  • Your Vote, Your Voice - A Message From The Vice Mayor of Sunny Isles Beach

Your Vote, Your Voice - A Message From The Vice Mayor of Sunny Isles Beach By Alex Lama, Vice Mayor - www.sibfl.net October 18, 2024 Share The general election will be on November 5. Voters will not only decide who will be our next president, but also cast their votes for federal representatives, state representatives, special state legislative, state Supreme Court, ballot measures, county mayor, and municipal government officials. It seems like a lot and one may even wonder what impact our vote has in guiding the direction of this country at a federal, state, and local level. Constituents must understand that they can influence political matters, and the more involved they are, the more power they wield. It all starts by casting your vote. According to Statista, voter turnout in this country for the past three general elections ranged between 56% and 61%, which is similar to voter turnout in Sunny Isles Beach. While this is a positive showing, it means about 40% of registered voters are not being heard. The percentage of people not voting is much higher for primary and special elections. One must note that voting matters because it puts pressure on candidates and elected officials, reminding them that the voter is ultimately in charge. The greater the number of voters, the greater the pressure. The more people who participate in the elections, the more they can influence policies and laws, hold elected officials accountable, decide how their tax dollars are spent, and foster civic engagement. Voting is not only our right but also our civic duty. It’s the most crucial element in maintaining our democratic process healthy. Please vote and be heard. For election information, key dates, and registration, please visit: https://www.sibfl.gov/Resident-Services/Elections - And: https://www.miamidade.gov/global/elections/home.page Thank you for voting! • Knead, Braid And Connect: The Braiding Bunch Brings Women Together For Challah Baking | sun-times

Knead, Braid And Connect: The Braiding Bunch Brings Women Together For Challah Baking Jewish Connection News Sep 10, 2026 This Fall, Women In The Community Are Invited To Gather, Bake And Connect Through A New Three-Part Culinary And Spiritual Experience: The Braiding Bunch, A Women-Only Challah-Baking Series Designed To Celebrate Tradition, Friendship And The Joy Of Preparing For Shabbath. Taking place at Owen’s Place at the DPJCC, the series will meet on Thursday, October 15th, 2026, Thursday, November 19th, 2026 and Thursday, December 17th, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Open to women ages 18 and up and welcoming participants from throughout the community, the program offers an opportunity to learn the art of challah making while exploring the deeper meaning behind one of Judaism’s cherished mitzvot. Challah is more than a loaf of bread. For generations, the process of preparing and braiding challah has been intertwined with Jewish tradition, family gatherings and the anticipation of Shabbath. The Braiding Bunch aims to bring that tradition to life in a warm, intimate setting where participants can learn, create and share the experience with others. Each session promises plenty of hands-on baking. Participants will make four challahs per session and receive a complete baking kit to help make the experience both enjoyable and accessible. Attendees will also receive a Braiding Bunch tote bag as a keepsake from the series. But organizers say the program is about more than learning how to braid dough. It is an opportunity to build community, nourish the soul and create meaningful connections. The intimate format is designed to encourage conversation and camaraderie, giving participants a chance to meet others while enjoying the simple pleasure of baking together. The series also offers a chance to pause from the pace of everyday life and prepare for Shabbath with intention. Kneading dough, shaping loaves and sharing the results can become a meaningful ritual—one that connects participants to Jewish heritage while creating new memories in the present. Registration for all three fall sessions is offered at two rates. The fee for those new to the Braiding Bunch is $180, while returning participants can join the full series for $90. Fees include all three sessions, along with the materials and experiences provided throughout the program. Because the series is designed as an intimate experience, space is limited. Community members interested in participating are encouraged to register early. For questions or additional information, contact Maya Sharon at: msharon@dpjcc.org . Or by phone at: (954) 434-0499, Extension#: 1109. With its combination of baking, Jewish tradition and community connection, The Braiding Bunch offers women an inviting way to spend three fall evenings together. Whether participants are experienced bakers or simply curious about making challah, the series promises an opportunity to learn something new, meet others and embrace the spirit of Shabbat. The David Posnack Jewish Community Center on the Nina & Louis Silverman Campus is located at: 5850 South Pine Island Road, Davie, Florida 33328. The invitation is simple: knead, braid and connect. A Magical Disney Experience In Fort Lauderdale’s: Port Everglades Will Be Disney Cruise Lines Second Home Starting In 2023 April 28, 2022 Share The Broward County Commission gave the green light to transform Port Everglades' Cruise Terminal 4 and the adjacent berth into a second home for Disney Cruise Line. Transforming Port Everglades' Cruise Terminal 4 into a second home for Disney Cruise Line received the green light today as The Broward County Commission approved Bermello, Ajamil & Partners, Inc. for design and consulting services. "Disney is known for its remarkable creativity worldwide. I'm sure this new terminal will reflect the Magical Disney experience for travelers. We are certainly very happy and complimented that Disney Cruise Line will be sailing from our Port Everglades," said Broward County Mayor Michael Udine. Improvements to Cruise Terminal 4 and the adjacent berth will begin once the interior and exterior designs are complete. The entire project must be completed by Fall of 2023 when Disney Cruise Line sails for the first time from Port Everglades. "Our Seaport Construction Staff has been working closely with teams of Imagineers and other creative groups to brainstorm designs and ideas to maximize guest flow and efficiency. I am excited to see the final product," said Port Everglades Chief Executive and Port Director Jonathan Daniels. Adding Port Everglades as a second homeport gives Disney a dedicated terminal in a market with direct highway access and one of the Nation's fastest growing airports, The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). Disney's original homeport is Port Canaveral, located in Central Florida. "We continue to make progress on our specially-designed Disney Cruise Line terminal, which will allow us to provide the outstanding experience our guests have come to expect from us, along with that special touch of Disney magic," said Disney Cruise Line SVP and General Manager Sharon Siskie. The family-favorite cruise line is bringing its magic to Broward County's cruise port under a 15-year partnership that includes one ship to be homeported in Port Everglades year-round beginning Fall 2023, joined by a second, seasonal ship in 2025. The agreement supports an estimated 1,111 direct local jobs generating $31.6 Million in wages and $12.3 Million in state and local taxes, according to a study by nationally recognized maritime research company Martin Associates. Port Everglades offers "everything under the sun" from Caribbean cruises to world voyages to fast ferry getaways ̵ all from the vacation paradise of Greater Fort Lauderdale. Port Everglades' enviable location in the heart of South Florida and the neighboring Caribbean, makes it one of the three busiest cruise ports in the world, typically hosting nearly 4 million passengers annually. Enjoying a delicious dish without the meat can be an easy feat with just a few everyday ingredients. Start with the craveable texture and crunch of Envy Apples - a leading Apple variety - that provide balanced sweetness with flesh that remains white longer, even after cutting. While they're often best served fresh or paired with Cheese Boards, Sandwiches or Mocktails, their sweetness also helps play up meatless favorites like Seared Salmon with Apple Slaw. The Flaky Baked Fish is complemented perfectly by Asian-Style Barbecue Sauce and Fresh Herbs then paired with a Sweet Homemade Apple Slaw for a Classic Lenten Dish with a tangy twist. For a family meal that doubles down on freshness, try pairing with Roasted Broccolini or a Light Salad. Firing up the grill isn't only for Beef, Chicken and Pork - you can prepare a tasty recipe over an open flame while skipping the meat with Grilled Apple Portobello Burgers. In a bowl, combine the Sliced Apple Sticks, the Cabbage, the Celery and the Red Onion Slices and toss them lightly. In a separate bowl, whisk the Mayonnaise, the Herbs, the Lime Juice and the Lime Zest. Fold the Dressing and the Sesame Seeds into the Slaw and toss them together.
