- ‘Following the Science,’ or the COVID Narrative?
‘Following the Science,’ or the COVID Narrative? January 5, 2022 Share Doctors may like to imagine that we have godlike powers, but in fact we can never know what would’ve happened had we done something different. Science has undergone a radical metamorphosis. People with M.D. or Ph.D. degrees, who have published hundreds of papers in the scientific literature, have suddenly become “anti-science”—as judged by media personalities, politicians, bureaucrats, and fact-checkers. What does this mean? One clue: chief White House medical advisor Anthony Fauci, M.D, said that anyone who attacked him was attacking “science.” Anyone skeptical of the accepted COVID narrative may be called “anti-science.” The articles of faith are that it is an existential threat, and the only solution is universal vaccination and surrender of our freedom to work, assemble, worship, travel, or even go outdoors without the approval of public health authorities. One key feature of science that we should’ve learned in grade school seems to have been forgotten, albeit selectively: experiments need to have a control group. Ancient or medieval physicians may have said that bleeding and purging cured disease. The only time these cures didn’t work was when the patient was too far gone to be saved. The science was settled; no control group needed. Doctors may like to imagine that we have godlike powers, but in fact we can never know what would’ve happened had we done something different. That’s the reason why studies of treatment must have a control group. The “gold standard” is a double-blind randomized controlled study (RCT) to correct for observer bias and the placebo effect. Giving a fake medicine (placebo) sometimes helps. Any experiment can have two types of error. Type I error “finds” a difference between the treatment and control group just because of random variation. A type II error fails to find a sufficiently large difference to reach “statistical significance” even though one exists. Studies need to be adequately “powered”—have an adequate number of subjects—to minimize type II error. A power of less than 80 percent is generally considered unacceptable. A study that is too small is called “underpowered.” Ideally, there should be a 50:50 allocation of treated and control subjects. If only 30 percent of subjects are in the control group, the study loses significant power. If only 10 percent are in the control group, the power of the study is only 40 to 60 percent, writes Mark H. White, II, Ph.D. At the moment, about 30 percent of Americans have not taken the COVID vaccine. And government keeps trying to reduce that percentage to as close to zero as possible. There was a 50:50 allocation in the preauthorization studies of the COVID vaccines. But the blinding has been broken, and those who received placebo are now eligible to receive active vaccine. Thus, there is virtually NO control group for potential late adverse consequences. A large number of adverse effects are being reported to the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS), including nearly 20,000 deaths as of Dec 10, vastly more than for all other vaccines combined. Reporting is far from complete. The actual number may be 20 to 41 times higher. As revealed by Project Veritas, reporting may be actively discouraged. Did the vaccine cause these problems? We have no RCT that specifically looked for them, and a potential control group of only about 30 percent at present. The best we can do is look at “historical controls,” the reported past incidence of conditions such as myocarditis. Within 8 weeks of the public offering of COVID-19 products to 12-to-15 year-olds, the rate of myocarditis cases was 19 times the historically expected number. Diseases vary over time for many reasons, and historical controls have many pitfalls. The historical natural history of the disease was nonetheless good enough for Anthony Fauci in his landmark 1973 research on Wegener’s granulomatosis in 18 (eighteen) patients. Knowledge of the historical progression of AIDS was, however, NOT good enough for Dr. Fauci to inform physicians of the possibility of using common sulfa drugs to prevent pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), based on past research. He demanded, but would not fund, an RCT. By the time a privately funded study was complete, 17,000 AIDS patients had died of PCP without the potential benefit of prophylaxis. The NIH is again following the model of therapeutic nihilism for COVID, suppressing promising treatments on the basis that hundreds of favorable published studies including some RCTs are inadequate. Vaccines, however, are exempt from the demand for scientific rigor. The Biden Administration is calling for all Americans to get vaccinated and boosted, and has pledged to donate 500 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech product to low and lower-middle-income countries and the African Union. The worldwide, coercive mass vaccination campaign is not a scientific experiment. In addition to a control group, ethical research would require voluntary informed consent, free medical care of subjects who experienced complications, provision to stop the experiment if it is doing harm, and an Institutional Review Board. Where is the science, and where is the anti-science? About Jane M. Orient, M.D. obtained her undergraduate degrees in chemistry and mathematics from the University of Arizona in Tucson, and her M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1974. She completed an internal medicine residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital and University of Arizona Affiliated Hospitals and then became an Instructor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and a staff physician at the Tucson Veterans Administration Hospital. She has been in solo private practice since 1981 and has served as Executive Director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) since 1989. Dr. Orient is currently president of Doctors for Disaster Preparedness. She is the author of YOUR Doctor Is Not In: Healthy Skepticism about National Healthcare, and the second through fifth editions of Sapira's Art and Science of Bedside Diagnosis published by Wolters Kluwer. More than 100 of her papers have been published in the scientific and popular literature on a variety of subjects including risk assessment, natural and technological hazards and nonhazards, and medical economics and ethics. She is the editor of AAPS News, the Doctors for Disaster Preparedness Newsletter, and Civil Defense Perspectives, and is the managing editor of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons. < Previous News Next News >

About The Museum The Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts was founded in Dania Beach, Florida in 2014 by Arthur Wiener and family. The museum celebrates the fired arts of ceramics and glass, visitors can see beautiful pottery and porcelain art from the 18th century to the present day. The Wiener Museum introduces the work of British pottery pioneers, such as Josiah Wedgwood and Sir Henry Doulton, as well as European designers from the eras of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The glass galleries at the Wiener Museum showcase the art of French designer Renée Lalique and Venetian maestros from Murano, as well as local glass artists working in South Florida. The highlight of the Hot Glass Gallery is a spectacular collection by Chihuly. Contemporary Ceramic Art from the Ardmore Studio in South Africa, which is one of the favorite exhibits at the Wiener Museum, hosting a varied program of exhibitions and cultural events. Arthur Wiener - Founder & Benefactor Arthur Wiener acquired his first piece of pottery in 1965 when he traveled to London, as a young college graduate, armed with Frommer’s Seminal Guidebook Europe for $5 a day. He blew his daily budget on a Royal Doulton character jug of Merlin the magician, which caught his eye in a china shop window because of the Star of David image on the handle. Merlin certainly cast a spell on Arthur as he went on to become an avid collector of Royal Doulton figures and character jugs. In the early years, Arthur scoured antique shows where he met specialist Royal Doulton dealers, including Ed Pascoe and Arron Rimpley, who have helped him build his collection. Arron has worked with Arthur for over 25 years and facilitated the museum opening at his Gallery of Amazing Things. In addition to his vast collection of Royal Doulton figures and character jugs, Arthur became fascinated with the art pottery produced at Doulton’s Victorian Studios in Lambeth, London and Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, including impressive exhibition pieces for the World Fairs of the 19th and the 20th centuries. The largest piece in the collection is a colossal 6 foot tall Doulton Faience Vase, commissioned by the Gaekwar of Baroda. Arthur then began acquiring ceramic art from the British Arts & Crafts Movement and exploring European design from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. Arthur’s collection comes right up to date with contemporary ceramic art from the Ardmore Studio in South Africa, he is very happy that his acquisitions have helped uplift this remote and rural community. In recent years, Arthur has become passionate about American Studio Glass, notably the work of Dale Chihuly and the Hot Glass Gallery at WMODA, which boasts a spectacular forest of Chihuly’s Macchia and Ikebana designs, alongside his Persian and Venetian forms. In 2014, with his home and storerooms overflowing with his treasures, Arthur decided to open the Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts to share his love of ceramics and glass with a wide audience. His remarkable legacy has created a unique educational and cultural resource in South Florida, an important new study center for British and European ceramics and American studio glass. “I want to share my love for the fired arts and leave a legacy to educate and inspire future generations about the importance of art in our lives and culture,” said Arthur Wiener. < Previous News Next News >
- COVID Strikes Again: In My Line of Work, I See What I See
COVID Strikes Again: In My Line of Work, I See What I See Tracy Renee Lee September 30, 2021 Share “It appears to me that people who live a healthy active life survive COVID more often than those who do not” Tracy Renee Lee I am not a doctor, but I see from a unique angle, the fallout from the COVID Pandemic. COVID-19 has been a beast of an illness for some. For others, not so much. As a funeral director, I see the uptick and decline in deaths in a real-time situation, especially in the area in which I live. I understand that people are afraid of the vaccine. It remains unproven and without a history. I also understand that people hate wearing masks. I feel very fortunate. I live in Texas where mask mandates are not in effect. I battle with all of the crazy COVID mandates. Who knows from morning until evening what will change and what won’t? Lately, I have seen an uptick in cases. Last year, cases crested in October and began to fall again in November. Rather than continue to climb, I hope death tolls will fall again as they did last year. I also see a difference in the condition of descendants from 2020 to 2021. Physically, their appearance is nearer to their natural look. Last year, we found that descendants sported a little extra weight while living. This year, we find that weight seems to be a present condition, however, there seem to be other contributing factors as well. Perhaps pre-existing conditions seem to play a more prevalent role in ushering in death this year because of the variant. Because of this, death seems to happen more quickly. Perhaps that is the reason descendants do not look as ravaged upon death this time around. As for me and my family, we are adopting the following practices to help guard against contamination. We do not wear masks because we believe in cellular immunity. We sanitize and clean everything anyone touches, including ourselves. We are impeccable about personal cleanliness. The other thing we do is eat healthy food, take a full gamut of vitamins and minerals, watch our weight, get plenty of rest, and exercise our hearts. In short, we practice the health routines that were established for us as children. I am not a doctor. I do not have any health or medical training. I do not offer this information as medical advice. However, in my line of work, I see what I see and it appears to me that people who live a healthy active life survive COVID more often than those who do not. Because of this observation, my family and I have moved to a healthier lifestyle. I hope you will too. My name is Tracy Renee Lee. I am a Certified Grief Counselor (GC-C), Funeral Director (FDIC), published author, syndicated columnist, Podcaster, and founder of the “Mikey Joe Children’s Memorial” and Heaven Sent, Corp. I write books, weekly bereavement articles, Podcasts, and Grief BRIEFs related to understanding and coping with grief. I am the American Funeral Director of the Year Runner-Up and recipient of the BBB’s Integrity Award. It is my life's work to comfort the bereaved and help them live on. - El Chinito Latino Bar: Craft Cocktails And Asian-Latino Fusion Cuisine
El Chinito Latino Bar: Craft Cocktails And Asian-Latino Fusion Cuisine February 3, 2023 Share Located in the heart of Miami, Wynwood is the most eclectic neighborhood in the city and home to various popular nightlife locations— soon to include El Chinito Latino Bar, the newest addition to the Wynwood scene. El Chinito, whose doors will be opening in February, presents a new intimate bar that combines Latin and Asian cultures to create a unique environment for guests. Boasting the fresh tastes of their craft cocktails and fusion cuisine, this new venue plans to be a hotspot for locals and visitors alike. El Chinito will dive into an eclectic fountain of cultures—made up of influences from the diverse Asian diasporas of Latin America. The outcome is a celebration of the ardent spirit of fun where visitors will experience two full bars and a statement DJ booth decorated to resemble the Chinese “bodega” mini-marts that fill the streets of Latin American Chinatown neighborhoods. The drink selection spans everything from cocktails and beers to full liquor bottle service. Outside, a patio lounge will roar to the cool sounds of Latin house, salsa funk, and popular Latin tunes unique to the Wynwood area, encouraging patrons to dance the night away. The surprising cocktail offerings feature extraordinary flavors that perfectly integrate the two cultures and their several variations. El Chinito’s innovative concept is brought by The Dirty Rabbit Group, a Miami-based hospitality group known for successfully combining exceptional dining, entertainment, and art in all their nightlife and culinary venues since 2017. Operating many bars, nightclubs, and restaurants already in the area, El Chinito’s addition allows The Dirty Rabbit Group to expand its presence within the Wynwood nightlife scene, incorporating yet another staple to the area. “Our objective in opening El Chinito Latino Bar is to give Miami a cool new place to unwind and party with a theme that celebrates the Asian-Latino culture and is both unique and nostalgic for our patrons,” says Luis Ginestra, CEO of The Dirty Rabbit Group. “The vibrant nightlife and mixture of crowds make the Wynwood art district the ideal neighborhood to bring El Chinito Latino Bar to life.” At first glance, patrons will be greeted by a large blue elephant, signifying strength, good fortune, and harmony in Asian cultures. The venue brings the Miami feel featuring contemporary décor, walls adorned with framed pop art, lush greenery on the patio and state-of-the-art light and sound fixtures that are meant to elevate the bar experience. Additionally, guests will spot a few fun tributes to the character namesake "El Chinito" meaning little Chinese boy in Spanish slang. The stars of the show are the hand-crafted cocktails by Colombian mixologist, Vanessa Serrano who has worked in the industry for over 10 years applying her passion in discovering new blends, fruits, and herbs to the innovation of cocktail creation. The Passionsita combines tropical passion fruit, with lychee liqueur, vodka, vanilla, basil & simple syrup for a sweet and refreshing drink. Another favorite is What a Fortune Cookie—a unique twist on the classic Carajillo made with vodka, Licor 43, cream, coffee, and simple syrup. Also offered are crowd-pleasers like the OaxaKitty - a mezcal based drink with guava, lime, yuzu, and simple syrup garnished with fresh pineapple and spices, served in a Maneki-Neko cat cup, a Japanese figurine which depicts a Bobtail cat with its paw raised in a beckoning gesture and is believed to bring good luck to its owner. Visitors looking to turn their night up to the next level can opt for liquor bottle service complete with an over-the-top bottle presentation parade that is sure to turn heads. Those looking to pair their drinks with a bit of food will be pleasantly surprised by El Chinito’s gastronomic offerings, created by Executive Chef Nicolas Caicedo, who has worked with The Dirty Rabbit Group since 2019. Caicedo’s focus for El Chinito is to curate a menu of shareable tapas. Some unique must-try plates will be the Ropa Vieja Fried Rice, which combines the Chinese staple and popular Cuban dish with hogao, roasted corn, avocado, and topped with spicy mayo and a “sunny” fried egg; Chicken Al Pastor Bao Buns, a Mexican take on the popular Chinese dish where the interior is made up of crispy chicken, pineapple, green cabbage, and cilantro. Caicedo will also offer an innovative spin on fan-favorite Latin desserts like Churros con Lychee and Yuzu Panna Cotta. Less adventurous diners can find comfort in Chinese classics like spring rolls, fried rice, and sweet & sour or orange chicken. El Chinito Latino Bar is set to be located at 223 Northwest 23rd Street, Miami, Florida 33127. The bar will be open for drinks and tapas Thursday and Sunday from 4:00 pm to 2:00 am. Friday and Saturday patrons are welcome to stay an hour longer as the hours adjust from 4:00 pm to 3:00 am. - The Beloved Musical Comes To South Florida
The Beloved Musical Comes To South Florida April 4, 2024 Share Hello Dolly! one of the most beloved musicals in Broadway history, will close out the 2024 Broadway at LPAC Season. The production, which will star three-time Carbonell Award-Winning Actress Angie Radosh as the irrepressible Dolly Gallagher Levi, will run from April 4th through April 21st at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center. “I am absolutely thrilled and humbled at the idea of doing this role…it has been on my bucket list for a long time,” Radosh says. “Every actor has their bucket list and as the years go by, the list gets shorter and roles pass us by. When I first read The Matchmaker so many years ago, I fell in love with the character of Dolly Levi and then, seeing Carol Channing in Hello Dolly! …well, that really made me appreciate the character even more….and here I am getting ready to finally bring this wonderful woman to life!!” Hello, Dolly! is based on Thornton Wilder’s 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, which Wilder revised and retitled The Matchmaker in 1954. The musical, with lyrics and music by Jerry Herman, and book by Michael Stewart, follows the romantic and comic exploits of Dolly Gallagher Levi, turn-of-the century matchmaker and ‘woman who arranges things’, as she travels to Yonkers, New York to find a match for the ‘well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire’ Horace Vandergelder. Hello, Dolly! premiered on Broadway on January 16th, 1964, at the St. James Theatre. Opening with Carol Channing in the title role, the show ultimately ran for 2,844 performances, making it – at the time – the longest-running Broadway musical in history. Among its many awards, Dolly garnered 10 1964 Tonys (including Best Musical, Author, and Composer/Lyricist) and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. Michael Ursua will do double duty as the show’s Director and Music Director, and Alex Jorth will serve as the production’s choreographer. Hello Dolly! is produced by Kevin Barrett and Arts Center Management. “Hello Dolly! happens to be one of my all-time favorite musicals and its composer and lyricist, Jerry Herman, remains my favorite composer,” Ursua says. It is an absolute classic in musical theater. The characters are loveable, and the audience can identify with their desire for romance and adventure. They bravely choose to step out of their comfort zones for love and yes, for money (which is really just a way to live generously of course). And Dolly helps each of them find their way and find each other. In the end it is the community that is the prize. I am encouraged by these characters … encouraged to be brave, to love more, to be more generous and to dance whenever, however, with whomever I can.” Ursua has assembled a stellar cast to populate Dolly’s 1898 New York setting – along with Radosh, Christopher Dreeson will star as Horace Vandergelder, with Sam Joseph as Cornelius Hackl, Ally Rosenblum (Star of LPAC’s 2023 production of Always…Patsy Cline) as Irene Molloy, Kristi Rose Mills as Minnie Fay, Joel Hunt as Barnaby Tucker, Erica Kaylee as Ermengarde, Dru Loman as Ambrose Kemper, Britte Steele as Ernestina, and Lovell Rose as Rudolph. Ensemble members are Bryce Bayer, Nia Bourne, Kalista Curbelo, Eytan Deray, Alexandra Dow, Desir Dumerjuste, Stephen Eisenwasser, Eli Flynn, Santiago Garza, Amanda Lopez, Michael Materdomini, Izaiah Scott, Caroline Slagle, Larry Toyter, Alexandra Van Hasselt, and Herbert Welch. Tickets for Hello Dolly! are on sale now and can be purchased online at: https://www.lpacfl.com . Or by calling the LPAC box office at: (954) 777-2055. Tickets range in price from $45 to $65.
