- Enjoy A Workday Reset: Ways To Break Away From Your Desk And Boost Your Mood
Enjoy A Workday Reset: Ways To Break Away From Your Desk And Boost Your Mood August 24, 2023 Share In the Hustle and Bustle of modern work life, it's easy to become glued to our desks for hours on end. The allure of productivity keeps us seated, but in doing so, we may inadvertently drain our creativity, focus, and Overall Well-Being. Fortunately, there are simple yet effective ways to break away from the monotony and enjoy a workday reset. Let's explore some refreshing techniques to revitalize your spirits, boost morale, and reclaim your productivity. 1. Embrace The Power Of Nature Amidst the towering condo concrete jungles many of us live and work in, we often forget the healing properties of nature. Consider taking a stroll during your lunch break or finding a nearby park for a breath of fresh air. A mere 15 minutes amidst greenery can reduce Stress, improve focus, and invigorate your senses. Nature has an uncanny ability to reset our minds, allowing for increased creativity and problem-solving skills. So, step outside and let Mother Nature work her magic! 2. Engage In Physical Activity Sitting for extended periods can leave us feeling sluggish and unmotivated. Introduce a dose of Physical Activity into your workday to re-energize yourself. Whether it's stretching at your desk, doing some Yoga poses, or even going for a quick jog, exercise increases Endorphin Levels, leaving you feeling happier and more focused. Many offices also offer Wellness Programs, like Yoga Classes or Group Workouts, which provide an excellent opportunity to connect with colleagues while boosting your Overall Morale. 3. Connect With Colleagues When deadlines loom large, it's easy to forget the importance of social connections at work. Take the time to engage with your colleagues on a personal level. Sharing a friendly chat, going for a coffee break together, or having a team-building activity can foster a sense of camaraderie and support in the workplace. Stronger bonds lead to improved collaboration, creativity, and a healthier work environment. 4. Unplug And Meditate Our lives are inundated with screens, constant notifications, and a barrage of digital distractions. Give yourself a workday reset by unplugging from Technology for a few minutes. Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and practice meditation or deep breathing exercises. This simple act helps clear your mind, reduce Stress, and enhances your ability to focus when you return to your tasks. 5. Incorporate Mindful Breaks In the quest for productivity, we often underestimate the power of breaks. Schedule mindful breaks throughout your workday, even if they are brief. Set a timer for every hour to stand up, stretch, or take a short walk. These moments of rejuvenation prevent burnout, boost creativity, and improve Overall Mental Well-Being. Remember, work efficiency is not just about constant effort; it's about managing your energy wisely. 6. Embrace Flexibility And Remote Work If your company allows it, consider incorporating flexible work options or remote work days. Working from a different environment, like a cozy café or your backyard, can provide a refreshing change of scenery. The freedom to choose your workspace allows you to customize your surroundings, leading to increased job satisfaction and Morale. 7. Artistic Expression And Creativity Work is not only about numbers, reports, and meetings. Tap into your creative side by engaging in artistic endeavors during your work breaks. Whether it's doodling, writing, playing an instrument, or experimenting with crafts, artistic expression can foster a sense of accomplishment and joy. The act of creating something from scratch helps you recharge and return to your work with newfound inspiration. 8. Laugh And Have Fun Laughter is the best medicine, and it applies to the workplace too! Humor can lift spirits, relieve Stress, and create a positive atmosphere. Share a joke with colleagues or watch a funny video during your break to lighten the mood. Laughter triggers the release of Endorphins, promoting an Overall Sense of Well-Being and camaraderie among team members. 9. Sip On An Afternoon Coffee If Caffeine gives you that much-needed jolt to finish out the workday, head to your favorite local shop for a refreshing iced beverage. Pair it with a chilled snack for a perfect sweet and savory afternoon pick-me-up. Pairing Fruit with Nut or Seed Butter will fill you up and give you the energy needed to get through a morning or afternoon slump. Sliced Apples dipped in a mixture of Peanut Butter and Greek yogurt is a perfect energy-boosting snack. One item I am a fan of is Nestle Rallies Nut Butter Bombs, they are a perfect cure for those back-to-back video calls, delivering a balance of permissibility and indulgence while helping you rally through your workday. 10. Recognize And Celebrate Achievements Breaking away from your desk and enjoying a workday reset is crucial for maintaining productivity, creativity, and overall joy in your life. A balanced work-life is the key to success and happiness in your professional journey. So, make a conscious effort to reset and rejuvenate yourself throughout the workday – your productivity and Well-Being will thank you for it! < Previous News Next News >
- Fool’s Gold: The Art Of the Steal And The Privatization Of The Presidency | sun-times
Fool’s Gold: The Art Of the Steal And The Privatization Of The Presidency John & Nisha Whitehead Mar 11, 2026 In His State Of The Union Address, President Trump Declared That America Is Entering A “Golden Age.” Golden For Whom? For a president who lives lavishly in a taxpayer-funded mansion, jets around to weekend golf getaways at taxpayer expense, and dismisses concerns about “affordability” as fake news, life might indeed be gilded. For the rest of the country, it is fool’s gold. Nearly six-in-ten Americans say the country is worse off now than it was a year ago. Groceries cost more. Utilities cost more. Housing costs more. For millions of families, this is not a golden age. It is a painful lesson in imperial economics: the billionaire class lives large while “we the people” are told to live small. Trump is not working to make America great again. He is working to expand his wealth, protect his investments, and rule in gilded comfort at taxpayer expense. As a candidate, Trump promised to “drain the swamp.” Instead, the swamp has been privatized. When it comes to the true state of our nation, Americans would do well to examine not just what the Trump administration has accomplished—or failed to accomplish—but who has profited. The highest public office in the land has become a personal revenue stream for Donald Trump & Co.—a vehicle for private enrichment that monetizes access, influence and public assets while the public pays the tab. To monetize the presidency is to treat public power as property—something to be leased, leveraged and exploited for private gain. This is how you bilk a nation. The man who once lent his name to the ghostwritten The Art of the Deal is now authoring a far more instructive manual: The Art of the Steal—a step-by-step guide to how to convert a constitutional republic into a personal brand. According to the New York Times Editorial Board, “Trump has used the office of the presidency to make at least $1.4 Billion… All told, Mr. Trump has profited from his return to the presidency by an amount of money equal to 16,822 times the median U.S. household income.” Power attracts conmen and swindlers. It always has. But never has the grift been so openly institutionalized. Just consider the entries in this administration’s ledger. Personal indulgence and vanity projects: $400 Million and counting for a White House ballroom underwritten by corporate giants whose regulatory futures sit squarely in presidential hands. $70 Million for a luxury jet with a private bedroom so DHS Secretary Kristi Noem can fly around in comfort with her rumored partner. $28 Million for an Amazon documentary on Melania Trump. Tens of millions for Trump’s weekend golf trips to Mar-a-Lago, including what he charges the American taxpayer for the Secret Service to be housed at the resort. Policy decisions that generate revenue or leverage: Billions in stealth taxes disguised as “emergency” tariff revenues paid for by the American people. According to NPR, the federal government is now collecting roughly $30 Billion per month in tariff revenue—far more than it collected from import taxes before Trump returned to office—largely paid for by American consumers. So when Trump tries to sell Americans on the idea that tariffs could eventually replace income taxes—a clear bid to overturn the Supreme Court’s ruling against his tariff policy—don’t believe it. That’s just another money grab. A $10 Billion taxpayer buy-in to a privatized Board of Peace created and controlled by Trump in perpetuity with no real oversight or accountability. $230 Million in damages Trump claims he is owed over investigations into his own past misconduct. Another $10 Billion in damages which Trump claims he is owed after an IRS contractor was convicted of leaking his tax information. Millions in trademark rights and licensing fees tied to Trump’s name on public infrastructure. As trademark attorney Josh Gerben notes, “The move raises unusual questions about the intersection of public infrastructure and private brand ownership. While presidents and public officials have had landmarks named in their honor, a sitting president’s private company has never in the history of the United States sought trademark rights in advance of such naming.” At least $23 Million from licensing Trump’s name overseas since his re-election. $4 Billion flowing into Trump family coffers in the first year of his second term, including $867 Million through cryptocurrency ventures. Public money redirected toward private allies and enforcement expansion: $128 Million for an ICE warehouse purchased three years earlier for $29 million—a $100 million markup benefiting a Russian-backed company. $15 Million earmarked to feed starving children internationally, which was instead impounded for OMB director Russell Vought’s security detail. $51 Billion in taxes not paid by Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Tesla in 2025 after receiving a 4.9% tax rate. A $10 Billion government contract between the Army and Palantir, founded by Trump supporter Peter Thiel. Foreign entanglements and gifts: A $400 Million luxury plane from the Qatari government, which will be retrofitted at taxpayer expense for Trump’s official use as Air Force One and which he plans to take with him when he leaves office. Hundreds of millions more from foreign government-linked investors gaining access through the purchase of the Trump family’s cryptocurrency ventures. These are not isolated expenditures. They reveal a pattern. They speak to the blueprint Trump has used to monetize his stint in the White House. The Founders anticipated precisely this danger: a president tempted to convert public trust into private profit. The Constitution’s Foreign and Domestic Emoluments Clauses were intended to prevent a president from profiting from office. With Congress unwilling to enforce the Constitution and the courts slow to intervene, these guardrails have weakened. As the Brennan Center concludes, “Not even the most notorious public corruption scandals from American history can match the scale of Trump’s profiteering in terms of total dollar amount.” This is how access to power is sold to the highest bidders. The American system of government was designed as a constitutional covenant: power delegated, limited, and bound by law. What we are witnessing is transactional governance: access traded, favors exchanged, loyalty rewarded, and policy negotiated like a business deal. This pay-to-play culture now permeates the highest levels of power. The U.S. government is fast becoming a self-serving, money-laundering enterprise masquerading as legitimate authority. The choice before us is not partisan. It is constitutional. A republic cannot survive when public office becomes private property. As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, this is how republics fall. It is time to drain the swamp. - From Poolside To Purpose - YMCA Of South Florida’s Beach Ball Gala Celebrates A Decade Of Saving Lives Through Water Safety | sun-times
From Poolside To Purpose - YMCA Of South Florida’s Beach Ball Gala Celebrates A Decade Of Saving Lives Through Water Safety South Florida Sun Times Sep 24, 2026 For 10 Years, The YMCA Of South Florida’s Beach Ball Gala Has Brought Together Community Leaders, Philanthropists And Advocates For An Evening With A Purpose That Reaches Far Beyond The Dance Floor: Keeping South Florida Children Safe In And Around The Water. The 10th Annual Beach Ball Gala will take place Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception and silent auction, followed by dinner, dancing and a closer look at the YMCA’s ongoing efforts to prevent drowning and expand access to lifesaving water-safety education. More than 600 guests are expected to attend the milestone celebration. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino returns as Title Sponsor, with Nicklaus Children’s Health System serving as Presenting Sponsor. But the heart of the evening is not simply the celebration—it is what the event makes possible for children and families across South Florida. A Mission Measured in Lives All proceeds from the Beach Ball Gala support financial assistance for the YMCA of South Florida’s aquatics programs, including free and subsidized swim lessons for underserved youth, wet and dry water-safety instruction, Swim for Jenny and resources designed to help families prevent child drownings. For YMCA of South Florida CEO Sheryl A. Woods, this year’s event represents two significant milestones: a decade of fundraising through the Beach Ball and a major development in the region’s fight against drowning. “This year’s Beach Ball Gala is very special to us, as we celebrate two major milestones,” Woods said. “In addition to commemorating 10 years of gathering community leaders to raise funds in support of the Y’s aquatics programs, we are also happy to announce that Broward and Miami-Dade Counties no longer lead the nation in drowning deaths, which is a very important step in our mission.” The progress, she emphasized, is a community achievement. “It is because of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Nicklaus Children’s Health System, and all our sponsors and supporters that we are saving lives,” Woods said. “Let’s keep it up.” Building Water-Safe Kids In a region surrounded by pools, canals, beaches and waterways, water safety is not simply an extracurricular skill. For many South Florida families, it is a fundamental part of keeping children safe. The YMCA’s approach combines swimming instruction with practical drowning-prevention education. Its eight-lesson drowning prevention course costs just $125 per child and is designed to give children the skills and confidence they need to swim and respond safely in the water. For families who might otherwise face financial barriers to swim instruction, assistance supported by the Beach Ball can make those lessons accessible. That access is particularly important because drowning prevention begins well before an emergency. Teaching children how to swim, helping families understand water hazards and reinforcing safe behaviors can give children tools that remain with them for years. The YMCA’s aquatics initiatives reflect that broader philosophy. From Swim for Jenny to wet and dry safety lessons, the programs are designed not only to teach children to swim but also to create a culture of prevention throughout the community. Ten Years, One Purpose Over the past decade, the Beach Ball has evolved into one of the YMCA of South Florida’s signature fundraising events, using an elegant evening of food, entertainment and philanthropy to address an urgent community need. The 2026 gala offers guests an opportunity to celebrate the progress already made while helping sustain the work ahead. Early-bird tickets and sponsorship opportunities are now available. Sponsorship levels range from Silver at $3,500 to Emerald at $50,000, with additional opportunities at Gold, Ruby, Platinum, Platinum Plus and Diamond levels. For an organization whose work touches South Florida residents from infancy through adulthood, aquatics is just one part of a much larger mission. The YMCA of South Florida has served the community for more than a century and today offers more than 200 programs, from fitness and health and wellness initiatives to camps, afterschool care, community events and aquatics. Yet water safety carries a particular urgency in a community where the water is woven into everyday life. The Beach Ball Gala turns that urgency into action—helping ensure that a child’s first experience in the pool can be the beginning of confidence and joy, rather than a preventable tragedy. Ten years after the first Beach Ball, the message remains clear: learning to swim can be life-changing. And, in South Florida, it can be lifesaving. - Tax Day Is Coming: Protect Your Identity And Refund From Online Scammers
Tax Day Is Coming: Protect Your Identity And Refund From Online Scammers April 11, 2024 Share Filing taxes online has made an often-dreaded task easier and more convenient. However, it's important to be aware of heightened cyber security risks during Tax Season that could lead to Identity Theft. In 2023, the IRS flagged over a million tax returns for possible Identity Theft and found a 31% increase in fraudulent returns from the previous year. With a large majority of taxpayers opting to file electronically, the threat of cybercriminals using your SSN to file and steal your return is real. The experts at LifeLock have pro tips on how to safeguard your identity by learning about common scams and the steps to take to keep your information safe during Tax Season. Online criminals that prey on taxpayers seek ways to obtain personal and financial information to steal your identity, file tax returns under your name to steal your refund, or convince you to send them Money, Gift Cards or Cryptocurrencies. While you may not think you're vulnerable to obvious tax and IRS imposter scams, criminals are using convincingly sophisticated tactics. And they love to prey on late filers. So, it's vital to stay alert when it comes to your personal information as the tax deadline approaches. Watch for these tax scams, here are four common tactics you may see, and how to avoid falling for them: 1. Phishy IRS Schemes These scams are designed to convince you that a message supposedly from the IRS is legitimate, tricking you into clicking an embedded link in an email or text. These links then lead to fake IRS websites created to record information you input. Or they contact you by phone or text pretending to be from the IRS and rope you into a scam. Some fraudsters will use phishing scams to get your personal information, threaten or trick you into paying a "balance you owe" using Gift Cards, Cryptocurrency or Wire Transfers. If you would like to verify a contact from the IRS go to: www.IRS.gov and search on the letter, notice, or form number. Please be aware fraudsters often modify legitimate IRS letters and forms. You can also find information at Understanding your notice or letter or by searching forms and instructions. For additional information please see How to know it’s really the IRS calling or knocking on your door. If it is legitimate, you'll find instructions on how to respond. If the completion of a form is required and it’s provided by a questionable contact, you should verify the form is identical to the same form on: www.IRS.gov by searching forms and instructions. If you don't find information on our website or the instructions are different from what you were told to do in the letter, notice or form, please use the appropriate online resources. Once you have determined that it is not legitimate, report the incident to: phishing@irs.gov . Pro Tip: The IRS will never contact you via email, text or phone without reaching out by mail first. The IRS does not accept payments via Gift Cards, Cryptocurrency or Wire Transfers. For concerns about your taxes from this year or any year, go straight to: www.IRS.gov . If an email looks "phishy," it probably is. You can flag the message as phishing or junk and/or simply delete it. Get a threatening or suspicious phone call supposedly from the IRS? Hang up. 2. Ghost Tax Prep Services When hiring someone to do your taxes, make sure to use a reputable tax preparation service. A legitimate tax preparer must have a valid Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) and sign your return once complete. Refusing to sign is an indication they could be a ghost tax preparer, only interested in collecting the fee. Another warning sign is requiring a cash payment. Pro Tip: You can check the credentials of legitimate tax preparers by using the IRS Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers. 3. Social Media Scams Fake tax advice groups and profiles lure people by promising insider tips and bigger refunds, only to phish for sensitive data. These groups often appear legit, and may contact you via direct messages, comments or through seemingly harmless quizzes or surveys. Phishing links disguised as helpful resources or urgent notifications trick users into revealing critical information or downloading malware. Pro Tip: Privacy settings are your first line of defense against Identity Theft on Social Media. These settings control who sees your posts, personal details and even friend lists, which can all be used by cybercriminals. Learn more about staying safe on Social Media and other tips on LifeLock's blog. 4. Tax Identity Theft Scammers can use information like your SSN, birthdate and employer to file a fraudulent return in your name. Then they can collect your refund and use your information to open Credit Cards and Accounts. Pro Tip: Get an IP (Identity Protection) PIN, a six-digit number known only to you and the IRS, each year before filing as an added layer of security against thieves. Filing with an incorrect or missing IP PIN will result in the rejection of your e-filed return and it may be flagged for potential fraud until it can be verified. The easiest way to get an IP PIN is to register on the IRS website. How To Protect Yourself Regularly monitor your Financial Accounts, Credit Cards and Credit Scores for unusual activity and fraudulent transactions. If you try filing and are notified that a Tax Return was already filed in your name, you can complete a paper return and include form 14039 (Identity Theft Affidavit) that provides all the necessary details for the IRS to open an investigation. Request a copy of the fraudulent return to help understand what information was used by the thief. If you receive a telephone call or message from someone claiming to be with the IRS and you are not comfortable providing the information, you should contact the IRS customer service line at: 1 (800) 829-4933 to verify the validity of the call or message. < Previous News Next News >

- 5 Unique Nutritional Needs Of Tiny But Mighty Pups | sun-times
5 Unique Nutritional Needs Of Tiny But Mighty Pups By BPT Aug 6, 2025 National Small Dog Day Is Fast Approaching, A Day Dedicated To The Small Dogs Of The Pack. These Pups May Come In A Small Package (Generally Weighing 20 Pounds Or Less), But They Have Big Personalities And Can Make A Huge Impact On The Lives Of Their Owners. "Despite their stature, small dogs are anything but pint-sized when it comes to their energy, personalities and distinct traits," said Purina veterinarian, Dr. RuthAnn Lobos. "They tend to live longer than larger dogs and love activity, play and adventure just as much as any other dog. However, they have a unique set of needs, and it's important for pet owners to recognize and support these through proper nutrition." Curious about how to support your compact canine companion's nutrition? Check out these expert tips that can help you properly support your tiny dog's mighty needs. 1. Nutrient-dense food According to the Independent & Neighborhood Pet Retail Association, because their organs process food more quickly than those of larger dogs, smaller dogs need more calories per pound and food with high-quality ingredients. To support your small dog's fast metabolism throughout their long life, feed them high-quality, calorie- and nutrient-dense food while ensuring they keep an ideal body condition. Dog food specially formulated for small dogs can provide all the Protein, antioxidants, and other essential nutrients they need to fuel their play. 2. Food with high antioxidant levels You've probably seen many products at your grocery store boasting their antioxidant properties. Well, they're not just for humans! You can support your petite pup's Immune System by purchasing dog food that is rich in antioxidants. According to PetMD, there are numerous health benefits provided by antioxidants. These major molecules can protect cells from damage and strengthen the Immune System, which can help to prevent serious health issues from developing. 3. Protein-rich meals If you regularly hit the gym, you know how important Protein is to support your gains. According to Dr. Lobos, small dogs also need Protein to help them repair, grow and maintain strong muscles. "When searching for dog foods to strengthen your pet, make sure to pick formulations that have essential Amino Acids from key Protein sources to support their activity and growth," says Dr. Lobos. 4. Smaller kibble Small dogs have small jaws and teeth, which can make it challenging for them to eat large pieces of kibble. When choosing food for your pups, Dr. Lobos recommends going for dry dog food made with small dogs in mind. The smaller pieces of kibble not only help them chew more easily but also support their digestive and dental health. 5. Wet food If you only feed your small dog dry food, consider adding wet food to their diet. According to Dr. Lobos, even if you're feeding them high-quality, nutritious kibble, wet food can encourage selective eaters to engage with their bowls. Bonus: Wet food can also help your hound hydrate by adding moisture to their diet! One product made for the tiny but mighty There are many brands of dog food to choose from, but not all of them address a small dog's nutritional needs. However, you can rest easy knowing your small pup is getting the specialized nutrition they need when they eat Beneful IncrediBites. The line of wet and dry products is made to support small dogs. It delivers big taste, fuels their larger-than-life personalities and supports their unique nutritional needs. - Invitation From The Consul General Of Israel In Miami To Go On A Mission To Israel With European And North American Mayors - Part VI | sun-times
Invitation From The Consul General Of Israel In Miami To Go On A Mission To Israel With European And North American Mayors - Part VI By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper Aug 20, 2026 This Week Is The Final In My Israel Series But Probably One Of The Most Significant. While we traveled together as elected officials, this trip was full of unique experiences including a visit and a personal tour with the Deputy Mayor of Ramat Gan to their EOC and one of the areas hit by cluster bombs. Traveling to Shalva Center, Yad Vashem, and the Old City. Visiting Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Visiting the Tekuma Car Wall and Nova Memorial site just one kilometer away from Gaza. Gathering with mayors from across the State of Israel at the Muni Expo and hearing from Prime Minister Netanyahu. I would say the last meeting we had gave a glimpse into the war, the strategic planning for Operation Roaring Lion, and the successful attack on Iran. During the visit, we received a security briefing at the Institute for National Security Studies. This is not simply a school of war but also a think tank. We heard from the Managing Director, Brigadier General Tamir Hayman; he was also the former Chief of Israel's Military Intelligence Directorate. To say the least, we had a 2-hour-long briefing on Hamas, Hezbollah, and the war, some of which I cannot share. Hamas had long planned October 7th. Over 6,500 people invaded from Gaza: terrorist soldiers and everyday civilians. They had relied on Hezbollah joining them in the north; luckily, that did not happen. Israel was at war. One that was unprovoked and against peaceful civilians. One message was loud and clear from Brigadier General. Israel will continue to operate as a sovereign nation defending its borders and eliminating the threats to their peace. President Trump did not dictate what Israel did or does, nor did Israel dictate what President Trump did or does. It was a strategic partnership that did not start on October 7th but has existed since CENTCOM has been a partner with Israel. This partnership is vital to both parties given the threat of terrorism. It also brings stability to the Middle East. Due to the Abraham Accords, this partnership has grown stronger and has grown to include other allies in the Middle East. Allies have worked together in the fight against Iran and its aim to have a nuclear weapon. No matter the successful result of Roaring Lion, Israel will continue on their mission to what they refer to as decapitation: elimination of the leaders and perpetrators of October 7th. War is not Israel's goal. They are targeting threats, terrorists, and military targets. The start of Israel's retaliation started with a planned deployment developed jointly with the Prime Ministry, Heads of Israel's strategic command, IDF, and Mossad intelligence. Operation Roaring Lion succeeded, hidden behind a series of actions. The first action was the planned bombing of a joint terrorist leadership meeting. The next step was the deployment of Beepers, targeting upper-level commanders as well. Israel's ingenuity and strategic planning never cease to amaze. If these missions were not successful Roaring Lion would not have worked. The major request Israel made was the USA's commitment of B-52 bombers. President Trump committed them, and they were able to destroy most of Iran's capabilities. All the allies joined to confront this nuclear threat. The threat is real. It took amazing planning and precision execution. Israel does not go after innocent civilians. Until anyone has visited or experienced the horrific war zone and the results of October 7th, you truly cannot grasp why Israel must continue fighting and protecting their borders from these threats. Any other country, including ours, would and has done the same. America must remain involved to stabilize a region. It is not simply about Israel but about regional and world security. Collaboration By Fabiola Stuyvesant, Sunny Isles Beach Commissioner September 21, 2023 Share When it comes to governing, it is less what we can do alone and more what we can achieve together. Elected officials need to be made aware of what the issues are, reach out to the proper agencies and become agents of change in search of a solution. In January 2023, I participated in a Public Meeting at our NSE SIB K-8 School to discuss issues affecting our children’s educational experience. As a result, a “taskforce” was created with representatives from MDCPS, SIB community leaders and parents. Many steps were promptly put into action to address cleanliness, teacher shortages, security, etc. However, despite the progress made and due to the overcrowding situation, MDCPS made the decision to put a cap on new enrollments. It is extremely unfair for residents of SIB to be denied enrollment in our school because students from other cities are taking their spots. Another school must be built. Nevertheless, we in the taskforce continue to look for short and long-term solutions. In another instance, residents of Poinciana Island (my home residence) approached me seeking help in communicating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and DERM regarding their finger pier applications. I am proud that after several meetings and reviews with these agencies, we were able to update the permit process to bring the unpermitted structures to compliance and for owners to apply directly to the agencies to build their finger pier. Nonetheless, so much work continues to be done, but working together we will be able to accomplish more. Please do not hesitate to reach out – we can only help if we know what the issues are.
