  • Babette In Coral Gables - A Culinary Couple’s Heartfelt Love Letter To Hospitality | sun-times

Babette In Coral Gables - A Culinary Couple’s Heartfelt Love Letter To Hospitality South Florida Sun Times Nov 5, 2025 Quietly Opening Earlier This Year, Babette Has Quickly Become A Beloved Culinary Gem For Those In The Know In Coral Gables, A City That, Like The Restaurant Itself, Is As Much A Tribute To Legacy As It Is To The Present Moment. Figuratively Speaking, Babette Is Rooted In Memory: The Culmination Of The Decades Chef And Co-Owner Daniel “Dani” Chávez-Bello Has Spent Time In Some Of The World’s Most Celebrated Kitchens. At its Heart, The Restaurant Is Both A Celebration Of A Life In Hospitality And A Love Letter To His Wife And Business Partner, Alexandra Oliveros Febres-Cordero. “Babette is a place that could not be, would not exist, if it weren’t for Alex and the journey we’ve made together,” says Chef Dani. “The very soul of the place is built on what we share - the life, the love, the family we’ve created. We opened Babette to set a table where others can feel that same sense of joy, comfort, and amor de la vida.” Babette presents a refined yet welcoming menu, where Mediterranean soul meets the precision of French technique, the vibrancy of Spanish cuisine, and unexpected Japanese influence. Every dish is rooted in ingredient purity and thoughtful simplicity, allowing flavors to shine without distraction. Dishes that have become signature must-tries include a sumptuous Crab Truffle Flan, a complex dish rich in flavor, bedrocked by chawanmushi, a Japanese steamed egg custard, that Dani fell in love with during his time overseas. Other notable selections include a visually striking and delicious warm Summer Vegetable Mosaic, an artful composition of organic carrots, radishes, snow peas, parsnip and carrot purée, pickled cauliflower, and baby zucchini; and Beet Tartare, a vegetarian spin on the carnivorous classic anchored by dashi and dressed with sherry and rosé vinegar. Equally compelling Entrees include housemade Cavatelli with tender lamb ragout, brightened with mint and paprika; a crisp Berkshire Pork Cutlet paired with rosemary apple purée, green asparagus, and earthy porcini; and the Magret de Canard – silky slices of duck served with kabocha squash, roasted endive heart, and a luscious zucchini-spinach purée. Among the current dessert offerings are a simple yet elegant Apple Mille-Feuille and Berries Pavlova. A full bar is available as well as an impressive wine list, curated with care by Dani himself, offering bottle selections and offerings by the glass for erudite oenophiles and budding enthusiasts alike. The decor is a seamless blend of timeless European elegance and modern chic, evoking a warm, inviting, and often candlelit/romantic atmosphere. Every detail from the vintage-inspired furnishings to the soft, ambient lighting evokes the charm of a cozy café on a quiet European street, while still embracing Miami’s joie de vivre. The intimate space accommodates 30 guests indoors, while a charming patio with seating for 20 offers a perfect outdoor dining experience under the Miami sky. Meanwhile, a secret stirs upstairs. Coming November 2025, The Romeo Room, an intimate escape draped in velvet and whimsy, where Victorian tea room elegance meets the allure of a modern speakeasy. Guests will be able to slip away into this intimate hideaway to enjoy thoughtfully crafted cocktails and a menu of curated bites, all served in a space designed to feel like a world apart. The backstory: Chef Dani’s journey to Babette began in Venezuela, learning to cook with his mother and making sandwiches with his father; these two experiences kick-started his passion for cooking and his lifelong love affair with Nutella. As a young man, seeking a posh professional life, he joined law school but soon discovered himself gravitating toward F&B when he decided, rather spontaneously, to open a café. His moneymaking endeavor soon became his raison d'être, and though he completed and graduated from law school, his true passion ultimately led him to pursue a life in the kitchen. In Barcelona, he won a national culinary competition and earned a scholarship to culinary school, training in world-renowned kitchens, including the genre-defying, trend-setting El Bulli, still considered to this day one of the most impactful restaurants in the history of modern gastronomy, widely considered the most influential restaurant of the modern era. At Can Ravell, he cooked for the King of Spain and helped Lluçanès earn a Michelin star, but it was joining legendary Chef/Restaurateur David Bouley that truly helped him blaze a path forward, working with the chef to open restaurants all over the world. In fact, Dani credits his time in Okinawa as a pivotal turning point in his life and career; it was there that he became acquainted with Blue Zones, a discovery that directly impacted how he approached cooking. In 2020, after a chance meeting as adults, he reconnected with Alexandra, the little sister of one of Dani’s school friends. And what began as a rekindled friendship soon blossomed into a love affair and a business partnership, which brought them to Miami, where Babette was born in 2025. A great deal of Babette’s allure is the product of Alexandra’s keen eye; a product designer by profession, with extensive experience in interior design and corporate image development, her undeniable sense of style is integral to the concept and complements Dani’s culinary prowess. In addition to leading Babette, Dani is also the Chief Culinary Officer at Epicured, where he leads menu development in collaboration with Epicured’s Partners in Health, furthering their mission to heal through food. This role reflects his passion for health-conscious, purposeful cuisine. Babette is located at 301 Alcazar Avenue, Coral Gables, Florida 33134. Hours of operation are Tuesday - Saturday, Lunch is from 12:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., Dinner is from 6:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. For more information and to make a reservation, visit: https://babettemiami.com . Guy Harvey Hooks World Premiere - At The 40th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival As Official Closing Night Film Gala South Florida Sun Times Feb 11, 2026 24–Time Emmy Award-Winning Director And Producer Nick Nanton—Dubbed “America’s Biographer” By Larry King—Along With Astonish Entertainment And Abundance Studios, Will Unveil The World Festival Premiere Of Guy Harvey At The 40th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF). The Film, An Awe-Inspiring Cinematic Portrait Of World-Renowned Marine Wildlife Artist, Scientist, Conservationist, Entrepreneur, And Educator Dr. Guy Harvey, Will screen Saturday, February 28th At 6:30 p.m. At The Museum Of Discovery And Science In Fort Lauderdale. The Screening Will Be Followed By A Q&A With The Cast And Crew. The Film Has Been Selected To Close Out The Prestigious Film Festival With A Celebratory Meet And Greet Event To Take Place Immediately After The Q&A At The Same Location. The Guy Harvey documentary explores how one man transformed his artistic gift into a global movement for ocean awareness. From painting marlin and sharks in the Caribbean to launching the Guy Harvey Foundation, a Non-Profit that collaborates with local, national and international organizations to conduct scientific research, provide funding to affiliated researchers, and develop cutting-edge educational programs for educators, Dr. Harvey’s journey intertwines art, adventure, and environmental activism in a breathtaking exploration of passion and purpose. Filmed across the Cayman Islands, Panama, California and Florida, the documentary features stunning underwater cinematography, exclusive interviews, and unprecedented access to Dr. Harvey’s creative and scientific world. “The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival is truly honored to host the world premiere of the Guy Harvey documentary. As the fishing capital of the world, Fort Lauderdale is the perfect home for a film that celebrates marine life, conservation, and the legacy of one of the most iconic ocean artists of our time,” said Lisa Grigorian, FLIFF President and CEO. The Guy Harvey documentary stars Dr. Guy Harvey, fellow artist and conservationist Robert Wyland, wildlife sculptor Kent Ullberg, photographer Jim Abernethy, Guy’s children, Alex and Jessica Harvey; along with dozens of other close friends and colleagues. The film is directed by Nick Nanton, edited by Nick Ruff and produced by Katie Tschopp. Director of photography is Kevin Sada and cinematographers include Carlo Alberto Orecchia, Mike Dunn, Nicolas Tschirhart, Brock Nanton, and Shawn Vela. The film is produced by Astonish Entertainment in association with DNA Films and Abundance Studios®, which is a collective of entrepreneurs, professionals, and philanthropists dedicated to creating and sharing media to foster a world of enlightened thinking and abundant action. “I applaud Nick Nanton and his team for artfully capturing and highlighting four decades of exploration, research, fishing, diving, education and conservation into such a powerful film about what has become, and still is, an unforgettable journey,” says Dr. Harvey. A Jamaican native, Dr. Guy Harvey developed an early reverence for the sea that went far beyond sport or spectacle - it became his language. Before his paintings ever hung in galleries or his art appeared on shirts, Dr. Harvey was a scientist in the truest sense: a diver, fish tagger, and chronicler of the untamed. His canvases were the meeting point of precision and wonder, each brushstroke a data point in a lifelong study of movement, color, and coexistence. Decades later, his work has transcended the walls of art and commerce to become a cultural shorthand for marine respect — an emblem of what it means to see the ocean not as a resource, but as a relationship. “I’ve grown up with Guy Harvey - the brand- being a part of everyday life. Literally every day I see someone wearing one of his signature shirts,” says Director Nick Nanton. “What I became enamored with was Dr. Guy Harvey the artist and his love for the ocean and incredible dedication to conservation through his research. Guy Harvey bridges worlds — he’s as much a scientist as he is an artist, and his work has changed how millions of people see the ocean. This film celebrates not just his achievements, but the movement he’s inspired to preserve our planet’s most vital resource,” says Nanton. Nick Nanton has built a career on transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary capturing the unseen drive behind icons, innovators, and world changers. Known throughout the industry for his precision, empathy, and editorial instinct, Nanton approaches every subject as both storyteller and architect, shaping narratives that linger long after the credits roll. His work bridges documentary filmmaking and social impact, blending the pacing of a Hollywood feature with the authenticity of real life. As the creative force behind Astonish Entertainment, he has carved out a signature style that’s equal parts cinematic craft and moral compass and the kind of filmmaking that doesn’t just observe its subjects, but amplifies their humanity. The film has just been completed with festival and broadcast premiere plans targeting major international documentary and environmental showcases before theatrical and streaming rollouts. • Make It Sweet Like Honey, Honey! High Holidays 101 | sun-times

Make It Sweet Like Honey, Honey! High Holidays 101 By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil Sep 18, 2025 “Shana Tova Umetuka” - “May You Have A Good And Sweet Year” Is What We Typically Wish Each Other In The Month Leading Up To The Jewish New Year, And I Bet You’ve Always Wondered Why We Give A Double Wish, That The Year Should Be Both Good And Sweet. If It's Good, Isn't It Sweet? It's Got To Be More Than Just Poetic. The Talmud teaches us that everything that happens in the world is for the good. And although many times it seems far from good, you should know that ultimately it somehow is for the good. We therefore wish each other, that not just should you have a good year, but also a sweet one. A year that is not just ultimately for the good, but rather one where the good is obvious to all. A year that is deliciously sweet! Many give each other tegalach, honey cookies or honey cake - known as lekach. In fact the Chassidic custom is to specifically ask someone (usually the rabbi, but not necessarily) for a piece of or a shtickel lekach. We hope and pray that if there's anything that we must ask or beg anyone for in the coming year, we should fulfill it with that ask. It is also the custom of eating sweet foods on Rosh Hashanah itself, especially an apple dipped in honey with a special prayer that G-d grant us a good & sweet year. The Challah is dipped in honey. A special dish known as Tzimmes is a European carrot concoction cooked in honey. As well as many other foods we eat with honey. My mother z'ls delicious tzimmes included Chuck fleisch and marrow bones and it was one of the most delicious dishes ever. Ah, good memories! Of course by now you surely know that the theme of honey throughout this season symbolizes the sweet year we all yearn for. But why specifically honey? Why not sugar, splenda or any other sweetener? For starters, Israel was blessed to be a land flowing with milk and honey! Eating honey, wherever we may be, reminds us of our ancient homeland and our deep connection to Israel. Have you ever seen an expiration date on honey? Honey can last for a really long time! A quick Google search will tell you that honey can last for centuries, but perhaps it can even last longer than that! Many times there are people that get blessings. They win the lottery or stumble across a treasure. But the blessings unfortunately don't always last and all their money can disappear as fast as it appeared or even worse, break families and friends apart. On Rosh Hashanah we pray that we not only get a blessed year, but that the blessing lasts. Furthermore, honey can be used as a preservative. When Adam and Eve, whose birthdays we celebrate on Rosh Hashanah, were created, they were commanded to work the earth and to guard it. To protect it and all that it contains. To preserve the world and constantly make it a better place. I wish each and every one of you a Shana Tova Umetuka! May you and your families be blessed with a Happy & Healthy, Good & Sweet New Year! May you be showered with blessings and may they last for a very long time! May you always be there for others! May you be a preservative for this beautiful world and help bring it to the perfection G-d has intended for it! May this year be your best year ever! This year we will celebrate Rosh Hashana 5786 beginning Monday evening, September 22nd, 2025 at sundown, and concluding Wednesday evening, September 24th, 2025 at nightfall. To learn more about Rosh Hashanah and the many customs associated with it visit: www.ChabadChayil.org/High-Holidays . You can also pick up a free holiday guide at Chabad Chayil's office or call us and we will be happy to email or mail it to you free of charge. I encourage you to attend your local Chabad or Synagogue to enjoy Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and all the high holidays to their fullest. Of course you can always join us at The Family Shul for services or holiday dinner, but you would need to RSVP in advance at: (305) 770-1919. Or: www.TheFamilyShul.com . The community dinner will of course include Apples Dipped in Honey, Traditional Round Challah, Gefilteh Fish, my mothers Tzimmes recipe, Kugel and all the delicious holiday foods! This is a good time to order your Lulav & Etrog set or reserve for any of the other holiday meals. We will have lunch and dinners served at Chabad during both days of Rosh Hashana, Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret & Simchat Torah. We will also have a meal Erev Yom Kippur and a Yom Kippur break-fast. The Chabad Chayil Sukkah will also be open to the public throughout the holiday. About the Author: Rabbi Kievman is the ambassador of The Rebbe to Highland Lakes, FL. He's founder of CHAP - an afterschool program for Jewish children in Public Schools, Gan Chabad Preschool, Rabbi at The Family Shul & together with his wife directs Chabad Chayil. • Breeze Into Summer With BCT - Just Try It! - See More. Spend Less. Let Us Be Your Tour Guide! | sun-times

Breeze Into Summer With BCT - Just Try It! - See More. Spend Less. Let Us Be Your Tour Guide! By Jose Paz, BCT Aug 12, 2025 There’s A Special Kind Of Energy In Broward When Summer Rolls Around. Maybe It’s The Golden Sunsets Over The Coast, The Sound Of Flip-Flops Hitting The Pavement, Or Just The Way The Air Feels Lighter When School’s Out And The Days Stretch Longer. Whatever It Is, It’s The Perfect Time To Grab Your Friends, Your Sunscreen, And Surprise Your BCT Pass! This summer, a group of five friends made a simple decision that changed the way they explored their county: they tried the bus. At first, it was about saving money. With gas prices high and rideshares adding up, they looked for a better way to get around. What they didn’t expect was that Broward County Transit would become part of the adventure. With just $2 for a one-way fare or affordable all-day passes, hopping on board gave them the freedom to roam without worrying about parking, traffic, or draining their wallets. One morning, they caught Route 11 headed east and rode it all the way to Fort Lauderdale Beach. Windows down, music in their ears, and laughter in the air, they were tourists in their own city. They grabbed iced coffees along Las Olas, laid out their towels under a shady palm, and watched the waves roll in. Later, they checked the real-time app, found the next bus, and decided to ride up to the Galleria Mall for an impromptu shopping stop. It wasn’t just a ride; it was an experience. The buses were clean and air-conditioned, the drivers welcoming, and the schedule surprisingly easy to navigate. By the end of the week, the group had a new routine. Sunrise at the beach. Midday markets. Sunset photo ops. And BCT was with them every step of the way. So, if you’ve never tried riding with BCT before, consider this your invitation: Just Try It. Let us show you that public transit isn’t just about getting from Point A to Point B; it’s about discovering what’s in between. Let this be the summer you explore more and spend less. Ride BCT! • Keller’s Korner - 2026 Cadillac Championship | sun-times

Keller’s Korner - 2026 Cadillac Championship By Neil Keller May 20, 2026 Welcome To Keller’s Korner. It Was Another Spectacular Cadillac Championship At The Trump National Doral In Miami, Florida. The Tournament Ran From April 30 Through The Final Round On May 3, 2026, Marking A Celebrated Return To A Venue Rich With History. From 2007 through 2016, the Cadillac Championship was held annually at the Doral before departing the site—only to make its long‑awaited comeback this year. The Trump Organization hosted the event, and with President Donald Trump, his family, and guests in attendance, the grounds featured a significant Secret Service presence throughout the weekend. During the final round, I spoke with Eric Trump, son of President Trump, and asked for his thoughts on the tournament. Eric responded, “This has been incredible. It is exciting with the best players in the world playing.” If this were the Olympics, it would have been an American sweep of the medals. Cameron Young, Scottie Scheffler, and Ben Griffin led the way, with many fans expecting Scheffler—the world’s #1 golfer—to take home the title. But Cameron Young ended all suspense early, winning wire‑to‑wire with a commanding six‑shot advantage. On Sunday, President Trump was on site, and the golfers were well aware of his presence, underscored by the heightened security around the course. After securing his victory, Cameron Young spoke about the experience. “He was just very complimentary,” Cameron told the media. “I’ve been fortunate to meet him before, and that’s especially with us golfers—it’s something he loves, and I think he appreciates how good everybody is on the PGA Tour. So, really just hugely complementary, and I, of course, thanked him for hosting us and that was about it.” He added, “It’s very unique. He’s a very, very interesting man. He’s very powerful, and it’s an honor to get to play in front of him. Hugely grateful to him and his family and his organization that has these beautiful properties and allows us to come and play great golf tournaments on them. This is a special place and a great championship golf course. I’m thankful to have it back in the schedule.” Spotlight on the Jewish Golfers As always, I make it a priority to highlight the Jewish athletes competing in sporting events. This year’s Cadillac Championship featured four Jewish golfers: Daniel Berger, Max Greyserman, Max Homa, and David Lipsky. Daniel Berger Daniel Berger, 33, grew up in Key Biscayne, Florida. At just 13 years old, he made a hole‑in‑one—an early sign of the talent that would carry him to four PGA Tour victories. Interestingly, Daniel never played for his high school (Dwyer High School) golf team in Palm Beach Gardens. I had the honor of speaking with his father, Jay Berger, who was watching his son at the golf tournament. Jay was a former world‑class tennis player who reached a career‑high ranking of #7 in 1990. I asked Jay who first introduced Daniel to golf. “That was me,” Jay said. “We expressed our desire for him to go for it as a career. He started playing golf at the age of 11 in Key Biscayne.” Jay added proudly, “He is a great kid.” Daniel finished the tournament at 6 under, tying for 23rd place. Max Greyserman Max Greyserman, 30, grew up in New Jersey and now resides in Palm Beach Gardens. He has one professional win so far and interviewing him was a pleasure—especially when I noticed the belt he was wearing, decorated with the Israeli flag. “I got this belt from Athletes for Israel,” Max told me. I immediately told him how proud I was to see it. When I asked how he felt about his Saturday round, Max said, “I did not play great. I shot even. This is a tough course.” I asked who first got him into golf. “My parents did,” he said. “I was only 3 or 4 years old.” I then asked if he had a Bar Mitzvah. Max smiled and said, “Yes, I did.” His favorite golf course? He didn’t hesitate: “Augusta National,” home of The Masters. Max finished the tournament at 4 under, tying for 38th place. Max Homa The second Jewish Max in the field, Max Homa, grew up in California and now lives in Arizona. In my view, the 35 year old is currently the best Jewish golfer in the world, with six PGA Tour victories to his name. Max has a Jewish mother, attended Hebrew School, and had a Bar Mitzvah. In a 2023 Masters survey about the Champions Dinner menu, Max famously said, “I’m half‑Jewish, so maybe I’d throw in my mom’s matzo ball soup.” The course played tough all week, with temperatures soaring into the 90s on one of the days. Max finished at 4 under, tying for 38th place alongside Greyserman and nine others. David Lipsky David Lipsky, 37, grew up in Southern California and has a unique background—his father is Jewish and his mother is Korean. David told me his parents introduced him to golf when he was ten years old. He finished the tournament at 4 over, placing 71st. Overall, this was a great tournament offering fun times for people of all ages. Neil Keller is a Jewish historian. Visit www.NeilKeller.com to learn who is Jewish.
