- A New State Of Segregation: Vaccine Cards Are Just The Beginning
A New State Of Segregation: Vaccine Cards Are Just The Beginning By John W. Whitehead & Nisha Whitehead August 12, 2021 Share “Yes, COVID-19 has taken a significant toll on the nation emotionally, physically and economically, but, there are still greater dangers on the horizon.” John W. Whitehead “The things we were worried would happen, are happening.”—Angus Johnston, professor at the City University of New York. Imagine it: a national classification system, that not only categorizes you according to your health status, but also allows the government to sort you, in a hundred other ways: by gender, orientation, wealth, medical condition, religious beliefs, political viewpoint, legal status, etc. This is the slippery slope, upon which we are embarking, one that begins with Vaccine Passports and ends with a National System Of Segregation. It has already begun. With every passing day, more and more private businesses and government agencies, on both the state and federal levels, are requiring proof of a COVID-19 Vaccination, in order for individuals to work, travel, shop, attend school and generally, participate in, the life of the country. No matter what one’s views may be, regarding the government’s handling of the COVID-19 Pandemic, this is an unnerving proposition, for a country that claims to prize the rights of the individual and whose Bill of Rights was written in such a way, as to favor the rights of the minority. By allowing government agents to establish a litmus test, for individuals to be able to engage in commerce, movement and any other right, that corresponds to life in a supposedly, free society, it lays the groundwork for a “show me your papers” society, in which, you are required to identify yourself, at any time to any government worker, who demands it, for any reason. Such tactics, can quickly escalate into a power-grab that empowers government agents to force anyone and everyone, to prove that they are in compliance with every statute and regulation, on the books. Mind you, there are thousands of statutes and regulations, on the books. Indeed, in this era of over-criminalization, it is estimated, that the average American, unknowingly, breaks, at least, three laws a day. This is also how the right to move about freely has been undermined, overtaken and rewritten into a privilege, granted by the government, to those citizens, who are prepared to toe the line. It used to be that, “we the people” had the right to come and go as we please, without the fear of being stopped, questioned by police or forced to identify ourselves. In other words, unless the police had a reasonable suspicion, that a person was guilty of wrongdoing, they had no legal authority to stop the person and require identification. Unfortunately, in this age of COVID-19, that unrestricted right to move about freely is being pitted against the government’s power to lock down communities at a moment’s notice. In this tug-of-war, between individual freedoms and government power, “we the people,” have been on the losing end, of the deal. Now Vaccine Passports, Vaccine Admission Requirements and travel restrictions, may seem like small, necessary steps, in winning the war against the COVID-19 Virus, but, that’s just, so much propaganda. They’re only necessary to the police state, in its efforts, to further brainwash the populace, into believing that the government, legitimately has the power to enforce such blatant acts of authoritarianism. This is how you imprison a populace and lock down a nation. It makes no difference, if such police state tactics, are carried out in the name of national security or protecting America’s borders and making America healthy again: the philosophy remains the same, it is a mindset and it is not friendly, to freedom. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t live in a constitutional republic, if you allow the government to act, like a police state. You can’t claim to value freedom, if you allow the government, to operate, like a dictatorship. You can’t expect to have your rights respected, if you allow the government to treat whomever it pleases with disrespect and an utter disregard, for the rule of law. If you’re tempted to justify these draconian measures for whatever reason—for the sake of health concerns, the economy or national security, beware, there’s always, a boomerang effect. Whatever dangerous practices you allow the government to carry out now, rest assured, these same practices can and will be used against you, when the government decides, to set its sights, on you. The war on drugs turned out to be a war on the American people, waged with SWAT teams and militarized police. The war on terror turned out to be a war on the American people, waged with warrantless surveillance and indefinite detention, for those who dare to disagree. The war on immigration, turned out to be a war on the American people, waged with roving government agents demanding “papers, please.” This war on COVID-19 is turning out to be yet another war on the American people, waged with all of the surveillance weaponry and tracking mechanisms, at the government’s disposal. You see, when you talk about empowering government agents to screen the populace in order to control and prevent the spread of this virus, what you’re really talking about, is creating a society in which ID cards, round ups, checkpoints and detention centers, become routine weapons, used by the government to control and suppress the populace, no matter, what the threat is. No one is safe or immune. And as I illustrate in my new novel, The Erik Blair Diaries, no one gets spared the anguish, fear and heartache of living in a police state. That’s the message being broadcast 24/7 with every new piece of government propaganda, every new law that criminalizes otherwise lawful activity, every new policeman on the beat, every new surveillance camera, casting a watchful eye, every sensationalist news story that titillates and distracts, every new prison or detention center, built to house troublemakers and other undesirables, every new court ruling that gives government agents, a green light to strip, steal. rape and ravage the citizenry, at every school that opts to indoctrinate rather than educate, every new justification for why, Americans should comply with the government’s attempts to trample on the Constitution, underfoot. Yes, COVID-19 has taken a significant toll on the nation: emotionally, physically and economically, but, there are still greater dangers, on the horizon. As long as “we the people,” continue to allow the government to trample our rights, in the so-called name of national security, things will get worse, not better and it's already worse. We’ve been having this same debate about the perils of government overreach, for the past 50-plus years, still we don’t yet seem to learn, or if we learn, we learn, too late. Curiously enough, these COVID-19 Mandates, Restrictions and Vaccine Card Requirements, dovetail conveniently with a national timeline for states to comply with the Real ID Act, which imposes federal standards on identity documents, such as state drivers’ licenses and a prelude, to a national identification system. Talk about a perfect storm for bringing about a national ID card, the ultimate, human tracking device. In the absence of a national ID card, which would make the police state’s task of monitoring, tracking and singling out individual suspects, are far simpler, than, “we the people” are already being tracked, in a myriad of ways: through our state driver’s licenses, Social Security numbers, bank accounts, purchases and electronic transactions; biometrics; by way of our correspondence and communication devices (email, phone calls and mobile phones); through chips implanted in our vehicles, identification documents and even, in our clothing. Add to this, the fact that businesses, schools and other facilities, are relying more and more on fingerprints and facial recognition to identify us. All the while, data companies such as Acxiom, are capturing vast caches of personal information to help airports, retailers, police and other government authorities, to instantly determine whether someone is the person, that he or she, claims to be. This informational glut — used to great advantage by both the government and corporate sectors, has converged into a mandate for “an internal passport,” a.k.a., a national ID card that would store information as basic, as a person’s name, birth date and place of birth, as well as private information, including a Social Security number, fingerprint, retinal scan, personal, criminal and financial records. A federalized, computerized, cross-referenced, databased system of identification policed by government agents, would be the final nail in the coffin, for privacy (not to mention, a logistical security nightmare that would leave Americans, even more vulnerable to every hacker, in the cybersphere). Americans have always resisted adopting a national ID card for good reason: National ID card systems have been used before, by other oppressive governments, in the name of national security, invariably with horrifying results. After all, such a system gives the government and its agents, the ultimate power to target, track and terrorize the populace, according to the government’s own, nefarious purposes. For instance, in Germany, the Nazis required all Jews to carry special stamped ID cards for travel within the country. A prelude to the yellow Star of David badges, these stamped cards, were instrumental in identifying Jews for deportation, to death camps in Poland. Author Raul Hilberg, summarizes the impact that such a system had, on the Jews: The whole identification system, with its personal documents, specially assigned names, conspicuous tagging in public, was a powerful weapon in the hands, of the police. First, the system was an auxiliary device, that facilitated the enforcement of residence and movement restrictions. Second, it was an independent control measure, in that it enabled the police to pick up any Jew, anywhere, anytime. Third and perhaps most important, identification, had a paralyzing effect, on its victims. In South Africa during apartheid, pass books were used to regulate the movement of black citizens and segregate the population. The Pass Laws Act of 1952 stipulated where, when and for how long a black African, could remain in certain areas. Any government employee, could strike out entries, which cancelled the permission to remain in an area. A pass book that did not have a valid entry, resulted in the arrest and imprisonment, of the bearer. Identity cards, have played a crucial role in the genocide of the Tutsis in the central African country of Rwanda. The assault, carried out by extremist Hutu militia groups, lasted around 100 days and resulted in close to a million deaths. While the ID cards, were not a precondition to the genocide, they were a facilitating factor. Once the genocide began, the production of an identity card with the designation “Tutsi,” spelled a death sentence, at any roadblock. Identity cards have also helped oppressive regimes carry out eliminationist policies, such as mass expulsion, forced relocation and group denationalization. Through the use of identity cards, Ethiopian authorities were able to identify people with Eritrean affiliation, during the mass expulsion of 1998. The Vietnamese government, was able to locate ethnic Chinese, easier, during their 1978-79 expulsion. The USSR used identity cards to force the relocation of ethnic Koreans (1937), Volga Germans (1941), Kamyks and Karachai (1943), Crimean Tartars, Meshkhetian Turks, Chechens, Ingush and Balkars (1944) and ethnic Greeks (1949). The ethnic Vietnamese were identified for group denationalization through identity cards in Cambodia in 1993, as were the Kurds, in Syria, in 1962. In the United States, post-9/11, more than 750 Muslim men, were rounded up on the basis of their religion and ethnicity, detained for up to eight months. Their experiences, echo those of 120,000 Japanese-Americans, who were similarly detained 75 years ago, following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Despite a belated apology and monetary issuance by the U.S. government, the U.S. Supreme Court, has yet to declare such an illegal practice. Moreover, laws such as the National Defense Authorization Act, (NDAA) empower the government to arrest and indefinitely, detain anyone they “suspect,” of being an enemy, of the state. At some point, it will not matter, whether your skin is black or yellow or brown or white. It will not matter, whether you’re an immigrant or a citizen. It will not matter, whether you’re rich or poor. It won’t even matter, whether you’ve been Properly Medicated, Vaccinated or Indoctrinated. Government jails will hold you, just as easily, whether you’ve obeyed every law or broken, a dozen. Government bullets will kill you, just as easily, whether you’re complying with a police officer’s order or questioning his tactics. Whether or not, you’ve done anything wrong, government agents, will treat you like a suspect, simply because they have been trained to view and treat everyone, like potential criminals. Eventually, as I make it clear in my book, Battlefield America: The War on the American People, when the police state has turned that final screw and slammed that final door, all that will matter, is whether or not, a government agent, chooses to single you out, for special treatment. < Previous News Next News >
- Longevity Through Love: Doctors Reveal Ways to Turn Back the Hands of Time
Longevity Through Love: Doctors Reveal Ways to Turn Back the Hands of Time August 1, 2024 Share Can people live longer by cultivating healthy relationships? A Harvard study conducted over a period of 80 years confirmed that the most important factor in longevity after age 50 is the quality of personal relationships, and here to help people turn back the hands of time are Barbara Grossman, Ph.D., and Michael Grossman, M.D. The two have been married for more than 50 years, and in their book, Ageless Love: the Sexy Science of Falling in Love Forever, they help couples grow and nurture an intense, passionate love that lasts while navigating the inevitable challenges that all couples encounter. “Once you have a defined connection, there are expectations, and there’s a desire for ongoing connection,” Dr. Barbara Grossman said. “You have to stay tuned in to each other to know when things need to change.” Ageless Love is filled with practical wisdom based on the doctors’ 37-plus years of clinical practice. The doctors share their insights to clarify and enlighten readers regarding: • How to work with, not against, the inevitable stages of love. • Strategies that balance both security and mystery in romance. • Clear prescriptions for specific skills that create passionate, romantic love. • Prescriptions from the latest medical science for your body’s vitality at any age. • How meditation and forgiveness open the heart and nurture “ageless love.” Dr. Michael Grossman recently released his new book, Secrets to Deep & Effortless Meditation, to build upon the meditation insights they share in Ageless Love. Based on Jewish Kabbalah, Secrets to Deep & Effortless Meditation is essential for those who have been unsuccessful in experiencing deep peace in meditation. It presents an inspiring view of the practice and value of meditation and describes how to deal with all experiences that can arise in meditation and how to allow the process to unfold into deep peace. “Modern life is filled with busyness, which was not present 50 years ago. Computers, cell phones, and both parents working create huge amounts of stress and anxiety,” Dr. Michael Grossman said. “Meditation is necessary to live a healthy and joyful life, filled with peace, love, and creativity.” The Authors Michael J. Grossman, M.D., has been a board-certified family physician from 1976 to 2015 and a fellow of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine since 2009. - What Do You Say When You Talk To Yourself? | sun-times
What Do You Say When You Talk To Yourself? By Bryan Golden Aug 13, 2025 You Have Just Completed A Major Work Project Before The Deadline. Having Worked Diligently And Spending Your Own Time, You’re Proud Of The Results And Can’t Wait To Impress Your Boss. You Showed Him The Project And He Immediately Begins To Criticize It And You. The Criticism Is Completely Unwarranted. What Do You Say To Yourself? “I’ve Failed Again” Or “He Must Be Having A Bad Day, I know I Did An Excellent Job”? You’ve thought of an innovative idea for a business that you really believe in. Excitedly, you tell your spouse who finds only faults with your idea. He tells you it’ll never work. Seeking another opinion, you confide in one of your closest friends. She has nothing positive to say either. What do you say to yourself? “Why can’t I ever come up with good ideas” or “I know my concept is good, I’m going to go with it”? You’re a volunteer at a civic organization. You make a suggestion for a fundraiser and the president of the organization tells you it’s a bad idea that won’t work. What do you say to yourself? “It’s no problem if they don’t like my ideas, I’ll still help anyway I can” or “If they don’t like my suggestion, they can do it themselves”? You help your neighbor move some furniture. Several months later, you ask them for help carrying some heavy items to the dumpster. He tells you he’s too busy and doesn’t have time. What do you say to yourself? “Fine, last time I helped him or anyone else” or “No big deal, I’ll ask one of my other friends to help?” There’s a job opening where you work. The position is something that you always wanted to do. It’s a great opportunity and would be a promotion. You’re not sure if you have enough experience. What do you say to yourself? “I’ll apply, I’ve got nothing to lose” or “Why bother applying, I’ve got no chance?” You can probably relate to one or more of these illustrations or have experiences that are similar in nature. Comments of all sorts are volunteered by everyone; friends, family, coworkers, bosses, acquaintances, and even strangers. People are constantly giving you their unsolicited opinions. There’s nothing you can do, it’s human nature. What’s important is what you say to yourself, not what others say to you. Without discrimination, your brain believes whatever you tell it and immediately goes to work figuring a way to make the statements happen. Your mind processes your self-talk 24 hours a day. Don’t say to yourself phrases you don’t want to come true. Tell yourself things that help rather than hurt you. You want to be saying things such as I can do this, I am capable, I’m a good person, I can learn what I need to know, I can make it work, and good things will be happening. Whatever it is that you say to yourself, you are right. Occasionally, I have a student tell me that he or she can’t do something. I tell them if that’s the way they feel, they are right. But if someone says, “I can do it,” they are also right. Remarking “I can’t do this” is different than saying “I need help” or “I don’t understand.” Asserting, “I can’t” is a final conclusion rather than making an effort to seek a solution. Be aware of and monitor what you say to yourself. Don’t tell yourself anything that’s not going to help and assist you in achieving a positive outcome. Always engage in positive self-talk. - Looking To Travel In 2026? - Your Next Trip Could Be Riskier Than You Think - Here's Why And How To Adapt | sun-times
Looking To Travel In 2026? - Your Next Trip Could Be Riskier Than You Think - Here's Why And How To Adapt By Christopher Elliott Jan 1, 2026 Colombia Has Been At The Top Of Seann Malloy's Bucket List For Years, So He Recently Started Planning A Solo Trip To Cartagena And Medellin. He Looked Forward To Sipping Tinto Coffee At A Cafe And Strolling The Beach At Playa Blanca. The destination seemed safe at first, but then came a U.S. State Department travel advisory warning of an increase in crime. And then he started to do more research, reading local crime reports and talking to Colombian expats on Reddit and Facebook. That's when he started to have second thoughts. "The tipping point was a pronounced surge in robbery and kidnapping of tourists in cities, much of which went unreported in the mainstream travel press," says Malloy, an attorney from Bethesda, Md. "I wondered: Would I feel safe walking alone at night, or taking a rideshare to a more casual location? The honest answer was no.” He canceled his trip. Malloy isn't alone. It's been a busy year for government travel warnings, but those notices don't address the personal risk factors to an individual traveler. And as a result, many travelers are wondering how to answer the question: Is the place I'm planning to visit safe? How do you determine if a destination is safe? As travelers start thinking about their 2026 trips, personal safety is coming into focus. Andrew Coggins, a Management and International Business Professor at Pace University, says determining how dangerous a place is can be tricky. It's a balance between your own risk tolerance and the conditions on the ground. But he says Malloy followed the right steps. "Some key indicators of dangerous destinations are unstable governments, civil unrest, and high crime," he explains. "These don't always get above the news radar, but watching and listening to vetted news sources with a global outlook can keep you abreast of what's going on around the world." Pro strategies for figuring out travel risk in 2026 Experts say travel next year will be fraught with risks, including crime to geopolitical turmoil. But there are ways to ensure you know the dangers before you commit to a trip. Cast a wide net. No single source is completely reliable, according to John Rose, Chief Risk Advisor for ALTOUR, a global corporate travel management company. "Safety is dynamic, so it’s essential to cross-reference data points, from crime trends to health infrastructure to geopolitical stability, rather than rely on a single source," he says. Check official and unofficial sources. Sure, the State Department is an official source, but don't stop there when looking for safety advice, says Harding Bush, Associate Director of Security Operations at Global Rescue. "To assess the safety of an international destination, start by examining the U.S. Department of State travel warnings and other countries’ travel ratings like the U.K. Foreign Commonwealth Office and Canadian travel advice and advisories," he says. Unofficial sources can be important as well, he notes. "Ask friends or colleagues who have recently visited the area whether it is considered stable, or if it is a conflict zone or near one, while also identifying any violent factions present.” Go social. "We always suggest monitoring the local consulates at your destination on Social Media, and do that prior to deciding on your trip," says John Gobbels, Chief Operating Officer of Medjet, a medical transport and security response membership program. "Most are very good about tweeting updates on everything from where protests might be happening, to upcoming strikes, areas to avoid and a lot of other general safety information." Gobbels says in an emergency, it’s often a source of real-time updates customized toward U.S. citizens. Be skeptical. "Crime statistics do not tell an accurate story as to safety in other countries," says Leonard Sipes, a Former Senior Specialist for Crime Prevention for the Department of Justice who now runs a site called Crime in America. His go-to resource for safety information abroad is the State Department Travel Advisories page. But again, don't rely on just one source. Watch for these red flags. Some signs should trigger an immediate cancellation, says Muhammed Fawas, a tour guide from Kerala, India, who regularly advises his clients on travel safety. "They include sudden government advisories or embassy evacuations, Social Media reports of unrest or large-scale protests, or insurance providers pulling coverage for a destination," he says. If you see those, it's time to rethink your travel plans. Beware of overly general advice. For example, last year, right at the start of Nepal’s peak travel season in late September, the southern part of the Kathmandu Valley experienced serious flooding. But it was in an area that tourists rarely visit, notes Naresh Dahal, Operations Manager at Everest Luxury Holidays, a tour operator. "Many travelers saw those news clips and assumed the entire country was unsafe," he says. "In reality, the actual trekking and cultural destinations remained completely unaffected." Look before you leap. Global volatility means more destinations can quickly shift in their risk profile. "We're seeing increased caution advised for areas impacted by geopolitical instability, rising crime rates, or active conflicts," notes Luis Ortega, Vice President of Risk Assessment for Allied Universal, a provider of private security services. For example, parts of the Caribbean, like Trinidad and Tobago and Mexico, can change at a moment's notice. Ortega says it's best to check before you travel, even if you did your research during the planning phase. One more thing: When you go abroad, consider registering for the State Department's STEP program, which will keep you informed if the security situation deteriorates. Risk is a personal decision As you look to your 2026 trips, beware of one-size-fits-all advice. For example, I interviewed travelers for this story who said they would never visit a communist country because they feel it's too dangerous. But I just visited Laos and China, and it was perfectly safe -- for me. The point is, risk is a personal decision, and the general advice experts will give you only provides a framework for making your choice. "Travelers can prioritize safety through thorough preparedness, taking proactive measures, and leveraging support where available," says Frank Harrison, Regional Security Director for the Americas at World Travel Protection. But the rest -- which includes some heavy lifting on research, contemplation and consulting with trusted sources -- is up to you. Determining the danger of a destination in 2026 hinges on more than government warnings or crime stats. It’s a mix of hyper-local insights, geopolitical awareness, and self-assessment. Experts stress that travelers must triangulate real-time Social Media updates, cross-border advisories, and on-the-ground expat accounts to navigate risks like sudden unrest or unreliable data. Even meticulous planning can’t guarantee your safety. Volatile regions demand last-minute reassessments, while personal comfort with uncertainty varies widely. The answer isn’t a list of “no-go” zones, but rather a framework for balancing curiosity with caution. Christopher Elliott is an Author, Consumer Advocate, and Journalist. - The Wearables Trap: How The Government Plans To Monitor, Score, And Control You | sun-times
The Wearables Trap: How The Government Plans To Monitor, Score, And Control You By John & Nisha Whitehead Jul 23, 2025 Bodily Autonomy—The Right To Privacy And Integrity Over Our Own Bodies—Is Rapidly Vanishing. We are entering a new age of algorithmic, authoritarian control, where our thoughts, moods, and biology are monitored and judged by the state. This is the dark promise behind the newest campaign by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, to push for a future in which all Americans wear biometric health-tracking devices. Under the guise of public health and personal empowerment, this initiative is nothing less than the normalization of 24/7 bodily surveillance—ushering in a world where every step, heartbeat, and biological fluctuation is monitored not only by private companies but also by the government. In this emerging surveillance-industrial complex, health data becomes currency. Tech firms profit from hardware and app subscriptions, insurers profit from risk scoring, and government agencies profit from increased compliance and behavioral insight. This convergence of health, technology, and surveillance is not a new strategy—it’s just the next step in a long, familiar pattern of control. Surveillance has always arrived dressed as progress. Every new wave of surveillance technology—GPS trackers, red light cameras, facial recognition, Ring doorbells, Alexa smart speakers—has been sold to us as a tool of convenience, safety, or connection. But in time, each became a mechanism for tracking, monitoring, or controlling the public. What began as voluntary has become inescapable and mandatory. The moment we accepted the premise that privacy must be traded for convenience, we laid the groundwork for a society in which nowhere is beyond the government’s reach—not our homes, not our cars, not even our bodies. RFK Jr.’s wearable plan is just the latest iteration of this bait-and-switch: marketed as freedom, built as a cage. According to Kennedy’s plan, which has been promoted as part of a national campaign to “Make America Healthy Again,” wearable devices would track glucose levels, heart rate, activity, sleep, and more for every American. Participation may not be officially mandatory at the outset, but the implications are clear: get on board, or risk becoming a second-class citizen in a society driven by data compliance. What began as optional self-monitoring tools marketed by Big Tech is poised to become the newest tool in the surveillance arsenal of the police state. Devices like Fitbits, Apple Watches, glucose trackers, and smart rings collect astonishing amounts of intimate data—from stress and depression to heart irregularities and early signs of illness. When this data is shared across government databases, insurers, and health platforms, it becomes a potent tool not only for health analysis—but for control. Once symbols of personal wellness, these wearables are becoming digital cattle tags—badges of compliance tracked in real time and regulated by algorithm. And it won’t stop there. The body is fast becoming a battleground in the government’s expanding war on the inner realms. The Infrastructure is already in place to profile and detain individuals based on perceived psychological “risks.” Now imagine a future in which your wearable data triggers a mental health flag. Elevated stress levels. Erratic sleep. A skipped appointment. A sudden drop in heart rate variability. In the eyes of the surveillance state, these could be red flags—justification for intervention, inquiry, or worse. RFK Jr.’s embrace of wearable tech is not a neutral innovation. It is an invitation to expand the government’s war on thought crimes, health noncompliance, and individual deviation. It shifts the presumption of innocence to a presumption of diagnosis. You are not well until the algorithm says you are. The government has already weaponized surveillance tools to silence dissent, flag political critics, and track behavior in real time. Now, with wearables, they gain a new weapon: access to the human body as a site of suspicion, deviance, and control. While government agencies pave the way for biometric control, it will be corporations—insurance companies, tech giants, employers—who act as enforcers for the surveillance state. Wearables don’t just collect data. They sort it, interpret it, and feed it into systems that make high-stakes decisions about your life: whether you get insurance coverage, whether your rates go up, whether you qualify for employment or financial aid. As reported by ABC News, a JAMA article warns that wearables could easily be used by insurers to deny coverage or hike premiums based on personal health metrics like calorie intake, weight fluctuations, and blood pressure. It’s not a stretch to imagine this bleeding into workplace assessments, credit scores, or even Social Media rankings. Employers already offer discounts for “voluntary” wellness tracking—and penalize nonparticipants. Insurers give incentives for healthy behavior—until they decide unhealthy behavior warrants punishment. Apps track not just steps, but mood, substance use, fertility, and sexual activity—feeding the ever-hungry data economy. We now face the quiet erosion of autonomy through the normalization of constant monitoring. We must ask: when surveillance becomes a condition of participation in modern life—employment, education, health care—are we still free? Or have we become, as in every great dystopian warning, conditioned not to resist, but to comply? That’s the hidden cost of these technological conveniences: today’s wellness tracker is tomorrow’s corporate leash. Once health tracking becomes a de facto requirement for employment, insurance, or social participation, it will be impossible to “opt out” without penalty. Those who resist may be painted as irresponsible, unhealthy, or even dangerous. This is not merely the expansion of health care. It is the transformation of health into a mechanism of control—a Trojan horse for the surveillance state to claim ownership over the last private frontier: the human body. Once biometric data becomes currency in a health-driven surveillance economy, it’s only a matter of time before that data is used to determine whose lives are worth investing in—and whose are not. This isn’t a left or right issue. The conquest of physical space—our homes, cars, public squares—is nearly complete. What remains is the conquest of inner space: our biology, our genetics, our psychology, our emotions. As predictive algorithms grow more sophisticated, the government and its corporate partners will use them to assess risk, flag threats, and enforce compliance in real time. The goal is no longer simply to monitor behavior but to reshape it—to preempt dissent, deviance, or disease before it arises. As I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People and in its fictional counterpart The Erik Blair Diaries, now is the time to draw the line—before the body becomes just another piece of state property.
