Leading With Head & Heart - Dara Levan's Enduring Service To Memorial Foundation Jewish Connection News Nov 20, 2025 When Fort Lauderdale Resident Dara Levan First Joined The Memorial Foundation Board Of Directors More Than A Decade Ago, She Made It Clear She Was Committed For The Long Haul. At The End Of Her First Term, When The then-CEO Recognized Members Rolling Off The Board, Levan Immediately Spoke Up, “I’m A Lifer. I’m Not Going Anywhere.” True To Her Word, She Has Served Three Terms Across Three CEOs, Briefly Stepping Away Only To Return With Renewed Dedication. Her Tenure Reflects A Deep Loyalty To Memorial’s Mission Of Compassion, Integrity And Patient-Centered Care. Levan’s impact has been inspiring. She was instrumental in launching the Pink Angels, a volunteer fundraising and advisory group that supports Breast Cancer patients through treatment and recovery. The committee funds wigs, acupuncture, therapy and survivorship programs that help women feel whole again. She also championed a new meditation room inside the Memorial Hospital Chapel, where patients and families can go for quiet reflection. Most recently, she has been working with the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation and Business for the Arts Broward (BFA) to bring a mural to the hospital through BFA’s Art Walls Mural Program. Levan describes the Memorial System as a rare blend of head and heart in healthcare. “Memorial is a place where accountability and innovation are balanced with compassion and kindness. Patients aren’t just numbers. They’re people who are seen, heard and cared for. Everyone deserves to matter,” she says. Levan’s perspective is shaped by her own experiences. Like many in the community, she has faced health scares personally and with loved ones. Those moments, she says, showed her the importance of both clinical excellence and empathy. As a board member, Levan sees her role as balancing tradition with change. “My goal is to embrace growth with transparency and joy, while holding onto our core values of integrity and compassion,” she explains. “Listening, learning and understanding what’s happening inside the hospital helps us encourage real progress for patients.” Broward County’s diversity makes that mission even more important. Memorial serves as both a neighborhood hospital and a regional medical center with specialties ranging from Cancer Care to Cardiology. Levan is proud to support initiatives that strengthen Memorial’s leadership in these areas while keeping the focus on treating every patient with dignity. Levan’s commitment extends beyond philanthropy. A speech-language pathologist by training, she is also a writer, storyteller and award-winning author. She hosts the “Every Soul Has a Story” podcast and is the author of the novel, “It Could Be Worse.” She is also a contributor to the essay collection, “On Being Jewish Now,” a USA Today bestseller. Her next book, “Shaken to the Core,” will be released in June 2026. Whether through her writing or her board service, Levan is steadfast in her purpose to honor the dignity of every person and help contribute to a stronger, more caring community. “I’m so very proud to serve on a board that gives with compassion, intention and integrity,” she says. Jewish National Fund-USA Brings Comfort And Care To IDF Soldiers And Their Families By www.jnf.org Aug 15, 2025 In Times Of Adversity, The Smallest Acts Of Kindness Can Yield The Greatest Impact. As A Trusted Name In Philanthropy, Jewish National Fund-USA And Its Partners (Donors) Are Proud To Show They Care For The Members Of The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), First Responders, And Their Families Through Two Meaningful Initiatives: Israel Support Packages And Operation Hug. Through the organization’s Israel Support Packages initiative, thoughtfully curated products sourced directly from small Israeli businesses in the country’s North and South—many of which are members of Jewish National Fund-USA’s Small Business Association are gifted to Israelis in uniform and their families. From artisanal snacks to handcrafted goods, these items embody the spirit of resilience and Zionist pride. Every box not only uplifts a hero on the frontlines—it sustains a local shop owner, tradesperson, or artisan working to bolster Israel’s economy during these challenging times. “Our brave soldiers, firefighters, medics, and emergency workers are not just defending Israel—they’re protecting the soul of our homeland and ensuring our future,” said Jewish National Fund-USA President, Deb Lust Zaluda. “By sending an Israel Support Package, you’re conveying a powerful message: You are not alone. Am Yisrael stands with you.” Supporters don’t need to know the recipients personally; however, they can include a message in English that will be translated into Hebrew and placed with the package. Whether it's a pilot stationed in the South or a first responder in the North, your contribution ensures they feel the encouragement of an entire global community behind them. The initiative is part of Jewish National Fund-USA’s broader Israel Resilience Campaign, where proceeds support critical Infrastructure, therapeutic services, and economic support in Israel’s most vulnerable communities. Jewish National Fund-USA Support Packages Jewish National Fund-USA is also proud to support Operation Hug – the brainchild of Nefesh B’Nefesh and a first-of-its-kind program – that provides a round-trip airline ticket for one parent of any lone soldier serving in an active combat unit, from anywhere in the world to visit their child in Israel (parents are asked to make a nominal contribution toward the airfare). For many of Israel’s 5,000 lone soldiers, the battlefield is not only dangerous but also isolating. The emotional burden becomes overwhelming without family nearby to offer comfort or reassurance. Operation Hug addresses these needs with action. Since it started in late 2023, the initiative has reunited over 1,200 families from more than 60 countries, each reunion providing a moment of healing and humanity amid the chaos. Jewish National Fund-USA Nefesh B’Nefesh Task Force Chair, Deborah Riegel, said, “Operation Hug embodies the very soul of what Jewish National Fund-USA stands for—ensuring that every individual who defends our homeland feels the figurative embrace of a grateful people, and more importantly, the literal embrace of family.” Jewish National Fund-USA continues to attain the highest possible rating by the leading charity watchdog, Charity Navigator. Big Adventures, Bright Vibes - Fresh Ride, Bright Vibe: Your Ride. Your Space. Your Community. By Jose Paz, BCT Oct 16, 2025 Every Sunday Morning, 10-Year-Old Ethan Jumps Out Of Bed A Little Faster Than Usual. He Knows It’s Not Just Any Day; It’s “Grandma Day.” For the past year, Ethan and his grandmother Rachel have made it a tradition to ride the bus together every Sunday. It’s their shared ritual: no rush, no screens, no distractions. Just the two of them, discovering new corners of Broward County one route at a time. Sometimes it’s a visit to the park for kite flying and ice cream. Other times it’s a trip to the library, a stop at the local market, or even an afternoon exploring nature at a community center. The destinations change, but the feeling stays joyful, relaxed, and connected. “The ride is part of the adventure,” says Grandma Rachel. “And for me, it’s also a way to keep moving, keep social, and share time with my grandson without worrying about driving or parking.” As a senior, Rachel rides with a reduced fare, which helps stretch his budget. She’s also grateful for the thoughtful design of the buses, which have low floors, accessible seating, and drivers who greet her with a smile and lend a hand when needed. For Ethan, the bus is magical. He loves watching the city roll by, choosing the “best” seat, and announcing their next stop. “It’s like we’re going on a mini vacation every Sunday,” he says. “And Grandma lets me pick the route.” Their favorite trip? “The one where we went to the farmers market, tried dragon fruit for the first time, and rode back home just in time to catch the sunset.” Ron laughs, remembering the day. “It was a great ride. The bus was cool, clean, and quiet. We were tired, but happy. It’s something we look forward to every week.” At BCT, we believe public transit should be more than just transportation; it should be a fresh experience that makes daily life better for every age. Whether you’re a grandparent creating memories or a kid with a curious heart, there’s a seat for you on board. Fresh Ride. Bright Vibe. - ZOA Praises Israel’s Brilliant/Precision Strike In Qatar On Arab/Islamist Hamas Leaders Responsible For October 7 And Other Massacres Of Jews | sun-times
ZOA Praises Israel’s Brilliant/Precision Strike In Qatar On Arab/Islamist Hamas Leaders Responsible For October 7 And Other Massacres Of Jews By ZOA.org Sep 18, 2025 Zionist Organization Of America (ZOA) National President Morton A. Klein Released The Following Statement: ZOA strongly praised Israel’s precision strike in Doha, Qatar, on Arab/Islamist terror group Hamas’ leaders who were directly responsible for orchestrating, inciting, financing and facilitating Hamas’ numerous vicious atrocities and massacres against innocent Jews and other innocents – while these Arab Hamas leaders lived in luxury in Doha, Qatar with the approval of the Emir. Among many other horrors, the targeted terror leaders orchestrated, incited, financed and/or facilitated Arab/Islamist Hamas’ massive massacre, sexual atrocities and hostage-taking on October 7, 2023, and Hamas’ deadly terror attack yesterday in Jerusalem, in which Hamas terrorists murdered six innocent Jews, and wounded another six innocent Jews. Israel’s courageous action sends an important message that Arab/Islamist terrorists and their leaders responsible for murdering Jews will be brought to justice anywhere they are found, and that no nation should give sanctuary to these murderous terror leaders. ZOA President Morton Klein stated: The Zionist Organization of America is fully supportive and proud of Israel for showing its long arm of justice will reach wherever enemies of Jews reside, whether it’s Gaza, Lebanon, Iran or even Doha. The Doha attack against Arab Hamas terrorists reminds me of Israel searching all over the world and tracking down and killing the Arab terrorists who brutally tortured and murdered eleven innocent Jewish athletes at the Munich Olympics. The world should be applauding Israel for its brilliant and courageous actions protecting all of us from terrorists who are enemies of the Jews, Christians, America and the West. ZOA learned that President Trump reportedly gave the green light for Israel’s independent operation, and that on Sunday, the President posted a “last warning” to Arab Hamas to release all the hostages or face the consequences. ZOA has long demanded that Qatar must extradite the Hamas leaders living in luxury in Qatar while orchestrating attacks against innocent Jews, and send them to a jurisdiction where Hamas’ leaders could stand trial for their Nazi-like atrocities. ZOA has also urged that the U.S. must pressure and demand Qatar to extradite these terror leaders. See, e.g., “ZOA Demands and Now Urges Biden to Demand Qatar Deport & Extradite Hamas Officials to Proper Jurisdiction to Stand Trial,” October 12, 2023. In 2018, when ZOA National President Morton Klein met with the Qatari Emir and other Qatari leaders, Mr. Klein directly demanded that Qatar must expel Hamas leaders. ZOA’s accompanying report provided to the Qatari officials, demanded on page one: “Hamas: End Hamas sanctuary, housing and offices in Qatar. Expel all remaining Hamas leaders and operatives from Qatar, including but not limited to, prisoners released during the Shalit exchange who are now directing Hamas operations in Judea/Samaria/Gaza from Qatar.” (ZOA Report to Qatari Officials Demanding Changes) As of the time of this press release, there are conflicting reports as to which terror leaders died and which survived. The deaths of any of these monsters will make the world a safer place. The senior Hamas officials reportedly at the Hamas meeting in Doha targeted by Israel, included: Khaled Mashal (or Meshal): Hamas Politburo Chairman and “Diaspora director” Mashal was or is one of the six Hamas leaders that the U.S. Department of Justice indicted (in Mashal’s case, in absentia, while Hamas luxuriated in Qatar) for being “responsible for planning, supporting, and perpetrating Hamas’s October 7 terrorist attacks in Israel resulting in the brutal murders of more than a thousand innocent civilians, including over 40 American citizens.” Three days after Hamas’ October 7 atrocities, on Al-Mahriah Television, Mashal called on Muslims throughout the world to join the terror battle against Israel and to take to the streets and city squares throughout the world to perpetrate more terror on Friday, October 13, for “the Al-Aqsa Deluge Friday” (named after Hamas’ name for October 7 atrocities, the “Al-Aqsa Deluge” or “Al-Aqsa Flood”). (See MEMRI video and translation.) Unfortunately, Mashal may have survived the attack. Mashal reportedly has or had a personal net worth of $4 Billion. Khalil al-Hayya: Al-Hayya was appointed the leader of Hamas’ armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades in December 2024; and was a member of Hamas’ ruling five-man leadership. In the summer of 2023, al-Hayya met with IRGC Quds Force senior official Saeed Izadi, in Lebanon, and requested that Iran blow up sensitive sites in Israel at the start of Hamas’ October 7 attack, to make October 7 even more deadly for Israel. The press has been citing al-Hayya’s role as a supposed “negotiator” – while ignoring that he is a terrorist dedicated to Israel’s annihilation. Zaher Jabarin: Jabarin directed Hamas terror activities in Judea/Samaria, and was also a leader of Hamas’ financial operations. Mousa Abu Marzook: Marzook is or was a U.S.-Specially Designated National and Blocked Person. The U.S. Department of Justice indicted Marzook in absentia for coordinating and financing Hamas activities, and again indicted Marzook in absentia for a 15-year racketeering conspiracy in the United States and abroad to illegally finance terrorist activities, including providing money for weapons purchases. Marzook reportedly had or has a personal net worth of $3 Billion. Husam Badran: Infamous terror commander and head of Hamas’ terror activities in Samaria. Directed infamous terror attacks, including the deadly attacks on the Sbarro restaurant, Dolphinarium, Nahariya train station, Matza restaurant and a bus in Haifa, a bus near Emmanuel, the village of Hamra, and the Park Hotel Passover Seder filled with Holocaust survivors in Netanya, resulting in over 100 deaths and hundreds wounded. He was released by Israel in the Shalit deal, and fled to Qatar to direct Hamas activities from there. In 2015, the IDF exposed that Badran led the establishment of a sprawling Hamas terror cell and command center in Nablus and transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars to it with gold and jewelry smuggled through Jordan. Nizar Awadallah: Awadallah is a U.S.-Specially Designated Global Terrorist. He has been a member of Hamas’ Politburo since 2009, was a confidant of Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, and was previously Hamas’ leader in Gaza. Awadallah helped negotiate the 2011 deal in which Hamas released captured Israeli Gilad Shalit in exchange for 1,027 Palestinian terrorists, including Hamas terror leaders Yahya Sinwar, Zaher Jabarin, and Hussam Badran. Navigating Travel Plans: When Travel Advisors Can Take You Further Than AI By Feature Impact Jun 25, 2026 From Comparing Prices To Dreaming Up Bucket-List Destinations, Artificial Intelligence Has Become A Starting Point For Millions Of Travelers Who Are Turning To Tech For Early-Stage Planning. However, travelers consistently emphasize the importance of having accessible expert support during the process. In fact, 96% of U.S. travelers said having access to a human for support is important when booking a vacation, according to a new survey commissioned by ALG Vacations, a leading provider of vacation packages to top global destinations, including 48% who said it’s “extremely” important. Though 24% of survey respondents said the main way they use AI is for comparing prices or finding travel deals, 63% of Americans said they trust a travel advisor as much as or more than AI tools when planning a vacation, underscoring that AI alone is not enough for most U.S. travelers. Going beyond the planning phase, 77% of survey respondents said that even if they use AI for travel planning, they’re still likely to rely on a human to make final decisions, especially for booking, payment or resolving issues. In honor of Travel Advisor Appreciation Month, consider these ways travelers can take advantage of the expertise of an advisor to get the most out of every trip. Navigating Travel Uncertainty Today’s travel landscape can feel unpredictable, from shifting policies to headlines that make things feel bigger or closer than they actually are, but that doesn’t mean travelers should avoid taking the trip; it just means they should plan smarter. Because 42% of travelers fear important details could be missed if relying entirely on AI to plan a trip, that’s where a travel advisor comes in to help separate what’s real from what’s just noise. This expertise allows for smarter, more confident decisions, and aids in choosing destinations that align with travelers’ current comfort levels, always with safety in mind. Unlocking Added Value Planning thoughtfully doesn’t mean spending more, it means getting more for the amount spent. Travel advisors often have access to exclusive perks and upgrades not directly available to consumers or pulled in by AI prompts, providing added value that goes beyond the cost of the vacation. In addition to added amenities, advisors’ insider recommendations can help match those perks to travelers’ preferences. In fact, for vacations booked during the month of May, travelers can take advantage of The Great Getaway Savings Event from ALG Vacations, which features up to $950 in savings through a combination of instant savings, promo codes, air credits and group offers on trips to destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, the continental United States, Europe, Central America, Dominican Republic and the South Pacific. Providing Protection and Peace of Mind Modern travelers want options, and the ability to adjust plans, add protection or pivot when needed has become a top priority. A travel advisor can assist with adding that flexibility through travel protection that provides extra peace of mind – whether that means rebooking or changing plans if something comes up. At the end of the day, it’s about helping travelers feel prepared so they can relax and truly enjoy their vacations. Stepping in When Things Go Awry When trips become complex, multi-destination or disrupted by delays or cancellations, travelers are more likely to want a real person involved. In fact, 39% of survey respondents worry there will be no support if something goes wrong. If a flight is canceled or a resort overbooks, travelers aren’t stuck refreshing an app; they have an expert there every step of the way – before, during and after the trip – listening to them, learning about their preferences, advocating for them and providing guidance based on first-hand experience throughout the process.
