- Discover The Profound Relationship Between Mental Health And Spirituality
Discover The Profound Relationship Between Mental Health And Spirituality February 6, 2025 Share Spirit is pure source energy, untarnished by restrictive, limited beliefs, judgment, thoughts, or attitudes, explains Sherianna Boyle, a psychic healer and coach since 2002. “Spirit is also inextricably linked to our very earthly human emotions. When we block, control, or constrict our emotions, we in turn prohibit the innate wisdom of Spirit to help and heal us,” Boyle said. “Instead, imagine a mindful practice, one that could allow us to receive healing, guidance, wisdom, clarity, and reassurance anytime we need it.” Boyle, the bestselling author of Emotional Detox and host of the popular podcast Just Ask Spirit, knows this is what is possible when emotions and spirit unify. In her new book, Just Ask Spirit: Free Your Emotions to Energize Intuition and Discover Purpose, readers will discover how asking Spirit connects with psychology and the science of emotions. Using her easily accessible, tried-and-true Cleanse system to process emotions, readers will learn how to fully receive Spirit, and grow in relationship with it, activating healing and clarity. Through helpful exercises, readers can acquire tools and techniques that they can apply to all aspects of their lives, giving them an inner roadmap for building resiliency, overcoming obstacles, and developing intuition. Forget the plain vanilla buses of yesterday – BCT is turning heads with eye-catching wraps that celebrate everything from holidays to hometown sporting heroes. This innovative approach isn't just about aesthetics; it's about forging deeper connections with the people BCT serves. "Broward County Transit (BCT) is deeply committed to celebrating diversity and fostering a sense of community," said Coree Cuff Lonergan, CEO/General Manager. "We showcase this commitment by wrapping our buses for major events like Juneteenth, the Panthers' Championship Run, and Pride. These initiatives enhance the rider experience while demonstrating our support for the vibrant communities we serve." Pop-Up Park & Ride: Taking Fans to Victory Lane BCT's innovative Pop-Up Park & Ride service wasn't just about shuttles; it was about creating a seamless fan experience. Specially wrapped buses, emblazoned with Florida Panthers Pride, became an extension of the team spirit. This convenient and affordable option not only reduced traffic congestion around Amerant Bank Arena, but also offered a sustainable way to cheer on the Cats. Coree Cuff Lonergan, CEO/General Manager of BCT, summed it up perfectly: "We were thrilled to be part of the Panthers' Historic Run. Our wrapped buses added to the electric atmosphere and, more importantly, provided a hassle-free way for fans to experience these unforgettable moments." Celebrating Champions: A Parade Fit for Royalty BCT didn't stop after the final buzzer. To ensure fans could celebrate the Panthers' Historic NHL Championship win in style, BCT offered special bus services for the Championship Parade. These frequent shuttles allowed the community to come together and showcase their Panther pride without the worry of parking or traffic woes. This commitment to enhancing the fan experience went beyond transportation; it was about creating a hassle-free way for the community to join the celebration. BCT's partnership with the Florida Panthers is a shining example of how a public transit agency can go beyond its core function to become a true community champion. Cheering for Cricket: World Cup Transportation BCT's commitment to supporting local and international sports events was also evident during the Cricket World Cup, which was hosted in Broward County. A specially wrapped bus celebrated the excitement of the Cricket World Cup, providing fans with a vibrant and convenient transportation option to attend the games. This initiative celebrated Cricket within the community and showcased BCT's dedication to creating enjoyable and accessible experiences for all attendees. Beyond the Bus: BCT's Broader Impact BCT's commitment extends far beyond transportation solutions. Events like the Stonewall Wilton Manors Pride Parade, supported by BCT, generate significant social and economic benefits. The Pride Parade, attracting over 50,000 attendees, contributed an estimated $6 Million to the local economy. BCT's colorful and inclusive bus wraps played a vital role in the vibrancy and success of these events. Celebrating Freedom: Juneteenth on Wheels BCT's deep community engagement was evident during the recent Juneteenth Celebration held at the Lauderhill Transit Center (LTC). A unique exhibition transformed a bus into a moving museum adorned with vibrant Juneteenth imagery. This immersive experience educated attendees about the historical significance of Juneteenth, the day marking the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Over a hundred community members, including families and children, participated in the event. The Juneteenth bus served as a backdrop for crafting activities and coloring pages, fostering a deeper understanding of the day's importance. The enthusiastic participation and impressive turnout testified to the event's success. - Florida Property Taxes: A Quick Introduction For New Owners
Florida Property Taxes: A Quick Introduction For New Owners By Christopher Carter - Real Estate Broker Associate November 17, 2023 Share Now that it is November, Florida Property Taxes can start being paid, with full payment for the Annual Tax Bill you just received due by March 31st, 2024. You will receive variable discounts for paying them anytime between now and the end of March: November - 4% discount, December - 3%, January - 2%, February - 1%, and March - no discount. Property Taxes are paid in arrears, which means that the TRIM (Truth In Millage) notice you received in late August and the Property Tax Bill you recently received are for the current year that started last January 1st. Real Estate Property Taxes are paid to the taxing authority in which the property is located. This is because the local municipality directly provides the services that benefit all property owners. Property Taxes pay for Municipal Services that can include: • Local Government Administration and Operation • Public Road Maintenance, Street Lighting • School District Staff, Administration and Buildings • Water Management Districts • Police and Fire Departments, other First Responder Services • Trash and Recycling Pickup • Other Costs of Operating and Maintaining Public Infrastructure The majority of Property Tax Line Items are Ad Valorem, which means they are calculated on the current value of the property. Properties of higher value end up paying more in Property Taxes, lower-valued properties pay less in taxes. The current Assessed Value of the property is multiplied by a Millage Rate in order to get the amount of Tax due. The Millage Rate represents each property owner's portion of the costs for providing services like the ones mentioned above. Assessed Value (less any exemptions) X Millage Rate = Annual Property Tax Due Every year, as properties are sold and change owners, the County's Property Appraiser's Office re-establishes all properties' Assessed Value, which is based on the most recent sale prices and local market factors. Assessed values are adjusted annually to include neighborhood and community sales trends in addition to individual property specifics. The County Appraiser's Office does not send out Tax Bills. They provide each property's Assessed Value to the County Tax Collector who (as the name implies) mails bills to property owners and collects the Tax amount. It is fairly safe to say that the new Assessed Value for a property that was sold in the past year will be pretty close to its recent purchase price. When a property changes owners, the Appraiser's Office is required to remove any exemptions (like Homestead) the previous owner had, and reassess the property to its Just Value (Market Value). These adjustments become effective for the next tax year. County Appraiser's Offices don't only wait for an individual property to sell before they reconsider its value for Tax purposes. Each year they look at local Real Estate Market trends and neighborhood sales prices to arrive at Assessed Values that will apply to all houses, condos, and undeveloped lots in the County even if a specific one has not changed owners recently. Updates, upgrades, and renovations also add to a property's Assessed Value. Through Permit Applications filed with the Building Department, the Appraiser's Office stays current on improvements and additions made to specific properties. Properties undergoing major renovation, as well as new construction in your neighborhood or community can factor into the Assessed Value for all nearby properties. When a house or condo is sold, that Tax year's Property Taxes are prorated between seller and buyer according to their closing date. In Florida, the Property Tax year is the calendar year. Sellers are responsible for paying the Taxes for their time of ownership, buyers will owe from the closing date forward. When closing occurs before the seller has paid that year's Property Taxes, the Closing Title Company or Attorney charges the seller for Taxes owed from January 1st up to the closing date. That seller's portion of Property Taxes is credited to the buyer, who is then responsible for paying the entire bill when it comes due later in the year. Important for buyers in the above scenario - when you receive the Full Purchase-Year Tax Bill, remember that you have already received the seller's portion of the Property Taxes! When closing occurs after the seller has already paid the entire year's Property Taxes (some November and December closings), the seller will receive a credit at closing from the buyer for the days remaining after the closing date through the end of the year. The buyer reimburses the seller for having already paid the entire Tax Bill which included the buyer's portion of Property Taxes. Property Tax Debt and Liability attach to the property, not the owner. Whoever owns the property is responsible for paying the bill. Unpaid Property Taxes will result in a Municipal Lien against the property, which means it cannot be sold until someone (it doesn't matter who) pays the Taxes. That's it for now. I am keeping this edition on the shorter side because there are additional parts of the Florida Property Tax discussion to address in an upcoming edition. These include: • Escrowing for Property Taxes with Mortgage Financing • Florida Homestead Exemptions for Permanent Residents • New buyer "sticker shock" on the Re-Assessed Value and Tax Bill • TRIM Notices • Petitioning the Value Adjustment Board to modify Assessed Value Watch for a follow-up edition on these in the next few weeks... - Easy Ways to Enhance Digestive Health
Easy Ways to Enhance Digestive Health (Family Features) January 20, 2022 Share As your social schedule picks up steam and you attend more social gatherings and celebrations, you may find yourself with an unexpected issue: digestive troubles. Problems like this can have a negative impact on your overall wellness, so it's important to make healthy digestion a priority. According to Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of how to live long and be healthy, the health of the digestive system is the core of optimum health. Ayurvedic medicine asserts the digestive system is based on the strength and balance of its Agni (fire), which enables the body to absorb, digest and assimilate food. The teachings suggest an imbalanced Agni creates undigested residues, which form toxins that create imbalances and can lead to disease. Some of the dietary guidelines for healthy digestion and strong Agni include: • Allowing 4-6 hours between meals • Avoiding eating between meals • Avoiding foods with cold, wet and heavy qualities • Drinking ginger tea or hot water to stimulate the Agni • Starting a meal with pungent (hot), sour and salty flavors • Consuming a small amount of bitter taste before a meal to increase the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach Take steps to protect and nurture your digestive health with these tips: Add Fiber to Your Diet Plant-based foods that are high in fiber fill you up faster, so you're less likely to overeat, and they also help with digestive regularity. Increase your intake of high-fiber foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds. Take a gradual approach to avoid upsetting your digestive tract and bump up your water intake as you go since fiber will absorb it and decrease the likelihood you experience gas or cramping. Stay Hydrated Keeping your body well hydrated is like making sure your car's engine is well lubricated. It keeps all your moving parts in sync and operating for top performance. Some fluids can also help with detoxification, which can be especially beneficial when your social calendar is full and your opportunities to overindulge are greater. An option like Buddha Teas' Detox Dharma contains detoxifying herbs that stimulate your digestive system. Strengthening and soothing herbs are also incorporated into this balanced formula resulting in an effective yet gentle detox tea. For another solution, Turmeric Ginger Tea contains enough black pepper to make curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) bio-available in hot water, helping build healthy Agni. Eat Slower In today's busy world, it's easy to scarf down a meal in record time. However, slowing down gives your body more time to process food. You'll give your brain more time to communicate with your stomach and be more aware of when you've satisfied your hunger. Start Exercising If you need one more reason to get moving, your digestive health could be it. Regular physical activity promotes better digestion. However, if you jump into a workout too quickly after eating, you could actually do the opposite. Eat light before exercising then have a protein-rich balanced meal for recovery afterward. Manage Stress Too much stress can manifest multiple physical problems, including interrupting your digestion. Try mindful meditation or another method of relaxing and relieving stress. Getting plenty of rest can also help keep stress in check. If you're looking for a good night of sleep, consider Buddha Teas' CBD Sleepy Buddha Blend. Herbs for calming and relieving stress are paired with organic, water-soluble, THC-free CBD to leave you feeling restored and rejuvenated. Oren Gershgorin and Diane Hatcher, who run the medical center, offer payment plans for any customer who cannot immediately afford the necessary equipment. “We don’t turn away any customers,” said Hatcher, who has been working in the medical industry for 30 years. “We work with anyone who truly needs our equipment.” And with the Holidays just passed, Gershgorin and Hatcher are still offering a variety of discounts and specials for those looking to make a difference for their loved ones. “I love working here because people come in and they’re in pain and we can actually give them peace of mind or relief. It’s such a good feeling to be able to give people something that can make their day better,” said Hatcher. From the moment you enter the Broward Medical Supply store, you are immediately greeted by the warm reception of both Hatcher and Gershgorin, who you may find carefully assisting customers or inspecting inventory, making sure that the store and supplies are organized and available for rent or purchase. The swivel chair holds up to 300 lbs, has a redesigned swivel and bearing mechanism for added strength and stability, and swivels 360 degrees for added comfort. Broward Medical offers them at a significantly lower price than online retailers and will provide a variety of payment opportunities. Compression stockings are also a top seller. These special stockings are used to relieve swelling and take pressure off the legs. Available in knee- high, thigh-high and waist-high lengths, custom fit, or ready to wear, this product is especially useful to those who suffer from edema, varicose veins, skin ulcers and deep vein thrombosis. And if you happen to buy a product that doesn’t quite suit or fit you, then you can rest assured knowing that Hatcher and Gershgorin will go above and beyond to rectify the problem. “We got a couple of people who bought stockings and it just didn’t fit right, so we sent it back to the company. No questions asked. We make it happen,” said Hatcher, “We make sure that customers are happy with what they buy. If they don’t like it, we make it right for them.”This level of customer service is available in part due to the strong relationships that Hatcher has developed with representatives over the years. “Our representatives from every company are really nice and I’ve dealt with them for many years, so they know what kind of service we provide.” They’re all willing to help us ensure customers are not stuck with a product they don’t want,” said Hatcher. In the case that you do not know what you are looking for, the professional staff at Broward medical is always willing to assist in identifying the best products for your needs. - A Dedicated Public Servant: Hallandale Beach Has Lost One of Its Heroes
A Dedicated Public Servant: Hallandale Beach Has Lost One of Its Heroes By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper September 2, 2021 Share Bill with his mother Elise was a long-time fan of car racing, he proudly showcased his shiny red 1986 Corvette in local car shows Last Tuesday, Hallandale Beach lost another great Hero, Vice Mayor, Friend, Veteran and Dedicated Public Servant, Vice Mayor William ‘Bill” Julian. I first met Bill at a Crime Watch Meeting. As a long resident for years, he had decided to give back to the city and get involved in community service. During that time, former Mayor Joe Scavo, who was a retired New York Police Officer, was encouraging Bill to get involved and run for office. We had some great volunteers at that time in The Crime Watch. Chief Lawrence Faragher was our current Chief and Assistant, Chief Tom Magill, who later became Chief, had started a strong commitment, to address the rampant drug dealing, that was taking place in our city. The multi-pronged approach, included reestablishing the Crime Watch. Bill stepped up and became the President of The Crime Watch. Bill was also there to volunteer. He was an active member of The Crime Watch and later in 2001, he was elected to the Commission. In addition to The Crime Watch, Bill was also volunteering and working for the most vulnerable and underserved in the City. Chief Tom Magill, began our PAL Program, which is still going strong today. Bill and the entire Commission, were so excited to make sure our kids had a safe place to play and grow. We all got involved in Hope For The Holidays, Shop With A Cop, Poker Nights, etc. You name it, Bill was always there, with a helping hand. He also became involved in Kiwanis. He hosted A Pasta Dinner Annually, to raise funds for both organizations. In addition to The Crime Watch, PAL and The Kiwanis, Bill also volunteered with the Future Foundation. The Future Foundation, was established to support arts and cultural activities for our children. This program was run by a group of volunteers, from the City and Local Businesses. We held fundraisers, two concerts and provided grants to our Schools and Non-Profit Organizations. It was a shame, that negative politics had started to cast unfound attacks, on the good works of this group. Bill’s work did not stop there. He was a fixture at The Hallandale Beach Food Pantry, run by Paul Snow. He would do food pick up deliveries weekly and at one time, the pantry was up to two hundred turkeys, a year. Bill was also a Friend of The Hallandale POPS. He helped raise funds and attended concerts when he could. He also worked on The Cancer Society, Jail and Bail and when we held it, The Relay for Life. He also was a proud member of The Italian American Club, as well. As a Veteran Of The US Air Force and son of a WWII Hero, Bill was truly committed to supporting our Veterans. He was Commander Of The American Legion Post, right here, in Hallandale Beach. During our Memorial Day Services, Bill took great pride in displaying our Local Veteran’s History. He created tributes to them, complete with plane pictures and other items. Our History, would not be the same, if it was not for Bill. He championed our Historical Commission and worked with one of the daughters, of our founding Curci Family, to ensure that the Curci House and Village, were preserved. Bill also brought forward, on behalf of The Community Civic Association, The Renaming Of 8th Avenue to: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. He also worked to expand the MLK Parade to Hallandale Beach Boulevard. We always walked, side by side, along the route. He also worked outside of the City. When Hurricane Katrina hit, he participated, in a relief trip. He helped another Florida City, that was in financial difficulty, with the donation, of a used fire truck, that we were going to dispose of. On a personal note, Bill was a Dear Friend. My children grew up knowing him and he shared many family events. My Dad and Mom, also enjoyed seeing Bill on their visits, in the winter. After his Dad’s death, Bill was a devoted son. He was always by his Mother's side. He cared for many of our old single woman friends. He was always driving, Former Mayor Dottie Ross and Vice Mayor, Fran Schiller to events and conferences. He had one surviving Cousin, Steve Padovano. Sadly, Steve’s wife, recently passed away. Over the recent years with his health failing, I know he was disappointed, that I did not encourage him to run again for office. With his poor health and the continued stresses, of his Diabetes, I truly did not think it was wise. I encouraged him to continue to Volunteer, enjoy his life, his cars and focus on what should have been his top priority, his health. The last time we spoke, he wanted to get better and start back at the track, doing early morning horse walking. Service, however was in his DNA and one of his last FB comments, was that, he was running for Office, again. As friends, we enjoyed the best of times and the worst of times. I believe that is what life is about. Hallandale Beach, caring for others and helping those in need, were Bills passion. He was a true public servant and Hallandale Beach, has lost one of its Heroes. As of the writing of this article, the goal is to have a double brick dedicated, in his honor at our Veterans Memorial located at City Hall. If all goes as planned, it will be on Wednesday, September 29th, 2021 around 5:00 p.m. Please follow my FB page for updates. A church service, may be held at St. Matthew's Church, this Friday, September 3rd, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., but this is dependent, upon on the receipt, of his ashes.
