  • Grill-Free Greatness Air Fryer Steak Recipe A Gastro Game Changer | sun-times

Grill-Free Greatness Air Fryer Steak Recipe A Gastro Game Changer South Florida Sun Times Mar 20, 2025 I Love A Grilled Steak, But I Don’t Love Standing Out In The Cold To Grill It. And I Don’t Love Heating Up The House With The Oven, Especially During The Warmer Months. The Air Fryer Is Always A Great Option, Regardless Of Weather Or Season! Why? Because Of The Consistent Heat That Is Created In That Small Little Chamber, The Steak Cooks Perfectly Every Time In The Air Fryer. You’ll Get Consistent Results Because You Don’t Have To Worry About The Temperature Changing Up. It’s SO hands off! Once you get it going, you can go do other things! All you need to remember to do is to flip it once during cooking time. Go work on the sides for dinner or tidy up the kitchen. No need to babysit! Near the end of cooking time, I do recommend keeping an eye on the internal temperature. Because cooking time WILL vary, depending on the thickness of your steak. What cut of steak is best for an Air Fryer? • Get the best steak you can afford. • A Ribeye Steak is a good choice because of the amount of fat marble. • A New York Strip Steak will work well too, just look for a nice fat cap as well as some good marbling. • Ask your butcher to give you the best Ribeye or Strip Steak they have. To get the most bang for your buck, get the best one that is available that day. • Aim for steaks that are close to 1 1/2 inches thick. Ingredients and Supplies for The Perfect Air Fryer Steak Recipe: Steak Ingredients: • Ribeye Steaks • Avocado Oil • Salt • Black Pepper Garlic Herb Butter Ingredients: • Unsalted Butter • Chopped Fresh Parsley • Minced Garlic • Worcestershire Sauce • Salt Supplies: • Cutting board • Paper towel • Meat thermometer • Air Fryer How to cook steak in an Air Fryer: Step 1: Temper the Steak First, as with any steak, it’s wise to “temper” your meat. This helps it cook more evenly. If you have a thinner steak, 20 minutes will do. A thicker steak would need more time, like 30 minutes. Step 2: Use a Little Oil Next, rub the Steak with just a small amount of oil. You’ll want an oil with a high smoke point (I use avocado). This will help the seasonings you use stick to the meat. And then prepare the garlic butter by mixing together the softened butter, parsley, garlic, Worcestershire Sauce and the salt. Step 3: Liberally season the steak Pat the Steaks dry with paper towels, then rub a little bit of oil over the Steak and on the bottom of the air fryer basket. Season your steak liberally. In this recipe, I used Kosher salt because I have the seasoned butter that I will add at the end. It’s better to be a little heavy handed when it comes to salt and steak. Important note: Be sure to get the sides too! You can dab them in any over-sprinkle from your seasoning. Step 4: Preheat the Air Fryer In a lot of my recipes, I don’t worry about preheating. HOWEVER, preheating the Air Fryer for steak is a MUST! Preheat at 400 Degrees Fahrenheit or 200 Degrees Celsius for at least 5 minutes. Pro Tip: I like to place the fatty side down first in the Air Fryer and hold it there for a few seconds before I lay the steak down. Step 5: Air Fry Steak Once the Air Fryer is preheated, place steaks in the Air Fryer and then Air Fry for 10-16 minutes, flipping and rotating halfway through. Cooking time will vary depending on your Air Fryer and thickness of steaks. Internal temperature of the steak should be 130˚F or 54˚C – 135˚F or 57˚C for Medium-Rare or 140˚F or 60˚C – 145˚F or 63˚C for Medium. Step 6: Rest air fried steak Remove steak from the Air Fryer and place it on the baking rack. Top with garlic butter and allow to rest for 1/2 the time it took to cook. Alternatively, turn off the Air Fryer, leaving steaks in it, top steaks with butter, close the Air Fryer and let rest for half the amount of time it took to cook. How long does it take a steak to cook in an Air Fryer? Cooking time will vary depending on your Air Fryer and the thickness of your steaks. So you need to have an instant read meat thermometer to know when your steak is done cooking! As a general rule of thumb, plan on about 15 minutes to cook with 1 1/2-inch thick steaks, but check the temp to get it just right just right. Air Fryer Steak Internal Temperature Guide The nice thing about steak is that you can cook it to the internal temperature that you love best. Here are the recommended internal temperatures for steak. Rare: 125˚F/52˚C Medium Rare: 135°F/57˚C Medium: 145°F/63˚C Medium Well: 150˚/66˚C Well Done: 160˚F/71˚C You’ll need to flip and rotate the meat just once during cooking if you are using an Air Fryer. Only do that once, as you want to handle the meat as little as possible. Once the steak reaches desired internal temp, it’s time to let your steak rest. The general rule of thumb is to let the steak rest for half the time it took to cook it. This will allow the internal temp to equalize and lock in the juices. YUM. It’s also important to remember that the steak will continue to cook after removing it from the heat. For example, if you want to cook it to 130˚F/54˚C, you will want to remove the steak from the heat just a few degrees less to get a perfectly cooked steak! There are two ways you can let the steak rest. 1. Remove the steaks and let them rest on a cooling rack (or something that keeps the steak lifted from the surface), and top with your garlic butter. 2. OR you can top them with the butter while they sit in the Air Fryer and let them rest right in the basket. Easy Garlic Herb Butter Recipe for Steak I love this simple garlic herb butter recipe! It adds just the right amount of flavor to the steak and makes it look even more amazing too. Make extra to add to mashed potatoes, veggies, bread, fish and more. Ingredients 2 Tablespoons of Unsalted Butter, softened 1/2 Tablespoon of Chopped Fresh Parsley 1/2 Teaspoon of Minced Garlic 1/4 Teaspoon of Worcestershire Sauce 1/8 Teaspoon of Salt Instructions Mix together the softened, Unsalted Butter, the Chopped Fresh Parsley, the Minced Garlic, Worcestershire Sauce and the Salt. If you only have salted butter, just reduce or omit the amount of added salt. Easy peasy! This Air Fryer steak recipe is simple and juicy! • An Autonomous World Starts with a Robotic Chanukah

An Autonomous World Starts with a Robotic Chanukah By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil December 25, 2024 Share Chanukah is known for the miracle of the Menorah that took place in the Temple, but the holiday was called Chanukah from the word Chanukat Habayit (lit Dedication of House), because it was the rededication of the Temple, after being occupied by the Greeks. Chanukah also comes from the word Chinuch, which means education. During this holiday we are supposed to gather our families together and educate our children and ourselves, about the miracles done for us on a constant basis. Together with recalling the original Chanukah miracles, we remind our families about the personal family stories that we each have, that brought us to where we are today. Chanukah (sometimes spelled Hanukkah or Hanuka), which is also known as the Festival of Lights, begins this year on the evening of Wednesday, December 25th, 2024, and concludes 8 days later, on the evening of Thursday, January 2nd, 2025. It recalls the victory of a militarily weak Jewish people who defeated the Syrian Greeks who had overrun ancient Israel and sought to impose restrictions on the Jewish way of life and prohibit religious freedom. They also desecrated and defiled the Temple and the oils prepared for the lighting of the menorah, which was part of the daily service. Upon recapturing the Temple only one jar of undefiled oil was found, enough to burn only one day, but it lasted miraculously for eight. In commemoration, Jews celebrate Chanukah for eight days by lighting an eight-branched candelabrum known as a menorah (the 9th branch is to help light the other 8). Today, people of all faiths consider this holiday a symbol and message of the triumph of freedom over oppression, of spirit over matter, of light over darkness. Additional information about the holiday is available at: www.ChabadChayil.org/Holidays. This year’s menorah lighting is done with the recognition of the crucial need for a message of hope during a time that is so difficult for the people in Israel. The menorah serves as a symbol of light and hope for us today amidst the world's craziness, as it did for generations before us. The flames of the menorah shine out into the night, reminding us that even when confronted with much darkness, a tiny light can dispel it all. Each additional act of goodness and kindness, fills that corner of the world with light, slowly catching on and spreading like wildfire. One act of goodness and kindness can make all the difference. Uniquely, at the core of Chanuka’s observance is sharing the light with others who may not be experiencing it. What better time or place to celebrate, than at this year's 21st annual Street Fair celebration in Highland Lakes! This year's theme will be Robotic Chanukah, featuring the world-renowned Sophia the Robot, Robodog and several other robot celebrities! The free family-friendly event will this year take place on Sunday, December 29th, 2024/5785 beginning at 3:30 p.m. with pony rides, a petting zoo, an Obstacle Course, Laser Tag, Bounce House and other fun activities. This year's Street Fair will also feature Pedal Yard, teaching kids how to ride a 2 wheel bike on their own. There will also be a food court, holiday boutique, with music and lots of surprises throughout the day. As a family man who is deeply involved in the community, I must say that there is no better way to spend that Sunday. Adults and children alike, are welcomed to join the many dignitaries and community leaders for an enjoyable and a meaningfully fun time for everyone. The idea behind a Robotic Chanukah is, as the world gets ready for Moshiach, where we will all be busy with studying Torah and doing Mitzvahs, we will have robots helping us with our regular daily mundane tasks. Since Chanukah comes from the word Chinuch (education), we need to educate ourselves and prepare ourselves for an autonomous world, so that we can stay focused on what really matters! Sophia is the most realistic humanoid robot capable of displaying humanlike expressions and interacting with people. She’s the world's first robot to hold a passport and an Ambassador for the United Nations (whatever that's worth). This will be Sophia's first official Chanukah Celebration and her first time lighting a Menorah! Throughout the State of Florida, Chabad will be organizing scores of giant menorah displays of all sorts, including a grand celebration with the Miami Heat on January 1st, 2025, a huge concert at Rick Case Arena and scores of others. To find a local event here in Florida, or anywhere throughout the world, visit Chabad’s international Chanukah event directory at ChabadChayil.org/Chanukah or the Jewish community’s local directory at: https://JewishFlorida.news/events. This year, Chabad-organized menorah parades will see over 8,000 Chanukah menorah-topped cars hit the road, bringing the Chanukah message of hope and joy through the city and into residential neighborhoods, allowing families to safely share the joy and light of Chanukah with pride. Chabad centers worldwide have prepared over 32 million Chanukah candles, more than 700,000 menorah kits and 2.5 million holiday guides in 17 languages. Large display Menorahs are available at many online sources and can still get to you in time for the holiday. If you need a menorah or candles for yourself, or need any help celebrating the holiday or finding a large Menorah to display at your place of work, please call your local Chabad or my office at: (305) 770-1919. My favorite is the new LED ones available at: https://bit.ly/lightupmenorah. We can also help you plan your own Chanukah event, Menorah lighting or Latke party. And if you book early enough, we can send you a group of Yeshiva students to liven up or help run your event. We hope and pray for an end to all violence in the world, the return of all hostages and the eradication of all evil. We know that at the end goodness and light will prevail, and that even though we are outnumbered, righteousness will endure. We wish you and your family a very happy Chaunkah. May our days be filled with light, warmth, joy and positive energy, and always increasing, just like the Menorah lights that increase with each day. To join us for the beautiful annual free Chanukah event, become a vendor or sponsor, call (305) 770-1919 or visit: www.ChabadChayil.org/events. • Don’t Overlook Key Coverage Gaps, Start 2026 Right By Reviewing Your Insurance Policy | sun-times

Don’t Overlook Key Coverage Gaps, Start 2026 Right By Reviewing Your Insurance Policy South Florida Sun Times Jan 28, 2026 As Families Are Getting Settled In The New Year, AAA Experts Suggest Adding One Crucial Financial Task To The Top Of The List: Reviewing Their Insurance Coverage. While Health And Savings Goals Are Common Priorities For 2026, Ensuring That Your Home, Auto And Assets Are Adequately Protected Is A Vital Step Toward Long-Term Financial Security. “Many homeowners renew their policies automatically, overlooking how their lives and homes have changed over the past year,” said Mark Jenkins, Public Relations Manager for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “This 'set it and forget it' approach can create significant coverage gaps. A comprehensive insurance review ensures policy limits align with current needs and replacement costs." Key Moments When Homeowners Should Revisit Their Coverage Home Additions or Renovations – Projects such as kitchen or bathroom upgrades, finishing a basement, replacing the roof, or installing a pool can significantly increase a home’s value. Policyholders should confirm that their dwelling coverage limits reflect these improvements. Recent roof replacements may qualify homeowners for lower premiums. Life Changes That Affect Coverage – Major milestones can shift a household’s insurance needs, yet many families forget to update their policies accordingly. Changes such as marriage, divorce, teenage drivers, adult children moving out, or welcoming a new baby can influence liability considerations, personal property needs, and eligibility for certain discounts. Keeping household occupants accurate ensures the policy reflects the home’s current risk profile. Acquiring High‑Value Items – New valuables, such as watches, jewelry, fine art, electronics, photography equipment, firearms, musical instruments, silverware, or high‑end furniture, may exceed standard personal property limits. Many of these items require a scheduled personal property rider to ensure full protection. Working From Home – With remote and hybrid work becoming increasingly common, homeowners should consider coverage for their home office equipment. Standard policies typically cap reimbursement for business equipment at $2,500, which may not cover computers, monitors, routers, and other essential devices. Upgrades That Lower Risk and May Earn Discounts – Certain improvements not only protect the home but may also reduce insurance premiums. These include: • Updated plumbing or electrical systems • Smoke detectors and fire alarms • Security systems and smart home monitoring • Water leak detection devices • Other home protection technologies that reduce the likelihood or severity of losses Ensuring Adequate Replacement Value – Homeowners should verify that their dwelling coverage reflects the current cost to rebuild, not the original purchase price. Construction and labor costs continue to fluctuate, making it essential to confirm that coverage is sufficient to fully replace the home after a major loss. Don’t Overlook Auto Coverage Just like homeowners’ policies, auto insurance needs can shift over time, yet many drivers renew without reviewing their coverage. “Changes such as buying a new vehicle, adding a teen driver, moving to a new neighborhood, or driving more (or less) than in previous years can all affect premiums and protection levels,” Jenkins said. AAA recommends confirming that liability limits are adequate, optional coverages like uninsured motorist protection are up to date, and discounts for safe driving, good student discount for teens, telematics like AAADrive, or multi-vehicle households are being applied. AAA Triple Check®: A Simple Review to Catch Costly Gaps AAA offers a free Triple Check® policy review for both auto and home insurance that’s available to everyone, whether you’re insured with AAA or another provider. The Triple Check® process ensures your coverage is tailored to your needs and competitively priced by: • Identifying potential coverage gaps to protect what matters most. • Assessing recent life changes that may impact your insurance needs. • Verifying discounts you may qualify for. • Uncovering opportunities to save across multiple policies. “Utilizing AAA’ s Triple Check® for a quick annual review can help families avoid costly oversights and take advantage of new savings opportunities, making it a simple resolution with a big impact,” added Jenkins. “Your home is likely your biggest investment, so starting 2026 with the right coverage is one of the smartest resolutions you can make.” For more details on AAA products and services, AAA members and consumers can connect with a AAA Insurance agent at their local branch or visit: www.AAA.com/Insurance . It will certainly be fine for everyone, no matter if you what to get hands deep in the action or just watch come and spend some time with some of Miami's top ceramic artists at work on the pottery wheel! Inspired by Roberto Lugo's Street Shrines exhibition and his dazzling array of ceramic work, we're hosting a potter-in-residence from the Ceramic League of Miami in our streetside Bridge Tender House (Josephine Baker Pavilion) each Friday evening in February, 10, 17, and 24 at 7–9pm. Pass by along Washington Avenue for a close-up look at throwing and get a chance to try your hand at the wheel—plus, stop in our Design Store to enjoy half-priced drink specials while you browse a pop-up selection of ceramics from resident potters. Get Your Hands Dirty Throwing your own pottery as a hobby or for a business, can be a thoroughly rewarding experience. From vases through to bowls, the finished articles that you can create are many and varied. The key skill to master when creating your pottery piece is the use of your pottery wheel. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use a pottery wheel for beginners. Step 1: Spin the wheel and slightly moisten the center of your bat with your sponge. Step 2: Place your clay on to the center of the bat in a gumdrop shape. Flatten the edges of the clay with the palm of your hand, turning the wheel manually until all sides are flattened down. Following this, use your index finger to press the edges of the clay, sealing the edge of the clay to the bat. Step 3: Once you are satisfied that the clay is firmly in place, increase the speed of the wheel and put some water on to your hands. Before starting to manipulate the clay, ensure that your elbows are locked to your legs. Step 4: Use your left hand to push the clay up (this is called coning up) and use your right hand as support. Use the palms of your hands to squeeze the clay inwards, allowing the clay to pop up between your hands. As the manipulated clay gets taller, maintain an ‘A’ shape with your thumbs. Step 5; Following the coning up of your clay, you also need to cone down in order to center the clay and ensure that you can push the clay to where you need it to go. At this point you should add more water if needed. Place the fat part of your left thumb (where it meets the palm of your hand) directly on top of the center of the clay and place pressure away from you (not down on to the clay). The fingers of your left hand should wrap gently around the front of the clay. Step 6: Your right hand should also be placed at the top of your clay but on the side and gently pushing the clay to the center. The fingers of your right hand should also be gently wrapped around the clay. Step 7: Both hands should be pushed in the directions described above and then slowly slide your hands down the clay in tandem. At this point you should have created a ‘cone up’ position for your clay. Keep repeating this method, with more water if necessary, until the clay is centered. The best method of establishing whether the clay is centered is by placing your hands gently around the clay and slowly spinning the wheel. If your hands stay in place then your clay is centered, but if they move and wobble then you will need to repeat more coning. Step 8: At this point, you will start to form the size and shape of your pottery. Rest your hands on the sides of your clay, with the right thumb knuckle placed over the top of your left thumb knuckle, keeping your thumbs parallel to the floor. Press the top knuckle into the bottom in order to create a small divot in the top of the clay. Step 9: To make the opening for your bowl, plate or vase, the next stage is called drilling. Place your left thumb in the previously created divot and turn the wheel, waiting until your thumb is centered and not moving about. Use your right hand fingers to guide your left hand thumb down towards the bat. Step 10: Now is the time to form your pottery! Insert the middle finger of your left hand into the divot. Put your right hand over the top of your left hand and slowly pull the clay back towards you to create your desired shape. Step 11: Once you are satisfied with your desired shape, you can also add different elements including a lip or handle, depending on what you are creating. You can also use a wooden rib to clean the inside and outside of the pot. Step 12: To remove your pottery from the bat, place a taut wire on the far side of your piece and slowly slide the wire back towards you. When learning how to use a pottery wheel, it’s all about practice so stop by the streetside Bridge Tender House (Josephine Baker Pavilion) each Friday evening in February, 10, 17, and 24 from 7–9pm to get in touch with your inner Demi Moore, because you just might find a new love and hobby. Your first effort may not be perfect, but the more time and patience you use, the more successful you will be.
