  • Uvalde Texas: Do Not Let This Tragedy Spread Fear, Let It Awaken Your Purity of Purpose

Uvalde Texas: Do Not Let This Tragedy Spread Fear, Let It Awaken Your Purity of Purpose By Tracy Renee Lee June 30, 2022 Share Although I have long been involved in politics, it is not something I seek or enjoy. Yet, try as I might, it calls me back into its web of disappointment and deceit as politicians threaten the integrity of our beloved constitution and the rights guaranteed therein. I am not a political writer and I like it that way; I want to keep it that way. But, recent events pull me beyond my desire to leave it alone into an instinctual reaction to speak out. I would rather not write on this subject; however, my heart wants to help those who have suffered, and my soul won’t rest until I do. I live in the Great State of Texas and I am grateful to reside here. Like most people residing in Texas, I tend to be directionally conservative. I believe in self-reliance, individual responsibility, and accountability, and that my safety along with that of my children and grandchildren, first and foremost, is my responsibility. I live among like-minded people because that is where I feel the safest. Additionally, although my husband and I experience the deficits of age, we plan and train to rely upon ourselves should anything dangerous or threatening come our way. Sadly, the school shooting in Uvalde, TX has clearly broken our hearts. I want to ignore it, but as a grief counselor, American citizen, and grandmother, I know that avoidance is not the answer. I am not related to anyone involved in this tragic event, but I have lost loved ones to murder, and I have suffered, down through the depths of my soul, the loss of a grandchild. The losses suffered in Uvalde, TX are so tragic, that once again, I find myself activated in an issue that should never have happened. This violent and senseless loss of life is impossible to reconcile for the survivors. For those of us outside of the immediate community of mourners, reconciliation of this nature is likewise fleeting. The irrepressible nature of those seeking political gain from such an event is repulsive and should be suppressed. The interference of incompetent government overreach contributing to this tragedy, must, however, be addressed. Had this interference not existed, 19 children, two teachers, and one husband might very well remain as living souls. Upon the birth of my first child, I realized that not one living soul would be willing to take a speeding bullet or walk through lava for my children, without personal regard or hesitation, save it be their parents. From that moment on, I became my husband’s partner in their defense. To protect my children from physical harm, emotional manipulation, psychological intimidation, spiritual death, and intellectual propaganda, I removed them from public school. In my opinion, their education and safety were more important than political correctness and propaganda. Some holding public office, point their fingers away from their failures by beating drums that do not exist. They would have us believe that taking our defense away from us would make us safer. I’ve seen their defense strategies, they never have, and never will work. Had one teacher pulled a sidearm and shot the shooter dead, there might remain 22 living souls who now lie in caskets beneath the earth’s protection. Had the parents been allowed to protect their children, rather than held at bay through inhumane government interference and intimidation, their children might remain with them today. If we, like the generations before us, would take it upon ourselves to protect our own, we would realize that it is our right and our nature to do so. I taught my girls that their safety was their own responsibility. Now I ask you to realize the same. Do not let this tragedy spread fear. Rather, let it awaken your purity of purpose to be personally accountable for yourself and your family. Stop insanity and evil before it turns your life into a tragedy. Complacency is not noble; honor, bravery, loyalty, truth, integrity, and conviction are. Grief is the most painful of human emotions. Let us comfort those who mourn the loss of their beloved children, and let us recognize senseless political confines masquerading as protective policies. Exercise your power to protect your families from inhumane predatory theories that reduce your right to protect yourself and your family from criminals, predators, and oppressive government. Repress political focus that promotes evil over people. “The strength of a nation lies in the homes of its people.” (Abe Lincoln) Do not let the cowardly sin of silence usher in the cancer of defeat. Stand against evil or battle never-ending grief. The loss of a child is the most difficult grief to survive. When senseless brutality is involved, recovery becomes complicated and can remain a lifelong battle for parents. Lifelong grief will wreak havoc on one’s mental, psychological, and physical health. It may also lead to early death for the survivor. Politics should never enter into the experience of death, especially when it involves a child. Parents should be allowed as much comfort as humanly possible upon the loss of their children. Unfortunately, with this tragedy, politicians with their politics were waiting in the wings and before the facts were even known, they, and the media, jumped in to stake a claim and further their agenda. My heart goes out to all of the families of Uvalde, TX. Terrorism has invaded their borders and every parent who has a child, as well as every child attending that school is frightened and traumatized. Life will never be the same for any of them and fear will accompany their steps as they reenter school and travel through life. I don’t know what the school will do, they must provide safety and security, but how do you overcome this tragedy? My heart bleeds for the parents who have lost their children, the families of the lost teachers, and for the husband who died from the stress and heartache inflicted upon him at the loss of his beloved wife. I ache internally for the children who survived this terror. How will it affect their lives and their freedom? And parents who must drop their children off at school there must be filled with rage and fear beyond comprehension. I understand that my political views may not be your political views, nor the views of the surviving families. I also understand that confusion and emotions run high when terror claims the lives of innocence. I do not wish to offend anyone, however, we must put a stop to the erosion of safety and liberty within our society. And, we must, as human beings, offer support, understanding, and love to those who have suffered this horrific tragedy. My heart goes out to you, the survivors of Uvalde, TX, and I pray that you will be able to one day find a path that allows the pain of this unfair and unfathomable tragedy to release your heart from the suffocation it has inflicted. As a survivor of tragic loss, I know that some of you have probably wished death upon yourselves. I hope that this shall not be your fate. I hope that you know there remain others who love and need you, and who want to be able to reach out to help you through this loss. Some may not know what to say and therefore avoid speaking in an effort to spare you additional pain. Feel and accept their love and prayers for your healing, and know too, that the nation yearns for your recovery. My name is Tracy Renee Lee. • Dancing With The World

Dancing With The World By Barbara Fox September 16, 2021 Share Ira Weisburd (Above) - Instructor Every Tuesday morning Ira teaches a two-hour, virtual line dance class on Youtube I'm dancing in front of my computer or rather, I'm trying to dance but the particular dance I'm trying to learn has a very complicated set of steps with, oh dread! Several turns. I don't get it. The instructor, Ira Weisburd, who has the patience of a saint, goes through the steps slowly but I'm still confused. "I don't understand," I write in the chat room. "Is anyone else having a problem, or is it just me?" The answers, from all over the world, come quickly. Sonya from Switzerland says she loves the music but can't get the steps either, Rhoda from London encourages me to keep trying, Lou from Malaysia explains a modified way to do the routine and Diane, Ira's wife and dance partner, assures us that he will go over the steps again. He does and finally, hurrah! I get it. Well, I get it enough to muddle through the entire dance. Every Tuesday morning Ira teaches a two-hour, virtual line dance class on Youtube. He has other classes on other days (Israeli dancing, folk dancing) and has been doing them virtually since March of 2020 when the pandemic put an end to all in-person classes. Ira is a world renowned choreographer as well as a teacher and his classes have been a life-saver to line dancers all over the world who, like me, need their "line dance fix" weekly. The classes are posted on YouTube so, not only can dancers take the class on Tuesday morning, but they can go back and review them anytime. An added bonus is that people all over the United States, I mean all over the world participate and communicate through the chat room. Ira and Diane greet everyone by name and location as they sign into the chat, no small thing because there are always over one hundred people checking in. It's amazing. I'm dancing in my living room in Hollywood Fl, and someone in Indonesia and someone else in Toronto and someone else in Bermuda is doing the same exact thing. I think about these people and try to picture them. I wonder if they cheat like I do sometimes and don't do all the turns or if they sit down halfway through the dance to rest or if they talk back to Ira as if he could hear them. The world seems very friendly, very small and connected. I feel like I have friends all over the world because of line dancing. In-person classes will, hopefully, be starting again soon but, until they do and even after they do, I'll keep dancing with the world every Tuesday. Class Information HYBRID DANCE CLASSES (Simultaneous Virtual & In-Person) Starting in October @ Kings Point Delray Beach, 7000 West Atlantic Avenue Tuesday mornings: NULINE DANCE (10:30am – 12:30pm) www.youtube.com/user/iraweisburd Virtual Classes are Complimentary. This transformation didn't happen overnight. • Professor Miriam Hoffman, World-Renowned Yiddish Scholar And "The World’s Yiddishe Mameh," Has Died | sun-times

Professor Miriam Hoffman, World-Renowned Yiddish Scholar And "The World’s Yiddishe Mameh," Has Died Jewish Connection News Aug 27, 2026 Professor Miriam Hoffman, The Fiery, Funny, And Fiercely Principled Matriarch Of Modern Yiddish Culture, Has Passed Away. She Was 90. Born Mirl Schmulewicz in Siberia in 1936, Hoffman spent her earliest years in the shadow of the Tobolsk Slave Labor Camp and the Russian border town of Saratov, before walking, at age nine, in a post-war refugee caravan from Poland to the Hindenburg-Kaserne Displaced Persons Camp in Ulm, Germany. That journey — from a stateless child behind barbed wire to one of the most influential voices in Yiddish language, academia and culture — became the foundation of a six-decade career devoted to proving that Yiddish was not a relic, but a living, breathing act of resistance to forgetting and a commitment to reviving the legacy of Ashkenazic Jewry. Hoffman’s academic career began at the storied Sholem Aleichem Folkshul #21 on Bainbridge Avenue in The Bronx and culminated in 25 years as professor of Yiddish language and Jewish culture at Columbia University, where she turned an elective language course into a life-altering experience for thousands of students. Her 700-page textbook, “Key to Yiddish,” remains the preeminent reference for Yiddish educators around the world. An award-winning playwright, Hoffman collaborated internationally on her Yiddish translations of Mel Brook’s The Producers (Montreal) and Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple (Israel). Together with her longtime writing partner, Rena Berkowicz Borow, she was embraced by the late Broadway impresario Joseph Papp, co-writing the libretto for the groundbreaking 1989 Yiddish/English musical Songs of Paradise, staged by The Public Theater — a landmark moment in the modern rebirth of Yiddish theater that paved the way for later Yiddish-language productions of Waiting for Godot, Death of a Salesman, and Fiddler on the Roof. For more than 35 years, Hoffman was a weekly columnist for the Forverts (The Yiddish Forward), where her thousands of essays fused sharp social critique with the warmth of Jewish folklore. “Yiddish will never die,” she insisted, “because it contains too much life — too much argument, irony, and love — to vanish quietly.” In her later years, Hoffman extended her life’s work beyond the classroom, co-founding the Not-For-Profit Yiddishkayt Initiative, Inc. and its global platform, YILoveJewish.org, with her son, actor, director, and producer Avi Hoffman. “My mother didn’t just teach Yiddish — she made the whole world fall in love with it,” says Avi Hoffman, Co-Founder of the Yiddishkayt Initiative. “She survived the worst of the 20th century and spent the rest of her life making sure the language and the people who spoke it would never be erased and forgotten. Every joke, every lecture, every column was her way of saying: “We are still here.” I have spent most of my life making sure her voice would be heard and remembered.” Shiva took place at Country Club Towers, 10777 West Sample Road, Apartment 1105, Coral Springs, Florida 33065 on Friday, July 31st, 2026; 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, August 1st, 2026; 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 2nd, 2026; 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, tax deductible donations to support Professor Hoffman’s Yiddish legacy can be made to Yiddishkayt Initiative at: www.YILoveJewish.org/donate Professor Hoffman is survived by her two sons, Avi and Benjamin; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild — and by a worldwide community of students, readers, theatergoers, and activists who carry forward her conviction that languages do not die of old age; they die of neglect. • Falling Fares: Like Autumn Leaves - Tried-And-True Ways To Save On Your Next Flight This Autumn | sun-times

Falling Fares: Like Autumn Leaves - Tried-And-True Ways To Save On Your Next Flight This Autumn South Florida Sun Times Sep 10, 2025 There’s Nothing Quite Like Taking A Lovely Trip During The Fall Season. The Air Is Crisp Around The Country, The Airport Crowds Are Thinner, And Landscapes Are Often Spectacular (Especially In regions With Dazzling Fall Foliage). Even Better, Airlines Frequently Drop Their Prices On Flights That Take Place Between The Busy Summer Travel Season And The Winter Holidays. This Makes Autumn One Of The Best Times Of The Year For Budget-Conscious Travelers To Stretch A Trip Budget. If you are planning an upcoming autumn trip and want to save even more money on your flight, look no further. As the Chief Information Officer at SlickTrip (a popular flight price drop website), I have seen firsthand a number of tried-and-true ways to save on autumn flights. Here are 9 practical, proven tips to help you book the cheapest flight for a fall getaway. Try to Book Your Flight on a Tuesday While flight prices fluctuate constantly, Tuesday has consistently proven to be one of the best days to book a flight. This is largely because many airlines release weekly deals and discounted fares late on Monday or early Tuesday, which prompts competing airlines to adjust their own pricing in response. So by Tuesday afternoon, you’ll often see a wider range of lower fares across multiple airlines as they compete to fill seats. This brief window typically lasts through early Wednesday and can offer some of the most competitive flight prices of the week. It's not a hard rule, but statistically, many travelers have had luck scoring cheaper flights during this timeframe. Take advantage of this tip by setting fare alerts in advance and checking your routes early on Tuesday mornings for the best shot at landing a big deal! Be Flexible with Your Travel Dates One of the easiest ways to save money on your fall flight is to be flexible with your travel dates. For example, there is typically less demand for flights that take off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so it is usually much cheaper to travel on those days than on the weekends. Use fare calendars on booking platforms to compare prices across different days. If your travel schedule allows for it, planning your trip around the lowest fare days (rather than locking in specific dates) can help you save a lot of money on your flight. Set a Fare Alert on a Flight Comparison Website Instead of checking individual airline websites one by one, streamline your search with a flight comparison website like SlickTrip. These helpful platforms allow you to compare fares across multiple airlines, highlight the cheapest days to fly, and they also have a flexible date search feature that makes it easy to spot the most affordable travel windows. Also, one of the most valuable features of these online platforms is their ability to set fare alerts for specific flight routes. Once activated, you'll receive notifications via email or a mobile app when a flight price drops, so you can time your purchase for maximum savings! With so many factors influencing airfare prices, using a flight comparison website with a fare drop alert is one of the most efficient and effective ways to secure the best deal. Skip the Checked Bag (If You Can) Many of the lowest flight fares in autumn (especially on budget airlines) are for “basic economy” tickets that don’t include a checked bag. If you can travel with just a carry-on, you’ll save on fees and also avoid baggage claim delays. Packing light for a longer trip might seem challenging, but it’s often easier than expected. If you’re concerned about fitting everything into a carry-on, research nearby laundromats at your destination. Spending a few dollars to wash a load of clothes mid-trip is far more cost-effective than paying $35+ for a checked bag full of extra outfits. With a little planning, you can travel lighter, save money, and simplify your journey. Use an Incognito Window & Clear Browser Cookies When Searching Have you ever researched a flight route in the morning and then checked it again later the same day, only to discover that the price has gone up? You’re not alone. While airlines and travel sites often deny raising fares based on repeated flight searches (a practice known as dynamic pricing), it's wise to take simple precautions. Use your browser’s incognito or private mode when searching for flights to prevent websites from storing your search history through cookies. Also, if you’re checking fares repeatedly over several days, consider clearing your cookies in between the search sessions. These small steps can help ensure you're seeing the most accurate, unbiased pricing. This can potentially save you from paying more than you need to. Don’t Assume a Round-Trip Fare Is Always Cheaper While it might seem more convenient to book a round-trip ticket with a single airline, doing so could mean missing out on significant savings. In many cases, booking two separate one-way flights (possibly with different airlines) can be cheaper. This mix-and-match approach will help you find the best price for each leg of your journey. It also gives you greater flexibility, as you will be able to fly into one city and return from another (a.k.a. open jaw travel). This option can expand your itinerary, allow for more exploration, and still keep your travel budget in check. Always compare both round-trip and one-way combinations before you book! Fly Early in the Morning or Late at Night Flights that depart early in the morning or late at night (like red-eyes) are often significantly cheaper because they’re less in demand. So if you’re flexible and willing to travel during these less popular hours, you can save a substantial amount on your flight. And there’s another added bonus of flying early in the morning: fewer incoming flights mean fewer chain-reaction delays. Early flights often use planes that stay overnight at the airport, so you won’t have to worry about your plane coming in from an inbound flight and being delayed. Keep in mind that delays compound as the day stretches on, so a delay at one airport can ripple through the whole system. So flying out early in the morning can prevent you from getting caught in the delay domino effect. Follow Airlines on Social Media to Catch Flash Sales Airlines and travel deal websites often announce flash sales, promo codes, and exclusive discounts on their Social Media channels. They sometimes even share these deals on their social channels before posting them anywhere else. By following airlines and travel deal sites on Social Media, you’ll be among the first to know about limited-time offers that can save you serious money on your trip. These deals tend to go fast, so staying plugged in gives you a key advantage when it comes to booking the best flights. Fly Into a Major Hub If Possible Large hub airports like Chicago O’Hare and JFK in New York typically have a higher volume of flights and more competition among airlines that often results in lower fares when compared to smaller regional airports. Therefore, even if your final destination is a smaller city, it may be more cost-effective to fly into a nearby major hub and then continue your journey via train, bus, renting a car, or a short regional flight. While it might add a bit of travel time, the potential savings can make the extra effort well worth it. It may be wise to also consider nearby airports in a major metropolitan area. Major cities often have multiple airports, and sometimes a short drive or train ride can save you a considerable amount on your flight. For example, if you're flying to the San Francisco Bay Area, you could also check prices for Oakland or San Jose to see if they’re cheaper. Or, travelers heading to New York might find cheaper flights into Newark rather than right into JFK or LaGuardia. Have an Awesome, Budget-Friendly Trip!
