  • Cannabis Straight Talk from Miracle Leaf

Cannabis Straight Talk from Miracle Leaf PROFILES April 24, 2022 Share The annual National Cannabis Day, which is observed on, April 20 has just passed and Geo Tejada of the Miracle Leaf Cannabis Health Center in Hallandale Beach seeks to set the record straight on his products. “There’s a lot of confusion about Cannabis,” he says. “People want to know why they should consider the use of Cannabis. Where can they buy these products? Is Cannabis legal in Florida? Do people need a license to buy it? How can Cannabis products be used?” Tejada explains that Cannabis products come from the Cannabis Sativa Plant, a widely cultivated crop around the world. “It exists in multiple varieties,” he says. THC Vs. CBD Some varieties of Cannabis have Psychoactive Properties that produce a euphoric reaction. They contain a relatively high concentration of a substance called Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The common name for such varieties is Marijuana. Florida Law allows the use of “Medical Marijuana” that is high in THC for certain qualifying conditions, including: Cancer, Crohn’s Disease, Epilepsy, Glaucoma, HIV-AIDS, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Patients must obtain a Medical Marijuana Card and a recommendation from a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine who have taken a course and passed an exam to receive certification as a Marijuana Physician. Upon being approved, patients join a registry and receive a Medical Marijuana Card. Then they may purchase their recommended THC Products from a Dispensary Licensed by the State. “Today,” Tejada says, “over 500,000 patients are registered in Florida.” The rules are different for other varieties of Cannabis, known as Hemp, that contain only trace amounts of THC. During World War II, the U.S. Government used Hemp to make canvas, rope and uniforms. Today it is a source of products as diverse as biofuel, cement, cosmetics, clothing, insulation, paper and textiles. “Hemp became a Federally Approved Crop under the 2018 Farm Bill and all of our products are Hemp-Based,” Tejada says. “Their primary substance, Cannabidiol (CBD), lacks euphoric properties but still can alleviate symptoms of anxiety, pain and stress associated with a variety of medical conditions. “You don’t need a Medical Marijuana Card and a Recommendation to buy the products we sell at Health Centers such as Miracle Leaf,” he emphasizes. To Smoke Or Not The discussion of Cannabis typically revolves around smoking the flowers, but that’s not the only way to use Cannabis Products. Hemp-Based CBD Products in particular have blossomed (pun intended) in recent years, offering a wide variety of consumption alternatives. Tejada lists Sublingual Tinctures (drops of liquid under the tongue), “Vapes” for inhalation, Edible Gummies and Topical Pain-relief Creams that are popular with the elderly. Cannabis also is a major ingredient in Alice B. Toklas’ Brownies. Alice was the life-mate of Author Gertrude Stein, who reigned over the Parisian Literary Scene between the two World Wars. Google “Alice B. Toklas’ Brownies” to find thousands of entries about this confection. If you make these brownies with Marijuana, limit consumption and beware of the unintended side effects. Hemp is kinder and gentler in this regard. Tejada says his Miracle Leaf store in Hallandale Beach has over 2,000 regular customers. Some are Tobacco smokers who view Miracle Leaf’s CBD Products as a desirable alternative, while others use CBD Products while waiting for their medical Marijuana Cards and Recommendations. “We’re not a Medical Marijuana Dispensary,” he emphasizes, “but we do have Certified Marijuana Physicians on staff to provide assistance to people who come in with specific medical needs. “Most of our customers are older than 45. Cannabis is not just for the young. The elderly have been able to connect with the use of Cannabis. We can’t make medical claims for a cure, but we have been able to help many patients with medical conditions to alleviate their symptoms.” For Fido and Tabby Many pet owners give CBD Products to their dogs and cats, Tejada says. Signs your Canine and Feline friends may benefit from CBD include Arthritis and other Inflammatory Ailments, Chronic Pain, Digestive Tract Upsets, Kidney and Liver Ailments, Separation Anxiety when you leave home and the fear of thunder and other loud noises. Also, while it’s not a cure, CBD may prolong and improve the quality of life for elderly Dogs and Cats with Cancer and other Terminal Conditions. CBD Products sold specifically for Pets include Capsules and Chews, Peanut Butter, Tinctures, Treats and Topical Preparations such as shampoos and balms. Resist the temptation to give your Pets the same products you use, Tejada advises. Look for products specifically formulated and lab tested for Pets and Organically Sourced, which mean they come from Pesticide-FREE Hemp Plants. Dosage depends on your Pet’s size, weight and individual body chemistry. While product packaging and your Veterinarian may offer guidelines, every Pet is different, so start slowly and work up to an Optimal Dosage. National Cannabis Day National Cannabis Day originated with five California high school students who met at 4:20 p.m. on April 20th, 1971, to smoke Marijuana. Today it’s an International Counter-Culture Holiday and an opportunity for the Cannabis Industry to showcase its products and services. “The Industry gives back to the community with big promotions and sales,” Tejada says, adding that Miracle Leaf always participates in the observance in a big way. Soon, South Floridians Will Come To Understand Bakey Fans’ Rapturous Mania And Come To Experience Firsthand The Utterly Delicious Creations Of The One-And-Only Chef, Master Baker And Cookbook Author Uri Scheft. Opening To The Public On Tuesday, July 14th, 2026 Bakey Will Serve All-Day Breakfast, Lunch, Freshly Rendered Baked Goods, Especially Its Famous Chocolate Babka (Also In A Multitude Of Flavors), Sourdough Breads, Rolls, Challah, Cakes, Burekas, Croissants, Premium Coffee, Salads, Sandwiches And More. Housed in the former Kosher Bagel Cove space, the first South Florida Bakey (with two more already in the works) will offer a warm, inviting space where guests can stop in for a quick coffee and pastry; grab a freshly-made salad, sandwich, snack for later or sit and linger over freshly baked pastries, delicious breakfast plates and expertly crafted coffee in a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere. In keeping with the space’s history, this Bakey location will also be Kosher. First launched in Massachusetts in 2021, Bakey comes from legendary baker and culinary craftsman Chef Uri Scheft, internationally recognized for elevating babka from a traditional Eastern European pastry into a modern culinary menu staple. Also known as the Founder of Lehamim Bakery in Tel Aviv, Scheft, who was raised in Israel and Denmark, spent decades refining his craft through training and extensive travels throughout Europe, where he immersed himself in classical baking and patisserie techniques. Scheft then returned to Israel and launched his own acclaimed concept, Lehamim Bakery (“breads” in Hebrew). He later brought his vision to New York City, where he Co-Founded Breads Bakery, helping establish it as a renowned Manhattan institution. His distinctive approach earned national recognition, including appearances on Martha Stewart's television program, and culminated in the publication of his James Beard-nominated cookbook, Breaking Breads. Scheft now continues to shape the future of babka and baking through the Bakey concept with five – soon to be seven – locations in Boston and the first of several in South Florida in partnership with fellow bakery industry scion Amir Vadash. Vadash is a generational baker himself; his family owned and operated Vadash Bakery for more than 60 years in Israel. Everything at Bakey is made in-house with fresh ingredients. Since a central edict of the Bakey concept is that “the oven is always on,” the team is constantly baking fresh breads and pastries throughout the day. Their approach to Kosher baking focuses on healthy eating and clean, simple ingredients, including unbleached flour, natural sourdough resulting in products that are both fresh and delicious. The curated menu will be sweet and savory, with its well-known Chocolate Babka & Almond Babka with high-end German Marzipan at the center, where guests can either purchase loaves or slices. Other menu standouts include cheese burekas, cheese sticks, goat cheese croissants, chocolate croissants, rugalach and plain croissants, along with larger items like potato burekas (24") and spinach burekas (24"). The selection also features challah loaves in plain, sesame, poppy and festive varieties, as well as muesli rolls and sourdough bread. Bakey will also continue making fresh-baked New York bagels. The bakery offers wholesale services, an expanded catering and special events menu, and seasonal food and drink offerings for Jewish holidays and the holiday season. Guests can also choose from catering packages for groups of all sizes or order Bakey for delivery or pickup through Uber Eats and DoorDash. Complementing Bakey’s offerings, is an exceptional premium coffee program featuring beans sourced from Umbria, Italy. The coffee is expertly roasted off-site and freshly ground in-house, ensuring exceptional flavor and aroma in every sip of coffee. Formerly home to Kosher Bagel Cove, the space has been transformed by designer Alona Eliasi into a modern, light-filled bakery accented by warm tones, minimalist decor, and lush greenery. The bakery seats 50 guests indoors and an additional 70 outdoors. Upon entering, guests are greeted by grab-and-go offerings and display cases showcasing jewel-like pastries, freshly baked breads, and other house-made specialties. Every element has been carefully considered, from the presentation of the baked goods to the curated China plate ware. Bakey is continuing to grow in South Florida, with locations in Fort Lauderdale and Aventura currently in development. More details are forthcoming. Bakey is located at 668 West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Hallandale Beach, Florida 33009. • An Edge On The Market

An Edge On The Market By David Citron February 6, 2023 Share Anyone who might be interested in sharpening their collection of edge weaponry and antique tools from the 17th century till today and the times of the World Wars should be in touch with Vlad Krechmar at Zev Antiques. The name Zev meaning “given by god is derived” from the Hebrew origin word and meaning “my wolves” which is something Vlad knows about. Vlad was interested in the warm sunshine of South Florida and came to the states as a Ukranian. He developed a knack for collecting things which soon turned into a hobby and in 2003 started to develop a collectors business for rare items including swords and knives and other significant nostalgic items from battles long ago. It is all about the “eye of the beholder” and with katanas from martial arts and army knives and protective masks it is no wonder Vlad is a man about town on trade shows as can be seen from his varied and very diverse collection. Zev Antiques founded in 2012 features items that can currently be found on Ebay and in the plans and ideas in the works for the shop is ”a live auction“ to be held once a month in South Florida. It also happens to help that Vlad shares office space with the publisher of this article South Florida Sun Times. Trade show by trade show Vlad and Zev Antiques are accumulating quite the collection of unusual pieces and artifacts from times long ago as they carry in tradition by the actual pieces he sells ranging in price from $500-$3000. It is a very competitive market to be in and each piece of history is examined carefully, appraised at its going value. Currently the inventory features over 1000 items of the finest military antiques from all over the world. About 80 percent of sales are done online and 20 percent in person. As far as defining the trade shows it is quite expansive and can leave one out of breathe chasing the deals taking place city to city, table to table, sword to sword etc. Vegas for one holds the Vegas Antiques Arms and Armor conference and falls in the middle of January just as everyone has returned from “holiday shopping.” In Vegas you will find that while the cost of attending an average trade show is $8 to $15 of course the opportunity cost awaits at getting there. And when Vlad arrives he arrives in style with four tables valued at $400 each which is not too steep though can get pricey. February follows with a Civil War show. And Vlad rounds out the 5 or 6 most important shows to attend. Baltimore which quickly follows on in mid-March is also quite the scene and is valued for its participants who are vetted and seasoned and know a thing or two with an upper edge on the competition with exclusive crowds. The Allentown Pennsylvania Arms Show is scheduled and slated for February 25th and February 26th 2023 and with more shows on March 25th and 26th 2023 and finishing on April 22nd and 23rd all in the hopes of generating buzz and some real trades to go on. As far as international shows Zev Antiques likes to keep it on a national local basis as the majority of foreign shows bring their own representatives and representations to the states. Modern combatatives is for a different crowd. Vlad goes as a dealer to the shows but is in it for the “history more than the art” he is in it to buy culture artifacts, remnants, memories and the items that reflect this history. The shows culminate again city by city but the one not to miss is in Tulsa Oklahoma – a Military Show – 4000 tables – 50000 people attend daily. 4 days. The Tulsa Arms Show is scheduled twice a year starting with April 23, 2023. A celebration in its own right. There are also much larger shows like the Original Miami Beach Antique Show which go beyond the scope of weapons and of course the Antique District of Dania Beach which features all forms of antiques and celebrations of the past. The opportunity is to network. At his peak Vlad was attending 30 shows ranging from California, Chicago, Texas, all over the map. Vlad has recently slowed down a little in terms of navigating the wide world of antique edge weaponry trade shows as he is a new father with his wife Julia and his Christmas born baby of 2022 Olivia who is now a month old as of this writing. Zev Antiques currently operates on a limited but lean staff and its current goal is and in the next 5 years Vlad expects to have 12-15 employees running the operations behind the auctions and hopefully triple the size of the business. He plans to send delegates to the conferences in his stead to lighten some of the heavy lifting in the armored trade shows which all seem to be must see and must be at events. His items appeal to the first time adventurer (shows are generally open to the public) and the experienced professional. The team at Zev Antiques will appraise, buy, and take on consignment individual military objects & collections. You can reach them directly at: 904-672-6790 or via email at: zevantiques@gmail.com .
