobedient or insufficiently cooperative, military force is an appropriate instrument of domestic government. That premise should frighten conservatives and liberals alike. This is not fundamentally a question of whether you trust Donald Trump. It is whether you trust any president with a standing military force at his disposal for domestic political purposes. The Constitution was not written on the assumption that good people would always hold power. It was written because power attracts abuse. Every authority surrendered to Trump becomes an authority available to his successors. Every emergency power normalized now becomes part of the presidential toolbox later. Every constitutional boundary ignored because the “right” president is violating it becomes one less boundary available when the “wrong” president takes office. This is how republics lose their safeguards: One deployment. One emergency. One executive order. One city. One exception at a time. As we have warned repeatedly in Battlefield America: The War on the American People and its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, that is how constitutional lines disappear—not because someone formally erases them, but because enough people stop noticing when they are crossed. The Founders feared standing armies because they understood that military power and political liberty exist in constant tension. The Posse Comitatus Act reflects that same hard-earned wisdom. Soldiers defend the country. Police enforce the law. Presidents execute the laws within constitutional limits. Citizens are not troops. Cities are not battlefields. Political opponents are not enemy combatants. And the president is not the American people’s commander-in-chief. He is commander-in-chief of the armed forces. That distinction may be one of the few things standing between a constitutional republic and a police state presidency. We had better remember it before the exception becomes the rule—and the troops never go home. Charter Review Commission: Hallandale Beach Will Review The Welfare And The Safety Of The City By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper January 27, 2022 Share The Hallandale Beach City Charter provides that a Charter Review Commission must be convened every eight years. The Charter Review Committee is made up of seven members and one alternate that are appointed by the City Commission. The Mayor and The Vice Mayor have two appointments. There are no special qualifications to be on the Charter Review Committee other than a member must be a resident of Hallandale Beach. You can also serve on this board, even if you are on other boards in the City. The duties are to study the existing charter to improve it and provide Preservation Of General Health, Welfare And The Safety Of The City. The Committee is required to conduct meetings for a six-month period and provide recommendations to the City Commission. The Committee had started its work, but due to COVID-19 the Committee had been delayed. The meetings of this committee are facilitated by Staff. In the past, we had funded a special council to work with the CRC. Past recommendations included the reorganization of how the Charter Sections are presented, updating of the legal description of the City, a requirement that recommendations by the CRB, be automatically put referendum by a supermajority vote of the Charter Review Board, the directly elected Mayor, the appointment and rotation of the Vice Mayor every two years, Residential Districting, this is where a Commission Candidate must live in a District and is voted on by the entire City, Election Schedules should remain staggered every two years, Salary Increases for the Commission should not take effect until after the next Regular Election and Salary Increases must be capped at the percentage increase of CPI, an Amendment to provide that appointments to a vacancy can be made up to 12 months before the next Election Cycle, rather than conducting a Special Election, Commissioners that miss three consecutive months of meetings would be automatically removed from the Commission, Term Limits, Flexibility and the Reorganization of Departments by not requiring an Ordinance but only at Commission Approval and the ability for the City Manager to expand Franchise Agreements as such. Not all recommendations make it to the ballot. Some recommendations pass, others fail. The ones that were not included on Past Ballots include: Salary Caps, Residential Districts, Term Limits and Automatic placement of recommendations on the Ballot. These changes will allow the City Manager to Establish, Alter or Abolish City Departments and The Ability to Extend Franchises without an ordinance proposal that was turned down by the electors. It should be noted that a few years ago upon my request, the City Commission adopted an Ordinance in regard to Salary Increases. The Ordinance provides that Salaries follow General Employees automatically and any changes must be requested and placed as agenda items only during the budget. The City has already posted notices asking for volunteers for this important Committee and there is still one Vacancy. The City Commission has targeted the April 6th, 2022 Commission Meeting to make appointments and select a facilitator. Applications can be found by going to the Department Tab and scroll down to the City Clerk’s Section. To date, the CRC have discussed this regarding the City Clerk Position. The City Manager is recommending that this position be hired by the Commission. He has a concern that in the past, the City Manager was interfering with the disclosures of certain information. While the City Manager believes that this will remove undue influence, the same could very well happen again, even if the position is hired by the Commission. There are different models for the City Clerk, so certainly this may be changed. Items that were not agreed to date are the changing of an Elected Mayor Position. The Elected Mayor was put on the Ballot and was passed overwhelmingly. Changing it back in my opinion and the super majority of the CRC agree this would be regressive and not keep with good government practices. Another item that was discussed was changing how Commissioners are elected back to the old top two vote receivers rather than individual seats. Currently, a Commissioner may not draw a challenger so they would not have to run. This change was not recommended. Residential Districting will be discussed again. This is where a Candidate must live in a geographical area in the City, but is elected by every voter in the City. I personally believe that this is a good model, as it ensures that a city has broader diversity due to different neighborhoods. Our City has Condos in the East and also has Single-Family Homes in the West. Each has unique issues and needs. If the Commission agrees on the CRC’s Recommendations, they will be put on the November 2022 Election Ballot. Understanding Feline Diabetes Mellitus: Causes, Diagnosis, And Management South Florida Sun Times Aug 6, 2026 When A Cat Starts Emptying Their Water Bowl Faster Than Usual Or Making More Frequent Trips To The Litter Box, Owners May Chalk It Up To Aging. But Subtle Changes In Thirst, Appetite, And Weight Can Be Early Warning Signs Of Feline Diabetes. While Diabetes Mellitus (DM) — a condition where the body does not handle Blood Sugar correctly — was once thought of primarily as a human health concern, it is becoming increasingly common in cats, who, like humans, may require lifelong medical care to manage their condition. As such, it is important to diagnose DM early so that it does not progress into Ketoacidosis (DKA) or other health complications, according to Dr. Andrew Bugbee, a Clinical Associate Professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Because prevention, early recognition, and timely diagnosis are critical for cats’ long-term health, Bugbee explains how Feline Diabetes can be identified and managed. Recognizing Feline Diabetes Similar to Type 2 Diabetes in humans, Feline DM occurs when a cat either does not produce enough Insulin or its body does not respond properly to the Insulin it does produce. As a result, Blood Sugar remains too high instead of being used by the body' s cells for energy. “Excess body weight or Obesity is the highest risk factor for development of DM,” Bugbee said. “Overweight cats have four times the risk to develop DM than a healthy weight cat.” Even with this elevated risk, the earliest signs of Feline Diabetes are often easy for owners to miss, with the most common signs including: • Unexplained weight loss • A dry or lusterless haircoat • Increased appetite • Increased thirst • Increased urination frequency “Owners often overlook slow, mild changes in drinking and urination,” Bugbee said. “They usually do not recognize a problem until they notice accidents outside the litter box or water bowls and litter boxes needing frequent refills or cleanings.” Recurring infections — including skin, ear, or urinary tract infections — may also suggest a condition like DM is present. “Some cats develop a neurologic condition called Diabetic Neuropathy in their back legs,” Bugbee said. “They appear to walk abnormally, with their weight on their ankles — known as dropped hocks — as opposed to just on the paw pads. This posture may not be obvious to pet owners at home; however, owners may notice that their cat is no longer able to jump onto things and/or may have difficulty using stairs.” Signs of DM may develop slowly and, as a result, may not be obvious to pet owners; however, cats who are in the early stages of developing Diabetes may be detected during routine health visits or annual exams, emphasizing the importance of regular veterinary evaluations. How Diabetes Is Diagnosed If a veterinarian suspects DM based on clinical signs and physical exam findings, a diagnosis is confirmed through blood work and urine testing. “After a cat is diagnosed with Diabetes, it is important to screen for any other health conditions that may cause Insulin Resistance and interfere with a cat’s response to treatment,” Bugbee said. Factors such as genetics, medications, or preexisting diseases can disrupt Insulin regulation. Because High Blood Sugar (Hyperglycemia) and loss of Glucose in the urine can occur in stressed, healthy cats (where DM is not present), confirmatory testing — such as Serum Fructosamine or HbA1c Concentration — are conducted by the veterinarian to diagnose DM, Bugbee said. These simple blood tests are used to prove the cat has persistent High Blood Sugar levels, even when in a non-stressed environment, like their home. “Once a veterinarian confirms a DM diagnosis, treatment is started and, often, there is discussion on ways to reverse any other specific factors that could negatively impact the cat’s ability to respond effectively to therapy,” Bugbee said. Treating Feline Diabetes Several medication options are available to lower Blood Glucose in cats diagnosed with DM. Insulin remains the most common treatment for Feline Diabetes and is typically given once or twice a day, based on a veterinarian’s recommendation. “A new drug class of Oral Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter 2 (SLGT2) Inhibitors — Bexacat (oral tablet) and Senvelgo (oral solution) — was approved as an alternative to Insulin injections for DM management,” Bugbee said. According to Bugbee, these drugs work by preventing the kidneys from reabsorbing Glucose back into the body, allowing excess Glucose to be excreted in the urine. Cats that may be candidates for these medications are: • Newly diagnosed with DM • Have not been treated with Insulin for a prolonged time • Otherwise healthy, without evidence of significant organ dysfunction • Little to no Blood Ketones “Monitoring a cat’s response to treatment and Blood Glucose levels helps determine the appropriate dose and keep the Diabetes under control over time,” Bugbee said. “Not all cats respond well to therapy and many require periodic changes to their drug dose and/or need to transition to another treatment if not responding well.” Veterinarians often rely both on the pet owner's interpretation of how well- or poorly controlled their pet's Diabetic clinical signs are at home and on other tools (such as changes in body weight, Blood Glucose curves, Serum Fructosamine, and/or Blood Ketone concentrations) to guide treatment changes and maintain appropriate control of the cat's DM. Advice for Owners Regular veterinary appointments are critical for ensuring cats remain healthy and to minimize risk of complications, such as low Blood Sugar or a progression into Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious complication that often requires hospitalization and intensive care to resolve. “The longer DM is present without treatment, the higher the risk for severe complications to develop,” Bugbee said. “Cats that have just been diagnosed with DM, achieve an ideal body weight, and have their Blood Glucose rapidly controlled with treatment have the highest chance of entering what is called Diabetic Remission. Remission means a cat regains the ability to make enough Insulin on its own that it can come off of treatments, like Insulin or SGLT2 Inhibitors.” Remission usually occurs in newly diagnosed Diabetic cats within one to 10 months of diagnosis. “Reported rates of remission in the United States are around 30%, so around 1 in 3 newly Diabetic cats may be able to come off of their DM medication,” Bugbee said. Cats who develop Diabetes can live comfortably with their condition for the rest of their lives, and for some, remission is possible. But prevention is key — dietary therapy, addressing Obesity, calorie restriction, and exercise are the best proactive ways to ensure your cat lives a happy, healthy life, free of the risk of DM.
